    I have never worked on ejb, when I started programming Spring was already arrived and all my projects have been with Spring only, recently I had one interview and they wanted knowledge of EJB3.0 and so I want to know how does EJB3.0 stack up with Spring Framework and why many projects now a day are with Spring Framework and not with EJB3.0, do not quote me here as I can be wrong I would really appreciate if difference and benefits of using one over another could be explained from practical perspective.

  • Interacting with Sql Server jobs programmatically

    I would like to be able to interact with a Sql Server job programmatically through a web page. What is the best way to do this? Through SMO? The job will take a long time to run, so it needs to fire and forget, and I would also like to be able to stop it. If SMO, can anybody point me to an easy tutorial? Google gave me some fairly basic stuff but nothing substantial... SQL Server 2008, ASP.NET MVC web app.

  • Extending Zend_Log for application-specific need

    I am building a Zend Framework application that performs jobs submitted by the user. The actions taken need to be logged to a database. I would like to correlate the job with its log entries. Instead of creating my own logging class, I would like to extend Zend_Log since it provides 99% of the functionality that I need. All I need to do is add a foreign key of the job id to the log data model. Is this possible? I'm also looking for a good example of Zend_Log writing to a database. I haven't searched SO yet.     I wrote a program that makes a reference to Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll, which is not present on Windows Server 2003. The program checks for the os and does not reference the dll if the os is 2003. if(OSVersion == WindowsServer2003) //do the job without referencing the Microsoft.Web.Administration.<br> else if(OSVersion == WindowsServer2008) //reference the Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll file.<br> When I tested this program on Windows Server 2003, an error occured telling me it couldn't locate the Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll. But when I separated the if-else block into 2 different methods as below, and the error did not occur. if(OSVersion == WindowsServer2003) //do the job without referencing the Microsoft.Web.Administration.<br> else if(OSVersion == WindowsServer2008) //DoIt2008Style(); So I wanted to know about reference file loading time in more detail. could you point me to some resources?

  • Hudson: where to download file and stop specific builds running ?

    I have a file that is generated inside (hudson server) /var/lib/hudson/jobs/jobtitle/1/out.txt I need to fetch this file, but doing a GET request for http://myhudson:8090/job/jobtitle/1/out.txt doesn't actually locate the file. Basically, I have another box that will grab this file from the hudson server. This box will make the out.txt file available for download. Another challenge is the build number directories. How would I be able to use the hudson API to stop or delete the specific builds running ? I am forced to do iterate through all build numbers to send STOP or DELETE api call in php using wget to do the REST API call. I found that new Object().getClass().getSuperClass() verifies the answer as correct. But can null be considered a class? I see all primitive data types are represented as Class objects from java[dot]sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/Class.html

  • Does Anyone Use This Site To Find Jobs? [closed]

    I hope this isn't too far off-topic that it upsets people, but here goes: My company (me, in particular) are looking to hire entry-level and medium-experienced software engineers via non-traditional (career fairs, etc) avenues due to ineffective HR efforts in the past. So, I am looking to perhaps purchase resume searching from stackoverflow and/or job postings. Before I do, I was hoping a few people could chime in on whether they think this would be worthwhile.   • Enjoy bug fixing more than coding from scratch

    As I get more and more into my job I've had a lot of opportunity to code new projects from scratch. Almost every programmer I know really appreciates that opportunity. But the further I go into it, the more I enjoy bug fixing. In fact, if I can spend a whole day looking over code, whether it be mine or someone else's code, and find some obscure bug, I feel much more accomplished than when I create code. Does anyone else feel this way, and are there any job advantages to this?

  • How do I make use of multiple cores in Large SQL Server Queries?

    I have two SQL Servers, one for production, and one as an archive. Every night, we've got a SQL job that runs and copies the days production data over to the archive. As we've grown, this process takes longer and longer and longer. When I watch the utilization on the archive server running the archival process, I see that it only ever makes use of a single core. And since this box has eight cores, this is a huge waste of resources. The job runs at 3AM, so it's free to take any and all resources it can find. So what I need to do if figure out how to structure SQL Server jobs so they can take advantage of multiple cores, but I can't find any literature on tackling this problem. We're running SQL Server 2005, but I could certainly push for an upgrade if 2008 takes of this problem.

  • What should I do or learn to better prepare myself for a co-op position?

    I'm currently taking computer systems in a technical institute and I will start looking for a coop job by next September. Since summer vacation is only a few weeks away, I was wondering what I should learn or do to help me land a job and do well in it. I'm pretty sure I'm ahead of most of my classmates since I got around 1.5 years "head start." For now, I'm planning to learn how to use source control (git - for no reason really) and was actually thinking of learning Scheme through SICP and maybe build something nice with it at the end. On the other hand, I'm wondering if it's better to expand on what I know right now and I'm thinking of C++ since I enjoy it a lot more than others like Java. Can I get advice on this? thanks!

    I'm building a server that loads modules. Each module is a .jar file. Inside the jar there's all the classes that the module needs. The server needs to read the jar, find the main class (it doesnt have the main method on it is just the class that makes the module work but not as a different program), build an object of that class and store it in a vector of modules so that it can acces to a specific module depending on the job to be done. How can I do that? As far as the server, it is listening and receiving request, but there's no modules to delegate the job to, since my vector of modules is empty.

  • Why Does TFS Allow Orphaned Content and How Do I Get Rid of It?

    My TfsVersionControl database has grown to 40+ GB in size. We recently did a TFS Destroy on a folder tree that should have cleared up at least 10 GB but instead it seemed to have no effect. When I look at the tables in TfsVersionControl, I am first shocked to see that there are no foreign keys at all in the database. Running a few queries, I see that there is some orphaning going on: tbl_Content has 13.9 GB of records that don't have a related tbl_File record tbl_File and tbl_Content have 2.4 GB that don't have a related tbl_Namespace record The cleanup job seems to be running nightly (prc_DeleteUnusedContent) and running it against the database manually doesn't remove any orphans. I see in the log for the cleanup job that it failed on 3/16, which is the morning after I destroyed the large amount of data. The error was due to a full transaction log. Could that error be the reason I'm left with all this orphaned data that can't be deleted? How can I permanently destroy this unneeded content?

But after reading about them I'm still no closer to an understanding of what problems I would solve with an HttpHandler or HttpModule.   • Best practice: How to persist simple data without a database in django?

    I'm building a website that doesn't require a database because a REST API "is the database". (Except you don't want to be putting site-specific things in there, since the API is used by mostly mobile clients) However there's a few things that normally would be put in a database, for example the "jobs" page. You have master list view, and the detail views for each job, and it should be easy to add new job entries. (not necessarily via a CMS, but that would be awesome) e.g. example.com/careers/ and example.com/careers/77/ I could just hardcode this stuff in templates, but that's no DRY- you have to update the master template and the detail template every time. What do you guys think? Maybe a YAML file? Or any better ideas? Thx

  • What is corresponding Cron expression to fire in every X seconds, where X > 60?

    I want my jobs to execute in every X seconds, there's one to one matching between job and X. Also during runtime there can be registered new jobs with their own intervals. I've tried to write cron expression for such scenarios, but in documentation there's written that value of seconds can't be more than 69. So cron expression like this: "0/63 * * * * ?" isn't valid. At first sight solution of that problem seemed to be expression like this: "0/3 0/1 * * * ?", but it means completely different thing: trigger job in every three second of every minute. Can you suggest what is the right solution (cron expression) for that? I know I could use just simple timers, but I've to use cron jobs using Quartz.

  • hadoop - large database query

    Situation: I have a Postgres DB that contains a table with several million rows and I'm trying to query all of those rows for a MapReduce job. From the research I've done on DBInputFormat, Hadoop might try and use the same query again for a new mapper and since these queries take a considerable amount of time I'd like to prevent this in one of two ways that I've thought up: 1) Limit the job to only run 1 mapper that queries the whole table and call it good. or 2) Somehow incorporate an offset in the query so that if Hadoop does try to use a new mapper it won't grab the same stuff. I feel like option (1) seems more promising, but I don't know if such a configuration is possible. Option(2) sounds nice in theory but I have no idea how I would keep track of the mappers being made and if it is at all possible to detect that and reconfigure. Help is appreciated and I'm namely looking for a way to pull all of the DB table data and not have several of the same query running because that would be a waste of time.

    I have a java server application that, when its running, you can interact with it sending commands via stdin. I want to write a web interface that can send these commands to it. In order to do that I need some way of getting commands from php to the stdin for this backgrounded job. Is there a way to do this from console? or possibly write some kind of wrapper that controls the server job and can access its stdin ? could this be done in python?
