  • Div in Div: layout question

    I created the following layout: something Dummy #1 // .. the div above repeats several times I'm using the folowing style sheet: div.title { border: 1px black solid; } and would expect a border around all of class=title, but see only some strange lines at the top.   • Code indentation helper for gedit (python).

I wouldn't mind having to write my own plugin, as long as it's in Python... So: Is there a plugin for this in gedit? If not, would it be possible to write one in Python.

  • Converting C source to C++

    How would you go about converting a reasonably large (300K), fairly mature C codebase to C++? The kind of C I have in mind is split into files roughly corresponding to modules (i.e. less granular than a typical OO class-based decomposition), using internal linkage in lieu private functions and data, and external linkage for public functions and data. Global variables are used extensively for communication between the modules. There is a very extensive integration test suite available, but no unit (i.e. module) level tests. I have in mind a general strategy: Compile everything in C++'s C subset and get that working. Convert modules into huge classes, so that all the cross-references are scoped by a class name, but leaving all functions and data as static members, and get that working. Convert huge classes into instances with appropriate constructors and initialized cross-references; replace static member accesses with indirect accesses as appropriate; and get that working. Now, approach the project as an ill-factored OO application, and write unit tests where dependencies are tractable, and decompose into separate classes where they are not; the goal here would be to move from one working program to another at each transformation. Obviously, this would be quite a bit of work. Are there any case studies / war stories out there on this kind of translation? Alternative strategies? Other useful advice? Note 1: the program is a compiler, and probably millions of other programs rely on its behaviour not changing, so wholesale rewriting is pretty much not an option. Note 2: the source is nearly 20 years old, and has perhaps 30% code churn (lines modified + added / previous total lines) per year. It is heavily maintained and extended, in other words. Thus, one of the goals would be to increase mantainability. [For the sake of the question, assume that translation into C++ is mandatory, and that leaving it in C is not an option. The point of adding this condition is to weed out the "leave it in C" answers.]

  • Best way to do text processing in linux/mac ?

    I generally need to do a fair amount of text processing for my research, such as removing the last token from all lines, extracting the first 2 tokens from each line, splitting each line into tokens, etc. What is the best way to perform this ? Should I learn Perl for this? Or should I learn some kind of shell commands? The main concern is speed. If I need to write long code for such stuff, it defeats the purpose.

  • Multi-threaded Pooled Allocators

    I'm having some issues using pooled memory allocators for std::list objects in a multi-threaded application. The part of the code I'm concerned with runs each thread function in isolation (i.e. there is no communication or synchronization between threads) and therefore I'd like to setup separate memory pools for each thread, where each pool is not thread-safe (and hence fast). I've tried using a shared thread-safe singleton memory pool and found the performance to be poor, as expected. This is a heavily simplified version of the type of thing I'm trying to do.   • How do I format a String in an email so Outlook will print the line breaks?

    I'm trying to send an email in Java but when I read the body of the email in Outlook, it's gotten rid of all my linebreaks. I'm putting \n at the ends of the lines but is there something special I need to do other than that? The receivers are always going to be using Outlook. I found a page on microsoft.com that says there's a 'Remove line breaks' "feature" in Outlook so does this mean there's no solution to get around that other than un-checking that setting? Thanks

    I have a verbatim environment containing computer output as text. This text is sematically made of two sections, each section being separated from the other by an empty line. The number of sections and their content is known, so I don't need to parse the text, but the line between the sections is very important (as it gives semantics to the "text"). Each segment is made of multiple lines. How could I write (1) and (2) on the left handside at the centre of each segment?

  • Suppressing .net's updatepanel submit event handler

  • Silverlight 4 wait/spinner control

There are several examples on the web for Silverlight 3 but I'm either unable to compile them into my project or they just flat out display nothing. In addition I'm unable to find any examples specific to Silverlight 4. Can someone please post a sample for Silverlight 4 or a link to one?

  • git status shows a file that I have listed explicitly in my .gitignore file

    I have the following line in my .gitignore file: var/www/docs/.backroom/billing_info/inv.pl but when I type 'git status' I am told the following: # modified: var/www/docs/.backroom/billing_info/inv.pl I dont understand how a file which is explicitly listed as an ignore pattern could be listed as modified when I want git to ignore it.     I have a file that is tab delimited. I would like a powershell script that counts the number of tabs in each line. I came up with this: ${C:\tabfile.txt} |% {$_} | Select-String \t | Measure-Object | fl count it yields 3, Which is the number of lines in the file. any pointers to what I'm doing wrong? I would like it to print a single number for each line in the file.

  • Disable comments in stdout (DOS)

    If I use Dos command "copy" to concatenate two files: copy a1.txt + a2.txt a.txt I will have something like the following in stdout: C:\a1.txt C:\a2.txt 1 file(s) copied. I do not want to have anything written in stdout, I mean, I just want to have 'a.txt' without those 3 lines written in stdout. Is there any way to do so? the reason is, I need speed and I know that any IO takes time. Thanks, Shadi.

  • svn says conflicted but it's really merged (TortoiseSVN)

    Lately I've been seeing behavior where after an update svn shows certain files as "conflicted" but when I try to edit the conflicts, there are none (The "next conflict" and "previous conflict" buttons are disabled and if I scroll through the file, none of the lines are marked red). This seems to have started after I started working from a different repository than I had been working with, but I'm not sure if that's related.

  • Lightbox Plus Captions Spill Over

    I am using Lightbox Plus for wordpress. My captions are spilling over and overlapping the picture when the image is in lightbox mode. The captions are covering the image and the close link, as well as being off-center.
