Visual Studio 2008 Unresponsive When Opening JavaScript Files

I'm starting a new ASP.NET project that I'm trying to use some jQuery with, but whenever I try to open .js file (blank or containing a few lines of javascript) in Visual Studio, it often hangs; showing the .js filename in a new tab, but the actual text editor window showing whatever was drawn to the screen before opening the .js file. Eventually, after closing and re-opening, it will open in the text editor, but the font is always something like 10pt Arial. Even after changing this in VS options, the next re-launch of Visual Studio yields the same results. Has anyone else experienced hang, unresponsiveness, wonkiness from Visual Studio with JavaScript files?

what is the best practices around links and url in asp.net-mvc

looking at different sites, i see conflicting conventions. if you want to have links to images, other pages, js files, i have seen: URL.Content("~/scripts/myscript.js"); <a href="/scripts/msscripts.js"> <img src="../../content/stylesheet.css"> <img src="../content/stylesheet.css"> these all seem to work in asp.net mvc but it seems like there are all doing slightly different things. I am moving to a new webserver where they are changing from iis redirecting to isapi rewriting and i was told to make sure my links were done in a correct way or the site not work. Can someone clarify what the "correct" way is ?

date picker in two different browsers

Can I use JavaScript to check whether JQuery is (already) downloaded (cached) on the target web browser (user) or not? Django, javascript and code ruse problem

Hi, I have some sort of a design problem with my Django AJAX application. I have a template where I initialize js variable from django context variable like so: var test = "{{ test }}"; This variable is than used in a number of js functions that are needed for interface to work properly. So now I'm trying to reuse some content from this page in another page that loads it dynamically on some user interaction using jQuery.load(..), and I don't see any way how I can initialize that variable, so js functions don't work now. Is there any solution for this or may be I'm doing it wrong? Thanks.

Hi! Can PHP call a function and don't wait for it to return? So something like this: function callback($pause, $arg) { sleep($pause); echo $arg, "\n"; } header('Content-Type: text/plain'); fast_call_user_func_array('callback', array(3, 'three')); fast_call_user_func_array('callback', array(2, 'two')); fast_call_user_func_array('callback', array(1, 'one')); would output one (after 1 second) two (after 2 seconds) three (after 3 seconds) rather than three (after 3 seconds) two (after 3 + 2 = 5 seconds) one (after 3 + 2 + 1 = 6 seconds) Main script is intended to be run as a permanent process (TCP server). callback() function would receive data from client, execute external PHP script and then do something based on other arguments that are passed to callback(). The problem is that main script must not wait for external PHP script to finish. Result of external script is important, so exec('php -f file.php &') is not an option.

I'd like to plot a 2-d matrix from numpy as a colored matrix in Matplotlib. I have the following 9-by-9 array: my_array = diag(ones(9)) # plot the array pcolor(my_array) I'd like to set the first three elements of the diagonal to be a certain color, the next three to be a different color, and the last three a different color. I'd like to specify the color by a hex code string, like "#FF8C00". How can I do this? Also, how can I set the color of 0-valued elements for pcolor?

Controlling a browser from Python

I am looking for a way to control a browser from Python, i.e. fill out form fields and submit them, possibly call JS functions. I've looked around a bit, but as far as I could see PyWebKitGtk only lets you show the browser as a GUI element, not interface with it. Is there a way to do this easily? I wrote my program logic in Python, and I would hate to port it to JS. Besides that, even if I'd use pure JS "bookmarklets", those wouldn't be able to read/write to my local filesystem, would they? P.S. to quell your suspicions, I'm not trying to automatically fill out forum account creation forms or something similarly spammious, though the task is technically similar. I need to crawl/scrape sites for my research project.

I am not allowed to use Sessions to store first three pages data. and i need to use 'BACK' button on last three pages. when i click 'BACK' button i need to maintain the previous page data entered by user. As my pages do some postbacks, i cannot use javascript.history function. My restrictions are: As the application is served from a web farm, a session object cannot be used. However, for the purpose of this excersise, consider session object as database-like persistent space where you can store your data. your code should show an easy way to switch to a different persistent space. Using Components.utils.import in a firefox extension

I am trying to create some global variables in a firefox extension. In my content folder, I have two javascript files: 1) Main JS file that holds the functions for the different events, etc 2) A file that stores only an object with the pieces of state I want to maintain. Also, I set the array EXPORTED_SYMBOLS. I am having issues with the following line found in my main JS file: Components.utils.import("resource:///globalVariables.js"); When it is at the top of the file, nothing seems to work. If I move it into the function where I need the variable, the rest of my code works, but the function with this line does nothing. Any advice that would help me with this problem would be great. Hi, I have a Tour object which has many Place objects. For the list of tours, I want to show some info of the tour, the number of places of the tour, and three Place's images. Right one my SQL queries are (i'm using Doctrine with Symfony on MySQL) get Tour get Tour 1 places get Tour 2 places get Tour 3 places ... get Tour n places If I have a three Tour list, it's not so bad; but I'm sure it can get bad if I do a 10-20 tour-list. So, thinking on how to improve the queries I've thought of several measures: Having a place count cache Storing the urls of three images on a new tour field. The problem with 2. is that if I change the image, I have to check all the tours to update that image for another one. What solution do you think is best to scale the system in a near future? Any other suggestion. thanks!

Example: The following string is defined in a json.js file. var test = "One complimentary entrée with the purchase of an entrée."; It is included in an index.html file by <script type="text/JavaScript" src="./json.js"></script> When the string is displayed in UI, it shows up as "One complimentary entr?e with the purchase of an entr?e." But if string is defined directly in the index.html, then it is not a problem. Can anyone suggest a solution on how to keep the text in the separate .js file?

I am using a horizontal scroll for a page on my website ~ works great in FF but not in IE, how can i get it to work in IE? JSON.stringify() supported by IE 8?

I need to use: JSON.stringify() which should be supported by chrome, safari, and FF (I think). I think IE8 also has support for the JSON object. I think IE7 and 6 do not, so I'm doing this:  so, I think this will import the external javascript only if IE6 & 7. I looked at the url where the script is hosted, they are including only if the IE version is less than 9: http://code.google.com/p/html5shiv/  so should I be including this for IE 8 too? Rails model to represent multiple fields

I'm developing a rails project where I have one data model with multiple fields that are collection selects. I'd like to create another model to represent all of these collection select fields. So, for instance, my main data model has three collection select fields -- one for county, one for category, and one for classification. I could separate these into three separate data models, but that seems redundant since they all share the same characteristics. They have a type and a value, like a county is a county and it has a value of let's say Sonoma, just as category has a type of category and a value of let's say Winery. If you've ever used Drupal, I'm basically looking for the behavior of the taxonomy functionality. So you see my dilemma: I need to separate these fields into three separate fields but they have very similar data structures. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Starting an ASP.NET MVC 4 project. Is it necessary to use RequireJS if I'm using bundling?

If RequireJS makes it so that multiple js files are combined into a single main.js file, is it essentially the same as ASP.NET's script bundling functionality? Would the only bonus of using RequireJS in addition to bundling be the ability to have certain scripts be loaded according to RequireJS configuration? I'm very new to both bundling and RequireJS, but after doing some reading, it seems like bundling takes care of multiple requests to load several js files. Are there any other things I might be missing out on with regards to using RequireJS with bundling?

I have the following structure: -uploadpage.html -index.php -resources -jquery.1.4.2.min.js On my index.php, I get the contents then output uploadpage.html through this code: $output = file_get_contents("uploadpage.html"); echo $output; My upload.html has the javascript at the bottom: <script type="text/javscript" src="./resources/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function() { callSomething(); } ); function callSomething() {return true;} </script> However this results in an error "$ is not defined" which means that the jquery js file is not loaded. Any ideas?

Postback of delimited text from javascript and parsing on server side

In my ASP.NET page, I have a Javascript object, like this: var args = new Object(); args.Data1 = document.getElementById("Data1").value; args.Data2 = document.getElementById("Data2").value; args.Data3 = document.getElementById("Data3").value; The object is populated on client side using user input data. I am passing the data to a C# method, through an Ajax request: someObj.AjaxRequest(argsData1 + "|" + argsData2 + "|" + argsData3) Finally, I need to obtain the data in my C# code: string data1 = [JS args.Data1] string data2 = [JS args.Data2] string data3 = [JS args.Data3] My question is what's the best solution for this? As i am concatenating bits of user input, I don't think it's best to use "|" as a delimiter. Also, it's not clear to me how to actually parse the data in my C# code to populate the three variables with the original data.

I am trying to write some google map functionlity and playing around with javascript closures with an aim to try organise and structure my code better. I am trying to get the value of base_path variable in PHP (on lamp server) . I have kept the code insider beta_test directory inside www directly. i.e, base path function should return " /beta_test/ " . But it is returning just single slash ( "/" ) .
