    So I'm building a blackberry app and was wondering if there is any good documentation on deployment/release best practices? Blackberry's "A70 – How to Deploy and Distribute Applications" document is kind of lacking. I guess I'm looking for answers for the following question (Specifically for Over-The-Air aka OTA): I'm building an app for OS 4.5 and up. Do I need to compile a separate COD/JAD for each version? (i.e. 4.5, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.7, and 5.0) How do I detect OS version from the user-agent? What's the best way to compile COD/JAD files? anything else that might be good to know :) Thanks in advance!

  • Gson module not found Blackberry Java application

    Hi. I'm developing a simple application for Blackberry and i'm using Google's gson to retrieve some data from a server. The UI was working fine but when I added the gson part it started failing, it wont run. When I run the application in the simulator it show this error: "Uncaught: RuntimeException" on that annoying white screen of death and after holding the click button I can see that there is an alert dialog that says "Module 'gson-1.4' not found". However I did added "gson-1.4.jar" in the Project's Properties - Java Build Path - Add External JARs... also, the Gson objects are recognized at my code, no syntax errors at my code. BTW, I'm using Eclipse and the most recent Blackberry SDK Please help

  • Blackberry: Simulator stuck up launching through JDE 5.x

    Hi, When i try to build my project in Blackberry JDE 5.0.0.25. It built successfully. And then when i click on Debug menu "Go" button, simulator is launching and stuck up lanching itself forever, does't come up the simulator screen normally and visible with apps showing. When i built the same project in Blackberry JDE 4.7, it built successfully and then click on "Go", launched the simulator normally and showed the app to play with it. Could someone guide me what should be problem? Do i need to set any settings specific to BB JDE 5.x? I have just the basic hello world empty screen in my project, so don't provide any code here. Thanks.

    Hi All, I am very new to Blackberry development. I am trying to access the Blackberry Events (Calender) list. Currently, I am able to read the basic information from the event list. I am stuck in getting the info regarding the RepeatRule.   • BlackBerry project version number

    I have a BlackBerry Java project in Eclipse. It has version number written down in four different spots: in the project properties, under "BlackBerry Project Settings/General" in the JAD file, under MIDlet-1 in the JAD file, under MIDlet-Version in the ALX file, under <version> And they seem uncorrelated. Changing either of these affects none of the rest. The third one is what the users sees during over-the-air setup and under Options/Advanced. Questions - why do we need all these? Are there contexts where numbers 1, 2, 4 come up? It's my understanding that the ALX is generated during compilation - where does the version # come from? Is there a way to learn at least one of those programmatically (without signing the app)?

    I'm having trouble locating BlackBerry techical specifications and their website is a mess. They also don't have a number that I can use to easily contact them. This isn't exactly a coding question, but what does the BlackBerry audio API look like, and where can I get technical specifications on audio? Specifically, I'm trying to find out more information on Audio-In, specifically, through the Mic-In on the 3.5 mm jack. Unfortunately, before I can proceed, I need to know such things like sampling rate, data width, etc. Direction to the right resource or if you know off of the top of your head is appreciated.

  • Blackberry wifi connection issue

    Hi all, I have a very strange issue with my blackberry application. My application first searches for a blackberry network ( ;interface=wifi , ;deviceside=true , ;deviceside=false" + ";ConnectionUID="+ myRecord.getUid() ) transport and after finding one, it uses it to connect the server application. The issue is that some of my web services consumed by the bb client applicaton does not work when the connection type is wifi. Example: I have a series of web services called one after the other, login , x , y ,z, and logout. The connection transport selected = WIFI Login and LogOfff works fine but x, y and z web services return me an error message. The same series of web services ( Login, x,y,z, Log Out,) works with other connection transports ( eg. ap2trans) . Please help me with this issue as connecting to wifi ( if available ) is important for the application. Pleaes provide even the smallest info in this regad. thanks in advance

  • Is it possible to implement a lightweight database using Blackberry Persistance options?

    First I would like to explain why I want to use alternate Blackberry Persistance options rather than a Blackberry database itself, say SQLite. The reason is that the application i'm designing, I want it to be used in all the previous versions of Blackberry rather than just the ones having OS 5.0 or greater. Now, coming back to the actual question, I have got a database that I want to replicate to be used in the Blackberry application. The database has 8 tables and each table has approximately 12 different columns. One of the table has 1000 rows. Now if I was to implement this DB for a Blackberry application , keeping in mind that it will work on all the versions of Blackberry, what would be the best way to implement it?

  • Blackberry browser problem

    Hi all, I have one site to test, when I run it with my BrowserFieldDemo (in JDE sample)m just display text site, but with the same link, run on Blackberry native browser, it displays properly, and have Zoom in function to zoom. I think the problem here is the size of my site, it's too large. I've tried some different sites and see that the result is same on two browsers, but with this test site, it's unexpected result. Anyone can suggest some solutions for me to fix it? Or explain for me how Blackberry browser can know to resize web page automatically (when it loads the large web page). Thank for any help,

    Hi, I am new to Blackberry Development.This is my first Question for you people. I am creating a search box for my project. But it looks like blackberry doesn't have an internal api for creating single line Edit field. I have created a Custom Field by extending BasciEditField overriding methods like layout, paint. In paint i am drawing a rectangle with getpreferred width and height. But the cursor is coming at default position (top-left) in Edit Field. Can any body tell me how i can draw it where my text is(i.e in middle of Edit Field by calling drwaText()). Thanks,

Well trying to use the jquery UI one, I can't get the input buttons to show up as stars.     I'm making html widget for websites. Let's say, it will display current stock indexes. In short, arbitrary website owner takes code snippet from me and includes it on his webpage http://website.com/index.html. When arbitrary user opens http://website.com/index.html, my code sends request to my server (provider.com), which performs necessary operations and returns information to user's browser. When response has arrived, user will see relevant stock value on http://website.com/index.html. In index.html service could be called like this <script type="text/javascript" src="provider.com/service.js"> </script> <div id="target_area"></div> <script type="text/javascript"> service.show("target_area", options); </script> Now, the problem is in the same origin policy: I can't just send ajax request from website.com to provided.com and return html to embed in client's webpage. I see several solutions, which I list below, but none quite satisfy me. I wonder, if you could suggest something, especially if you had some relevant experience. 1) iframe, plain and simple. Disadvantage: must have fixed dimensions + stupid scroll bars appearing in some browsers. Can be fixed with javascript, but all this browser-specific tinkering doesn't sound good to me. 2) JSONP. Problem: can't return whole chunk of html, must return only data. Then, on browser side, I'll have to use javascript to embed data into html snippet placed statically in index.html. Doesn't sound nice, because data format is not very simple and may even change later. 3) Use hidden iframe to do ajax requests. A bit tricky, but sounds like a way to go. Well, that's my thoughts on the subject. Are there any better ways? BTW, I tried to check some existing widgets too, but didn't find much useful information. All domain names used in this text are fictional and any resemblance is purely coincidental :)

    I want to build reusable widget. It should be ordinal composite of standard elements. What is the best approach. Below is the code sample which I use currently, however there might be something more elegant. Furthermore the sample below runs perfectly in runtime, but visual editor in Eclipse is throwing exceptions (which is not a problem for me at this time). Is there any recommended way of creating composites?
