• Why CSS Transitions -module does not support image-to-image transitions?

  Hi, I've read the spec for CSS Transitions Module Level 3 and I'd like to know why it does not support image-based transitions. According to the draft, the background-image transitions are only supported when using with gradients. Both Webkit and Gecko seems to follow this practice. It's just that I see this as a major drawback. HTML 5 and CSS 3 could become the killer of Flash, but if I can't even transit between two images, I don't see how one could have beautiful menus without Flash.

  Hi, We are planning to migrate our DB to Oracle.We need to manually check each of the embedded SQL is working in Oracle as few may follow different SQL rules.Now my need is very simple. I need to browse through a file which may contain queries like this. String sql = "select * from test where name="+test+"and age="+age; There are nearly 1000 files and each file has different kind of queries like this where I have to pluck the query alone which I have done through an unix script.But I need to convert these Java based queries to Oracle compatible queries. ie. select * from test where name="name" and age="age" Basically I need to check the syntax of the queries by this.I have seen something like this in TOAD but I have more than 1000 files and can't manually change each one.Is there a way? I will explain more i the question is not clear

• When do you learn from your mistakes?

  When are you supposed to learn from your mistakes in coding / design? Is it something you take with you to the next project or do you learn in the middle of your current one, sacrificing consistency for cleaner, more well-informed code? For example, my application can be distinctly demarcated down two lines of business -- say one side is for sales and the other is for marketing. Both are somewhat tied together, but as far as the team structure, use cases, developers, etc. the app consists of the Sales code and the Marketing Code. Now, say the Sales code went in first and while good-intentioned, made some bad mistakes. Should the Marketing Code follow suit and make the same mistakes for the sake of consistency or should Marketing architects and designers instead learn from the mistakes that Sales made and developer a cleaner codebase, even though Sales and Marketing are in the exact same system? Basically, do you learn from your mistakes while in a project or do you continue to pile crap on top of crap?

• Oracle Data Pump import to a sql file error :ORA-31655 no data or metadata objects

  Hello, I'm using Data Pump to export/import data, one requirement is to import data to a sql file. The OS is window. I made the follow export : expdp system/password directory=dpump_dir dumpfile=tablesdump.dmp content=DATA_ONLY tables=user.tablename and it works, I can see the file TABLESDUMP.DMP in the directory path. then when I tried to import it to a sql file: impdp system/password directory=dpump_dir dumpfile=tablesdump.dmp sqlfile=tables_export.sql the log show : ..... ORA-31655 no data or metadata objects selected for job ..... and the sql file is created empty in the directory path. I'm not DBA, I'm a Java developer , Can you help me? Thks

• removing diffgram from .net web service returning dataset

How can I remove this tag in the XML returned? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  Hi all. Te question is how to add text to path element. For example, I have path: Path firstPath = new Path(); firstPath.Stroke = Brushes.Black; firstPath.StrokeThickness = 1; myCanvas.Children.Add(firstPath); LineGeometry firstLine = new LineGeometry(); firstPath.Data = firstLine; And somewhere I define line's Start and End point's. The path is binded to controls (for example - two ellipses) and when I drag one of them, the line is dynamically resized and moved to be pinned to both objects. And now I wand to add some text, that would fit to this line and follow it. Any recommendations how to do this?

  Last summer, I asked a question regarding how to add new object to an IList mapped as a one-to-many with NHibernate. One of the answers let me to this paragraph in the documentation: Please note that NHibernate does not support bidirectional one-to-many associations with an indexed collection (list, map or array) as the "many" end, you have to use a set or bag mapping. While I am pretty sure I understand what this paragraph says, I have no idea why or how to work around this limitation. As I am now again working with a model that seems to require a "bidirectional one-to-many association with an index collection", I figured the time was right for follow-up questions: Why does NHibernate have this limitation on associations? It is my impression that the guys behind NHibernate are quite clever, so I assume there is a pretty good reason. What are the common workarounds for this shortcoming? Making the collection a non-indexed bag and adding an explicit Position property to the child class? Any better solutions?

• Debug .Net Framework's source code only shows disassembly in Visual Studio 2010

  Hi! I'm trying to debug .Net Framework's source code using Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I followed the steps described in Raj Kaimal's post but I must be doing something wrong since the only code I'm getting to see is the disassembly code: As you can see in the image, the Go to Source Code and the Load Symbols options are disabled. Nevertheless, symbols are downloaded from Microsoft's server since I can see them inside the local cache directory. The code I'm debugging goes as follow: var wr = WebRequest.Create("http://www.google.com"); Console.WriteLine("Web request created"); var req = wr.GetRequestStream(); Console.Read(); When I hit F11 to step into the first line of code, a window pops us looking for the "WebRequst.cs" file inside "f:\dd\ndp\fx\src\Net\System\Net\WebRequest.cs" which does not exists on my machine. • CSS : overflow : auto will not work under FireFox 3.6.2

  Hello everyone: This is a CSS related question, I got one good answer from my previous question, which suggested to use some CSS code like overflow:auto together with a fixed height container. And here is my actual implementation : on uni server Please follow the instructions on screen and buy more than 4 kinds of tickets. If you are using IE8, Opera, Safari, Chrome, you would notice that the lower right corner of the page now has a vertical scroll bar, which scrolls the content inside it and prevent it from overflowing. That's what I want to have in this section. Now the problem is, this would not do in FireFox 3.6.2. Am I doing something not compliant to the CSS standard or FireFox has its own way of overflow control? You can inspect the elements on screen, and all controlling functions are done in one javascript using jQuery. All CSS code are kept in a separated file as well. According to the professor, FireFox would be the target browser, although the version was set to 2.0...

Follow up: Well that seems pretty comprehensive. I suppose it's better than commenting an unused return value since self documenting code is better than comments. Personally, I'll turn these warnings off since it's unnecessary noise. I'll eat my words if a bug escapes because of it...

  Let's say I have the following class: class ABC { private int myInt = 1; private double myDouble = 2; private String myString = "123"; private SomeRandomClass1 myRandomClass1 = new ... private SomeRandomClass2 myRandomClass2 = new ... //pseudo code public int myHashCode() { return 37 * myInt.hashcode() * myDouble.hashCode() * ... * myRandomClass.hashcode() } } Would this be a correct implementation of hashCode? This is not how I usually do it(I tend to follow Effective Java's guide-lines) but I always have the temptation to just do something like the above code. Thanks

I was hoping there was something simpler than implementing the redirect myself.

• Finding the closest grid coordinate to the mouse position with javascript/jQuery

  What I'm trying to do is make a grid of invisible coordinates on the page equally spaced. I then want a <div> to be placed at whatever grid coordinate is closest to the pointer when onclick is triggered. Here's the rough idea: I have the tracking of the mouse coordinates and the placing of the <div> worked out fine. What I'm stuck with is how to approach the problem of the grid of coordinates. First of all, should I have all my coordinates in an array which I then compare my onclick coordinate to? Or seeing as my grid coordinates follow a rule, could I do something like finding out which coordinate that is a multiple of whatever my spacing is is closest to the onclick coordinate? And then, where do I start with working out which grid point coordinate is closest? What's the best way of going about it? Thanks!

  I have a circle around a given point, call this point (x1, y1). I know the radius of the circle around this point. I also have a second point (x2, y2), that is a distance away, outside the radius of the circle. I need a algebraic way through code to calculate the heading (angle from vertical) needed to intersect the circle at 90* to the center point (I.E. get the angle of the tangent intersecting line 2) around the point (x1, y1) from the second point (x2, y2) A bit of background: Essentially the two points are GPS coordinates on a 2D map, I need to know the target heading to intersect the circle in order to follow its path around the center point. I have intermediate experience with JAVA. As of right now, i'm leaning towards python but i just wanted to make sure i am making the right choice. I find myself limited with books available on asp.net web developments. I am aware that there is the storefront example on the official asp.net site. However, that tutorial was a little hard for me to follow. I've done a research around and was hoping python could be my next available choice.   I have follow situation tyrant server lunched on freebsd host, like this: ttserver -uas -log /data/tyrant/1.log -sid 1 -thnum 8 -tout 5 /data/tyrant/data/1.tct And i try to communicate this server on windows from python and pyrant-0.3.5: like this: import pyrant; import time; t = pyrant.Tyrant(host="192.168.0.220", port=1978); tbegin = time.time(); for i in xrange(4000000): if i and ((i % 10000) == 0): print time.time() - tbegin; tbegin = time.time(); t[i] = {"text": "ruslan text", "value": i}; and have i think very slow performance about 5-6 per 10,000 records. But if i start this code on the same machine like server(ttserver). Performance are good - about 0.5 sec per 10,000 records What i must do to workaround this problem?

  I have a client who had to rebuild his automated build server. He checked out his project folder from my subversion server but is now no longer able to commit - he gets this error: Error: Commit failed (details follow): Error: Cannot write to the prototype revision file of transaction '551-1' because a Error: previous representation is currently being written by another process Finished!: I have searched Google but although this error has been often reported there is no clear explanation - does anyone on StackOverflow have a solution? UPDATE: Nobody else commits to that repository, so it was not a transaction stuck (at least not from another user). In the end we found that permissions were not set correctly. Not that you would know it from this message, but that fixed the problem.

• When is performance gain significant enough to implement that optimization?

  Hi, following the text book, I do measure performance whenever I try optimizing my code. Sometimes, however, the performance gain is rather small and I can't decisively decide whether I should implement that optimization. For example, when a fix shortens an average response time of 100ms to 90ms under some conditions, should I implement that fix? What if it shortens 200ms to 190ms? How many condition should I try before I can conclude that it will be beneficial overall? I guess it's not possible to give a straight forward answer to this, as it depends on too many things, but is there a good rule of thumb that I should follow? Are there any guideline/best-practices?

  Hello! I am currently working on a project where I need to generate multiple values (floats or doubles preferably) that follow a power law distribution with a given exponent! I was advised to use the MathNet.Iridium library to help me. The problem I have is that the documentation is not as explicit as it should be if there is any! I see multiple distributions that fit the general idea of the power law distribution but I cannot pinpoint a good distribution to use with a certain exponent as a parameter. Does anybody have more experience in that matter and could give me some hints or advice?

EDIT: Assume that format specified is always followed. I have no issue with spitting incorrectly formatted strings back at the user with a message telling them to follow the format (which I've described above).
