  • Windows 8 disk errors

    So yesterday, I forcibly restarted my Windows 8 PC. VMWare Workstation was having some trouble with the guest Linux Mint OS. It wasn't responding for some time, so I tried suspending it September 28th or perhaps even before. It wouldn't suspend -- I forgot what the window looked like, but all options in the power menu were disabled (i.e. "Shutdown," "Power Off," and options like that were all disabled). I eventually killed the VMWare application through Task Manager, though I was too lazy to hunt down the running virtual machine itself, and decided to kill it by just shutting down my PC entirely. The PC wouldn't shut down for quite some time after the monitor went blank, so I did a cold reset by holding the power button. I then powered it on again and Windows briefly gave me some message like "Search for KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR." Windows then started diagnosing some problems and gave me the message, "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete." That was yesterday night, and I went to sleep without waiting for it to finish. This morning, it said that the repair failed, and that the log was at C:\windows\system32\LogFiles\srt\srtTrail.txt (as I remember it -- I don't have the exact path I wrote down right now). It gave me some other options to troubleshoot, such as resetting Windows (files and settings still intact, but programs not installed through the app store will be erased). That didn't work (no error message given, I was just told it didn't work). I tried rebooting in safe mode, the same diagnosis process begins, except that this time it doesn't bother with the automatic repairs again. So I tried using the command prompt to try to see if my files are at least still there. I was on the X drive, and I couldn't cd to the C drive. I couldn't find my folder under Users (of course?), and couldn't find the srt folder under LogFiles either. I am not sure what to try next. I have backed up everything, but to the cloud, so if absolutely necessary I can start off with a fresh copy of Windows and restore all my data, though it would be a hassle. Any thoughts on what might be wrong or what I can try? My computer was purchased just this June, so the hard drive should still be pretty new.

    I'm trying to add an image as a full-page background in word. I've tried page layout -> page color -> fill effect -> picture which looks fine in the preview (though when I try to zoom in or out it no longer looks the same), but when printing it tiled the image instead of just showing it once. I've tried insert -> picture and then setting it to "behind text" and settings its location to (0,0), but then when trying to change the image size the "relative" option is greyed out, so I can't set it to 100% of page size: I guess I can set it manually to the page size, but is there another, simpler way to just set a single image as a background?

  • Is it possible to change the Raid5 chunk size of an existing device?

    I have an existing raid5 device which I created using mdadm on Linux. When I created the device I set the chunk size to 64 but I would like to test the performance of various sizes but I don't want to have to rebuild my entire system to do so. If it is not possible to do it live then is it possible to do this by booting with a rescue disk? Any advice on the steps how to do this, either live or with a rescue disk, will be greatly appreciated.

  • Preparing a hyper-v VM image

    We have a Hyper-V Windows Server 2k3, and we're hosting multiple VMs on it. However, right now, we always start the VM creation right on the server, i.e. when preparing a new Ubuntu image, I just install it into a new VM and set it up and when I'm happy we store the disk image. I wonder if there is a way to prepare a hyper-v image locally on my desktop machine instead? I'm running Windows 7, and I would love to be able to set up a VM so that we can copy the image over to the server and be done with it. This is for linux images only, and we definitely need the hyperv network integration. Is there a recommended way how to prepare hyperv images without running a hyperv instance somewhere?

  • java.awt -- when java outputs an image to my monitor (screen), where is the file that is output to the monitor card?

    Suppose that I am drawing a set of images using java graphics objects. Suppose that I java is outputting these images to my monitor. Where is the file or files that are sent to the monitor card (the graphical representation files). How can I take this file and save it to disk, or how can I take this file and write it to an array, or how can I take these files and combine the results of their output (to the monitor) into a single file for saving? I don't want to use a screen shot feature, I want to be able to redirect (xor capture also) the output to the monitor to some sort of byte-stream. I note that monitors are much better than semaphores, when you are talking about display capabilities; I don't need a counter example. I might not be asking the correct question. It might be that I want to capture the file while it is still in User Space, before it is put into 'Device Space'. I would like to try and capture the byte stream so that I can convert it to MPEG-4 format. I either need a streaming output from the MPEG-4 converter, coming from the streaming input, or else, I need to take static images at discrete times and convert the images. What format will the output from User Space be in? What format will the Device Space output be in?   • Best way to render card images

    I have high-quality SVG card images, but they drastically lose their quality when I downsize them. I have tried two ways of rendering cards (using Inkscape and Imagemagics): 1) Render SVG to high-res PNG and resize it then; 2) Render SVG to image of proper size at once. Both approaches generate blurry card images, which looks even worse than old Windows cards. What are the best way to generate smaller card images from SVG sources and not to loose their quality a lot?

Then, I saved the project, copied the project folder into a pendrive, tried to 'Open Project' in mate's laptop, using the same Java Netbeans IDE version. When I tried to open the frames, they displayed empty labels, without images. What went wrong?

    Our organization recently got TFS 2008 set up ready for our use. I have a practice TeamProject available to play with. To simplify slightly, we previous organized our code on disk like this: -EC - Main - Database - someScript1.sql - someScript2.sql - Documents - ReleaseNotes_V1.doc - Source - Common - Company.EC.Common.Biztalk.Artifacts [folder] - Company.EC.Common.BizTalk.Components [folder] - Company.EC.Common.Biztalk.Deployment [folder] - Company.EC.BookTransfer.BizTalk.sln - BookTransfer - Company.EC.BookTransfer.BizTalk.Artifacts [folder] - Company.EC.BookTransfer.BizTalk.Components [folder] - Company.EC.BookTransfer.BizTalk.Components.UnitTest [folder] - Company.EC.BookTransfer.BizTalk.Deployment [folder] - Company.EC.BookTransfer.BizTalk.sln I'm trying to decide, do I want to check in the entire c:\EC directory? Or do I want to open each solution and checkin. What are the pros and cons of each? It seems like by doing the "Add Files/Folder" option, I could check in everything at once and it would match the disk structure. It also looks like that if I check in each solution separately, that creates another working folder in my Workspace. I think if I check in by "add files/folder", I will have one workspace and that would be better. But most of the books and samples I see talk about checking in projects and solutions. P.S. I know I need to add more to my disk structure in accordance with the Branch/Merge guidelines, but that is not the question I'm asking here. Thanks, Neal Walters

  • Script to copy files on CD and not on hard disk to a new directory

    I need to copy files from a set of CDs that have a lot of duplicate content, with each other, and with what's already on my hard disk. The file names of identical files are not the same, and are in sub-directories of different names. I want to copy non-duplicate files from the CD into a new directory on the hard disk. I don't care about the sub-directories - I will sort it out later - I just want the unique files. I can't find software to do that - see my post at SuperUser http://superuser.com/questions/129944/software-to-copy-non-duplicate-files-from-cd-dvd Someone at SuperUser suggested I write a script using GNU's "find" and the Win32 version of some checksum tools. I glanced at that, and have not done anything like that before. I'm hoping something exists that I can modify. I found a good program to delete duplicates, Duplicate Cleaner (it compares checksums), but it won't help me here, as I'd have to copy all the CDs to disk, and each is probably about 80% duplicates, and I don't have room to do that - I'd have to cycle through a few at a time copying everything, then turning around and deleting 80% of it, working the hard drive a lot. It uses an STL list to store information at each node plus iterators to other nodes. Each node has only one parent, but 0-10 children. Could anyone suggest a pure C++ solution please?

  • Correct way to load image into UIWebView from NSData object

    I have downloaded a gif image into an NSData object (I've checked the contents of the NSData object and it's definitely populated). Now I want to load that image into my UIWebView. I've tried the following: [webView loadData:imageData MIMEType:@"image/gif" textEncodingName:nil baseURL:nil]; but I get a blank UIWebView. Loading the image from the same URL directly works fine: NSURLRequest *request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:imageUrl]]; [imageView loadRequest:request]; Do I need to set the textEncodingName to something, or am I doing something else wrong? I want to load the image manually so I can report progress to the user, but it's an animated gif, so when it's done I want to show it in a UIWebView. Edit: Perhaps I need to wrap my image in HTML somehow? Is there a way to do this without having to save it to disk?

    I'm having a proprietary image format SNG( a proprietary format) which is having a countinous array of Image data along with Image meta information in seperate HDR file. Now I need to convert this SNG format to a Standard TIFF 6.0 Format. So I studied the TIFF format i.e. about its Header, Image File Directories( IFD's) and Stripped Image Data. Now I have few concerns about this conversion. Please assist me. SNG Continous Data vs TIFF Stripped Data: Should I convert SNG Data to TIFF as a continous data in one Strip( data load/edit time problem?) OR make logical StripOffsets of the SNG Image data. SNG Data Header uses only necessary Meta Information, thus while converting the SNG to TIFF, some information can’t be retrieved such as NewSubFileType, Software Tag etc. So this raises a concern that after conversion whether any missing directory information such as NewSubFileType, Software Tag etc is necessary and sufficient condition for TIFF File. Encoding of each pixel component of RGB Sample in SNG data: Here each SNG Image Data Strip per Pixel component is encoded as: Out^[i] := round( LineBuffer^[i * 3] * **0.072169** + LineBuffer^[i * 3 + 1] * **0.715160** + LineBuffer^[i * 3+ 2]* **0.212671**); Only way I deduce from it is that each Pixel is represented with 3 RGB component and some coefficient is multiplied with each component to make the SNG Viewer work RGB color information of SNG Image Data. (Developer who earlier work on this left, now i am following the trace :)) Thus while converting this to TIFF, the decoding the same needs to be done. This raises a concern that the how RBG information in TIFF is produced, or better do we need this information?. Please assist...

    Hi. How do I rotate the ImageView ... i'm trying to use landscape mode, and have a problem with accelerometer moving the image ... Because when I work in portrait mode the x of accelerometer is the same as the x of the image ... But when I work landscape, the x of accelerometer is the y of the image, because the ImageView autorotates with the parent View. When I rotate the image with CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(M_PI/2), it rotates only the image in it's ImageView... and the x,y sides stays untouched ... Is there any way to make own class which will extend UIImageView where I will swap the x,y sides of a UIImageView ? Or is there some way to rotate the UIImageView, and not only the image in it?

    I have an update panel within which a sortable grid is present. While sorting, I have to change an image which shows the sort direction. The sort is an ajax operation initiated by a linkbutton for each column. Everything works fine except the image control. I am able to toggle visible property to show and hide it but, not able to change the ImageUrl property. imagesort.ImageUrl = "~/images/asc.jpg"; imagesort.Visible = true; The above code shows the image but the image is always the imageurl given in the markup not what is set in the code. If imageurl is not specified in the markup, no image(broken image) is shown irrespective of the above code.

At the moment the page loads a blank picture area and when an accordion menu item is closed it just restarts that menu items picture slider. (So on page load and when all accordions are closed I need it default to an image on the right.) Some of the items only have 1 picture i.e. posture 3 you will notice when you click on it, it shows the image and then goes blank, can it just fade the image in and leave it there if there is only 1 image?   • Black background while copying image from Firefox

    An image is copied from Firefox into the Clipboard. My program gets it from clipboard and saves as a JPEG image. For some reason the image is saved with a black background. If I open the same URL in IE and copy the image into the Clipboard, the image is saved correctly by my program. I am using Delphi 7. I also tried to copy the image from Firefox into Microsoft Paint and again the black background. Does anyone has a tip in how to handle such problem.

  • Save a camera photo with an overlayed image - iphone SDK

    I think this should be simple but I am having some difficulty implementing it. I take a photo from the camera, the user can then move and scale it. They then choose "use" and they get a preview of their image. Now what I want to do is overlay an image on top of this preview image - which is also ok. But the part I am having difficulty is then I want to save the photo taken WITH the image that is over it into the library. I just have a UIView with my overlay image about the UIView where my camera photo is previewed. I guess I just need to take a screen capture of these? I don't want to loose resolution OR end up with my UI buttons etc in the final image. Any suggestions or links would be really useful. Thanks :-)
