• iPhone Bluetooth application to connect to a Bluetooth printer

  Hi, Has anybody succeeded in developing a bluetooth application on the iPhone that prints to a Bluetooth printer? I have been investigating the feasibility of developing an iPhone application that could print to a Bluetooth-enabled printer. I've gone through the most of the postings in this thread and was confused by the mail exchanges. As per my analysis: Gamekit - can be used for bluetooth connectivity between iPhones and IPods ONLY Bonjour - can be used for wi-fi connectivity between iPhones/IPods and bonjour-enabled printer We can use an external accessory to connect to a third party Bluetooth-enabled printer provided the 3rd-party printer complies with the necessary regulations from Apple (registering for either “Made for iPod”/ “Works with iPhone”, and also customizing their printer with specific hardware/software, etc.) Could someone please share their experiences?

• UITableView background customization strange behavior

  Hi, There is a couple of hours that I'm trying to set a tableView background image. My controller is a subclass of UITableViewController, and I simply wrote this lines of code in ViewDidLoad method. UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"home-portrait-iphone.png"]; UIImageView *imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image]; self.tableView.backgroundView = imageView; Everything looks great on the simulator, I mean, I see my table and as background view, y can see the image. But when the app is running on the device (ipod touch), I get this error: Program received signal: “SIGABRT”. and the stack says: * -[UITableView setBackgroundView:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x812e00 Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '** -[UITableView setBackgroundView:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x812e00' and the exception is thrown in the assignment, a mean this line: self.tableView.backgroundView = imageView; any ideas? • Resharper doesn't play well with XAML?

  I've been noticing a pattern with ReSharper (both 4.5 and 5). Very often (almost always) when I have solution-wide analysis turned on, and WPF code in my solution, ReSharper will mark a number of the .xaml.cs files as being broken. When I navigate to the file, sometimes it magically updates and displays no errors, and other times I have to open other files that are not being correctly read and close them again to force resharper to correctly analyze them. I assume it has something to do with the temporary .cs code that is generated with XAML, but does anyone know why this is actually happening, and if there is a work around? Should I just file a bug report with JetBrains? Does anyone else experience this?

• How to detect defunct processes on Linux?

  I have a parent and a child process written in C language. Somewhere in the parent process HUP signal is sent to the child. I want my parent process to detect if the child is dead. But when I send SIGHUP, the child process becomes a zombie. How can I detect if the child is a zombie in the parent process? I try the code below, but it doesn't return me the desired result since the child process is still there but it is defunct. kill(childPID, 0); One more question; can I kill the zombie child without killing the parent? • How to stop a QDialog from executing while still in the __init__ statement(or immediatly after)?

  I am wondering how I can go about stopping a dialog from opening if certain conditions are met in its __init__ statement. The following code tries to call the 'self.close()' function and it does, but (I'm assuming) since the dialog has not yet started its event loop, that it doesn't trigger the close event? So is there another way to close and/or stop the dialog from opening without triggering an event? • Boost Thread Hanging on _endthreadex

  I think I am making a simple mistake, but since I noticed there are many boost experts here, I thought I would ask for help. I am trying to use boost threads(1_40) on windows xp. The main program loads a dll, starts the thread like so (note this is not in a class, the static does not mean static to a class but private to the file). static boost::thread network_thread; network_start() { // do network stuff until quit is signaled } DllClass::InitInstance() { network_thread = boost::thread(boost::bind<void>(network_start)); } DllClass::ExitInstance() { //signal quit (which works) //the following code is slightly verbose because I'm trying to figure out what's wrong try { if (network_thread.joinable() ) { network_thread.join(); } else { TRACE("Too late!"); } } catch (boost::thread_interrupted&) { TRACE("NET INTERRUPTED"); } } The problem is that the main thread is hanging on the join, and the network thread is hanging at the end of _endthreadex. What am I misunderstanding?

  We are developing some stress and strain analysis software at university. Now it's time to move from rectangles and boxes and spheres to some real models. But I still have little idea where to start. In our software we are going to build mesh and then make calculations, but how do I import solid bodies from CAD/CAE software? 1) How CAD/CAE models are organised? How solid bodies are represented? What are the possibilities of DWG, DXF, IGES, STEP formats? There is e.g. a complete DXF reference, but it's too difficult for me to understand without knowing basic concepts. 2) Are there C++ libraries to import solid bodies from CAD/CAE file formats? Won't it be too difficult to build a complete model to be able to import comprehensive file?

• Get stacktrace from stuck python process

  I have to run a legacy Zope2 website and have some grievance with it. The biggest issue is that, occasionally, it just locks up, running at 100% CPU load and not answering to requests anymore. While the problem isn't reproducible on a regular basis, one page containing 3 dynamic graphs triggers it sometimes, so I suspect some kind of race condition that leads to an endless loop or a stuck busywait. The problem is, I have not yet found a way to debug this thing. There's nothing in the Zope logs and nothing in the system logs. I tried the suggestions from this question to get a stacktrace, but the only signal that has any effect is SIGKILL. Is there another possibility to find out where exactly the process is when it gets stuck?

Some assumptions: • code control version ok - git (de facto tool) • test framework ok - whatever (rspec is my choice) • code coverage and analysis ok - whatever (metric-fu, for example) • server stack ok - (Passenger for example) • issue tracker (RedMine) • etc, ... • Qt QNetworkAccessManager does not emit signals

  The function CheckSite() is called with an url like http://site.com, it initializes a QNetworkAccessManager object and connect() slots and signals. The manger-get() call seems work (it generates http traffic) but does not call the slot replyFinished() at the request end. • Unload image of UIImageView thats offscreen

  Hi, I'm coding an application on Ipad, in a certain point of my application I present a ViewController with the presentModalViewController. My ViewController is a UISScrollView who take the larger of the modalView and inside it I display some images, I allow pagingEnabled so I can see all my images inside the scrollView. Sometimes I have to display more than 10 images inside the scrollView, so I have this error RECEIVE MEMORY WARNING LEVEL=1 after this one RECEIVE MEMORY WARNING LEVEL=2 and finnaly the debugger exited due to signal 10 (Sigbus). What can I do? is there a way to unload the image thats offscreen? or others things to do? Thanks,

• What technical skills needed for algorithmic trading, HFT, etc?

  I'm interested in getting into developing trading systems, black box, HFT, etc. My primary experience is with C# and .Net (7 years). I've also done some sockets programming. I have some experience in finance working on analysis applications (2 years). My goal is to move into developing automated trading systems for a hedge fund, bank, etc. Is there any way to learn the skills needed for this without somehow getting the job first? I've looked at the open source tradelink, IB interactive brokerage, etc. I'm playing around with this framework, and may hook it up and do some paper trading. However, I'm not sure if this has much relationship with how a well-funded entity would be conducting a high-level automated trading operation. I.e. would the tools and frameworks they prefer be a totally different skill-set? Also wondering if I need to learn C++ and/or Java for these types of apps.

• Communicating with the PC via USB connection in Android

  I'm fairly new to android programming and need some information for a 4th year forensics course project. Basically I am trying to create a suite of tools for live analysis of an android phone. I know how to get the information I need on the phone, but I was wondering if there was a way to communicate that information back to the PC? I want to be able to run a program from a PC, which, when the phone is docked, will allow the user to access information about the phone (ie currently running services/processes, bluetooth/wifi connections, etc). I have a bunch of methods that will run on the phone and get all the information, but I want to be able to call those methods from the PC, execute on the phone, then have the information sent back to the PC to display to the user instead of just displaying it on the phone. • UART speed possibly wrong

  My brain is fried, so I thought I would pass this one to the community. When sending 1 character to my embedded system, it consistently thinks it receives 2 characters. The first received character seems to map to the transmitted character (in some unkown way) and the second received character is always 0xff Here is what I observed: Tx char (in hex) Rx character (in hex), I left out the second byte (always ff) 31 9D 32 9B 33 99 61 3D 62 3B 63 39 64 37 65 35 41 7D 42 7B 43 79 I have check my clocks and them seem to be ok. The only diff between this non working version and the previous version is that i am now using a RS485 chip. I have traced the signal all the way up to the MCU and it looks fine (confirmed the bit value on the rx pin)

• Appserver runs out of memory

  We have been facing Out of Memory errors in our App server for sometime. We see the used heap size increasing gradually until finally it reaches the available heap in size. This happens every 3 weeks after which a server restart is needed to fix this. Upon analysis of the heap dumps we find the problem to be objects used in JSPs. Can JSP objects be the real cause of Appserver memory issues? How do we free up JSP objects (Objects which are being instantiated using usebean or other tags)? We have a clustered Websphere appserver with 2 nodes and an IHS.

• Scanf with Signals

  I have a signal that blocks SIGINT and basically says "Sorry, you can't quit.\n" The issue is this can occur during a scanf. When this occurs during a scanf, scanf takes in the printf as input. How can I do a printf that will cause scanf to basically hit the enter key automatically. I don't care that I am getting bad input. I just want to programatically finish that scanf with a printf or something else. Process: scanf("get stuff") - User is able to enter stuff in. - SIGINT occurs and goes to my handler. - Handler says "Blah blah blah" to stdout. - Scanf has taken this blah blah blah and is waiting for more input. How do I make it so that when I return scanf is finished (don't care what it has gathered I just want it to continue without user help).

  Hi, I have been looking into communication methods between two iPhone devices and as I understand it there are two main methods to do this: Bluetooth and WiFi. However I wanted to know if anyone knows of any other way of sharing information between two iPhones? If I were in an area with no WiFi or mobile signal, and couldn't use Bluetooth for whatever reason, is there anything that could be done to broadcast data from one iPhone to another? I'm sure its a bit of a silly question, but if you don't ask, you don't get; and if someone knows of anything I might be able to look into with regards to this, I would be very appreciative.   Is there any POSIX signals that I could utilize in my perl program to create event-driven programming? Currently I have multi-process program that is able to cross communicate but my parent thread is only able to listen to listen at one child at a time. foreach (@threads) { sysread(${$_}{'read'}, my $line, 100); chomp($line); print "Parent hears: $line\n"; } The problem is that the parent sits in a continual wait state until it receives it a signal from the first child before it can continue on. • Python's subprocess.Popen object hangs gathering child output when child process does not exit

  When a process exits abnormally or not at all, I still want to be able to gather what output it may have generated up until that point. • What's the best way to explain parsing to a new programmer?

  I am a college student getting my Computer Science degree. A lot of my fellow students really haven't done a lot of programming. They've done their class assignments, but let's be honest here those questions don't really teach you how to program. I have had several other students ask me questions about how to parse things, and I'm never quite sure how to explain it to them. Is it best to start just going line by line looking for substrings, or just give them the more complicated lecture about using proper lexical analysis, etc. to create tokens, use BNF, and all of that other stuff? They never quite understand it when I try to explain it. What's the best approach to explain this without confusing them or discouraging them from actually trying.

Now I want to create a Method where the selected Rows (or the whole Line) will be copied into the QClipboard. After that I want to insert it into my OpenOffice.Calc-Document. • 3rd party data - Store in Data Warehouse or Primary database?

  This is mostly a data warehouse philosophy question. My project involves an Oracle forms application, and a Teradata Data Warehouse for reporting and ad-hoc purposes. In addition to the primary data created by the users of our application, we also require data from various other sources. Currently, this 3rd party data comes via FTPd flat files directly to our Data Warehouse. To access the data, our users must use a series of custom BusinessObjects reports. My question is, would it make more sense for this data to be sent to our source Oracle system instead? Is it ever appropriate for a Data Warehouse to be the point of origin for users to access raw data? In short, is it more important that the operational database contain only the data created by your project, or that the data warehouse remain dedicated solely to reporting and analysis?
