  • How to determine, upon launch, whether the app crashed the last time it quit?

    - by enchilada
One of the crash reporter frameworks I've found does it like this: If there exist crash reports in the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter folder for the app, it determines that a crash occurred before. Then it allows the user to send the developer the crash log. And the finally, it deletes those logs. It is this deletion that is bothering me. It's not acceptable to me. Maybe the user wants to look at those logs later. It is simply rude to the user to just delete his crash logs. So I'm looking for a better way to determine the crash. It doesn't really work to store the last read crash logs in the user defaults or the user data, because that would mean that if the user deletes the data and defaults (which he has a right to do whenever he or she wishes), and then launches the app, it will be detected as crashed the last time it was quit. So this doesn't work. Any ideas?

  • shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation not working for detail view

    - by TheLearner
I am using Xcode's SplitView template as the base for my project and I only want to accept Landscape mode. I have implemented the method in the RootViewController and DetailViewController: - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { switch (interfaceOrientation) { case UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft: return YES; } return NO; } However what happens is the app loads with in Landscape mode with the tableview on the left but the detail view is black / blank. How do I get the detailview to load properly and do I need to implement this method is all view controllers or just the root one?

  • NSPredicate aggregate function [SIZE] gives 'unsupported function expression' error

    - by jinglesthula
iOS 4: I have entities in Core Data (using SQLite, which is a requirement) of: Request Response (which has a property personId) Revision Relationships are: Request <-- Revision Request <-- Response Revision <-- Response (e.g. each request may have many responses; each request/response pair may have many revisions) I'm trying to do a predicate to get all Responses with a given personId that have zero Revisions. Using: (personId == %d) && (Request.Revision[SIZE] == 0) in my predicate string gives me a runtime exception "Unsupported function expression Request.Revision[SIZE]" The documentation seems pretty sparse on aggregate functions, only noting that they exist, but with no syntax or examples. Not sure if it's my syntax or if the SIZE function really isn't supported in iOS.

  • Kepping object in memory (iPhone SDK)

    - by Chris
    I am trying to create a UIImageView called theImageView in the touchesBegan method that I can then then move to a new location in touchesMoved. Currently I am receiving an "undeclared" error in touchesMoved where I set the new location for theImageView. What can I do to keep theImageView in memory between these two methods? - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { ... UIImageView *theImageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"image.png"]]; theImageView.frame = CGRectMake(263, 228, 193, 300); [theImageView retain]; ... } - (void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { ... theImageView.frame = CGRectMake(300, 300, 193, 300); ... }

  • What is the most efficient way to use Core Data?

    - by Eric
I'm developing an iPad application using Core Data, and was hoping someone could clarify something about Core Data. Right now, I populate my table by making a fetch request for all of my data in viewDidLoad. I'd rather make individual fetch requests in my tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath:. Can anyone tell me which is more efficient, and why? In other words, is it much less efficient to make lots of small requests as opposed to one big request?

  • How to show/hide UIImageView when I want.

    - by Madness64
    I'm having a little problem with an iPhone app I'm currently developing. When the user touch a button, it calls an IBAction named refreshQuestion, which is supposed to show an image hover the screen to ask the user to wait a moment, then it has to call another function, and finally it has to hide the image. The problem is that the image won't appear. As well as the network activity indicator. Any help? Here is the code : - (IBAction)refreshQuestion:(id)sender{ pleaseWait.hidden = NO; [UIApplication sharedApplication].networkActivityIndicatorVisible = YES; [self loadData]; pleaseWait.hidden = YES; [UIApplication sharedApplication].networkActivityIndicatorVisible = NO; }

  • How to perform a cell deselection when a user returns to a table view?

    - by Panagiotis Korros
I am using a UITableView to display a list of cells, when the user selects a cell then a new view appears by using the following code: - (void) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { [self.navigationController pushViewController: detailsViewController animated: TRUE]; } By using the code above, the view is displayed correctly, but when I return back to the root table view, then the cell is still selected. I noticed, in many sdk examples, that the cell is deselected (with a nice animation) when the root view is poped pack, but I could not find the code that implemented this feature in any of the examples. I know that I can use: [tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated: YES]; to implement this, but I am very curious on how these examples do it without using any code. Any ideas?

  • Help adding a backgroundView to UITableViewCell

    - by Alex
I'm getting really desperate trying to add a UIImageView to UITableViewCell.backgroundView. All my efforts have resulted in this crappy rendering: It looks like the cell's label's white background is sitting on top of cell's background and covering portions of it. I tried setting the label's background color to clear, or some other color and it does not have any event. It is always white. The reason I know it's the text label's background causing this white area is that if I don't do [cell setText:@"Cell text here"]; the white area is gone and I see just the cell's background image. Here's the code that I'm using. The table view is added in the .xib file and UITableView is added to UIViewController: - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { return 1; } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { return [myCollection.items count]; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSUInteger rowIndex = indexPath.row; static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; cell.backgroundView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"darkCellBackground.png"]]; cell.selectedBackgroundView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"darkCellBackground.png"]]; } [cell setText:@"Cell text here"]; return cell; } - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { // Navigation logic may go here. Create and push another view controller. // AnotherViewController *anotherViewController = [[AnotherViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"AnotherView" bundle:nil]; // [self.navigationController pushViewController:anotherViewController]; // [anotherViewController release]; [tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated:YES]; } - (BOOL)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView canEditRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { return NO; } I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but cant quite figure out what.

  • can I store an id value in array of float type ?

    - by srikanth rongali
I used, for(id value in values) to get the value from an NSArray. Now I want to store it in 2 dimensional float array[][]. When I try to assign the values to array it is giving error:incompatible types in assignment. I tried to cast the value but I got error: pointer value used where a floating point value was expected. I need to store the values in an 2 dimensional array . How can I make it ? Thank You. @implementation fromFileRead1 NSString *fileNameString; int numberOfEnemies, numberOfValues; -(id)init { if( (self = [super init]) ) { NSString *path = @"/Users/sridhar/Desktop/Projects/exampleOnFile2/enemyDetals.txt"; NSString *contentsOfFile = [[NSString alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:path]; NSArray *lines = [contentsOfFile componentsSeparatedByString:@"\n"]; numberOfEnemies = [lines count]; NSLog(@"The number of Lines: %d", numberOfEnemies); for (id line in lines) { NSLog(@"Line %@", line ); NSString *string1 = line; NSArray *split1 = [string1 componentsSeparatedByString:@","]; numberOfValues = [split1 count]; NSLog(@"The number of values in Row: %d", numberOfValues); for (id value in split1) { NSLog(@"value %@", value); float value1; value1 = [split1 objectAtIndex:2]); NSLog(@"VAlue of Value1 at index 2: %f", value1 ); } } } return self; } @end In enemyDetal.txt I have 1,3,3 2,3,2.8 10,2,1.6

  • What's safe to assume about the NSMutableArray / NSArray class cluster?

    - by andyvn22
I know you shouldn't use this to decide whether or not to change an array: if ([possiblyMutable isKindOfClass:[NSMutableArray class]]) But say I'm writing a method and need to return either an NSMutableArray or an NSArray, depending on the mutability of possiblyMutable. The class using my method already knows whether or not it's acceptable to change the returned array. Whether or not it's acceptable to change the returned array directly correlates with whether or not it's acceptable to change possiblyMutable. In that specific case, is this code safe? It seems to me that if it's not acceptable to change the array, but we accidentally get a mutable array, it's ok, because the class using my method won't try to change it. And if it is acceptable to change the array, then we will always get possiblyMutable as an NSMutableArray (though this is the part I'm not entirely clear on). So... safe or not? Alternatives?

  • how can I store the current status of the game in cocos2d ?

    - by srikanth rongali
I am writing a shooting game in cocos2d. And each enemy enters the screen after the current one is dead. I have stores the enemies and their properties in plist. I need to save the current state of the game. If any phone call comes the game should be started from the current state. So, I usedNsUserDefaults in this way, - (void) applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication*)application { ... NSUserDefaults *myDefaultOptions = [[myDefaultOptions stringForKey:@"enemyNumber"]intValue] ; //tempCount4 is the current Enemy number. It was declared in another class. I am using extern and using the value here. tempCount4 = [[myDefaultOptions stringForKey:@"enemyNumber"]intValue] ; } - (void)applicationWillTerminate:(UIApplication *)application { [[CCDirector sharedDirector] end]; [myDefaultOptions setObject:tempCount4 forKey:@"enemyNumber"]; } The control is not entering in to the (void)applicationWillTerminate:(UIApplication *)application when I pressed the Home button. And when I touched the game icon on the screen the game is running from first screen and in log (terminal )it is not showing any values. And what should I store to resume my game from stored state. Can you explain where I was wrong ? Thank You.

  • UIButton does not respond to touch events after changing its position using setFrame

    - by Pranathi
    I have a view controller class (child) which extends from view controller class (parent). In the parent class's loadView() method I create a sub-view (named myButtonView) with two buttons (buttons are horizontally laid out in the subview) and add it to the main view. In the subclass I need to shift these two buttons up by 50pixels. So, I am shifting the buttonView by calling the setFrame method. This makes the buttons shift and render properly but they do not respond to touch events after this. Buttons work properly in the views of Parent class type. In the child class type view also, if I comment out the setFrame() call the buttons work properly. How can I shift the buttons and still make them respond to touch events? Any help is appreciated. Following is snippets of the code. In the parent class: - (void)loadView { // Some code... CGRect buttonFrameRect = CGRectMake(0,yOffset+1,screenRect.size.width,KButtonViewHeight); myButtonView = [[UIView alloc]initWithFrame:buttonFrameRect]; myButtonView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [self.view addSubview:myButtonView]; // some code... CGRect nxtButtonRect = CGRectMake(screenRect.size.width - 110, 5, 100, 40); myNxtButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom]; [myNxtButton setTitle:@"Submit" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; myNxtButton.frame = nxtButtonRect; myNxtButton.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [myNxtButton addTarget:self action:@selector(nextButtonPressed:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [myButtonView addSubview:myNxtButton]; CGRect backButtonRect = CGRectMake(10, 5, 100, 40); myBackButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom]; [myBackButton setTitle:@"Back" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; myBackButton.frame = backButtonRect; myBackButton.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [myBackButton addTarget:self action:@selector(backButtonPressed:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [myButtonView addSubview:myBackButton]; // Some code... } In the child class: - (void)loadView { [super loadView]; //Some code .. CGRect buttonViewRect = myButtonView.frame; buttonViewRect.origin.y = yOffset; // This is basically original yOffset + 50 [myButtonView setFrame:buttonViewRect]; yOffset += KButtonViewHeight; // Add some other view below myButtonView .. }

  • How to take a NSString such as, "0+1+2", get the sum of those and create new string. Obj-C

    - by Ace Legend
Alright. My app has a text field and next to it are two buttons (Plus button and Equals button). When you press the "Plus" button, it takes the text inside of the textField and adds a "+" to it. Code below: - (IBAction)plusButtonPressed:(id)sender { NSString *plusString = @"+"; NSString *inputString = carbsField.text; NSString *outputString = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%@",inputString,plusString]; NSLog(@"%@",outputString); [carbsField setText:outputString]; } I will eventually make that more intelligent so that I can't put two pluses or whatever. Anyway, then I want the equal button to take whatever is in the textField, which should look something like: "23+54+2.2" and get the sum of those values. I believe I know how to take an Integer and make it a String, but I want to verify it: int *value = 56; NSString *string = @"%d",value; Well, if anyone can show me how to do this, I would be very appreciative. Thanks. EDIT At the moment, I have not tried anything. This is because I do not know where to start. I have an idea of what to do, but I do not know how to execute it. I believe I need to get all characters before a "+" convert them into int and then get the sum of some array of those values.

  • I have an Xcode static library project, how do I add a test target to it so I can run it there? (Ins

    - by zekel
I want to be able to test library code in the library target so I don't have to switch over to a separate project to run it. I see how to add a target, but I'm not sure how to set it up to run like the "Command Line Tool" project template does. I tried adding a new "Shell Tool" target, but I don't know how to make it run like one. What build settings do I have to add to that target? What files (main.m?) do I need to start it up?

  • iPhone animation with stretchable image

    - by ryyst
I got a UIView subclass that draws a UIImage as its background. The image is created using the stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:topCapHeight: method, it has round edges. I also use an animation block inside of which I resize my view. I had hoped that during animation, the drawRect:method would get called sometimes, which would result in the background image getting drawn correctly. Unfortunately, the animation seems to render the image and then just rescale it during the animation, which obviously makes the formerly round edges getting nastily stretched. The only workaround I can imagine is put three separate UIImageViews (top cap, middle fill, bottom cap) above my original background image and then reposition the caps images and scaling the fill image. However, this seems quite complicated... Is there any better way I can prevent this from happening?

  • Using an objects date (without time) for a table header instead of an objects date and time (iphone)

    - by billywilliamton
I've been working on an iphone project and have run into an issue. Currently In the table view where it displays all the objects, I use headers based on the objects datePerformed field. The only problem is that my code apparently creates a header that contains both the date and time resulting in objects not being grouped solely by their date as I intended, but rather based on their date and time. I'm not sure if it matters, but when an object is created I use a date picker to pick the date, but not the time. I was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions or advice. Here is the code where i set up the fetchedResultsController - (NSFetchedResultsController *)fetchedResultsController { if (fetchedResultsController != nil) { return fetchedResultsController; } // Create and configure a fetch request with the Exercise entity. NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Exercise" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [fetchRequest setEntity:entity]; // Create the sort descriptors array using date and name NSSortDescriptor *dateDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"datePerformed" ascending:NO]; NSSortDescriptor *nameDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"name" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:dateDescriptor, nameDescriptor, nil]; [fetchRequest setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; // Create and initialize the fetch results controller NSFetchedResultsController *aFetchedResultsController = [[NSFetchedResultsController alloc] initWithFetchRequest:fetchRequest managedObjectContext:managedObjectContext sectionNameKeyPath:@"datePerformed" cacheName:@"Root"]; self.fetchedResultsController = aFetchedResultsController; fetchedResultsController.delegate = self; // Memory management calls [aFetchedResultsController release]; [fetchRequest release]; [dateDescriptor release]; [nameDescriptor release]; [sortDescriptors release]; return fetchedResultsController; } Here's where I set up the table header properties - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { // Display the exercise' date as section headings. return [[[fetchedResultsController sections] objectAtIndex:section] name]; } Any suggestions welcome. Thanks for your time. -Billy Williamton

  • How to use NSWindowDidExposeNotification

    - by Jeena
Hi, I am trying to update another windows when the one becomes visible. So I found the NSWindowDidExposeNotification and tried to work with it, so I wrote in my awakeFromNib: // MyClass.m - (void)awakeFromNib { NSNotificationCenter *nc = [NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter]; [nc addObserver:self selector:@selector(mentionsWindowDidExpose:) name:NSWindowDidExposeNotification object:nil]; } and implemented the method // MyClass.h - (void)mentionsWindowDidExpose:(id)sender; // MyClass.m - (void)mentionsWindowDidExpose:(id)sender { NSLog(@"test"); } But it never gets called which is odd. What do I do wrong here?

  • How to drag only one image with SDK Iphone

    - by loka
Hi! I want to create a little app that takes two images and i want to make only the image over draggable. After research, i found this solution : -(void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [[ event allTouches] anyObject]; image.alpha = 0.7; if([touch view] == image){ CGPoint location = [touch locationInView:self.view]; image.center = location; } It works but the problem is that the image is draggable from its center and i don't want that. So i found another solution : - (void) touchesBegan:(NSSet*)touches withEvent:(UIEvent*)event { // Retrieve the touch point CGPoint pt = [[touches anyObject] locationInView:self.view]; startLocation = pt; [[self view] bringSubviewToFront:self.view]; } - (void) touchesMoved:(NSSet*)touches withEvent:(UIEvent*)event { // Move relative to the original touch point CGPoint pt = [[touches anyObject] locationInView:self.view]; frame = [self.view frame]; frame.origin.x += pt.x - startLocation.x; frame.origin.y += pt.y - startLocation.y; [self.view setFrame:frame]; } It works very well but when i add another image, all the images of the view are draggable at the same time.I'm a beginner with the iphone programmation and i have no idea of how i can only make the image over draggable. Thank you in advance for your help!!

  • Not found in protocol

    - by Alex
I've subclassed MKAnnotation so that i can assign objects to annotations and then assign this object to a view controller like so: - (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView annotationView:(MKAnnotationView *)view calloutAccessoryControlTapped:(UIControl *)control { PlaceDetailView *detailView = [[PlaceDetailView alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; detailView.place = [view.annotation place]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:detailView animated:YES]; [detailView release]; } This is working great but i'm having the following issues: If i try and access the place getter method like so view.annotation.place i recieve an error: Accessing unknown place getter method If i acces the place getter method like so [view.annotation place] i receive a warning: place not found in protocol From my understanding this is because the place object is not defined in the MKAnnotation protocol, although i'm aware of this i'm not sure how to tell the complier that place does exist and it's not calling it blind.

  • UILabel with custom font displays *wrong* custom font

    - by winsmith
I'm using this method to embed custom fonts in my iPhone app. The embedding works: When I run the following code, the fonts are listed. (Currently, I'm embedding all family members of Myriad Pro in OTF format) for( NSString *familyName in [UIFont familyNames] ){ for( NSString *fntName in [UIFont fontNamesForFamilyName:familyName] ){ NSLog(@"%@", fntName); }} When I try to set the font of a label to MyriadPro or MyriadPro-Bold, this works just as expected. However, when I set the font to MyriadPro-BoldCond, the label is still set in MyriadPro-Bold instead of the condensed version. (The font names are correct, I checked.) My Code: [recommendationLabel setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:@"MyriadPro-BoldCond" size:140]]; recommendationLabel.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth = YES; What's the deal?

  • Having a UITextField in a UITableViewCell

    - by Mathieu
Hi! I'm trying to do that for a couple of days now, and after reading tons of messages of people trying to do that too, I'm still unable to have a fully working UITextField in some of my UITableViewCells, just like in this example: http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/4858/picture4za3.png Either I have the form working but the text is not visible (although I set its color to blue), the keyboard goes on the field when I click on it and I haven't been able to correctly implement the keyboard events. I tried with a bunch of examples from Apple (mainly UICatalog, where there is a kinda similar control) but it's still not working correctly. Can somebody help me (and all the people trying to realize this control) and post a simple implementation of a UITextField in a UITableViewCell, that works fine? Thank you very much.
