  • dpkg stuck downloading font files

    - by Bob Bowles
I have been reinstalling Ubuntu 12.04. The install from USB works fine, and I could update everything OK, but when I got to re-installing my application software I hit a snag. One of the packages I tried to re-install was ttf-mscorefonts-installer. dpkg stalled during this setup, downloading a font file (it had tried to download it all night). I stopped dpkg, and attempted to re-start downloading something else, but it would not let me. The commands I typed are as follows: bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock This unlocks dpkg, but if I try to do something I get the following message (eg): bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo apt-get install synaptic E: dpgk was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem So, I did just that: bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a whereupon it started the previously failed download all over again. I went round the loop here a few times and each time after the configure command it re-started the failing download, but then I got this: bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a Setting up update-notifier-common (0.119ubuntu8.4) ... ttf-mscorefonts-installer: downloading http://downloads.sourceforge.net/corefonts/andale32.exe Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloader", line 234, in process_download_requests dest_file = urllib.urlretrieve(files[i])[0] File "/usr/lib/python2.7/urllib.py", line 93, in urlretrieve return _urlopener.retrieve(url, filename, reporthook, data) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/urllib.py", line 239, in retrieve fp = self.open(url, data) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/urllib.py", line 207, in open return getattr(self, name)(url) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/urllib.py", line 344, in open_http h.endheaders(data) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/httplib.py", line 954, in endheaders self._send_output(message_body) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/httplib.py", line 814, in _send_output self.send(msg) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/httplib.py", line 776, in send self.connect() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/httplib.py", line 757, in connect self.timeout, self.source_address) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/socket.py", line 553, in create_connection for res in getaddrinfo(host, port, 0, SOCK_STREAM): IOError: [Errno socket error] [Errno -2] Name or service not known Setting up ttf-mscorefonts-installer (3.4ubuntu3) ... bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo apt-get update E: Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable) E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/ bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo apt-get update E: Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable) E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/ The good news is that, once I sorted out the file locks, this seems to have permanently aborted the setup of the font package, so at least I can do something else with dpkg. That leaves two questions: 1) How could I have broken the loop without actually crashing out of dpkg? 2) How can I set up the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package in the future? Is this download really broken, or is it 'just' a bad Internet connection?

  • Problem serialising TextBuffer

    - by njallam
The following is supposed to serialise a TextArea's content to a string. The first two line complete fine, however I have problems from then onwards. page_content = subject_content.get_nth_page(pn) page_name = subject_content.get_tab_label(page_content).get_text() c_buffer = page_content.get_buffer() c_format = c_buffer.register_serialize_tagset() serial = c_buffer.serialize(c_format, c_buffer.get_start_iter(), c_buffer.get_end_iter()) The first error I get is: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/nja/notetaker/notetaker/NotetakerWindow.py", line 251, in on_btn_save_clicked self.save() File "/home/nja/notetaker/notetaker/NotetakerWindow.py", line 160, in save c_format = c_buffer.register_serialize_tagset() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gi/types.py", line 43, in function return info.invoke(*args, **kwargs) TypeError: register_serialize_tagset() takes exactly 2 arguments (1 given) When inserting None as a parameter to c_format = c_buffer.register_serialize_tagset() I get the following as well: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/nja/notetaker/notetaker/NotetakerWindow.py", line 251, in on_btn_save_clicked self.save() File "/home/nja/notetaker/notetaker/NotetakerWindow.py", line 161, in save serial = c_buffer.serialize(c_format, c_buffer.get_start_iter(), c_buffer.get_end_iter()) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gi/types.py", line 43, in function return info.invoke(*args, **kwargs) TypeError: serialize() takes exactly 5 arguments (4 given) I have no idea of a workaround for that, however I shouldn't have to fill None in that other function in the first place. What is happening here?

  • List repositories from multiple projects in Trac using mod_python

    - by Steffen Eriksen
Currently working on a customized webpage that shows the available projects I have in Trac (1.0.1). I am using mod_python to connect the trac interface. I found a standard page for this, but it didn't show listing of repositories. The page showed some variables to link to the different projects, but I can't find variables to the different repositories inside the projects. I have set up the webpage from reading this: http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracInterfaceCustomization (under Site Appearance) Short summary; editing ../conf.d/trac.conf: PythonOption TracEnvParentDir /parent/dir/of/projects PythonOption TracEnvIndexTemplate /path/to/template And making a template file I can edit at /path/to/template: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:py="http://genshi.edgewall.org/" xmlns:xi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XInclude"> <head> <title>Available Projects</title> </head> <body> <h1>Available Projects</h1> <ul> <dl> <li py:for="project in projects" py:choose=""> <a py:when="project.href" href="$project.href" title="$project.description">$project.name</a> ## <dd> WANT TO ADD CODE HERE! </dd> <py:otherwise> <small>$project.name: <em>Error</em> <br /> ($project.description)</small> </py:otherwise> </li> </dl> </ul> </body> </html> So... The code I want to add is something like: <dd py:for="repos in project.repository" py:choose=""> <a py:when="repos.href" href="$repos.href"> $repos.name</a> </dd> I can't figure out where to add the variables, or if there already exists some variables I can use. After searching through the files it seemed like main.py had something to do with the variables (/usr/local/Trac-1.0.1/trac/web/main.py), but at first look it didn't seem easy to just add more variables. Is there a simple way to find the rest of the variables ? And how hard is it to add more variables? Will it perhaps be easier to do this an alternative way ? All I need is to link to the repositories dynamically

  • How do I get ftype & assoc to match Windows Explorer?

    - by Gauthier
I changed the association to use upon launching a .py file, via Windows Explorer: Tools - Folders - File types. Then browse to .py. Change the association to Wordpad. Now when I type the name of a py file in the command line, Wordpad opens it. But assoc and ftype in the command line still return the following: C:\> assoc .py .py = Python.File C:\> ftype Python.File Python.File = "C:\Program\Python27\python.exe" "%1" %* How come the association is working, but assoc and ftype are not aware of it? I did restart the prompt. More info from my registry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.py = Python.File HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.py\Application = wordpad.exe HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.py\OpenWithProgids\Python.File = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.py\(Standard) = Python.File More registry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\python.exe\shell\open\command\(Standard) = "C:\Program\Python27\python.exe" "%1" %*` I suppose this is what is showing up in ftype Python.File. But it does not seem to get used. (I am doing this for testing, so I can eventually choose my default version of Python easily).

  • How to reduce celeryd memory consumption?

    - by Gringo Suave
I'm using celery 2.5.1 with django on a micro ec2 instance with 613mb memory and as such have to keep memory consumption down. Currently I'm using it only for the scheduler "celery beat" as a web interface to cron, though I hope to use it for more in the future. I've noticed it is the biggest consumer of memory on my micro machine even though I have configured the number of workers to one. I don't have many other options set in settings.py: import djcelery djcelery.setup_loader() BROKER_BACKEND = 'djkombu.transport.DatabaseTransport' CELERYBEAT_SCHEDULER = 'djcelery.schedulers.DatabaseScheduler' CELERY_RESULT_BACKEND = 'database' BROKER_POOL_LIMIT = 2 CELERYD_CONCURRENCY = 1 CELERY_DISABLE_RATE_LIMITS = True CELERYD_MAX_TASKS_PER_CHILD = 20 CELERYD_SOFT_TASK_TIME_LIMIT = 5 * 60 CELERYD_TASK_TIME_LIMIT = 6 * 60 Here's the details via top: PID USER NI CPU% VIRT SHR RES MEM% Command 1065 wuser 10 0.0 283M 4548 85m 14.3 python manage_prod.py celeryd --beat 1025 wuser 10 1.0 577M 6368 67m 11.2 python manage_prod.py celeryd --beat 1071 wuser 10 0.0 578M 2384 62m 10.6 python manage_prod.py celeryd --beat That's about 214mb of memory (and not much shared) to run a cron job occasionally. Have I done anything wrong, or can this be reduced about ten-fold somehow? ;) Update: here's my upstart config: description "Celery Daemon" start on (net-device-up and local-filesystems) stop on runlevel [016] nice 10 respawn respawn limit 5 10 chdir /home/wuser/wuser/ env CELERYD_OPTS=--concurrency=1 exec sudo -u wuser -H /usr/bin/python manage_prod.py celeryd --beat --concurrency=1 --loglevel info --logfile /var/tmp/celeryd.log Update 2: I notice there is one root process, one user child process, and two grandchildren from that. So I think it isn't a matter of duplicate startup. root 34580 1556 sudo -u wuser -H /usr/bin/python manage_prod.py celeryd wuser 577M 67548 +- python manage_prod.py celeryd --beat --concurrency=1 wuser 578M 63784 +- python manage_prod.py celeryd --beat --concurrency=1 wuser 271M 76260 +- python manage_prod.py celeryd --beat --concurrency=1

  • Could not import Django settings into Google App Engine

    - by gkelsall
Hello all you Google App Engine experts, I have used Django a little before but am new to Google App Engine and am trying to use it's development web server with Django for the first time. I don't know if this is relevent but I previously had Django 1.1 and Python 2.6 on my Windows XP and even though I have uninstalled Python 2.6 there is still a folder and entries in the registry. I have followed the instructions from Google but when I browse to the GAE developemnt web server it cannot find my settings (details below). Any hints gratefully received. • Python Wildcard Import Vs Named Import

    - by Dan
Ok, I have some rather odd behavior in one of my Projects and I'm hoping someone can tell me why. My file structure looks like this: MainApp.py res/ __init__.py elements/ __init__.py MainFrame.py Inside of MainFrame.py I've defined a class named RPMWindow which extends wx.Frame. In MainApp.py this works: from res.elements.MainFrame import * And this does not: from res.elements.MainFrame import RPMWindow I realize that the wild card import won't hurt anything, but I'm more interested in understanding why the named import is failing when the wild card succeeds.

  • Loading a PyML multiclass classifier... why isn't this working?

    - by Michael Aaron Safyan
This is a followup from "Save PyML.classifiers.multi.OneAgainstRest(SVM()) object?". I am using PyML for a computer vision project (pyimgattr), and have been having trouble storing/loading a multiclass classifier. When attempting to load one of the SVMs in a composite classifier, with loadSVM, I am getting: ValueError: invalid literal for float(): rest Note that this does not happen with the first classifier that I load, only with the second. What is causing this error, and what can I do to get around this so that I can properly load the classifier? Details To better understand the trouble I'm running into, you may want to look at pyimgattr.py (currently revision 11). I am invoking the program with "./pyimgattr.py train" which trains the classifier (invokes train on line 571, which trains the classifier with trainmulticlassclassifier on line 490 and saves it with storemulticlassclassifier on line 529), and then invoking the program with "./pyimgattr.py test" which loads the classifier in order to test it with the testing dataset (invokes test on line 628, which invokes loadmulticlassclassifier on line 549). The multiclass classifier consists of several one-against-rest SVMs which are saved individually. The loadmulticlassclassifier function loads these individually by calling loadSVM() on several different files. It is in this call to loadSVM (done indirectly in loadclassifier on line 517) that I get an error. The first of the one-against-rest classifiers loads successfully, but the second one does not. A transcript is as follows: $ ./pyimgattr.py test [INFO] pyimgattr -- Loading attributes from "classifiers/attributes.lst"... • Binary file email attachment problem

    - by Alan Harris-Reid
Hi there, Using Python 3.1.2 I am having a problem sending binary attachment files (jpeg, pdf, etc.) - MIMEText attachments work fine. The code in question is as follows... for file in self.attachments: part = MIMEBase('application', "octet-stream") part.set_payload(open(file,"rb").read()) encoders.encode_base64(part) part.add_header('Content-Disposition', 'attachment; filename="%s"' % file) msg.attach(part) # msg is an instance of MIMEMultipart() server = smtplib.SMTP(host, port) server.login(username, password) server.sendmail(from_addr, all_recipients, msg.as_string()) However, way down in the calling-stack (see traceback below), it looks as though msg.as_string() has received an attachment which creates a payload of 'bytes' type instead of string. Has anyone any idea what might be causing the problem? Any help would be appreciated. • Has anyone combined soap.py or suds with python-ntlm?

    - by Chris R
I'd like to replace an app's current (badly busted and crufty) cURL-based (cURL command-line based!) SOAP client with suds or soap.py. Trouble is, we have to contact an MS CRM service, and therefore must use NTLM. For a variety of reasons the NTLM proxy is a bit of a pain to use, so I'm looking into python-ntlm to provide that support. Can suds or soap.py be made to use this authentication method? If so, how? If not, any other suggestions would be fantastic.

Here's the problem: $ pip Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/bin/pip", line 9, in <module> load_entry_point('pip==1.4.1', 'console_scripts', 'pip')() File "/usr/local/lib/python3.4/dist-packages/setuptools-1.1.5-py3.4.egg /pkg_resources.py", line 357, in load_entry_point def get_entry_info(dist, group, name): File "/usr/local/lib/python3.4/dist-packages/setuptools-1.1.5-py3.4.egg/pkg_resources.py", line 2394, in load_entry_point break File "/usr/local/lib/python3.4/dist-packages/setuptools-1.1.5-py3.4.egg/pkg_resources.py", line 2108, in load name = some.module:some.attr [extra1,extra2] ImportError: No module named 'pip' $ which pip /usr/local/bin/pip $ python2.7 -m pip //here can be just python, btw Usage: /usr/bin/python2.7 -m pip <command> [options] //and so on... $ python3.4 -m pip /usr/bin/python3.4: No module named pip From the home/user/.pip/pip.log : Exception: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/pip/basecommand.py", line 122, in main status = self.run(options, args) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/pip/commands/install.py", line 283, in run requirement_set.install(install_options, global_options, root=options.root_path) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/pip/req.py", line 1431, in install requirement.uninstall(auto_confirm=True) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/pip/req.py", line 598, in uninstall paths_to_remove.remove(auto_confirm) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/pip/req.py", line 1836, in remove renames(path, new_path) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/pip/util.py", line 295, in renames shutil.move(old, new) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/shutil.py", line 303, in move os.unlink(src) OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/bin/pip' There's no /usr/bin/pip btw. How can I fix this issue to work with pip and python 3.4 normally? I am trying to use pycharm, but it's package manager also stucks in this problem. Thanks for attention!
