• that, self or me — which one to prefer in JavaScript?

  While coding JavaScript sometimes you store the reference of object this in a local variable for different purposes (to set proper scope, to help code obfuscators, etc.). There are coders who prefer aliasing this to that to make it obvious its intention. Other guys use self since it's pointing to the object itself. I even saw source codes where me held the reference and it still makes sense. Certainly there are other ones. Which one should I prefer? Is there a convention on which to use or is it only the matter of taste.

• Django: ordering numerical value with order_by

  I'm in a situation where I must output a quite large list of objects by a CharField used to store street addresses. My problem is, that obviously the data is ordered by ASCII codes since it's a Charfield, with the predictable results .. it sort the numbers like this; 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 2, 20, 21.... Now the obvious step would be to change the Charfield the proper field type (IntegerField let's say), however it cannot work since some address might have apartments .. like "128A". I really don't know how I can order this properly ..

  Hi, I have a class and got a method that doin so many things in memory and need to be disposed when its jobs done.But i have looked for MSDN for solution.There is an example thats not solved my problem.When my Class is instanced and run this method my memory is getting bigger and bigger.How can i Dispose it when its job done ? • How to check the compatibility between my program and the .net framework versions?

  Hi all I am writing a program which is targeted to run on .net framework 2.0. I have chosen 2.0 in my VS project. It runs fine on my machine (mine has 2.0 SP2), so there is no compile error. but when I tried to run it on another machine (only with 2.0, no sp), it cannot run. I am aware that I used some method which is supported by 2.0 but only with 2.0 SP2. .net framework 2.0 SP2 seems not being listed in VS IDE, that's why VS cannot give me any warning when I compiled it on my machine. How can I easily check the compatibility of my codes with .net framework 2.0 SP2? or I just have to look at msdn to check every method I have used??? thanks

• Can I have multiple instance of the mandlebrot example in one program?

  Basically what I did is I took the Mandlebrot example and have 3 instances of it in my program. So the program would look like a mainwindow that has 3 mandlebrot widgets in it, one besides the other. Is it possible that GDB doesnt support debugging multiple intances of a classe that derives from qthread or is it thread-unsafe to do so? I don't have any problems at run-time but when I put breakpoints in a function called by the QThread run() function I get a segmentation fault. I can clearly see that the function doesn't complete before returning to the breakpoint ie I the program stops at the breakpoint, I step into the lines of codes one by one but after a couple of instructions another thread startS using the function(even though they are different instances).

• Can git switch branch without the modification

  I have a project which have completed the basic models(at master), then I commit them. Then I create two branchs user and product using: git checkout -b user git checkout -b product git checkout user Then I add the codes in the user branch, but I found that I have to make some changes for the basic models. Then I switch to master: git checkout master But I found that the modification I made in the user branch is visible in the working directory now. How to avoid this? Since the change to master and modification will be frequency.

• FKs on all tables for status colunm

  I have a colunm "Status" in every table in my DB. The purpose of it is to show if the given row is in use or if it has been deactivated. So values can be (0=deactive and 1= active). Two ways I see this: I can have enums or I am thinking if it is better to keep this colunm as a FK which references the main system data dictionary table which has all the codes used on the system. (website) The benefit is every table, every row can then be centralized through this FK. So if i ever want to check all rows which are deactive on my system i can from this table as all th child tables will have like status = ID 233, where 233 = deactive in the data dictionary table. Any benefit or should i stick with the old way of enums?. Also I am thinking if i need one more status for deleted or is that same as deactivated?

I want to stop resend of my email/voice recording. I am C# develop, one of my client asked me this question. I asked him to introduce verification codes, so that nobody will be able to listen the voice but still emails would be sent to millions of poeple. Any workaround for this problem?

• Return cell reference as result of if statement with vlookups.

  I have two sets of data in excel. One contains a set of data which represents the initial step of a process. The other set of data represents the additional steps which take place after the first step is completed. Each of the data records in the "additional step data" has an id in a column. I need to find the identifying codes of the "additional step data" which correspond with the initial step data records. The problem is that I have to match the data in 4 columns between the two data sets and return the id of the "additional step data". I started by doing a combination of an if and vlookup functions, but I got stuck when I tried to figure out how to get the if statement to reference the id of the matching "additional step data". Basically I am trying to avoid having to search by manually filtering between two sets of data and finding corresponding records. Does anyone have any idea about how to do this?

  Hi, I am having trouble picking the best data structure for solving a problem. The problem is as below: I have a nested list of identity codes where the sublists are of varying length. li = [['abc', 'ghi', 'lmn'], ['kop'], ['hgi', 'ghy']] I have a file with two entries on each line; an identity code and a number. abc 2.93 ghi 3.87 lmn 5.96 Each sublist represents a cluster. I wish to select the i.d. from each sublist with the highest number associated with it, append that i.d. to a new list and ultimately write it to a new file. What data structure should the file with numbers be read in as? Also, how would you iterate over said data structure to return the i.d. with the highest number that matches the i.d. within a sublist?   Hi all, I am learning JQuery, and I have checked out that JQUery has got a validation plugin. http://docs.jquery.com/Plugins/Validation#Validate_forms_like_you.27ve_never_been_validating_before.21 To use it, users have to include another script file in the Head tag in HTML. I am thinking if this will cause any code collisions to the codes in the validation plugin when more and more javascript files are included. Should I use JQuery to write myself new customed functions for checking data input from users or use the JQuery data validation plugin? Please advise.

  I have to modify some code and the previous developer left this comment: color: color, // e.g. '#RRGGBBFF' - Last 2 digits are alpha information On the page there is a color picker that let's the user change text color. It gives HEX values like so: #RRGGBB And there is a slider that allows the user to change a text's transparency. It runs from 0.1 to 1 Somehow I need to get a 2 digit letter from this transparency amount and append it to the HEX value for it to work. Does anyone know how to append Alpga information to HEX color codes? What is the math formula for it? I guess the question can also be answered if anyone knows how to concert RGBA color values with transparency into HEX: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.6)

UIImage* image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData: myData]; image = [image scaleToSize: size]; <- wouldn't this code create a leak since image(before scaling) is lost somewhere? i guess above codes work fine if image was first created with auto-release. But if image was created using 'alloc', it would create a leak in my short knowledge. How should I change scaleToSize: to guard against it? Thank you

  I have several tableviews with navigation controller. The navigation bar is white for all the views except the last one, which is red. I have [[[self navigationController] navigationBar] setTintColor:[UIColor redColor]; in the viewDidLoad of the last tableview and [[[self navigationController] navigationBar] setTintColor:[UIColor whiteColor]; in the viewDidLoad of other table views. It works fine until I get to the last view and the color of the navigation bar changes to red. When I go back to the previous views, all the previous views' navigation bar has changed to red. Where should I put those codes so the color will remain unchanged? Thanks,

• Robust way to display an image with one fixed dimension

  Lets say that we have an image uploaded by the user, the upload script limits the mb but not the image size (so could be any proportion, 600X200,200X350, and so...). Im already showing this image in one part on my site using the twitter bootstrap image handler written on css, thats good for a profile picture, the problem is that now I want that image to be a cover (like facebook/twitter cover image), my site is responsive so the width of the cover is 900px or 100% if the screen resolution is less than 900px wide. The height is always fixed to 200px. So I know there is a way to control the correct image display using CSS (maybe with jquery too) but Im not a front-end dev, Im a php dev and I dont want to use server side scripts for doing this. So im looking for suggestions or pieces of codes (css, javascript) to start with, I belive that it have to be an already made solution for this, but I dont find any on google. Thanks for any advice!

  I used the codes from the following the website. And it helped a lot to draw the required object on my screen. But the problem I am facing is getting the coordinates of my object. Let me explain. According to the code. You just need to add your graphic images in PNG format and refer it to the class here. What I am trying to achieve is a simple collision detection mechanism. I have added a maze (as PNG). And have a object (as PNG) to go through the blank path within the maze. In order to do this I need to know the blank spaces within the coordinates through which my object will move.
