    For the functions here: #include <libkern/OSAtomic.h> there are OSAtomic and OSAtomicBarrier versions. However, the documentation does not show sample code for: When is it safe to use just OSAtomic, without the OSAtomicBarrier version When is it that OSAtomic would be unsafe, but OSAtomiBarrier would be safe. Can anyone provide explainations + sample codes? [Random ramblings of "your opinion" without actual code is useless.   • Linux C++: how to profile time wasted due to cache misses?

    I know that I can use gprof to benchmark my code. However, I have this problem -- I have a smart pointer that has an extra level of indirection (think of it as a proxy object). As a result, I have this extra layer that effects pretty much all functions, and screws with caching. Is there a way to measure the time my CPU wastes due to cache misses? Thanks!

  • How to make selection color be "on top" when background color for any text element is set in Visual

    Faced problem while setting background color for any element in Visual Studio 2010 editor. Selection color doesn't override this background color. So then it's very inconvenient to work with selections in editor. Case when only string literal is selected it's almost impossible to distinguish colors and see what part of string is selected. Is there any possibility to fix the problem by changing some options? Or it's a Visual Studio bug?

    I'm making a thread class to use as a wrapper for pthreads. I have a Queue class to use as a queue, but I'm having trouble with it. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled. Details: Error parsing near 'The server rejected '. actually is not giving me error on localhost, i have uploaded it on 2 other different server on 1 server its working fine but on other server its giving me above error.   • Accessing program information that gdb sees in C++

    I have a program written in C++, on Linux, compiled with -g. When I run it under gdb, I can 1) set breakpoints 2) at those breakpoints, print out variables 3) see the stackframe 4) given a variable that's a structure, print out parts of the structure (i.e. how ddd displays information). Now, given that my program is compiled with "-g" -- is there anyway that I can access this power within my program itself? I.e. given that my program is compiled with "-g", is there some std::vector<string> getStackFrame(); function I can call to get the current stackframe at the current point of execution? Given a pointer to an object and it's type ... can I do std::vector getClassMember(class_name); ? I realize the default answer is "no, C++ doesn't support that level of introspection" -- however, recall I'm on linux, my program is compiled with "-g", and gdb can do it, so clearly the inforamtion is there. Question is: is there some API for accessing it? EDIT: PS Naysers, I'd love to see a reason for closing this question.

    I have: struct DoubleVec { std::vector<double> data; }; DoubleVec operator+(const DoubleVec& lhs, const DoubleVec& rhs) { DoubleVec ans(lhs.size()); for(int i = 0; i < lhs.size(); ++i) { ans[i] = lhs[i]] + rhs[i]; // assume lhs.size() == rhs.size() } return ans; } DoubleVec someFunc(DoubleVec a, DoubleVec b, DoubleVec c, DoubleVec d) { DoubleVec ans = a + b + c + d; } Now, in the above, the "a + b + c + d" will cause the creation of 3 temporary DoubleVec's -- is there a way to optimize this away with some type of template magic ... i.e. to optimize it down to something equivalent to: DoubleVec ans(a.size()); for(int i = 0; i < ans.size(); i++) ans[i] = a[i] + b[i] + c[i] + d[i]; You can assume all DoubleVec's have the same # of elements. The high level idea is to have do some type of templateied magic on "+", which "delays the computation" until the =, at which point it looks into itself, goes hmm ... I'm just adding thes numbers, and syntheizes a[i] + b[i] + c[i] + d[i] ... instead of all the temporaries. Thanks!

    I have got a table which contains 5 column and query requirements: update row no 8 (or id=8) set its column 2, column 3's value from id 9th column 2, column 3 value. means all value of column 2, 3 should be shifted to column 2, 3 of upper row (start from row no 8) and value of last row's 2, 3 will be null For example, with just 3 rows, the first row is untouched, the second to N-1th rows are shifted once, and the Nth row has nulls. id math science sst hindi english 1 11 12 13 14 15 2 21 22 23 24 25 3 31 32 33 34 35 The result of query of id=2 should be: id math science sst hindi english 1 11 12 13 14 15 2 31 32 23 24 25 //value of 3rd row (col 2,3) shifted to row 2 3 null null 33 34 35 This process should run for all rows whose id 2 Please help me to create this update query I am using MS sqlserver 2005

  • c++ volatile multithreading variables

    I'm writing a C++ app. I have a class variable that more than one thread is writing to. In C++, anything that can be modified without the compiler "realizing" that it's being changed needs to be marked volatile right? So if my code is multi threaded, and one thread may write to a var while another reads from it, do I need to mark the var volaltile? [I don't have a race condition since I'm relying on writes to ints being atomic] Thanks!

  • Trace large C++ code base?

    Problem: I have just inherited this 200K LOC source code base. There's only a small part of it I need (and I want to rip all else out). What I would like to do is to be able to: 1) run the program a few times 2) have something (here's where you come in) record which lines of code gets executed 3) then rip out all the irrelevant lines of code I realize this has "problems" in the forms of "different args will take different paths"; but for my needs, it's very specific, and I just want something ot get me started on the right line of for ripping stuff out (I'll fine tune those special cases later).     iam using GET command to get the content of a page.When i write the same command on shell prompt it gives correct result but when i use that in PHP file then sometimes its giving correct result but sometimes it gives only half of the content i.e. end-half portion only. Iam using following command in shell script :- GET http://www.abc.com/ -H "Referer:http://www.abcd.com/" and following in PHP file :- $data=exec('GET http://www.abc.com/ -H "Referer:http://www.abcd.com/"'); echo $data; Now please tell why this command is not giving full content of the page when im using it in php file.

My GUI application can provide functions like: get_input_from_screen(); and write_this_crap_out_to_screen(); and more functions I can write as necessary I also know how to embed a lua interpreter in my C++ code (short tutorial on the web) What I don't know .. is how to connect the input/output of a lua interpreter with my GUI stuff.     i need to update client on any changes occurred on server. for that i found 2 approach. 1. using ajax which is also known as reverse ajax for this purpose. 2. using COMET. but i don't know exact difference in both. my site contains news content and i want that news to be automatically updates when new news is entered by my CMS application. i have got hundreds of concurrent users on my web application. please suggest me which approach should i use to get best solution. also please provide me good example's like for that so that i can implement it. NOTE: i am using .net framework 2.0 but if its not possible in 2.0 then can also move to 3.5 Thanks.

    I have a file that is having some multiple dynamic parameters.I want to send these parameters at the time of writing a file in main cron file. Something like this - */15 * * * * /usr/bin/php /a/b/c.php parameter1 parameter2 parameter3 parameter4 Now i tried working this up but my file is not executing. What im concerned about is that how will my php file will fetch these parameters ?? And how will i write this command when there is only 2 parameters to be passes parameter1 and parameter4??? and how will my cron and php will recognoze that which parameter is for which data and all?? please advice!!

  • how to diffrentiate between same field names of two tables in a select query??

    i have more than two tables in my database and all of them contains same field names like table A table B table C field1 field1 field1 field2 field2 field2 field3 field3 field3 . . . . . . . . . . . . I have to write a SELECT query which gets almost all same fields from these 3 tables.Iam using something like this :- select a.field1,a.field2,a.field3,b.field1,b.field2,b.field3,c.field1,c.field2,c.field3 from table A as a, table B as b,table C as c where so and so. but when i print field1's value it gives me the last table values. How can i get all the values of three tables with the same field names??? do i have to write individual query for every table OR there is any ways of fetching them all in a single query????
