  • How to connect 2 routers (Asmax and D-link) RJ11 vs RJ45 issue

    I just bought a new router, D-link DSL 2641B and want to connect it to another one, provided by my ISP, Asmax AR 804MP. Previously, I had Linksys WRT350N, and there was no problem, while I had Ethernet cable plugged in to one of LAN ports in Asmax and INTERNET(RJ45) port in Linksys, connection used PPPoE protocol -- worked OK. D-link has DSL(RJ11) port (which I don't want to use as Asmax replacement, while there is a separate Ethernet cable with a TV plugged to Asmax, which I don't want to configure from scratch on D-link). How should I connect my new D-link to work with Asmax? Via DSL port? Via one of the LAN ports (in which case I probably should change the purpose of this port in the config, I guess?). I tried connecting D-link both ways: LAN(ASMAX) to LAN(DLINK) LAN(ASMAX) to DSL(DLINK) (using RJ11 - RJ45 cable) I hope there is some setting in the DLINK's config that I overlooked. I haven't tried to see what's in ASMAX's config, but I guess I don't need to change anything there, while Linksys worked just fine? The only difference I see, is that D-link has RJ11 DSL port as WAN, and Linksys has RJ45 (called by them INTERNET) as a main WAN port.

    Howdy, Anyone with experience on using both control panels can tell me which one is better suited to run on a windows shared hosting account? I have the option of choosing one of them for my shared hosting account. The web hosting guys (MochaHost) say that DotNetPanel (DNP) is better than Plesk (more features, newer architecture, faster), but looking at the DNP interface I honestly can't say that I agree with them. The big advantage of DNP over Plesk for me is the fact that I can only run .Net 4.0 using DNP (Plesk doesn't support .Net 4.0 yet, as the tech support told me). Thanks

I opened it, had it run as me with the "restricted access" unchecked, then ran the above. The file in question has the following ACLs: Administrators, SYSTEM, and OurCompanyUsers. All three have full control of everything. Nobody has any Deny bits set. I am a member of Administrators. So I don't believe it's a permissions issue. It's not a USB drive, so this time there is no question of USB hardware. Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2. What does this mean? Is this more likely a hardware or software problem?

  • Using SharePoint user profiles to build a company phone directory

    I'm working on a Sharepoint 2007 (MOSS Std) intranet implementation right now, and one of the things we'd like to do is replace the manually-maintained phone directory with the profile information we're importing from AD. People search is great, but I want to have a big page with all the names and phone numbers of the 150 or so people that work at the company (which means using the People Search webpart with a query hard-coded to return everyone won't work). A few quick searches haven't turned up anything, but this seems like a really common request. Can anyone help me out? I'm not opposed to buying a reasonably-priced webpart to solve this or writing some custom code, but both seem like they shouldn't be required for such a simple request.

  • usb vs firewire for connecting two RAID 0 disks

    I have a 2TB and a 4TB RAID 0 external drives (both have two physical hard drives in them). Both have a FW800, FW400, and USB port. My MacBook Pro has one FW800 port and two USB ports. I want to copy data from the 4TB drive to the 2TB drive. Is it better to A - connect both directly to the laptop, one with USB and one with FW800 or B - connect the 4TB drive to laptop with FW800 and the 2TB drive to the 4TB drive using a FW400 cable? Anyone have problems daisy-chaining RAID 0 disks using FW? Thanks!

    Hi all, I'm in the beginning stages of migrating from an internal exchange server (2003) to external hosted services. We don't have a huge user base, less than 100, but we need to support BlackBerries, iPhones, Outlook RPC/HTTP, etc. I really like exchange hosted providers (I've used intermedia in the past) but pricing is a bit high. Does anyone have any experience with Kerio? It looks great, but I'd like to hear some unbiased opinions. Or biased if you are really happy working for a particular hosting company ;-)

  • Java/BlackBerry build error overriding too many classes

    Hey everyone, Has anyone ever heard of overriding too many classes in Java? Perhaps this issue is just related to BlackBerry development, but I was wondering if it is an issue in Java, too. Let's say I have the following: LabelField lblTitle = new LabelField(title) { protected void paint(Graphics graphics) { graphics.setColor(0x00FFFFFF); graphics.clear(); super.paint(graphics); } }; LabelField lblSubTitle = new LabelField(releaseYear + ", " + rating) { protected void paint(Graphics graphics) { graphics.setColor(0x00FFFFFF); graphics.clear(); super.paint(graphics); } }; This code works. However, I've noticed that by overriding the paint() method multiple times in many different classes throughout my project, I receive the error: I/O Error: Cannot run program "jar": CreateProcess error=2, The system cannot find the file specified My only solution thus far is to clean up my GUI code...minimize it and reuse it. Perhaps its good that this happened so I can be less careless about creating GUI code all over my classes. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this before.   • SAS Expanders vs Direct Attached (SAS)?

    I have a storage unit with 2 backplanes. One backplane holds 24 disks, one backplane holds 12 disks. Each backplane is independently connected to a SFF-8087 port (4 channel/12Gbit) to the raid card. Here is where my question really comes in. Can or how easily can a backplane be overloaded? All the disks in the machine are WD RE4 WD1003FBYX (black) drives that have average writes at 115MB/sec and average read of 125 MB/sec I know things would vary based on the raid or filesystem we put on top of that but it seems to be that a 24 disk backplane with only one SFF-8087 connector should be able to overload the bus to a point that might actually slow it down? Based on my math, if I had a RAID0 across all 24 disks and asked for a large file, I should, in theory should get 24*115 MB/sec wich translates to 22.08 GBit/sec of total throughput. Either I'm confused or this backplane is horribly designed, at least in a perfomance environment. I'm looking at switching to a model where each drive has it's own channel from the backplane (and new HBA's or raid card). EDIT: more details We have used both pure linux (centos), open solaris, software raid, hardware raid, EXT3/4, ZFS.   • Upgraded from VS 2008 -> VS 2010. Can't Connect to SQL Server in Staging Environment

    I have a test application written in C#/ASP.NET that I've developed using Visual Studio 2008 Professional/.NET 3.5 which connects to a local SQL Server 2008 Express instance. I upgraded the development machine to Visual Studio 2010 Professional maintaining .NET 3.5 and everything in the development environment continues to work correctly. Upon deployment of the new app to an internal staging machine, that app cannot connect to its local SQL Server 2008 Express database. I get the customary "server not found" error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible... Does something need to be upgraded on the staging machine to be able to host a Visual Studio 2010/.NET 3.5 application?

    I'm in the process of purchasing a Netbook for use while traveling. The included OS is XP, however, I would like to upgrade(?) to Windows 7. My question: Does a Windows Upgrade have the same physical footprint and performance as a full install? Does an upgrade leave behind non used files/resources that were originally included in XP? If so, are there ways to reduce this? I'm trying to reduce as much OS bloat as possible. Please let me know if my question is unclear. Thanks.     I currently use 1and1 as my domain registrar but am considering using another company in order to get a 10 year registration. I've noticed a couple of companys are charging for privacy, but Ive done it myself with my domain via the Nominet website. Is there a difference? The only one I can see is that my name is listed in the WHOIS information, whereas with these ID protect services my name is withheld.

  • Write a compiler for a language that looks ahead and multiple files?

    In my language I can use a class variable in my method when the definition appears below the method. It can also call methods below my method and etc. There are no 'headers'. Take this C# example. class A { public void callMethods() { print(); B b; b.notYetSeen(); public void print() { Console.Write("v = {0}", v); } int v=9; } class B { public void notYetSeen() { Console.Write("notYetSeen()\n"); } } How should I compile that? what i was thinking is: pass1: convert everything to an AST pass2: go through all classes and build a list of define classes/variable/etc pass3: go through code and check if there's any errors such as undefined variable, wrong use etc and create my output But it seems like for this to work I have to do pass 1 and 2 for ALL files before doing pass3. Also it feels like a lot of work to do until I find a syntax error (other than the obvious that can be done at parse time such as forgetting to close a brace or writing 0xLETTERS instead of a hex value). My gut says there is some other way. Note: I am using bison/flex to generate my compiler.

I am currently undecided between buying a JBOD case and installing OpenSolaris (because of ZFS), or purchasing a Nexenta license. The difference is about $ 12.500 for licenses over three years. What would you see as the main advantage in purchasing a nexenta license, beside the support? Did nexenta really enhance the basic OpenSolaris, or is it just a lot of marketing speak? No one really wanted to answer that question.

    I'm having trouble authenticating services using uid for authentication, which I thought was the standard method for authentication on the user. So basically, my users are added in ldap like this: # jsmith, Users, example.com dn: uid=jsmith,ou=Users,dc=example,dc=com uidNumber: 10003 loginShell: /bin/bash sn: Smith mail: [email protected] homeDirectory: /home/jsmith displayName: John Smith givenName: John uid: jsmith gecos: John Smith gidNumber: 10000 cn: John Smith title: System Administrator But when I try to authenticate using typical webapps or services like this: jsmith password I get: ldapsearch -x -h ldap.example.com -D "cn=jsmith,ou=Users,dc=example,dc=com" -W -b "dc=example,dc=com" Enter LDAP Password: ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49) But if I use: ldapsearch -x -h ldap.example.com -D "uid=jsmith,ou=Users,dc=example,dc=com" -W -b "dc=example,dc=com" It works. HOWEVER...most webapps and authentication methods seem to use another method. So on a webapp I'm using, unless I specify the user as: uid=smith,ou=users,dc=example,dc=com Nothing works. In the webapp I just need users to put: jsmith in the user field. Keep in mind my ldap is using the "new" cn=config method of storing settings. So if someone has an obvious ldif I'm missing please provide. Let me know if you need further info. This is openldap on ubuntu 12.04. Thanks, Dave

    I recently installed Snow Leopard Server and am trying to get the most out of the services it offers, but one thing that currently seems pretty barebones is the Wiki it provides. Can Snow Leopard Servers wiki be modified with plugins the way MediaWiki can? Are there any good plugins to allow you to include templates like MediaWiki? Is there any way to include embeded syntax highlighted example code? Is there even a good name to refer to it as when searching for it? "Snow Leopard Wiki" just turns up a bunch of wikis about SL. Alternatively, how hard is it to install MediaWiki(or some other more advanced wiki engine) on SL Server? Could you plug it in to the same authentication mechanism?

  • Virtualized CPU cores vs. threads

    We've got a KVM host system on Ubuntu 9.10 with a newer Quad-core Xeon CPU with hyperthreading. As detailed on Intel's product page, the processor has 4 cores but 8 threads. /proc/cpuinfo and htop both list 8 processors, though each one states 4 cores in cpuinfo. KVM/QEMU also reports 8 VCPUs available to assign to guests. My question is when I'm allocating VCPUs to VM guests, should I allocate per-core or per-thread? Since KVM/QEMU reports the server has 8 VCPUs to allocate, should I go ahead and set a guest to use 4 CPUs where I previously would have set it to use 2 (assuming 4 total VCPUs available)? I'd like to get the most possible out of the host hardware without over-allocating.

I have to build a OpenCV project which was made in VS2005 by one of my colleagues into VS2008. The project is for blob detection. Following is what he has to say in readme : Steps to use the library (using MSVC++ sp 5): 1 - open the project of the library and build it 2 - in the project where the library should be used, add: 2.1 In "Project/Settings/C++/Preprocessor/Additional Include directories" add the directory where the blob library is stored 2.2 In "Project/Settings/Link/Input/Additional library path" add the directory where the blob library is stored and in "Object/Library modules" add the cvblobslib.lib file 3- Include the file "BlobResult.h" where you want to use blob variables. 4- To see an example on using the blob library, see the file example.txt inside the zip file. NOTE: Verify that in the project where the cvblobslib.lib is used, the MFC Runtime Libraries are not mixed: Check in "Project-Settings-C/C++-Code Generation-Use run-time library" of your project and set it to Debug Multithreaded DLL (debug version ) or to Multithreaded DLL ( release version ). 2 Check in "Project-Settings-General" how it uses the MFC. It should be "Use MFC in a shared DLL". NOTE: The library can be compiled and used in .NET using this steps, but the menu options may differ a little NOTE2: In the .NET version, the character sets must be equal in the .lib and in the project.
