• Deploying locally compiled binaries on server

  Hi, I have a Zen based VPS server that runs on a dual-core AMD Opteron 64-bit machine. I have some locally developed C++ based daemons that I would want to deploy in that machine. My local machine is an Intel core 2 duo laptop. Can I execute binaries compiled from source code on my machine directly on the above mentioned server? I am a newbie in this area. Would be great if someone could throw light on the standard practices in this kind of situation. Thanks in advance

• Whats the best to way convert a set of Java objects to another set of objects?

  Basic Java question here from a real newbie. I have a set of Java objects (of class "MyClass") that implement a certain interface (Interface "MyIfc"). I have a set of these objects stored in a private variable in my class that is declared as follows: protected Set<MyClass> stuff = new HashSet<MyClass>(); I need to provide a public method that returns this set as a collection of objects of type "MyIfc". public Collection<MyIfc> getMyStuff() {...} How do I do the conversion? The following line gives me an error that it can't do the conversion. I would have guessed the compiler knew that objects of class MyClass implemented MyIfc and therefore would have handled it. Collection<MyIfc> newstuff = stuff; Any enlightenment is appreciated.

• Rails: Link changes one attribute and then goes back

  Rails newbie here. I have a list of items which can have a status represented by an integer (right now its just 1=active 0=inactive). What I want is next to each item a link to change the status of that item. So it might look like this: A nice item - Enable Another pretty item - Disable I can't think of how to make the link work. I just want a user to click the link and then the page refreshes and the item get updated. This doesn't work: <%= link_to "Enable", :controller => "items", :action => "update", :status => 1 %>

  Hi, ok, I managed to read from xml file using NSXMLParser but now i don't know how to write to xml file. I have a xml file , say <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <root> <user id="abcd" password="pass1"/> <user id="efg" password="pass2"/> </root> Now when a new user enters details, I want to store them in a new tag.. lets say like, the id is "hhhh" and password is"pass3" I want to add a new tag with attributes as such <user id="hhhh" password="pass3"/> to the xml file. How should I do this. Please explain in an elaborate way . I am a newbie here. Any links to tutorials or examples will be much helpful. Thanks

• How to improve the speed of a loop containing a sqlalchemy query statement as conditional

  This loop checks if a record is in the sqlite database and builds a list of dictionaries for those records that are missing and then executes a multiple insert statement with the list. This works but it is very slow (at least i think it is slow) as it takes 5 minutes to loop over 3500 queries. I am a complete newbie in python, sqlite and sqlalchemy so I wonder if there is a faster way of doing this. list_dict = [] session = Session() for data in data_list: if session.query(Class_object).filter(Class_object.column_name_01 == data[2]).filter(Class_object.column_name_00 == an_id).count() == 0: list_dict.append({'column_name_00':a_id, 'column_name_01':data[2]}) conn = engine.connect() conn.execute(prices.insert(),list_dict) conn.close() session.close() edit: I moved session = Session() outside the loop. • TinyMCE is making my code valid, and I want it to stop! (<img> tag wrapped in <p>)

  I have TinyMCE installed on the back end of a site. Some of the html it's accessing isn't totally valid, which I realize is the problem in itself. However, TinyMCE is messing things up by making things valid. I have an <img> with no parents (no <p>, no <div>, etc), and TinyMCE is wrapping the <img> in <p></p>. I'm trying to find a setting that will stop that from happening. Essentially, I want TinyMCE to allow <img> to be it's own element, rather than a child element, if that makes sense. Search did not give me a hint, how can i behave with the following situation: I'd love to have 2 OSGI implementations of the same interface: one is regular, the other should work (be active/present/whatever) on the given time period (f.e for Christmas weeks :)) The main goal is to call the same interface without specifying any flags/properties/without manual switching of ranking. Application should somehow switch implementation for this special period, doing another/regular job before and after :) I'm a newbie, maybe i do not completely understand OSGI concept somewhere, sorry for that of give me a hint or link, sorry for my English. • problem with generating PDF and session_start()

  Hi All, I've been using PDF class produced by R&OS successfully in a number of recent developments. I'd like to use it in a page that performs a database query before generating a PDF (it's basically a summary of the session, so I'm using session_id() as part of the query) All is fine if I run this in Firefox - not fine in IE. I think the loading of session_start() is doing something with headers that's upsetting IE as it appears unable to load the page (comment off session_start and the page loads fine). I'm getting a little concerned as, on further investigation, it appears that R&OS is not supported ... bad newbie learning experience and I really don't want to have to try adopt another class system this late in the day. Have you any thoughts as to what I could try next? Thankx G

• Delphi : What is the best way for passing data between forms?

  It may seem a little newbie, but I really have got problem with it. I have a form (not the main one)for getting many different data form the user and I want to pass it to a manager class for creating an object with these. The problem is that I can't have this class to use the other unit (getting circle uses) and also it doesn't have access to the manager class instance (which is in main form). So, what shall I do?   I have a simple windows application that pops up an input box for users to enter in a date to do searches. How do I identify if the user clicked on the Cancel button, or merely pressed OK without entering any data as both appear to return the same value? I have found some examples of handling this in VB 6 but none of them really function in the .NET world. Ideally I would like to know how to handle the empty OK and the Cancel seperately, but I would be totally ok with just a good way to handle the cancel.

• iPhone app getting XML then refreshing it at intervals...

  I have an app which gets some data from the web via an XML document. I have this working fine and have followed apples SeismicXML example (uses NSURLRequest etc). I am very new to this so I have to admit that I do not totally understand all the code that gets the XML - but it is working. My problem is that my app may be running for some time so I want to be able to refresh the XML every now and again and check to see if it is different. If it is different I need to update my contents. Basically this means my questions are.... Is there a standard way of doing this? I was thinking of creating a timer to call the function which parses the XML but I can't figure out which function to call. If anyone can give me any pointers or even better examples of this it would be fab. Thanks

  Here is the background, I am trying to create a DSL to allow customer write simple scripts to query into our mongodb based database. I choose antlr to implement the DSL. From my understanding (and pls let me know if it's not correct) there are 2 approaches to integrate antlr generated parser into the system: Embed code into the grammar file so that the generated parser could be used directly to make query to the database and return result in a certain format (e.g. json encoded) Keep the parser purely a parser, after feed the DSL file to it, and construct the query in another class by retrieving the AST from generated parser class So antlrers, which one do you think is the way I as an antlr newbie should go? Can you list the pros and cos of each approach, or you have other way to recommend?

• What weird encoding is movistar Venezuela sms on blackberry using?

  Send an sms using the normal GSM TextMessage API on the BlackBerry, get back garbage. It's not unicode, phone is set to 7-bit send. Byte size is only off by one. Is there some default crypto thing, or some weird encoding they use? This code works most everywhere else in the world; this definitely seems like a movistar problem. The string that comes back is random 7-bit ascii except for a few high order bytes. Needless to say the source input text is totally 7 bit chars, which should work in sms, ISO-8859 and look the same in UTF charsets. Anybody seen this or got sms working in code on movistar VZ blackberries?

• Trying to get excel 2003 into already made windows form

  good afternoon everyone :) I got sucha dilemma! (hate being new at stuff!) What my problem is is that I have a project that is in full design mode swing right now. I built it using the Windows form.. Anyways, on one of my forms..that I already started building (very painstakingly).. Minds have changed and now what needs to be on that form is either a full excel 2003 workbook..or at the very least..excel worksheet. The problem is that I have not been using studio 2008 for long..and coding experience shows the same. Can someone please tell me how the heck I can put a worksheet or a workbook on that form without starting my whole project over using office forms?   I am developing a C# VS 2008 website, trying to add a Master file. I created a virtual directory in IIS housing the "Master" folder, containing the Master files. Now how do I reference these files from my website in VS? One problem is I do not know where I need to publish this Master folder to. Other problem is I do not know how to reference this Master file in my aspx Page directive. FYI, this master folder is physically located outside of c:\inetpub\ in a totally separate file location.   Hey guys, I'm trying to allow that standard BB [img] [/img] tags on my WordPress blog. I got this snippet from the net, but it only works on lower case [img] tags. I'd like it to apply to both [img] and [IMG].
