• Facebook Connect Post Feed from iPhone App without preview Broken!? URGENT!

  Hello All: I just downloaded the latest FBConnect build, popped in my keys and getting a mysterious hanging error only when I try to post a feed without previewing (setting preview to zero). The activity indicated disappears and the blank dialog window just hangs there. (This mirrors what I was getting on the app I was developing). If I try to post a feed with preview it works; set preview to zero it just hangs. Again; thats with the sample project "Publish Feed" button. Hitting getting permission button and then Publish Feed does same thing...... Other Developers have confirmed seeing this too...Apps that have previously had working feed posts have been broken for weeks. Discussions on facebook connect forum seem to be related to this.   Hi, I have this code to read a CVS file. It reads each line, devides each line by delimiter ',' and stored the field values in array 'strline()' . How do I extract only required fields from the CSV file? • What to Return? Error String, Bool with Error String Out, or Void with Exception

  I spend most of my time in C# and am trying to figure out which is the best practice for handling an exception and cleanly return an error message from a called method back to the calling method. For example, here is some ActiveDirectory authentication code. Please imagine this Method as part of a Class (and not just a standalone function.) bool IsUserAuthenticated(string domain, string user, string pass, out errStr) { bool authentic = false; try { // Instantiate Directory Entry object DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + domain, user, pass); // Force connection over network to authenticate object nativeObject = entry.NativeObject; // No exception thrown? We must be good, then. authentic = true; } catch (Exception e) { errStr = e.Message().ToString(); } return authentic; } The advantages of doing it this way are a clear YES or NO that you can embed right in your If-Then-Else statement. The downside is that it also requires the person using the method to supply a string to get the Error back (if any.) I guess I could overload this method with the same parameters minus the "out errStr", but ignoring the error seems like a bad idea since there can be many reasons for such a failure... The downside with this way of doing it is that the user has to put this method in a try-catch block. Thoughts? Is there another way of doing this that I'm not thinking of?

• Howto troubleshoot vb6 dll 800a01ad error in c# application

  I have a dll that I created from a VB6 project that I am now using in a c# project. This has worked before but now when I try to return to the c# project to fix a bug, the program get a COMException stating roughly translated: Could not create an instance of COM-component with CLSID {085E3494-9F78-47D5-B0E6-FA460FD3CBED} from IClassFactory because of the following error: 800a01ad. So I try to create a new empty c# project with only one line in the main function: OurNamespace.OurClass foo = new OurNamespace.OurClass(); Which fails with the same error. I have registered the dll but that did not change the outcome of the problem. The problem only occurs on the machine I am currently at, still I'm interested to understand the problem so that I know how to fix it if it occurs on a customers computer.

If there is a base type with a requested id but of the wrong subclass I want to return null, using a named query. The code below does this, but I am wondering if I can avoid the try/catch with a better HQL. Can I?   I have a fairly substantial library of web services built in .NET that I use as a data model for our company web sites. In most .NET applications I use the Global ASAX file for profiling, logging, and creating bug reports for all exceptions thrown by the application. Global ASAX isn't available for web services so I'm curious as to what other strategies people have come up with to work around this limitation. • Problem Loading AS2 swf into AS3 swf

  I've been trying very hard to get an AS2 swf to load properly inside an AS3 swf - but to no avail ... The AS2 file (which is a rather big app referencing many external xml files etc.) works perfectly when launched in Flash Player. When trying to load the same file through an AS3 swf (using URLRequest and Loader classes), the file starts loading but stops abruptly during the preloading phase. (Same happens if I try to load it using AS2 "loadMovie".) What is there more to try? Security settings, custom loader classes - any advice is appreciated.

  Hi. I have a j2ee application running on spring framework. I am implementing a transaction manager with AOP. It works fine. When an exception occurs in my method it is detected by my AOP configuration and rolls back the changes in the DB. But the problem is the code where you expect the error should not be surrounded with try-catch. When I suround it with try-catch it won't roll-back. But I need to do some stuffs like logging whenever there are errors and the only place I can think of placing it is in the catch block.

• SSRS 2008 Interactive Sorting in Sub-Report not working as expected

  I have a (parent) report that has a list. The details group of this list contains one sub-report. So basically if the list has 10 records (rows) the sub-report is executed 10 times. The problem seems to be with interactive sorting in the Sub-Report. It has 4 columns with interactive sorting enabled. When I run the parent report and try to sort columns SSRS "remembers" the previous sort column and sorts by multiple columns at the same time. For example if I sort by Col A then click to sort by Col B, SSRS will preserve the sorting of Col A (and the direction) and then apply the sorting to Col B. However I simply want to sort by Col B and do not want to Col A to be part of the sort. When I try this directly with the sub-report everything works as expected. Any ideas why this is happening?

• SQL Server catch error from extended stored procedure

  Hello I have an extended stored procedure that sends an error message. srv_sendmsg(pSrvProc, SRV_MSG_ERROR, errorNum, SRV_FATAL_SERVER, 1, NULL, 0, (DBUSMALLINT) __LINE__, buff, SRV_NULLTERM); I've set the severity to SVR_FATAL_SERVER just as a test to see if I can cause the message to throw an exception in the sql. SELECT ERROR_NUMBER() AS ErrorNumber ,ERROR_MESSAGE() AS ErrorMessage; END CATCH I would think that when my xp sends the error message the tsql would catch the error and select the error_number and error_message. Instead what ends up happening is that the xp sends the message and the T-SQL continues on its way like nothing happened. The @@Error variable doesn't get set either.   Hello All, I have just started trying to make a simple game with XNA 3.1 to help myself learn C# and XNA. I have run into a bit of an interesting problem, however. In all of the tutorials, one is supposed to pass GraphicsDevice when instantiating a new spriteBatch object like this: spriteBatch = new SpriteBatch(GraphicsDevice); One might even do this: GraphicsDevice objGraphics = new graphics.GraphicsDevice; spriteBatch = new SpriteBatch(objGraphics); where graphics is the GraphicsDeviceManager. However, no matter which version I try, I always get an ArgumentNullException when I try to pass the GraphicsDevice object to spriteBatch's constructor. Almost every tutorial I have found gives the first one and only one mentioned the second option. Has anyone else run into a similar error or know what could be causing this? I am working in Windows 7 x64 with Visual Studio 2008.

• .NET AxWebBrowser can't open page "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" error

  Oh, I am stuck again on this quiet annoying problem. I am trying to do a little automated browsing using the axWebBrowser component and it worked before. Now all of a sudden I get the following message when I try to browse to a page. Navigation to the webpage was canceled What you can try: Refresh the page. I totally disabled my firewall, ran VS2008 in Administrator mode, I even installed IE8 all to no avail. By the way IE8 doesn't work either. I don't know if the problem is related but all I get when I put a URL into IE8 is this message. Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage I don't so much mind that, I just really need to get my visual studio axWebBrowser working.

• Visual Studio Pre build events and batch set

  Hi, I'm trying to create call a batch file which sets a bunch of environment variables prior to building. The batch file looks something like this (it's automatically generated before-hand to detect ATI Stream SDK or NVidia CUDA toolkit): set OCL_LIBS_X86="%ATISTREAMSDKROOT%libs\x86" set OCL_LIBS_X64="%ATISTREAMSDKROOT%libs\x86_64" set OCL_INCLUDE="%ATISTREAMSDKROOT%include" However, the rest of the build doesn't seem to have access to these variables, so when I try to reference $(OCL_INCLUDE) in the C/C++GeneralAdditional include directories, it will first give me warning that environment variable $(OCL_INCLUDE) was not found, and when I try to include CL/cl.hpp the compile will fail with: fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'CL/cl.hpp': No such file or directory I know that I could put these variables into the registry if I wanted to access them from the visual studio GUI, but I would really prefer not to do this. Is there a way to to get these environment variables to stick after the pre-build events? I can't reference $(ATISTREAMSDKROOT) directly because the project must be able to build for both ATI Stream and NVidia Cuda.

• Why does my custom component raise AVs in the IDE?

  I'm trying to write a simple component that will allow you to embed one or more SDL rendering surfaces on a Delphi window, using the SDL 1.3 APIs. It will compile and install just fine, but when I try to use the component in the form designer, it raises AVs whenever I try to access its properties in the object inspector, save the form, or delete the component, and placing one on a form then trying to run gives a linker error: it apparently can't read the DFM properly for whatever reason. The DLL can be found at http://www.libsdl.org/tmp/SDL-1.3-dll.zip and the source code to my component can be downloaded here. SDL.pas is a JEDI-SDL header file; the rest is my own code. I don't see any reason for this to raise AVs in the form designer. If I dynamically create the control at runtime I don't have any stability issues. Can anyone take a look at this and maybe provide some feedback that might help me clear it up?

  I'm trying to implement shoulda unit tests on a rails 2.3.5 app using mongomapper. So far I've: Configured a rails app that uses mongomapper (the app works) Added shoulda to my gems, and installed it with rake gems:install Added config.frameworks -= [ :active_record, :active_resource ] to config/environment.rb so ActiveRecord isn't used. My models look like this: class Account include MongoMapper::Document key :name, String, :required => true key :description, String key :company_id, ObjectId key :_type, String belongs_to :company many :operations end My test for that model is this one: class AccountTest < Test::Unit::TestCase should_belong_to :company should_have_many :operations should_validate_presence_of :name end It fails on the first should_belong_to: ./test/unit/account_test.rb:3: undefined method `should_belong_to' for AccountTest:Class (NoMethodError) Any ideas why this doesn't work? Should I try something different from shoulda? I must point out that this is the first time I try to use shoulda, and I'm pretty new to testing itself.

• Paver 0.8.1 compatibility with python 2.6

  Hi, Does anyone manage to bootstrap its development area using paver with python 2.6 ? I have install python 2.6, install paver with easy_install-2.6, everything looks fine. But when I try to launch the bootstrap method it raises an urllib2.HTTPError (: HTTP Error 404: Not Found) while trying to download http://pypi.python.org/packages/2.6/s/setuptools/setuptools-0.6c8-py2.6.egg. I have tryed to add the correct setuptools EGG file (which is 0.6c9) in the support-files directory, bootstrap.py find the EGG file, but doesn't seem to use it because it still try to download the 0.6c8 version which is no more available.   I created a new Azure Website, using Umbraco as the CMS. I got a page up and going, and I already have a .co.nz domain with www.domains4less.com. There's a whole lot of stuff on the internet about pointing URLs to Azure, but that seems to be more of a redirection service than anything (i.e. my URLs still use azurewebsites.net once I land on my site). Has anybody had any luck getting it to go? • c++ exceptions and program execution logic

  Hello everyone, I have been thru a few questions but did not find an answer. I wonder how should the exception handling be implemented in a C++ software so it is centralized and it is tracking the software progress? For example, I want to process exceptions at four stages of the program and know that exception happened at that specific stage: 1. Initialization 2. Script processing 3. Computation 4. Wrap-up. At this point, I tried this: int main (...) { ... // start logging system try { ... } catch (exception &e) { cerr << "Error: " << e.what() << endl; cerr << "Could not start the logging system. Application terminated!\n"; return -1; } catch(...) { cerr << "Unknown error occured.\n"; cerr << "Could not start the logging system. Application terminated!\n"; return -2; } // open script file and acquire data try { ... } catch (exception &e) { cerr << "Error: " << e.what() << endl; cerr << "Could not acquire input parameters. • using extends with Java Generics

  Lets say that I have the following code: public class Shelter<A extends Animal, B extends Animal> { List<A> topFloor = new Vector<A>(); List<B> bottomFloor = new Vector<B>(); public A getFirstTopFloorAnimal(){return topFloor.firstElement();} public B getFirstBottomFloorAnimal(){return bottomFloor.firstElement();} //This compiles but when I try to use it, it only returns objects public List<Animal> getAnimals() { Vector a = new Vector(topFloor); a.addAll(bottomFloor); return a; } } Now for somereason the following code compiles. But when I try to use getAnimals() I get a of objects instead of Animal. Any ideas why this is? Does this have to do with the List is NOT a List idea in the Generics tutorial? Thank you.
