• Correctly parsing an ATOM feed

  I currently have setup a Python script that uses feedparser to read a feed and parse it. However, I have recently come across a problem with the date parsing. The feed I am reading contains <modified>2010-05-05T24:17:54Z</modified> - which comes up in Python as a datetime object - 2010-05-06 00:17:54. Notice the discrepancy: the feed entry was modified on the 5th of may, while python reads it as the 6th. So the question is why this is happening. Is the ATOM feed (that is, the one who created the feed) wrong by putting the time as 24:17:54, or is my python script wrong in the way it treats it. And can I solve this?

• How to convert a gi-normous integer (in string format) to hex format? (C#)

  Given a potentially huge integer value (in c# string format), I want to be able to generate it's hex equivalent. Normal methods don't apply here as we are talking arbitrarily large numbers, 50 digits or more. The techniques I've seen which use a technique like this: // Store integer 182 int decValue = 182; // Convert integer 182 as a hex in a string variable string hexValue = decValue.ToString("X"); // Convert the hex string back to the number int decAgain = int.Parse(hexValue, System.Globalization.NumberStyles.HexNumber); won't work because the integer to convert is too large.   I'm using Text.ParserCombinators.Parsec and Text.XHtml to parse an input and get a HTML output. If my input is: * First item, First level ** First item, Second level ** Second item, Second level * Second item, First level My output should be: <ul><li>First item, First level <ul><li>First item, Second level </li><li>Second item, Second level </li></ul></li><li>Second item, First level</li></ul> I wrote this, but obviously does not work recursively list= do{ s <- many1 item;return (olist << s) } item= do{ (count 1 (char '*')) ;s <- manyTill anyChar newline ;return ( li << s) } Any ideas? the recursion can be more than two levels Thanks!

• Filter user input (paragraph) for links + smileys

  Hello, I am looking at some sort of existing filter which can sanitize the user input to avoid XSS. Probably I can use htmlspecialchars for that. But at the same time I want to be able to parse all links (should match a.com, www.a.com and http://www.a.com and if it is http://www.aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.com then it should display it as aaa..a.com), e-mails and smileys. I am wondering what is the best way to go about it. I am currently using a php function with some regex, but many times the regex simply fails (because of link recognition is incorrect etc.). I want something very similar to the parser used during Google Chat (even a.com works). Thank you for your time.

  I'm trying to print/save a certain element's HTML from a web-page. I've retrieved the requested element's XPath from firebug. All I wish is to save this element to a file. I don't seem to succeed in doing so. • Safest way to change variable names in a project

  So I've been working on a relatively large project by myself, and I've come to realise that some of the variable names earlier on were.. less than ideal. But how does one change variable names in a project easily? Is there such a tool that can go through a project directory, parse all the files, and then replace the variable names to the desired one? It has to be smart enough to understand the language I imagine. I was thinking of using regexp (sed/awk on linux?) tools to just replace the variable name, but there were many times where my particular variable is also included as a part of strings. There's also the issue about changing stuff on a c++ namespace, because there is actually two classes in my project that share the same name, but are in different namespaces. I remember visual stuio being able to do this, but what's the safest and most elegant way to do this on linux?

  I am looking to allow HTML emails (and other HTML uploads) without letting in scripts and stuff. I plan to have a white list of safe tags and attributes as well as a whitelist of CSS tags and value regexes (to prevent automatic return receipt). I asked a question: Parse a badly formatted XML document (like an HTML file) I found there are many many ways to do this. Some systems have built in sanitizers (which I don't care so much about). I will post some answers and say Community Wiki. Please post any other options you like and say Community Wiki so they can be voted on. Also any comments or wiki edits on what part of a certain product is better and what is not would be greatly appreciated.   OK, I know how to call a simple old fashion asmx webservice webthod that returns a single value as a function return result. But what if I want to return multiple output params? My current approach is to separate the params by a dividing character and parse them on teh client. Is there a better way. Here's how I return a single function result. • Java: opening and reading from a file without locking it.

  I need to be able to mimic 'tail -f' with Java. I'm trying to read a log file as it's being written by another process, but when I open the file to read it, it locks the file and the other process can't write to it anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated!   Hello Can I distinguish signal, between delivered directly to a process and delivered via debugger. Case 1: $ ./process1 process1 (not ptraced) set up handler alarm(5); .... signal is handled and I can parse handler parameters Case 2: $ debugger1 ./process1 process1 (is ptraced by debugger1) set up handler alarm(5); ... signal is catched by debugger1. It resumes process1 with PTRACE_CONT, signal_number is 4th parameter of PTRACE_CONT. signal is redelivered to process1 it is handled. So, how can I detect in signal handler, was it redelivered by debugger or send by system? OS is Linux, kernel is 2.6.30. Programs are written in plain C.

• Huge file in Clojure and Java heap space error

  I posted before on a huge XML file - it's a 287GB XML with Wikipedia dump I want ot put into CSV file (revisions authors and timestamps). I managed to do that till some point. Before I got the StackOverflow Error, but now after solving the first problem I get: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space error. • Formatting code snippets for blogging on Blogger

  My blog is hosted on Blogger and I frequently post code snippets in C / C# / Java / XML etc. but I find the snippet gets "mangled". Are there any web sites that I could use to parse the snippet beforehand and sort out the formatting, convert XML "<" to "<" etc. There are a numbers of questions around this area on SO but I couldn't find any that address this question directly. Edit: For @Rich answer, site states "To display the formatted code on your site, you need to get this CSS stylesheet, and add a reference to it in the section of your page". That's the problem - you can't do this on Blogger AFAIK.

• Parsing boolean from configuration section in web.config

  I have a custom configuration section in my web.config. One of my classes is grabbing from this: <myConfigSection LabelVisible="" TitleVisible="true"/> I have things working for parsing if I have true or false, however if the attribute is blank I am getting errors. When the config section tries to map the class to the configuration section I get an error of "not a valid value for bool" on the 'LabelVisible' part. How can I parse "" as false in my myConfigSection class? I have tried this: [ConfigurationProperty("labelsVisible", DefaultValue = true, IsRequired = false)] public bool? LabelsVisible { get { return (bool?)this["labelsVisible"]; } But when I try and use what is returned like so: graph.Label.Visible = myConfigSection.LabelsVisible; I get an error of: 'Cannot implicitly convert type 'bool?' to 'bool'. • What CPAN module can summarize arbitrary error logs?

  I'm maintaining some website code that will soon dump all its errors and warnings into a log file. In order to make this a bit more pro-active I plan to parse this log file daily, summarize the warnings and errors (i.e. count the occurrence of each specific one and group by either warning/error) and then email this to the devs on the project. This would likely admittedly be rather trivial with a hash and some further fiddling, I wondered if there is a suitable module on CPAN that I could use to do this task. It would either be one that summarizes specifically Perl error/warnings logs or one that summarizes arbitrary text files. Any suggestions?

• RMI java doesn't create skeleton class

  I wrote a remote service MyremoteImpl.java and used following command after compiled it. rmic MyRemoteImpl I learned that this method suppose to create stub class and a skeleton class but I can only see the stub class, why is that? • How do you assign a variable with the result of a if..else block?

  I had an argument with a colleague about the best way to assign a variable in an if..else block. His orignal code was : @products = if params[:category] Category.find(params[:category]).products else Product.all end I rewrote it this way : if params[:category] @products = Category.find(params[:category]).products else @products = Product.all end This could also be rewritten with a one-liner using a ternery operator (? :) but let's pretend that product assignment was longer than a 100 character and couldn't fit in one line. Which of the two is clearer to you? The first solution takes a little less space but I thought that declaring a variable and assigning it three lines after can be more error prone. I also like to see my if and else aligned, makes it easier for my brain to parse it!
