  I see some unexpected lines in my Apache (1.3!) error.log. What is happening here? My isp has complained in the past about proxying attempts... how do I check for them? Last friday we installed some windows updates. After the reboot tomcat doesnt start with error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap We reduced the parameter -Xmx1024m to -Xmx768m and now tomcat starts. But we need greater max heap size What happened to our servers ? Thanks in advance.

• Finding trends in multi-category data in Excel

  I have an Excel spreadsheet that contains hundreds of rows of data that each represent a single sample in a larger population. Each row is divided into three columns that contain frequency counts of a specific type of thing. Together the three columns summed on a single row represent 100%, though each row will sum to a different value. What I'm most interested in are the proportions of each of these types (ie. percentages of each column relative to the sum of the three columns). I can easily calculate this on a per-row basis, but what I'm really interested in is trying to find an overall trend from the entire population. I don't really spend much time doing data analysis so the only thing I can think of trying is to create those percentage columns and then average them, but I'm sure there must be a better way to visualise this.

  I have a small website where some content is displayed within a HTML tag using AJAX. The content is simply taken from another page on the same web site. However, sometimes instead of loading the parsed PHP file, the browser displays a download box instead. I downloaded the file and this is what it looks like a text file mixed with binary or gzipped data.   I try to setup replication from slave to the master. CHANGE MASTER TO MASTER_HOST = 'master', MASTER_PORT = 3306, MASTER_USER = 'repl', MASTER_PASSWORD = 'xxx'; And I did grant privileges to the user on master. • How flexible is the 'indirect' function?

  My curiosity pushes me to ask this question. If I were to have a series of functions that referenced a different column in a worksheet but all ended on the same row of data is there a way to point the 'row' part of a cell reference to a blank cell and use it has a variable to show the results of the functions up to a desired row simultaneously? Example: =Average('worksheet 1'.$A$1:'worksheet 1'.$A100) =Max('worksheet 1'.$B$1:'worksheet 1'.$B100) =Min('worksheet 1'.$C$1:'worksheet 1'.$C100) =Sum('worksheet 1'.$D$1:'worksheet 1'.$D100) Pseudo formulas... =Average('worksheet 1'.$A$1:'worksheet 1'.$A*('worksheet 2'.$A$1)*) =Max('worksheet 1'.$B$1:'worksheet 1'.$B*('worksheet 2'.$A$1)*) =Min('worksheet 1'.$C$1:'worksheet 1'.$C*('worksheet 2'.$A$1)*) =Sum('worksheet 1'.$D$1:'worksheet 1'.$D*('worksheet 2'.$A$1)*) Where 'worksheet 2'.$A$1 would only contain a number corresponding to a row in 'worksheet 1'. After stumbling upon and playing with the indirect() function I have only been able to replace the entire cell reference (Column and Row) with any success. The formula so far =SUM('worksheet 1'.C3:INDIRECT(A1)) Where A1 is on 'worksheet 2' and contains a full cell reference pointing to 'worksheet 1'. Any pointers?

• JBoss thrown error looking up local address when starting

  Hello im installing a fresh Jboss 5.1 in a Centos 5.5 machine. I dont have Apache installed. So when I try to start jboss using the comand ./run.sh I get the following error 15:13:57,414 INFO [JMXKernel] Legacy JMX core initialized 15:14:03,856 ERROR [ServerInfo] Error looking up local address java.net.UnknownHostException: dhcppc1: dhcppc1 at java.net.InetAddress.getLocalHost(InetAddress.java:1354) at org.jboss.system.server.ServerInfo.getHostAddress(ServerInfo.java:364) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) .... After that i can run Jboss only from 127.0.0.1:8080 but using localhost:8080 doesnt work. I think its a centos configuration problem but im a total newbye managing ports and maybe firewalls, so what do you think could be the problem?

• sshd running but no PID file

  I'm recently started using monit to monitor the status of sshd on my CentOS 5.4 server. This works fine, but every so often monit reports that sshd is no longer running. This isn't true - I am still able to login to the server via ssh, however I note the following: There is no longer any PID file at /var/run/sshd.pid - after a reboot this file exists. Once it is gone, restarting sshd via service sshd restart does not create the PID file. sudo service sshd status reports openssh-daemon is stopped - again, restarting sshd does not change this, but a reboot does. sudo service sshd stop reports failed, presumably because of the missing PID file. Any idea what is going on? Update sudo netstat -lptun gives the following output relating to port 22 tcp 0 0 :::22 :::* LISTEN 20735/sshd Killing the process with this PID as suggested by @Henry and then starting sshd via service results in service sshd status recognising the process by PID again. Would still like to understand this better. RPM verify suggested by a couple of answerers shows this: sudo rpm -vV openssh openssh-server openssh-clients | grep 'S\.5' S.5....T c /etc/pam.d/sshd S.5....T c /etc/ssh/sshd_config /etc/pam.d/sshd has the following contents: #%PAM-1.0 auth include system-auth account required pam_nologin.so account include system-auth password include system-auth session optional pam_keyinit.so force revoke session include system-auth #session required pam_loginuid.so Should that last line be commented out? • Show cell selection in Excel when not in focus

  It's really annoying that Excel (2003 and 2007) doesn't show what cell, row or column that is selected when the window is not in focus. I typically want to refer to the current cell or row while working in another application. Is there any workaround or fix that will make the cell/row highlighted when not in focus? I know that you can copy a cell (Ctrl+C) but it's kind of tiresome to do that every time.

• Windows 7 Taskbar doesn't remember configuration

  Hi all... I have my taskbar on Win7 all customized. I have it at the top of the screen, and i have the address bar, desktop toolbar, and a custom folder toolbar all turned on. I have it set to two rows, and have the taskbar and desktop on one row and the address bar and custom folder on the second row. When i shutdown then restart my computer it remembers that i have the taskbar at the top of the screen, but it does not remember the way i had the various bars organized, and it just makes it a single row with the bars all mushed together on one row. Anyone else had this/know how to fix it? Running Win7 Ultimate x64.

I am making an Excel Worksheet that simply stores basic financial data in 5 columns (Check Number, Date of Transaction, Description, Profit from Transaction, and Balance After Transaction) and indefinite rows. Each worksheet represents one month, and each Workbook represents a year. As I make or receive a payment, I store it as a new row, which, inherently, makes the number of rows per month indefinite. Each transaction's Balance cell is the sum of the Balance cell of the row above it and the Profit cell of its row. I want each month to start off with a special row (first one after column headers) that displays a summary of the last month's transactions. For instance, the Balance After Transaction cell would display the last row's balance, and the Profit from Transaction cell would display the overall profits of the month) I know that if I knew every month had exactly 100 expenses, I could achieve this for March with the following formulas for profit and balance, respectively: =February!E2 - February!E102 =February!E102 However, I do NOT know how many rows will be in each month's table, and I'd like to automate this as much as possible (for instance, if I find a missed or duplicated expense in January, I don't want to have to update all the formulas that point to the ending January balance). How can I have Excel automatically use the last entered value in a column, in any given Excel spreadsheet, in a formula?

• Converted VmWare Image does not boot in Virtual Box

  I have a .vddx virtual image which boots in VmWare, but I'm having trouble getting it to work with Sun Virtual Box. In Sun Virtual Box, I created a new Virtual Machine and pointed it at the vddx file from VmWare. When I try to boot the virtual machine, Sun Virtual Box says that the volume is not bootable. VmWare is able to boot from this virtual machine. Does anyone have any suggestions about what might be causing the problem? Is there a conversion utility that I need to run? Any debugging options that I could turn on?

• Table Formatting in Word

  I have a table in Word which is 5 columns wide and multiple rows. In Row 3, cells 1, 2, 3 & 5 have simple text. Cell 4 contains a large quantity of text and therefore needs to wrap over several pages. Therefore, I mark "Allow row to break across pages". Problem: on next page where row has wrapped, cells 1, 2, 3 & 5 are blank with cell 4 displaying the wrapped text. Is there any way that I can get the simple text from Row 3, cells 1, 2 and 3 to repeat on the pages which contain the wrapped text of cell 4? I do not want the data to be in the table heading, as I have multiple rows which have a similar volume of text.

  I am running Ubuntu and am ultimately trying to connect Tomcat to my MySQL database using JDBC. It has worked previously but after a reboot the instance now fails to connect. Both Tomcat 6 and MySQL 5.0.75 are on the same machine Connection string: jdbc:mysql:///localhost:3306 I can connect to MySQL on the command line using the mysql command The my.cnf file is pretty standard (Available on request) has bind address: 127.0.0.1 I cannot Telnet to the MySQL port despite netstat saying MySQL is listening I have one IpTables rule to forward 80 - 8080 and no firewall I'm aware of. I'm pretty new to this and I'm not sure what else to test. I don't know whether I should be looking in etc/interfaces and if I did what to look for. It's weird because it used to work but after a reboot it's down so I must have changed something.... :). I realise a timeout indicates the server is not responding and I assume it's because the request isn't actually getting through. I installed MySQL via apt-get and Tomcat manually. What I would like to do is to select certain episodes from the table housemdep (episodes of the show) and if any are selected it shows them as this: House M.D. showing on Channel 1 June 6th - 8:00pm "Wilson" Set Reminder House M.D. showing on Channel 1 June 7th - 1:30am "Wilson" Set Reminder House M.D. showing on Channel 1 June 7th - 12:55pm "House's Head" Set Reminder or like this, if I have not selected an episode from the row: House M.D. showing on Channel 1 June 7th - 8:00pm "House's Head" Set Reminder House M.D. showing on Channel 1 June 8th - 9:00pm Set Reminder House M.D. showing on Channel 1 June 9th - 2:30pm Set Reminder House M.D. showing on Channel 1 June 7th - 8:00pm "Que Sera Sera" Set Reminder Foreign keys and relationship of interlinked tables are new to me, if anyone could help I'd appreciate this. I've tried some of what Google suggested on foreign keys in another version of this script (this is a clone of the original on my localhost server running Apache and PHP 5.28/MySQL), but am not sure how to implement this.
