I personally think I should go for web services SOAP, XML etc. thanks to all for response I also want to know if I can only move to webservices ex. I am trying to convert this into a DataSet, but when I do ds.ReadXml(xmlFile), then it creates two columns: label and value.     I am developing a 2D shmup (i.e. Aero Fighters) and I was wondering what are the various ways to store a level. Assuming that enemies are defined in their own xml file, how would you define when an enemy spawns in the level? Would it be based on time? Updates? Distance? Currently I do this based on "level time" (the amount of time the level is running - pausing doesn't update the time). The type is defined in EnemyType while SpawnTime is the "level time" this wave should appear. NumberOfSpawns and SpawnOffset is the number of enemies that will show up and the time it takes between each spawn respectively. This could be a good idea or there could be better ones out there. I'm not sure. I would like to see some opinions and ideas. I have two problems with this: spawning an enemy correctly and creating a level editor. The level editor thing is an entirely different problem (which I will probably post in the future :P). As for spawning correctly, the problem lies in the fact that I have a variable update time and so I need to make sure I don't miss an enemy spawn because the spawn offset is too small, or because the update took a little more time. I kinda fixed it for the most part, but it seems to me that the problem is with how I store the level. So, any ideas? Comments? Thank you in advance.

  • would it be bad to put <span> tags within the <head>, for grouping meta data in schema.org format?

    Alright, I'm currently practicing schema.org microdata, and trying to find the best route for every site I build. I have found that i can piggyback itemprops on open graph meta tags. I would like to piggyback more itemprops on opengraph meta tags. However, schema.org requires you to change itemtypes to define all aspects of a "thing". Say I'm defining a LocalBusiness. Open graph has street address, locality, and region i'd like to piggyback on. I'd have to do something like: <html lang="en" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/LocalBusiness"> <head> ... <meta itemprop="name" content="Business Name" /> <meta property="og:url" itemprop="url" content="http://example.com" /> <meta property="og:image" itemprop="image" content="http://example.com/logo.png" /> <span itemprop="address" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/PostalAddress"> <meta property="og:street-address" itemprop="streetAddress" content="1234 Amazing Rd." /> <meta property="og:locality" itemprop="addressLocality" content="Greenfield" /> <meta property="og:region" itemprop="addressRegion" content="IN" /> </span> </head> Although there's more that can be added in, this is enough of an example to show what I'm trying to achieve. I've searched the web to see if it is an issue to use spans in the head or not, because I don't want invalid markup. I know I can mark up the address information in the body of the pages, but the route above would be more efficient. Does anyone have an answer for this?

  • Special characters from MySQL database (e.g. curly apostrophes) are mangling my XML

    I have a MySQL database of newspaper articles. There's a volume table, an issue table, and an article table. I have a PHP file that generates a property list that is then pulled in and read by an iPhone app. The plist holds each article as a dictionary inside each issue, and each issue as a dictionary inside each volume. The plist doesn't actually hold the whole article -- just a title and URL. Some article titles contain special characters, like curly apostrophes. Looking at the generated XML plist, whenever it hits a special character, it unpredictably gobbles up a whole bunch of text, leaving the XML mangled and unreadable. (...in Chrome, anyway, and I'm guessing on the iPhone. Firefox actually handles it pretty well, showing a white ? in a black diamond in place of any special characters and not gobbling anything.)     Guys, I have a set of tables (say Account, Customer) in a schema (say dbo) and I have some other tables (say Order, OrderItem) in another schema (say inventory). There's a relationship between the Order table and the Customer table. I want to delete all the relationships between the tables in the first schema (dbo) and the tables in the second schema (inventory), without deleting the relationships between tables inside the same schema. Is that possible? Any help appreciated.

    In C# / .NET 2.0, when I serialize an object using XmlSerializer, what's the easiest way to validate the output against an XML schema? The problem is that it is all too easy to write invalid XML with the XmlSerializer, and I can't find a way to validate the XML that does not look cumbersome. Ideally I would expect to set the schema in the XmlSerializer or to have a XmlWriter that validates.

If I put, near the footer: header("Content-Type: text/xml"); echo '<rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">'; echo $xml_generator->asXML(); ?> Then it sort of looks right in firefox and it doesn't complain about undefined namespaces anymore, but feedvalidator complains that line 1, column 77: XML parsing error: :1:77: xml declaration not at start of external entity [help] because the document now starts: <rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0"><?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> and not <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0"> Thank you in advance.

    I have a schema that includes tables like the following (pseudo schema): TABLE ItemCollection { ItemCollectionId ...etc... } TABLE Item { ItemId, ItemCollectionId, ContributorId } I need to aggregate the number of distinct contributors per ItemCollectionId. This is possible with a query like: SELECT ItemCollectionId, COUNT(DISTINCT ContributorId) FROM Item GROUP BY ItemCollectionId I further want to pre-calculate this aggregation using an indexed (materialized) view. The DISTINCT prevents an index being placed on this view. Is there any way to reformulate this which will not violate SQL Server's indexed view constraints?

  • how to populate the tables within xmlDataDocument.DataSet

    Hi all: I am working on a C# application that involves using XML schema file as databases for message definitions and XML file as databases for message data. I was following the example I found:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.xml.xmldatadocument.dataset%28v=VS.100%29.aspx I wrote my own xsd and XML file. I used the same approach in the example, read the xsd file and then load the xml file. But I don't have any "Rows" created for my DataTable. I used debugger to step through my codes. When I am get my DataTable use xmlDataDocument.DataSet.Tables["name of the table"], the Rows property of that tables is 0. Does anybody know what might cause the DataSet tables not get populated after I loaded the xmlDataDocument with XML file?
