• WinXP Parallels Guest with OS X host -- communication between the two?

  The setup: Windows XP guest OS running inside Parallels 5 on a OS X 10.6.2 host. I have a win32 application that runs in windows that communicates with other programs by sending out keystrokes to the program in focus. I can run this software inside parallels just fine, but I need a way for it to communicate (via keystrokes) with native OS X applications. For instance, the windows software sends out a continuous stream of a's and w's, based on the program input from an external source. On the other side, I have a Mac version of VLC media player with hotkeys set up for a and w for the two functions I would like to manipulate from the windows software. How can I set up a link between the guest and host OS's with Parallels that lets a windows program send keystrokes to a mac program?

• Is it possible to change the default InputView in MonoTouch?

  I would like to display a different view than the standard keyboard (a picker control, or a date picker, for example) when a text field becomes first responder (i.e. gets focus). This would be really nice, because currently I'm pushing a custom view which contains my picker control onto the navigation stack where the user chooses an option, and then hits an OK or Cancel button. According to the documentation for UITextField.InputView: Assigning a custom view to this property causes that view to be presented instead. But, It's read only!!! Is there a workaround for this? Do I need to implement a custom UITextField control and somehow override the InputView property? Do I need to call some kind of native function? I'd really love not to have to do either of those things... but if I have to, so be it. Thanks in advance!

  I have a dialog created from a template. It has controls listed in the template in the following order: some irrelevant controls a label with an accelerator (let's pretend it's Alt-A) an edit box OK and Cancel buttons Normally when I hit Alt-A the keybord focus is transferred to the edit box - just as needed. However I sometimes need to disable to edit box. If I hit Alt-A when the edit box is disabled the effect is that the OK button is pressed and that is definitely not what I want. I would prefer to have no action taken in this case. What could I do to workaround this?

• keyboard gets locked when editing source controlled files using Visual Studio 2008

  Hi, I am facing a strange issue with editing source controlled files (especially aspx files) using visual studio 2008. when I check out and edit the file, I can edit fine for few seconds and after that keyboard gets locked and I can't type anything (it doesn't affect the files not added to source control). as soon it is locked, if I try to type, the focus shifts to solution explorer and other windows and sometimes it freezes and doesn't respond at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling visual studio, reinstalling the source control plug-in. none of it worked. not sure if it is my machine or my profile. Please help if you have any clues. I can't see any other solution for this except rebuilding the machine Update: I use Perforce plug-in for source control Thanks, Rama

• AutoComplete textbox and "Hide Pointer While Typing" in windows

  How can the "Hide Pointer While Typing" option be disabled by application? I'm having an issue with the cursor hiding and not getting it back without pressing escape or losing window focus. The application has been written in C# and uses WPF. A technology specific answer is not required because it'll likely be possible using any technology. Here's the scenario: A user can type in a TextBox and an AutoComplete list shows up below the box. Once the user starts typing though, he/she can no longer select an item from the drop down because there is no mouse cursor. I noticed that Firefox does not have this behavior. For example, while typing in a URL in the address bar the mouse cursor never disappears. There are other places I've seen this behavior so I know it must be possible. Any help is greatly appreciated!

• How can you prevent a window being captured by Print-Screen?

  I noticed a few times than when I print-screen while Media Player is running, the content is replaced with a grey rectangle. I've no idea if it's deliberate due to DRM, or some technical issue, but it struck me that being able to deliberately block screen-capture might be a useful feature in some scenarios. Is there some specific message each HWND gets for print-screen - does Windows do a special repaint or simply dump buffers to the clipboard? I guess I'd prefer to focus this on Win32 specifically, but as long as it's Windows-related then fine.

• Having onFocus do several things.

  So I have this input tag <input ... onFocus=...> and what I want is for a warning popup to come up if somebody clicks to write in the input field. After the person has read the warning he/she closes the popup and can continue to write in the field. I have managed to implement the popup just fine but my problem is that I lose focus on the input field when the popup comes up so the next time I click the field the popup comes back again and im back on square one. The system I work on uses php and javascript so and I cannot use anything other than that to solve the problem and my experience with both php and javascript is limited.

  I'm learning Java EE 6. I've seen how much progress it has achieved in this release of the umbrella specification. EJBs 3.1 are far easier and more lightweight than previous versions, and CDI is amazing. I'm not familiar with Spring, but I often read that it offered some neat features that the Java EE stack didn't. Yet I also read now that JEE has caught up, and can now fully compete with Spring. I know that choosing from both depends on many factors, but if we only focus on features, say the latest trends etc. Which one has the leading edge?. Can Spring 3 offer some assets The JAVA EE 6 stack can't? Also, what about Seam framework? From what I read it's like java ee 6 but with some additions?

  Greetings, for one of my applications I'm trying to implement an "Edit" menu. This menu usually has the standard-entries Undo, Cut, Copy and Paste. This menu is not there by default, and users seem to expect it especially on Mac OS X. Is there a an easier way of implementing this, without doing so in every widget manually? Since most widgets have the copy/paste/undo mechanism already implemented via shortcuts, I'd like to provide a few simple menu actions that call them as well. The actions should call whatever widget has the focus first, then they should pass the events upwards the object chain, I guess. I'm using Qt 4.6 on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Thanks!

• Signed and unsigned, and how bit extension works in C

  unsigned short s; s = 0xffff; int i = s; How does the extension work here? 2 larger order bytes are added, but I'm confused whether 1's or 0's are extended there. This is probably platform dependent so let's focus on what Unix does. Would the two bigger order bytes of the int be filled with 1's or 0's, and why? Basically, does the computer know that s is unsigned, and correctly assign 0's to the higher order bits of the int? So i is now 0x0000ffff? Or since ints are default signed in unix does it take the signed bit from s (a 1) and copy that to the higher order bytes?

• Lightbox getting open multiple time on enter.

  Hi All, I am going through a weird problem while using lightbox . Where ever the new light box is used user is able to open the same light box on same page number of time. For e.g Using tab button go to `Lightbox link`. Press enter --> Light box will open. Press enter --> second light box open below the previous one. and so on....... The problem is occurred when I use tab and entered on the link my focus is not getting changed from the link and so user is able to open multiple lightbox on clicking enter.   I’m writing to solicit ideas for a solution to an upcoming problem. The product that provides data to our ETL process currently has multiple versions. Our clients are all using some version of the product, but not all use the same version and they will not all be upgraded at the same time. As new versions of the product are rolled out, the most common change is to add new data columns. Columns being dropped or renamed may happen occasionally, but our main focus right now is how to handle new columns being added. The problem that we want to address is how to handle the data for clients who use an older version of the product. If we don’t account for the new columns in our SSIS packages, then the data in those columns for clients using an older product version will not be processed. What we want to avoid is having to maintain a separate version of the SSIS packages for each version of the product. Has anyone successfully implemented a solution for this situation?

  Hi, When window A is show, I want to show another none-modal popup window B, but: I don't want window A to become inactive due to window B becomes the front window; I want that when window B is focused, I pull down a combo box control on window A with one click (generally you have to click twice, one for moving the focus to window A and the second for pulling down the combo box); As you can see, the window B that I want is something like a more usable popup window like a popup menu (which is less a obstacle than a general none-modal window when you want it to get away by clicking on any other part of the parent window). • Printing contents of a dynamically created iframe from parent window

  I have a page with a list of links and a div which serves as a placeholder for the pages the links lead to. Everytime user clicks on a link an iframe is created in the div and its src attribute gets the value of the link href attribute - simple and clear, sort of external web pages gallery. What i do have a problem with is printing the contents of the iframe. To do this i use this code: function PrintIframe() { frames["name"].focus(); frames["name"].print(); } The issue seems to be that iframe is created dynamically by JQuery - when I insert an iframe right into the html code, the browser prints the external page all right. But with the same code injected by JavaScript nothing happens. I tried to use JQ 1.3 'live' event on "Print" link, no success. Is there a way to overcome this?
