  • Validation on ManyToManyField before Save in Models.py

    - by Heyl1
I have the following models: class Application(models.Model): users = models.ManyToManyField(User, through='Permission') folder = models.ForeignKey(Folder) class Folder(models.Model): company = models.ManyToManyField(Compnay) class UserProfile(models.Model): user = models.OneToOneField(User, related_name='profile') company = models.ManyToManyField(Company) What I would like to do is to check whether one of the users of the Application has the same company as the Application (via Folder). If this is the case the Application instance should not be saved. The problem is that the ManyToManyFields aren't updated until after the 'post-save' signal. The only option seems to be the new m2m_changed signal. But I'm not sure how I then roll back the save that has already happened. Another option would be to rewrite the save function (in models.py, because I'm talking about the admin here), but I'm not sure how I could access the manytomanyfield content. Finally I've read something about rewriting the save function in the admin of the model in admin.py, however I still wouldn't know how you would access the manytomanyfield content. I have been searching for this everywhere but nothing I come across seems to work for me. If anything is unclear, please tell me. Thanks for your help! Heleen

  • what should I take into consideration when choosing a session implementation?

    - by Satoru.Logic
Hi, all. Yesterday, my supervisor told me that tmp-file-based session should be THE answer to session implementation, and I should abandon any idea of making sessions persistent. He argues that file-based session is much faster and eaiser to use than other choices like db-based or memcached-based implementations. What he said was really a shock to my past learning experience, so please tell me whether he was wrong and why? Thanks in advance.

  • LDAP query using Python: always no result

    - by Grey
I am trying to use python to query LDAP server, and it always returns me no result. and anyone help me find what wrong with my python code? it runs fine without excpetions, and it always has no result. i played around with the filter like "cn=partofmyname" but just no luck. thanks for help import ldap try: l = ldap.open("server") l.protocol_version = ldap.VERSION3 l.set_option(ldap.OPT_REFERRALS, 0) output =l.simple_bind("cn=username,cn=Users,dc=domian, dc=net",'password$R') print output except ldap.LDAPError, e: print e baseDN = "DC=rim,DC=net" searchScope = ldap.SCOPE_SUBTREE ## retrieve all attributes - again adjust to your needs - see documentation for more options retrieveAttributes = None Filter = "(&(objectClass=user)(sAMAccountName=myaccount))" try: ldap_result_id = l.search(baseDN, searchScope, Filter, retrieveAttributes) print ldap_result_id result_set = [] while 1: result_type, result_data = l.result(ldap_result_id, 0) if len(result_data) == 0: print 'no reslut' break else: for i in range(len(result_set)): for entry in result_set[i]: try: name = entry[1]['cn'][0] email = entry[1]['mail'][0] phone = entry[1]['telephonenumber'][0] desc = entry[1]['description'][0] count = count + 1 print "%d.\nName: %s\nDescription: %s\nE-mail: %s\nPhone: %s\n" %\ (count, name, desc, email, phone) except: pass ## here you don't have to append to a list ## you could do whatever you want with the individual entry #if result_type == ldap.RES_SEARCH_ENTRY: # result_set.append(result_data) # print result_set except ldap.LDAPError, e: print e l.unbind()

  • Why is alert not run even though $.getJSON runs fine? (Callback not executed, even though the reques

    - by Emre Sevinç
I have a snippet of code such as: $.getJSON("http://mysite.org/polls/saveLanguageTest?url=" + escape(window.location.href) + "&callback=?", function (data) { var serverResponse = data.result; console.log(serverResponse); alert(serverResponse); }); It works fine in the sense that it makes a cross-domain request to my server and the server saves the data as I expect. Unfortunately, even though the server saves data and sends back a response I just can't get any alert or the console.log run. Why may be that? The server side code is (if that is relevant): def saveLanguageTest(request): callback = request.GET.get('callback', '') person = Person(firstName = 'Anonymous', ipAddress = request.META['REMOTE_ADDR']) person.save() webPage = WebPage(url = request.GET.get('url')) webPage.save() langTest = LanguageTest(type = 'prepositionTest') langTest.person = person langTest.webPage = webPage langTest.save() req ['result'] = 'Your test is saved.' response = json.dumps(req) response = callback + '(' + response + ');' return HttpResponse(response, mimetype = "application/json") What am I missing? (I tried the same code both within my web pages and inside the Firebug and I always have the problem stated above.)

  • Decorators vs. classes in python web development.

    - by Tristan
I've noticed three main ways Python web frameworks deal request handing: decorators, controller classes with methods for individual requests, and request classes with methods for GET/POST. I'm curious about the virtues of these three approaches. Are there major advantages or disadvantages to any of these approaches? To fix ideas, here are three examples. Bottle uses decorators: @route('/') def index(): return 'Hello World!' Pylons uses controller classes: class HelloController(BaseController): def index(self): return 'Hello World' Tornado uses request handler classes with methods for types: class MainHandler(tornado.web.RequestHandler): def get(self): self.write("Hello, world") Which style is the best practice?

Also I wonder, how to show menu in the way, so the first item is selected by default... But then when another linked is clicked, then class="selected" is toggled

  • create a new model instance version instead of update

    - by pablo
Hi, I have a model with a version field - autocreate timestamp. When a model instance is being saved I want to create a new instance with a new timestamp instead of updating the old model instance. Is it possible? I thought of overriding the model save() method but I don't know how to create a new instance without creating a infinite save() loop. Thanks

  • Google App Engine getting verbose_name of a property from an instance

    - by Brian M. Hunt
Given a model likeso: from google.appengine.ext import db class X(db.Model): p = db.StringProperty(verbose_name="Like p, but more modern.") How does one access verbose_name from x=X() (an instance of X)? One might expect that x.p.verbose_name would work, or alternatively x.properties()['p'].verbose_name, but neither seems to work. Thanks! EDIT: x.name.verbose_name = x.p.verbose_name

  • Use Twisted's getPage as urlopen?

    - by RadiantHex
Hi folks, I would like to use Twisted non-blocking getPage method within a webapp, but it feels quite complicated to use such function compared to urlopen. This is an example of what I'm trying to achive: def web_request(request): response = urllib.urlopen('http://www.example.org') return HttpResponse(len(response.read())) Is it so hard to have something similar with getPage?

  • How can I specify a relative path in a Python logging config file?

    - by ClaudioA
I've the following file to config logging: [loggers] keys=root [handlers] keys = root [formatters] keys = generic # Loggers [logger_root] level = DEBUG handlers = root # Handlers [handler_root] class = handlers.RotatingFileHandler args = ("test.log", "maxBytes=1*1024*1024", "backupCount=10") level = NOTSET formatter = generic # Formatters [formatter_generic] format = %(asctime)s,%(msecs)03d %(levelname)-5.5s [%(name)s] %(message)s datefmt = %Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S In Development this works great, but when I deploy the application test.log is trying to be written in a path in which I don't have the necessary permission. • manyToManyField question

    - by dotty
Hay guys, I'm writing a simple app which logs recipes. I'm working out my models and have stumbled across a problem My Dish models needs to have many Ingredients. This is no problem because i would do something like this ingredients = models.ManyToManyfield(Ingredient) No problems, my dish now can have many ingrendients. However, the problem is that the ingredient needs to come in different quantities. I.E 4 eggs, 7 tablespoons sugar My Ingredient Model is very simple at the moment class Ingredient(models.Model): name = models.TextField(blank=False) slug = models.SlugField(blank=True) How would i go about work out this problem? What fields would i need to add, would i need to use a 'through' attribute on my ManyToManyfield to solve this problem?

  • How do you leave comments/like a specific page of a Facebook Canvas app?

    - by Sebastian
I'm building a tabbed Facebook Canvas app that requires individual images to be "Like"d and commented on. Since each image is loaded up as its own page, in this style: http://apps.facebook.com/appname/image/333/ (which translates to: www.mydomain.com/image/333/) I was hoping I could just get a UID for each "image" page and then comment/like based off that. If that's possible, how exactly do I get the id for dynamically generated pages? Or any page for that matter? Thanks in advance.
