  • How to avoid movement speed stacking when multiple keys are pressed?

    - by eren_tetik
    I've started a new game which requires no mouse, thus leaving the movement up to the keyboard. I have tried to incorporate 8 directions; up, left, right, up-right and so on. However when I press more than one arrow key, the movement speed stacks (http://gfycat.com/CircularBewitchedBarebirdbat). How could I counteract this? Here is relevant part of my code: var speed : int = 5; function Update () { if(Input.GetKey(KeyCode.UpArrow)){ transform.Translate(Vector3.forward * speed * Time.deltaTime); } else if(Input.GetKey(KeyCode.UpArrow) && Input.GetKey(KeyCode.RightArrow)){ transform.Translate(Vector3.forward * speed * Time.deltaTime); } else if(Input.GetKey(KeyCode.UpArrow) && Input.GetKey(KeyCode.LeftArrow)){ transform.rotation = Quaternion.AngleAxis(315, Vector3.up); } if(Input.GetKey(KeyCode.DownArrow)){ transform.Translate(Vector3.forward * speed * Time.deltaTime); } }

  • Ubuntu freezes while working

    - by webid4me
Ubuntu on my laptop has frozen multiple times in last 6-7 months. Its not frequent but I can not relate the freezing to anything which I was doing. Today it froze again when I was taking notes in class - approximately at 12:00 PM. During the freeze both mouse and keyboard stopped working. I tried Alt-Ctrl-F1, Alt-Ctrl-F2 etc without any success. After that I waited few minutes & then I restarted the laptop. I checked /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log and it seems that it did not log anything (I was not able to understand most of it). Please let me know if you can find something unusual at around 12:00 PM. Is there any other log which might be useful? Here are the /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log files.

  • Please help me here

    - by ubuntulover
I hate f**g problems. I installed ubuntu just some minutes ago. It said Installation finished, you need to restart your computer. Okay when installation finished then what's there any need of a cd in the drive. So I removed it and the screen gone blank and hanged. Mouse pointer now not moving. I put cd again and forcefully restarted the computer then it came up with installation option again. I hated this. Then again I removed the cd from drive and forcefully restarted computer and now I'm on my ubuntu desktop. I want your comments. Is everything well? All seems to be normal now but I still want to talk with you. :/

  • Super slow and laggy?

    - by Mystogan
I'm a native Windows user, running 7 Home Premium atm. In the past I installed Ubuntu 10 on my netbook I believe, but was a bit 'scared' by it. Anyways, I made a partition on my desktop pc, 100gb and installed Ubuntu 12.10 on it. It was pretty slow first thought it had to install updates or something, so I rebooted it. Now after the login it looks like everything freezes, I can move my mouse only ,but that's it! I can see my desktop and launcher, but the task bar doesn't display time and misc system info, only a black bar, I downloaded the android SDK pack and installed vlc media player before I rebooted. My computer info: - 1tb HDD - 8gb ddr3 ram - ATI Radeon 4890 videocard (1gb) - AMD Phenom 2 x4 black 3,2ghz CPU(64 bits) Thanks in advantage!

  • Video Bug in Ubuntu 12.10 MSI CX623 laptop

    - by user104731
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xyJkS8XjgA&feature=youtu.be I managed to take a video with what happens on my Ubuntu 12.10 laptop when I play with the volume and hover with the mouse over the slider and when I press Ctrl + Alt + D (show Desktop/minimize all) The real bugs are those in which the panel becomes transparent on the down side, exactly above the volume slider (and not only when that slider appears, but also when brightness slider appears, and when blocking my touchpad applet appears) and when I have a maximized window, more maximized windows or a non maximized window that touches the panel, while I use Ctrl+Alt+D (show Desktop/hide all normal windows). Is there a way to solve this bug? PS: The other bugs are from Record My Desktop. I didn't have the mentioned bugs in ubuntu 12.04, but I like more the graphics in 12.10.

  • Stuck in screen saver during upgrade

    - by vinni_f
I'm upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04. The screen saver is now on and I can't exit it. If I type my password or move the mouse the screen flickers. Regardless of what I do the screen saver stays and the login prompt never shows. If I type my password and then enter it, it does nothing. Last time I checked the packages were all downloaded and I was in the install process. I really want this upgrade to work. It would be really bad to have to restart from a fresh install. Cheers.

  • Youtube controls (sound, etc) not functional in full-screen mode: is that normal?

    - by mlvljr
When playing youtube videos full-screen, I can't mouse-interact with the player controls, except for the slider (only single-clicking on the video works as play/pause, but not double-click, interestingly, so the only way to leave full-screen mode is via Escape). Is this behavior known? What can I do about it? I'm on Ubuntu 12.04, using Google's Chrome browser. P.S. If that matters, some other flash players I've tried also display the same problem, so this may be an issue with Google-supplied Flash plugin. Thanks in advance.

  • Ubuntu 12.10 shows no launcher or menu

    - by Guy Wms
I have 'upgraded' to Ubuntu 12.10 from a previous nice version that always worked. I have installed from a CD downloaded from this site. I start the PC (HP Pavillion zv5200) and arrive at a signon screen which has my username and "Guest". This screen shows the menu at the top with power, time, calendar, etc. So I enter my password and I am taken to a screen which only shows a wallpaper, nothing else. If I move the mouse and 'push' against the left limit I do not get a launcher app. Nothing. The only thing that works is opening a terminal (ctrl+alt+F1). I have tried several of the hot-key combinations I've read about on the site but none do anything, nothing happens. Can anyone help? Thanks very much!

  • How do I make 3finger multitouch work on Samsung 530?

    - by RiaD
I have Samsung 530U4C. How can I configure 3-finger gestures to work? Choosing next photo using 3 finger "scrool" worked in Windows 7. If I use synclient TapButton3=2 I may use it as medium mouse button, but there's problem: it gets cancelled after reboot, and as I read over the Internet, sometime else. Moreover, it would be great to see all gestures my laptop support and configure them all as I need. I find some info about touchegg, but I didn't manage to understand what it exactly is and even run it. Two-finger gestures works fine(configured using System setting menu)

  • Is there any way to keep launchers synchronized among machines?

    - by MMA
Most of us use more than one machine for our purpose. The scenario for me is to use one at home, another at office. When comes to the launcher at left, the applications get added in chronological order. You can click and drag an application in launcher, but this is a tedious process. If your application placements are different among the machines, you loose the intuitive mouse click. You need to spend a few seconds to find out where actually the launcher is before you click on it. Is there any way I can keep the launcher applications (at least the locked ones) synchronized among machines? Thanks.

  • Application window as polygon texture?

    - by nekome
Is there a way, or method, to have some application rendered as texture in 3D scene on some polygon, and also have full interactivity with it? I'm talking about Windows platform, and maybe OpenGL but I guess it doesn't matter is it OGL or DX. For example: I run Calculator using WINAPI functions (preferably hidden, not showing on desktop) and I want to render it inside 3D scene on some polygon but still be able to type or click buttons and have it respond. My idea to realize this is to have WINAPI take screenshot (or render it to memory if possible) of that Calculator and pass it to OpenGL as texture for each frame (I'm experimenting with SDL through pygame) and for mouse interactivity to use coordination translation and calculate where on application window it would act, and then use WINAPI functions such as SetCursorPos to set cursor ant others to simulate click or something else. I haven't found any tutorials with topic similar to this one. Am I on a right track? Is there better way to do this if possible at all?

  • How can I implement smooth rotation from one direction to another?

    - by user1759052
I'm having a problem with animating rotations with 1Matrix.CreateRotationY() with my basic 3D game. Based on where you click the mouse, I want the 3D object to rotate to that direction and then move. I am using this to determine the target direction: float rot = (float)(Math.Atan2(X, Z)); It gives me the correct value, but I am not sure how to handle the rotation animation from current direction to new direction. I've tried a few things, but to no avail. Do you guys know of any good ways of solving this issue?

  • appearance incomplete

    - by user288986
I'm using 14:04 which is pretty nice. Something wionders me: if I open a window (e.g. Ubuntu Software Centre) I can see SOME items (sometimes nothing) but by hovering the mouse over it it appears - and then disappears again. Sometimes the side mover acts the same way... Maybe it has to do with my hardware: P4, 3 GHz, 2 GB RAM, older graphics board, KVM-switch? There's no difference whether I use Gnome, Ubuntu standard, Ubuntu classic, Ubuntu fallback... Thanks for hints Jens

  • Capture an area of a game, display it in a small window

    - by steakbbq
I am looking to make a program that accomplishes some simple goals. I need to be able to specify an area of my screen to have reproduced in a window. Similar to who the windows magnifier works. I also need it to stay on top. I also need it to be transparent. I also need it to be ghost like(mouse clicks go through it) so the application below can be interacted with still. Here is what I am trying to do. What would be the best way to go about it? http://i.imgur.com/0ahi7.jpg

  • My screen is messed up, using GeForce 8400 GS NVIDIA

    - by Ask Me
My screen is all messed up. I can see everything beside my start menu and when I scroll up the mouse arrow goes up and out of the screen. It's not normal. Do I need to install "GeForce 8400 GS NVIDIA" drivers on my Ubuntu 12.10 32-bit machine? Please be very patient with me and use very simple words that a simple newbie could understand. I am very very new to this OS and I don't know much of the Ubuntu/Linux terminology. Thanks guys, stay blessed.

  • Ubuntu 13.10 is terrible

    - by user137017
I was satisfied with 13.04. But when I upgraded to 13.10, I've had a lot of issues and some things just no longer work. To name a few problems: Can't change the brightness My laptop makes more noise than before It freezes more frequently (the kind that doesn't respond to ctr + alt + f2) Sometimes it boots up and and can't play any media files When running a full screened virtual machine in Workstation, ubuntu catches mouse at the edges When I have a VM opened in Workstation and I try to open up another, the first one gets powered off Most irritatingly, when I have a virtual machine running in full screen, every now and then the vm screen goes black and I have to switch to the host and come back 13.10 has offered nothing to compensate for these problems. I would like to get some advice about what I can do. Should I stick with 13.10 and hope the bugs will be fixed? Would a clean reinstall of 13.10 help? Btw, I'm giving some thought to trying other distros.

  • BSOD Before Windows Will Loads - Graphics Related

    - by Brian
Alright deep breath here: (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit btw) Today I installed Star Craft 2 Beta. After trying to log in, it had some issues where it said my device stopped working (referring to my video device I have to imagine). After I force quit the game there were some random "hot" (various colors if i remember correctly) pixels on the screen. I decided to reboot and try again with similar results. I figured that maybe my display drivers could stand to be updated (I don't frequently update them as I don't often run into problems). I went out to nVidia's website and grabbed the latest drivers for Windows 7 64 bit GeForce 9 series. (I have SLi-ed 9800 GTs). Everything seemed to install fine and I performed the restart. This is when things went from bad (can't play SC2 beta ;) ) to worse (can't boot into windows!). Initially the very first splash screen - I think it's the bios splash screen - had lines of colored pixels covering it. It then displayed a screen that had lots of "(" on it. After that it showed the normal windows 7 splash screen as if it were going to load into Windows. Before getting much further, it BSODed on me. It was a 0x0000003B stop error. At nvlddmkm.sys. A little digging let verified that this was a problem with an nVidia graphics device, not a real shocker. Windows decided it would try to help me diagnose the problem, which it's only answer to was a System Restore, which did nothing to alleviate the problem. I was able to boot up fine in safe mode and was not able to roll back the driver, however I did uninstall the driver and reboot. I still had the graphical anomalies during the first two screens (same colored "."'s and weird "("'s), but there was NOT a stop error. Windows loaded up, found a default driver for the device and installed it and I restarted to let it load - and had yet another BSOD Stop error. Repeat driver uninstall, this time I reloaded the same version (I think it's possible that I was running a 32 bit version or a vista versus windows 7 version, but I don't have that information handy) of the nVidia driver from their website. Restart, same anomalies, same Stop Error. I am at a loss - At this point all I can think is that the firmware for the Video cards got fried or there's actual damage to the cards which I sincerely hope is not the case but the sooner I know the better. Any insight into what I might be able to do to troubleshoot/fix this problem would be most helpful. Attached below is a dump from DxDiag. • WPF ToggleButton changing image depending on state

    - by mack369
    I would like to use ToggleButton in following way: There are 5 different images and each of them should be displayed depending on current state: button disabled button enabled, unchecked button enabled, unchecked, pointed by mouse cursor button enabled, checked button enabled, checked, pointed by mouse cursor I've found a simple example with two images on http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wpf/thread/28c36bd2-2ef7-4232-9976-2a0967140e32 , but how to change the image depending on "checked" property? The second question: how can I avoid creating different styles for each button in my application? I'm using about 20 different buttons and each of them has different set of icons. So far I'm using only one icon, below my code. Is it possible to have common code (style and template) and to define the source of images in section where I want to create button (like in section 3 of my code)? <ControlTemplate x:Key="ToggleButtonTemplate" TargetType="{x:Type ToggleButton}"> <Grid> <Border x:Name="ContentBorder" CornerRadius="4" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="1" Background="{DynamicResource ButtonOff}"> <ContentPresenter SnapsToDevicePixels="{TemplateBinding SnapsToDevicePixels}" HorizontalAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalContentAlignment}" Margin="{TemplateBinding Padding}" VerticalAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalContentAlignment}" RecognizesAccessKey="True"/> </Border> </Grid> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsPressed" Value="true"> <Setter TargetName="ContentBorder" Property="Background" Value="{DynamicResource ButtonOn}"/> </Trigger> <Trigger Property="IsChecked" Value="true"> <Setter TargetName="ContentBorder" Property="Background" Value="{DynamicResource ButtonOn}"/> </Trigger> <Trigger Property="IsEnabled" Value="false"> <Setter TargetName="ContentBorder" Property="Background" Value="{DynamicResource ButtonDisabled}"/> <Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{DynamicResource BorderDisabled}"/> </Trigger> </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate> <Style x:Key="ToggleButtonStyle" TargetType="{x:Type ToggleButton}"> <Setter Property="Width" Value="64" /> <Setter Property="Height" Value="64" /> <Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Center"/> <Setter Property="VerticalContentAlignment" Value="Center"/> <Setter Property="Template" Value="{DynamicResource ToggleButtonTemplate}" /> </Style> <ToggleButton IsChecked="{Binding Path=IsLectorModeEnabled}" Command="{Binding CmdLector}" Style="{DynamicResource ToggleButtonStyle}"> <Image Source="{DynamicResource LectorImage}" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center" Stretch="None" /> </ToggleButton>

  • Disabling text selection in DocumentViewer

    - by bjutus
Hello! Simple question. How do you disable the text selection of DocumentViewer in WPF? This is the feature where an XPS document is displayed by the viewer and then text can be highlighted via mouse. The highlighted text can also be copied but I have already disabled this. I just don't know how to disable the highlighting. Thanks!

  • jQuery AutoComplete select firing after change?

    - by Zarigani
    I'm using the jQuery UI AutoComplete control (just updated to jQuery UI 1.8.1). Whenever the user leaves the text box, I want to set the contents of the text box to a known-good value and set a hidden ID field for the value that was selected. Additionally, I want the page to post back when the contents of the text box are changed. Currently, I am implementing this by having the autocomplete select event set the hidden id and then a change event on the text box which sets the textbox value and, if necessary, causes a post back. If the user just uses the keyboard, this works perfectly. You can type, use the up and down arrows to select a value and then tab to exit. The select event fires, the id is set and then the change event fires and the page posts back. If the user starts typing and then uses the mouse to pick from the autocomplete options though, the change event fires (as focus shifts to the autocomplete menu?) and the page posts back before the select event has a chance to set the ID. Is there a way to get the change event to not fire until after the select event, even when a mouse is used? $(function() { var txtAutoComp_cache = {}; var txtAutoComp_current = { label: $('#txtAutoComp').val(), id: $('#hiddenAutoComp_ID').val() }; $('#txtAutoComp').change(function() { if (this.value == '') { txtAutoComp_current = null; } if (txtAutoComp_current) { this.value = txtAutoComp_current.label ? txtAutoComp_current.label : txtAutoComp_current; $('#hiddenAutoComp_ID').val(txtAutoComp_current.id ? txtAutoComp_current.id : txtAutoComp_current); } else { this.value = ''; $('#hiddenAutoComp_ID').val(''); } // Postback goes here }); $('#txtAutoComp').autocomplete({ source: function(request, response) { var jsonReq = '{ "prefixText": "' + request.term.replace('\\', '\\\\').replace('"', '\\"') + '", "count": 0 }'; if (txtAutoComp_cache.req == jsonReq && txtAutoComp_cache.content) { response(txtAutoComp_cache.content); return; } $.ajax({ url: 'ajaxLookup.asmx/CatLookup', contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8', dataType: 'json', data: jsonReq, type: 'POST', success: function(data) { txtAutoComp_cache.req = jsonReq; txtAutoComp_cache.content = data.d; response(data.d); if (data.d && data.d[0]) { txtAutoComp_current = data.d[0]; } } }); }, select: function(event, ui) { if (ui.item) { txtAutoComp_current = ui.item; } $('#hiddenAutoComp_ID').val(ui.item ? ui.item.id : ''); } }); });
