• Why are my basic Heroku Apps Taking 2 seconds to load?

  I have created two very simple heroku apps to test out the service, but it's often taking several seconds to load the page when I first visit them: Cropify - Basic Sinatra App (on github) Textile2HTML - Even more basic Sinatra App (on github) All I did was create a simple sinatra app and deploy it. I haven't done anything to mess with or test the heroku servers. What can I do to improve response time? It's very slow right now and I'm not sure where to start.   I'm looking for something a little more sophisticated than the alt="Newsletter Heading text" attribute of <img> tag. So if the Masthead.png image doesn't load for whatever reason, I want the display text, say Font: 60px Helvetica Neue Black, Helvetica, ..., Sans Serif text-align: center to appear in the middle of the table cell that is my masthead instead of just the alt text in some small default font in top right corner. One idea I had was to use to put the image on-top of the text display but I don't know if z-depth is something I can use in email HTML(?4)?

I know that browsers do cache a Java Script library for subsequent requests but I would like the library to be cached once so all subsequent requests, sessions and users. What is the best mechanism to achieve this?

• Rails "Load more..." instead of pagination.

  I have a list of elements, and I've been using will_paginate up until now, but I'd like to have something like "load more..." at the bottom of the list. Is there an easy way to accomplish this using will_paginate or do I need to resort to some other method here? From what I know this is a better route anyhow because then I don't need a SQL count of the records. And it really doesn't matter if there are like 9,847 pages, nobody would need the records beyond the first couple pages anyhow.

  I'm making something of a java applet gallery for my website (processing applets, if you're interested) and I'd like to keep the applets from running when the sit first loads. Then, when the appropriate button is clicked, a piece of javascript would tell the applet to continue execution until another button is pressed to stop it. I know that I can use appletName.start() and appletName.stop(), but it doesn't seem to work on load, at least not well. I'm using element.getElementsById( "applet" ) to get the applets to use the start and stop methods on. It slows Firefox to a crawl for some reason.

  I am getting this R6034 error when running program that I just updated (and cleaned) from VS2003 - VS2008.   Hello everyone, As a part of an enterprise architecture exercise, i need to find a java-based framework filling these constraints : heavy (i think) load : 5000 concurrent connections widely known : can't be too exotic, the contractors would be too high priced. relatively easy to use : developpement time must be reasonnable must be as compliant as possible with the css/html layout produced by a designer Must look like "web 2.0" from the marketing point of view. It looks like this: cat input.txt myprogram -path "/home/user/work" I try to debug the code with gdb inside emacs, by M-x gdb, I try to load the program with the command: gdb cat input.txt myprogram -path "/home/user/work" However, gdb does not like it. Question cribbed from here. Unfortunately I don't understand the solution and am not sure what to do beyond compiling with the -g option and running the command M-x gdb.

• mysql - how do I load data from a different configuration...

  I'm not sure if this will make sense, but I'll give it a shot. My hard drive went down and I had to reinstall the os along with all my webserver configuration,etc. I kept a backup of the mysql database, but it doesn't contain all the tables...I added a couple tables after my last backup. I have access to the hard drive and the directory where the mysql data files are stored from the failed hard drive, but I don't know how to retrieve the data into my new mysql database. Is it even possible to get the raw data files from mysql and load them into a different instance? I'd even be happy if there was some way for phpmyadmin to show the data files, then I could dump out to a backup txt file, and reload them into my new configuration. Any help will be appreciated. thanks.

  I have barely any experience working with DOM and using Javascript, and I have a very specific task that I'm trying to accomplish. Let's say I have an image in my HTML: <img src="foo.jpg" /> When the site loads, I want to take that image (all images in the document, actually), and wrap them in a link: <a href="http://www.foobar.com"><img src="foo.jpg" /></a> What could I use to accomplish this? Google hasn't turned up much for me with regards to this specific task. On load, I can access and iterate all the images in the document... but I'm not sure where to go from there in order to wrap the image in a link.

I get the html data (which is a gif image) i need displayed on screen in the correct div. The problem is i can see the html data loading into the div (dependant on network speed), but what I want is to insert the extracted html code into #BFX ONLY when the ajax request has fully completed.

  I'm trying to figure out the best way to insert content into a light box using rails UJS. I have a link that looks like this: <%= link_to "login", login_path, :remote => true %> Which produces html as such: <a data-remote="true" href="/login">login</a> So this all works great, and I've created the view file: user_sessions/new.js.erb which also loads just fine, but my question what is the preferred method of inserting appending the html into the page? Like I already have the login form on the non-js page, so can't I just load that partial into the page? Any ideas would be very welcomed.
