  • Server unresponsive after successful OpenSSL connection

    I'm testing server connections using OpenSSL, with varying results Server A: connection is successful, as are user login and the other commands I expected to work Server B: connection is successful, but the server is unresponsive when I try to submit a command. I don't get an error, or even a disconnection – just a blank line from where I hit Enter or ^M My hunch is that Server B's configuration requires a different character encoding or something and it's simply not recognizing my Enter keystroke, but I've looked to no avail... any suggestions would be appreciated!

  • Are there any generic KVM over IP cards/chips for motherboards without any such capability?

    I have a remote server that doesn't have any IP KVM capabilities, meaning I can't remotely power cycle it or access the BIOS. I saw that ASUS offers something for their motherboards here: http://www.asus.com/Server_Workstation/Accessories/ASMB5iKVM/ But is there anything like this available for other motherboards? Even something that I could stash away somewhere in a hard drive bay that simply plugs into the board would be great.

  • Restarting nginx with Capistrano results in 502 Bad Gateway

    Here's what cap deploy does: sudo -p 'sudo password: ' -u root /var/rails_apps/fooapp/current/script/process/reaper reaper simply contains /etc/init.d/nginx restart When I run the same command from the shell, I do not get a 502--everything is fine. The nginx error.log is empty. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I tried packaging the KitchenSink app, but it came up with packaging error. I assume if I can get pass the packaging stage, I can just simply copy and paste the app file into my iPhone (following the previous iPhone guide) THanks

    I'm looking for a tool to sync my bookmarks locally, without uploading them to any website (like xmarks does.) Example: i currently use 1Password to sync my logins/passwords. They are not uploaded to any website. The program simply syncs between devices (Mac OSX, iPad, Windows) on the local network, without the need of any remote server/database. Now i'm looking for a tool that does (kind of) the same thing, for bookmarks.

  • Sun Tool-less Slide Rails Removal for X4150

    I have some tool-less slide rails for some 1ru x4150 sun servers. I can't seem to see how to remove them. Sun in their wisdom did not include this seemingly important information in their documentation; they simply (possibly with a cheeky smile) say to... "Refer to the (long since lost) installation card included with the rackmount kit for instructions on attaching tool-less slide-rail assemblies to the rack." So if anyone knows please let me know.

  • DB2 Integrity Checks and Exception Tables

    I am working on planning a migration of a DB2 8.1 database from a horrible IBM encoding to UTF-8 to support further languages etc. I am encountering an issue that I am stuck on. A few notes on this migration: We are using db2move to export and load the data and db2look to get the details fo the database (tablespaces, tables, keys etc). We found the loading process worked nicely with db2move import, however, the data takes 7 hours to load and this was unacceptable downtime when we actually complete the conversion on the main database. We are now using db2move load, which is much faster as it seems to simply throw the data in without integrity checks. Which leads to my current issue. After completing the db2move load process, several tables are in a check pending state and require integrity checks. Integrity checks are done via the following: set integrity for . immediate checked This works for most tables, however, some tables give an error: DB21034E The command was processed as an SQL statement because it was not a valid Command Line Processor command. During SQL processing it returned: SQL3603N Check data processing through the SET INTEGRITY statement has found integrity violation involving a constraint with name "blah.SQL120124110232400". SQLSTATE=23514 The internets tell me that the solution to this issue is to create an exception table based on the actual table and tell the SET INTEGRITY command to send any exceptions to that table (as below): db2 create table blah_EXCEPTION like blah db2 SET INTEGRITY FOR blah IMMEDIATE CHECKED FOR EXCEPTION IN blah USE blah_EXCEPTION NOW, here is the specific issue I am having! The above forces all the rows with issues to the specified exception table. Well that's just super, buuuuuut I can not lose data in this conversion, its simply unacceptable. The internets and IBM has a vague description of sending the violations to the exception tables and then "dealing with the data" that is in the exception table. Unfortunately, I am not clear what this means and I was hoping that some wise individual knows and could help me out and let me know how I can retrieve this data from these tables and place the data in the original/proper table rather than these exception tables.   • What parts should I get for an ASRock x58 Extreme motherboard

    I just received an ASRock x58 Extreme motherboard, for my post on this question. It was a 2009 Tom's Hardware recommended buy. It is a Core i7 motherboard, with an X58 Express Chipset. It uses DDR3 RAM. What I want to know is, what parts should I get to finish it off. I'm looking for some good bargains, because of a lack of funds. The most taxing game I will probably play on it is OpenTTD. The only parts I currently have that are compatible: A Dynex 400W power supply. It appears to be an ATX 2.1 power supply, with the addition of a -5 rail. Apparently designed to be compatible with most ATX-style motherboards. Several PCI add-in cards. Mostly 10/100 Network cards Some sound cards Some video cards with a VGA connector Plenty of PATA drives. 8 GB - 80 GB Hard-drives A dozen or-so CD-ROM drives, only a handful of them are CD-RW drives. One DVD-ROM drive I have one LCD, with a 15 pin VGA connector, which I salvaged from the dump. The only thing wrong with it was some dead capacitors. It also has a stuck pixel.

  • Can't write to raid on Fedora

    I just did a fresh install of Fedora 11 and added Raid 1 following this tutorial: http://www.optimiz3.com/installing-fedora-11-and-setting-up-a-raid-0-1-5-6-or-10-array/ Now I see the filesystem when I open 'Computer' in the GUI, and I open it and see 'lost+found', but i can't write to the drive. The option is simply greyed out. And when I view Properties on the drive and go to Permissions, it says 'The permissions of {driveid} could not be determined.' Any ideas?

  • How can I prevent tmux exiting with Ctrl-d?

    I use tmux on my server and recently I found to my cost that ctrl-d will exit tmux and lose all the session information, my intention was to simply end the ssh session but failed to notice I was still in tmux until too late. I am aware that I should be careful in future when using ctrl-d but I wondered if there a way to prevent tmux for exiting when hitting ctrl-d by accident? A solution such as a prompt, confirmation or detaching would be fine.

  • When connecting to a unix box, how does it know you have SSH setup on your desktop?

    When you use something like putty to connect to a linux box, and you setup your SSH keys etc. When connecting, how does it tell the server that you want to connect using your SSH keys? Is SSH running as a service on a particular port or does it simply pass your private-key and then the login service sees that and tries to connect using it? Just looking for a fairly high level understanding (with maybe some detail if you want to...)

I know that I can rip the CD into iTunes and then burn a new CD, but I have two optical drives available, is there a way to simply copy the CD from one drive to the other in one step?

  • Sync folders over FTP

    First an explanation about syncing folders instead of files. The folders in question has images that are not going to be edited and updated with the FTP server, but simply new images added to them. Is there a way to synchronize the presence of the images on both the client on server? The client server is a Windows machine, and while some may suggest using rsync and whatnot, the server is Linux-based but it's a shared webhost so no direct access other than FTP.

  • Can the Intel C600-series SAS controller RAID SATA drives?

    (Sorry if this is off-topic - technically this is a home workstation setting, but is regarding mostly-server technology.) I have a GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI motherboard and four ST3000DM001 drives, and the IRST manager isn't letting me put the drives in a RAID (it lists them, but the option to select the C600-series controller is simply grayed out). Have I done a mistake? Do I need SAS drives to RAID them on the SAS controller?

  • Cannot delete an existing service using sc command: The Specified service does not exist as an installed service

    As shown in the picture below, I want to delete MyNewService, but when I type in sc delete MyNewService I simply can't delete it because there is no such servic, due to "the Specified service does not exist as an installed service" error Any ideas how to solve this problem? Edit: as far as the service panel is concerned, the MyNewService is there all the time; I restarted the pc a few times, and it's there.

  • Can I see the SMTP session log when Mail.app connects to an SMPT server?

    Problem: I've set up a mail server using SASL authentication, and have given Mail.app (on Mac Os 10.4) the login information it needs to connect. I wrote a test message for it to deliver to my server: the Activity window shows that it tries to deliver the message, but then it simply stops, with no indication of error, except that the test message is left in the Outbox. How can I find out what went wrong? Is there some log file I don't know about?

  • Thunderbird 17.0 message filters destroying my emails

    I have been using Thunderbird for years in the following manner (now it's Thunderbird 17.0 on Windows 7): I offload my IMAP emails to my local inbox weekly, then apply hundreds of message filters to said emails in order to move and store them into a few hundred subfolders. It's always worked like a charm - until recently. Now, after I apply the message filters, the emails get moved but they are destroyed in the process - bodies are scrambled up, with bits and pieces of other emails or they are simply blank! How do I fix this?

  • Does Chrome have a quick find shortcut similar to ' in Firefox?

    I absolutely lived on the ' shortcut in Firefox, which allows you to do a find that applies to text links, and it focuses on them so you can hit Enter and proceed to that link. Chrome only has ctrl-f which focuses on links as well, but you have to ESC out and then hit Enter, which is not as immediate as the Firefox shortcut. Is anyone aware of a Chrome shortcut that replicates this functionality? Or is there some hidden shortcut/key that does this in Chrome which I'm simply unaware of?

  • Smss.exe - setting any core affinity breaks rdp on Windows 7 / Windows Server 2012

    I have tried to set core affinity of smss.exe to not run on one critical core on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008r2. It turns out that simply setting the core affinity to anything (even the full mask that smss.exe already has) seems to work but prevents users from rdp'ing into the machine until it is restarted. The users already logged in may continue to use their sessions. This behaviour does not occur on Windows 8/Windows Server 2012. Does anyone know why it is happening?
