  • Google App Engine - About how much quota does a single datastore put use?

    - by Spines
The latency for a datastore put is about 150ms (http://code.google.com/status/appengine/detail/datastore/2010/03/11#ae-trust-detail-datastore-put-latency). About how much CPUTime is used by a single datastore put with data size of 100 bytes, into an entity that has only 2 columns, and no indexes? I plan to do some testing with this later today to figure it out, but if anyone already knows that would help me out :). Also, does anyone know about how much extra overhead in CPUTime doing this datastore put through the task queue would be? Note: This is kind of a follow up to this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2421075/google-app-engine-how-reliable-are-the-logs.

  • Have Free website Hosting with Google App Engine

    - by mickthompson
I'm reading about Google App Engine. I'm creating a bunch of simple dynamic websites in java. I'm considering to use Google App Engine and setup my clients' website on it. In this way I've only to register a domain www.myclietdomain.com and then point that to the GoogleAppEngine application... In this way I plan to avoid hosting costs. Infact I'm paying even for hosting few static html pages... Do you think that is possible to use Google App Engine for this scope?

  • Google calendar sync has stopped working

    - by Andrew Heath
I set up Google Calendar to sync with Lightning in Thunderbird. It has worked well for the last few weeks. It has now suddenly stopped working. I have checked the CalDAV addresses and they are all still ok. I do not know if my recent addition of syncing my new Android phone with the Google Calendar has anything to do with it, or just a coincidence. When Thunderbird tries to sync, it asks for the username and password. I enter these for the Google Calendar, and end up in a continuous circle.

  • Google Chrome passphrase : where is it?

    - by danielson
Every time I do a fresh install, Google Chrome asks me for my passphrase. Have searched high and low in Google's help forum and have yet to receive or find any form of response. When I do a fresh install, if I try to enter the passphrase (with all possible passwords i can recall) nothing works and I can't recover my extensions, bookmarks etc. On the other hand, if I wait a bit, everything falls to place. I close that window asking for passphrase and all my extensions, bookmarks are back. The failure to enter a proper passphrase code gets me a message to change my passphrase in my account settings. Who knows where that is! No one at Google's forum seems to know anything about this "passphrase".

  • Google SketchUp network licensing issue

    - by Larry G. Wapnitsky
We have 10 licenses for Google SketchUp in my local office. We store the license file on a network drive that is accessible to all users. We've been finding that, at most, only 3 or 4 people can run it at one time before the license shows up as "expired" on another user's system. I've verified with Google that we have 10 licenses, and have downloaded updated license files from them. The only thing that I can think of is that sometimes SketchUp crashes. Could this be utilizing a license somehow without giving it up? Google has not been able to answer this question.

  • Google Data Api returning an invalid access token

    - by kingdavies
    I'm trying to pull a list of contacts from a google account. But Google returns a 401. The url used for requesting an authorization code: String codeUrl = 'https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/auth' + '?' + 'client_id=' + EncodingUtil.urlEncode(CLIENT_ID, 'UTF-8') + '&redirect_uri=' + EncodingUtil.urlEncode(MY_URL, 'UTF-8') + '&scope=' + EncodingUtil.urlEncode('https://www.google.com/m8/feeds/', 'UTF-8') + '&access_type=' + 'offline' + '&response_type=' + EncodingUtil.urlEncode('code', 'UTF-8') + '&approval_prompt=' + EncodingUtil.urlEncode('force', 'UTF-8'); Exchanging the returned authorization code for an access token (and refresh token): String params = 'code=' + EncodingUtil.urlEncode(authCode, 'UTF-8') + '&client_id=' + EncodingUtil.urlEncode(CLIENT_ID, 'UTF-8') + '&client_secret=' + EncodingUtil.urlEncode(CLIENT_SECRET, 'UTF-8') + '&redirect_uri=' + EncodingUtil.urlEncode(MY_URL, 'UTF-8') + '&grant_type=' + EncodingUtil.urlEncode('authorization_code', 'UTF-8'); Http con = new Http(); Httprequest req = new Httprequest(); req.setEndpoint('https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/token'); req.setHeader('Content-Type', 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'); req.setBody(params); req.setMethod('POST'); Httpresponse reply = con.send(req); Which returns a JSON array with what looks like a valid access token: { "access_token" : "{access_token}", "token_type" : "Bearer", "expires_in" : 3600, "refresh_token" : "{refresh_token}" } However when I try and use the access token (either in code or curl) Google returns a 401: curl -H "Authorization: Bearer {access_token}" https://www.google.com/m8/feeds/contacts/default/full/ Incidentally the same curl command but with an access token acquired via https://code.google.com/oauthplayground/ works. Which leads me to believe there is something wrong with the exchanging authorization code for access token request as the returned access token does not work. I should add this is all within the expires_in time frame so its not that the access_token has expired

  • Mail Server on Google Apps, Hotmail Blocks

    - by detay
My company provides private research tools (sites) for companies. Each site has its own domain name and users. These sites need to be able to send outbound mail for notifications such as password reminders. We started using Google Apps for this purpose, but lately we are having tremendous problems with mailing, especially to hotmail. I added the SPF record as required. Mxtoolbox says my domains are not in any blacklists. I was told to contact https://postmaster.live.com/snds/addnetwork.aspx and add my network. Given that I am using google's mail servers for sending mail, should I add their IP address for registering my domain? Or should I add my server's IP even though I am not hosting the mail server on it? Here's an example of a returned message; > Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: by 10.112.1.195 with SMTP > id 3csp62757lbo; > Mon, 10 Dec 2012 10:42:55 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; > d=gmail.com; s=20120113; > h=mime-version:from:to:x-failed-recipients:subject:message-id:date > :content-type; > bh=x41JiCH75hsonh+5c/kzwIs7R8u4Hum2u396lkV3g2w=; > b=v+bBPvufqfVkNz2UrnhyyoGj1Cuwf6x/yMj0IXJgH27uJU7TqBOvbwnNHf33sQ7B9T > uGzxwryC2fmxBh72cGz1spwWK348nUp6KK73MXKnF8mpc3nPQ8Ke+EQpSPeJdq/7oZvd > scZTGpy//IiGEUDU5bJ7YPqYXQRycY5N6AF5iI4mWWwbS4opybp3IKpDDktu11p/YEEO > Fj9wnSCx3nLMXB/XZgSjjmnaluGhYNdh3JFtz83Vmr50qXTG/TuIXlkirP73GfGvIt2S > 7sy8/YdEbZR92mYe9wucditYr7MOuyjyYrZYCg+weXeTZiJX1PfBVieD+kD9MnCairnP > rQeQ== Received: by 10.14.215.197 with SMTP id e45mr52766237eep.0.1355164974784; > Mon, 10 Dec 2012 10:42:54 -0800 (PST) MIME-Version: 1.0 Return-Path: <> Received: by 10.14.215.197 with SMTP id > e45mr65950764eep.0; Mon, 10 Dec 2012 10:42:54 -0800 (PST) From: Mail > Delivery Subsystem <[email protected]> To: > [email protected] X-Failed-Recipients: ********@hotmail.fr > Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Failure) Message-ID: > <[email protected]> Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2012 > 18:42:54 +0000 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 > > Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: > > *********@hotmail.fr > > Technical details of permanent failure: Message rejected. • Pass variable to Info Window in FusionTableLayer

    - by user1030205
I am building a web application that includes a Google Map layered with data from a Google Fusion Table. I have defined the info window for the markers in the Fusion Table and all is rendering as expected, but I have one issue. I need to pass a session variable from my web application to be included in the links that are defined in the info window, but can't seem to find a way to do this. Below is the javascript I am currently using to render the map: var myOptions = { zoom: 10, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP, center: new google.maps.LatLng( 40.4230,-98.7372) } map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions); // Weather weatherLayer = new google.maps.weather.WeatherLayer({ temperatureUnits: google.maps.weather.TemperatureUnit.FAHRENHEIT }); weatherLayer.setMap(map); //Hobby Stores var storeLayer = new google.maps.FusionTablesLayer({ query: { select: "col2", from: "3991553" }, map: map, supressInfoWindows: true }); //Club Sites var siteLayer = new google.maps.FusionTablesLayer({ query: { select: "col13", from: "3855088" }, styles: [{ markerOptions: { iconName: "airports" }}], map: map, supressInfoWindows: true }); I'd like to be able to pass some type of parameter in the call to google.maps.FusionTableLayer that passes a value to be include in the info window, but can't find a way to do this. To view the actual page, visit www.dualrates.com. Enter your zipcode and select one of the airport markers to see the info window. You may have to zoom the map out to see an airfield.

  • Google document does not print correctly on Mac 10.7.5 using Chrome

    - by Android Addict
When attempting to print a Google document, the header does not get printed at all and the text starts almost in the center of the page - cutting off almost half of the text in the printable area horizontally. The vertical alignment appears fine, with the exception of hte missing header. I have searched the product forums at Google, but they are virtually unusable. Endless threads without a solution! For reference, the document prints fine from Windows XP using Chrome. I can also print from other applications on the Mac without issue - so I am thinking it's a Google doc issue at this point.

  • Google Apps Premier - Viewing shared calendars in outlook

    - by aseaman
We currently migrated from exchange to Google Apps Email and have been having issues when it comes to viewing shared calendars from within Outlook. Users are able to view other calendars from within the Google calendar tool but they cannot see these calendars in Outlook. It appears that users with the "Manage Changes" permission are able to view other calendars but they are also able to see any private appointments that a user has created as well. Is anyone aware of any 3rd party tools or workarounds that allow users to view shared calendars within Outlook without having to use the Google calendar tool?

  • How do I resolve "conflicting accounts" in google apps without breaking links to online photos on picasa?

    - by lee
I have been using google apps for some time, and only recently learned I have what google calls "conflicting accounts" which is creating a problem I haven't been able to resolve. Turns out that the apps account really only covers email, google docs, and the calendar and not other features like picasa, blogger, youtube etc. and at some point they gave me a non-apps google account with my same (proprietary non-gmail) email address for the additional apps. This is the "conflicting account." I had noticed that I sometimes had to come in through another door when I went back and forth, between docs, picasa, and mail let's say, but never understood why since it was the same username and password and I didn't get any communication about it at the time. Google is now in the process of giving google apps users access to the additional apps and providing instructions for consolidating the two accounts. But if I want to move my picasa site into the new apps structure I have to download my albums and re-synch them. This would be disastrous for me as I have hundreds of photos embedded in my websites, and new web addresses would break all the connections. The alternative seems to be to rename my "personal" (non-apps) accounts as described at http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?answer=185186: Users with conflicting Google Accounts can easily resolve their conflicts by renaming their personal Google Accounts, and the data in their personal accounts will remain safe and accessible to them. Here’s how a user can rename their personal Google Account: * Step 1: Visit www.google.com/accounts and sign in with your personal Google Account * Step 2: Click ‘Change email’ under ‘Personal Settings’ * Step 3: Enter a different email address where you can receive mail, enter your password, and click ‘Save email address’ * Step 4: Check your other email If your users don’t have different email addresses where they can receive mail, they can resolve the conflict by renaming their personal Google Accounts to @gmail.com addresses instead. Sounds easy enough, right? I gave them a gmail address. The wizard said "sorry you can't use a gmail account for this" --which contradicts the last paragraph above but ok, I switched to a new email address I just created for one of my domains. I can send email back and forth between this account and my google apps account with no problem. But when I try to use it as a replacement on the "personal" side I always get "The password you gave is incorrect." I have tried it over and over and know the password is correct. Since I like to get all my emails though one web interface I initially had the new email set up as an add-on to my google apps email account, but noting that the instructions said the "personal account" email could not be associated with any other gmail account I took it off and went back to accessing it via horde so there would be no conflict there, which seemed to make no difference. I can't figure out why it won't accept the password. Does anyone have any thoughts about that? or suggestions for another way to resolve my picasa problem? any help at all is greatly appreciated. Lee

  • AuthSub token from Google/YouTube API is always returned as invalid

    - by Miriam Raphael Roberts
Anyone out there have experience with the YouTube/Google API? I am trying to login to Google/Youtube using clientLogin, retrieve an AuthSub token, exchange it for a multi-session token and then use it in our upload form. Just a note that we are not going to have other users logging into our (secure) website, this is for our use only (no multi-users). We just want a way to upload videos to our YT account via our own website without having to login/upload to YouTube. Ultimately, everything is dependent on the first step. My AuthSub token is always being returned as invalid (Error '403'). All the steps I used are below with username/password changed. Anyone have an insight on why my AuthSub is always invalid? I'm trying to append more than one Google Map to a page. But it seems like I'm having some trouble. This would be the template I'm using to ( with Handlebars.js ) to create the same block more than once, about 50 times : <script type="text/x-handlebars-template"> {{#each productListing}} <div class="product-listing-wrapper"> <div class="product-listing"> <div class="left-side-content"> <div class="thumb-wrapper" data-image-link="{{ThumbnailUrl}}"> <i class="thumb"> <img src="{{ThumbnailUrl}}" alt="Thumb"> <span class="zoom-image"></span> </i> </div> <div class="google-maps-wrapper"> <div class="google-coordonates-wrapper"> <div class="google-coordonates"> <p>{{LatLon.Lat}}</p> <p>{{LatLon.Lon}}</p> </div> </div> <div class="google-maps-button"> <a class="google-maps" href="#">Google Maps</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="right-side-content"> <div class="map-canvas-wrapper"> <div id="map-canvas" class="map-canvas" data-latitude="{{LatLon.Lat}}" data-longitude="{{LatLon.Lon}}"></div> </div> <div class="content-wrapper"></div> </div> </div> </div> {{/each}} And I'm trying to append the map to the #map-canvas id. With the following block of code I'm doing the plotting : Cluster.prototype.initiate_map_assembling = function() { return $(this.map_canvas_wrapper_class).each(function(index, element) { var canvas = $(element).children(); var latitude = $(canvas).attr('data-latitude'); var longitude = $(canvas).attr('data-longitude'); var coordinates = new google.maps.LatLng(latitude, longitude); var options = { zoom: 9, center: coordinates, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP }; var map = new google.maps.Map($(canvas), options); var marker = new google.maps.Marker({ position: coordinates, map: map }); }); }; This way I'm "looping" through all the parent classes of the id I'm trying to append the map to, but the map would only append to the first id. I tried to append it to all of the id's in other ways but with the same results. So what would you suggest me to do to make it work as I would expect it, append the map to each of the id's ?

  • “It’s only test code…”

    - by Chris George
“Let me hack this in, it’s only test code”, “Don’t worry about getting it reviewed, it’s only test code”, “It doesn’t have to be elegant or efficient, it’s only test code”… do these phrases sound familiar? Chances are if you’ve working with test automation, at one point or other you will have heard these phrases, you have probably even used them yourself! What is certain is that code written under this “it’s only test code” mantra will come back and bite you in the arse! I’ve recently encountered a case where a test was giving a false positive, therefore hiding a real product bug because that test code was very badly written. Firstly it was very difficult to understand what the test was actually trying to achieve let alone how it was doing it, and this complexity masked a simple logic error. These issues are real and they do happen. Let’s take a step back from this and look at what we are trying to do. We are writing test code that tests product code, and we do this to create a suite of tests that will help protect our software against regressions. This test code is making sure that the product behaves as it should by employing some sort of expected result verification. The simple cases of these are generally not a problem. However, automation allows us to explore more complex scenarios in many more permutations. As this complexity increases then so does the complexity of the test code. It is at this point that code which has not been architected properly will cause problems.   Keep your friends close… So, how do we make sure we are doing it right? The development teams I have worked on have always had Test Engineers working very closely with their Software Engineers. This is something that I have always tried to take full advantage of. They are coding experts! So run your ideas past them, ask for advice on how to structure your code, help you design your data structures. This may require a shift in your teams viewpoint, as contrary to this section title and folklore, Software Engineers are not actually the mortal enemy of Test Engineers. As time progresses, and test automation becomes more and more ingrained in what we do, the two roles are converging more than ever. Over the 16 years I have spent as a Test Engineer, I have seen the grey area between the two roles grow significantly larger. This serves to strengthen the relationship and common bond between the two roles which helps to make test code activities so much easier!   Pair for the win Possibly the best thing you could do to write good test code is to pair program on the task. This will serve a few purposes. you will get the benefit of the Software Engineers knowledge and experience the Software Engineer will gain knowledge on the testing process. Sharing the love is a wonderful thing! two pairs of eyes are always better than one… And so are two brains. Between the two of you, I will guarantee you will derive more useful test cases than if it was just one of you.   Code reviews Another policy which certainly pays dividends is the practice of code reviews. By having one of your peers review your code before you commit it serves two purposes. Firstly, it forces you to explain your code. Just the act of doing this will often pick up errors in your code. Secondly, it gets yet another pair of eyes on your code! I cannot stress enough how important code reviews are. The benefits they offer apply as much to product code as test code. In short, Software and Test Engineers should all be doing them! It can be extended even further by getting test code reviewed by a Software Engineer and a Test Engineer, and likewise product code. This serves to keep both functions in the loop with changes going on within your code base.   Learn from your devs I briefly touched on this earlier but I’d like to go into more detail here. Pairing with your Software Engineers when writing your test code is such an amazing opportunity to improve your coding skills. As I sit here writing this article waiting to be called into court for jury service, it reminds me that it takes a lot of patience to be a Test Engineer, almost as much as it takes to be a juror! However tempting it is to go rushing in and start writing your automated tests, resist that urge. Discuss what you want to achieve then talk through the approach you’re going to take. Then code it up together. I find it really enlightening to ask questions like ‘is there a better way to do this?’ Or ‘is this how you would code it?’ The latter question, especially, is where I learn the most. I’ve found that most Software Engineers will be reluctant to show you the ‘right way’ to code something when writing tests because they perceive the ‘right way’ to be too complicated for the Test Engineer (e.g. not mentioning LINQ and instead doing something verbose). So by asking how THEY would code it, it unleashes their true dev-ness and advanced code usually ensues! I would like to point out, however, that you don’t have to accept their method as the final answer. On numerous occasions I have opted for the more simple/verbose solution because I found the code written by the Software Engineer too advanced and therefore I would find it unreadable when I return to the code in a months’ time! Always keep the target audience in mind when writing clever code, and in my case that is mostly Test Engineers.
