  • css position when resizing browser

    - by user478636
    When resizing the browser I noticed that all the elements get out of place and the website layout gets distorted. This also occurs on with low-resolution. Is this because I have used position:relative;? How can I make the page elements not move from their position when resizing. body{ background:url(../img/bg-silver.jpg) #F2F2F2; font-family:"Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Grande", sans-serif; font-size:11px; line-height:18px; color:#636363; margin-top:10%; } #containerHolder { background: #eee; padding: 5px; position:relative; } #container { background: #fff; background:rgba(245,245,245,0.8); border: 1px solid #ddd; } #main { margin: 0 0 0 20px; padding: 0 19px 0 0; }

  • CSS compilers and converting IE hacks to conditional css

    - by xckpd7
    Skip to bottom for question, but first, a little context. So I have been looking into CSS compilers (like Sass & Less) for a while, and have been really interested in them, not because they help me understand anything easier (I've been doing css for a couple of years now) but rather they cut down on cruft and help me see things easier. I recently have been looking into reliably implementing inline-block (and clearfix), which require lots of extraneous code & hacks. Now according to all the authorities in the field, I shouldn't put IE hacks in the same page I do my CSS in, I should make them conditional. But for me that is a really big hassle to go through and manage all this additional code, which is why I really like things like Less. Instead of applying unsemantic classes, you specify a mixin and apply it once, and you're all set. So I guess I got a little of the track (I wanted to explain my points) but bascially, I'm at the point where these CSS compilers are very useful for me, and allow me to abstract a lot of the cruft away, and reliably apply them once and then just compile it. I would like to have a way to be able to compile IE specific styles into their own conditional files (ala Less / Sass) so I don't have to deal with managing 2 files for no reason. Does anything like a script/applcation that runs and can make underscore / star hacks apart of their own file exist?

  • How can I center a CSS background image as if the image had a different width (without cutting the bgimg off)?

    - by henrymb67
    I'm attempting to add a bookmarklet to my wop website. The issue is that I would like to have the bookmarklet (highlighted in red in the picture below) centered as if it did not have the arrow sticking out the side. If I change the width of the bgimage in the css, to be the same as the below indented box thingies, it centers how I would like it to. But, it cuts off a bit of the arrow. So, my question is, how can I center the bookmarklet as if it had the width of the other indented box thingies. bookmarklet CSS: #bookmarklet { background-image:url('images/bookmarklet.png'); width:425px; height:175px; background-repeat: no-repeat; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-bottom:8px; } I want the bookmarklet to be centered as if it were(without cutting out the side of the arrow): #resultbg { background-image:url('images/resultbg.png'); width:404px; height:347px; background-repeat: no-repeat; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-top:8px; } Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you(:

  • CSS vertical centering split background image not overlapping

    - by user295292
    is it possible to split 2 images vertically and when resizing the browser, it wont overlap but stay vertically centered? can the left image stay fixed so the right side of it won't cut off(overlap) this is what i have now, but when resizing the browser smaller, it pushes the left image underneath the right. rather have the images cut off on the outer sides and never overlap each other in the middle, make sense? #wrapper { width:1680px; max-width:1680px; height:500px; margin: 0 auto; } #left-image { width: 50%; position:absolute; left: auto; height:500px; } #right-image { width: 50%; position:absolute; right: 0px; height:500px; }

  • set installer background / not able to run early_command in custom preseed file (precise)

    - by user73093
    I have a custom preseed file for a Precise Live CD (which is well loaded on boot, I checked syslog for that). My initial problem is that when booting in install mode (default behavior for a Live CD), ubiquity runs X with a default wallpaper which is hardcoded to /usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png in Ubiquity code. So my idea was to run early_command (https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/installation-guide/i386/preseed-advanced.html) to copy my custom wallpaper over /usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png. Assuming my custom wallpaper allready resides on the rootfs in /usr/share/backgrounds. But... It seems the early_command never runs (and I'm sure the preseed file is taken into account) Here is what I have added to my preseed file: d-i preseed/early_command string cp /usr/share/backgrounds/mywallpaper-defaults.jpg /usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png Even this one is never run: d-i preseed/early_command string /usr/bin/touch /tmp/testearly Thanks for helping !!

  • css: zoooming-out inside the browser moves rightmost floated div below other divs

    - by John Sonderson
    I am seeing something strange in both firefox and chrome when I increase the zoom level inside these browsers, although I see nothing wrong with my CSS... I am hoping someone on this group will be able to help. Here is the whole story: I have a right-floated top-level div containing three right-floated right. The three inner divs have all box-model measurements in pixels which add up to the width of the enclosing container. Everything looks fine when the browser size is 100%, but when I start making the browser smaller with CTRL+scrollwheel or CTRL+minus the rightmost margin shrinks down too fast and eventually becomes zero, forcing my rightmost floated inner div to fall down below the other two! I can't make sense out of this, almost seems like some integer division is being performed incorrectly in the browser code, but alas firefox and chrome both display the same result. Here is the example (just zoom out with CTRL-minus to see what I mean): Click Here to View What I Mean on Example Site Just to narrow things down a bit, the tags of interest are the following: div#mainContent div#contentLeft div#contentCenter div#contentRight I've searched stackoverflow for an answer and found the following posts which seem related to my question but was not able to apply them to the problem I am experiencing: http:// stackoverflow.com/questions/6955313/div-moves-incorrectly-on-browser-resize http:// stackoverflow.com/questions/18246882/divs-move-when-resizing-page http:// stackoverflow.com/questions/17637231/moving-an-image-when-browser-resizes http:// stackoverflow.com/questions/5316380/how-to-stop-divs-moving-when-the-browser-is-resized I've duplicated the html and css code below for your convenience: Here is the HTML: <!doctype html> <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title>Pinco</title> <link href="css/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <header> <div class="logo"> <a href="http://pinco.com"> <img class="logo" src="images/PincoLogo5.png" alt="Pinco" /> </a> </div> <div class="titolo"> <h1>Benvenuti!</h1> <h2>Siete arrivati al sito pinco.</h2> </div> <nav> <ul class="menu"> <li><a href="#">Menù Qui</a></li> <li><a href="#">Menù Quo</a></li> <li><a href="#">Menù Qua</a></li> </ul> </nav> </header> <div id="mainContent"> <div id="contentLeft"> <section> <article> <p> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. • Center Page Content Horizontally using Div with CSS

    - by Aamir Hasan
    Center your website content to create equal sized Space from  the left and right using css. Horizontally centered by setting its right and left margin widths to "auto". This is the preferred way to accomplish horizontal centering with CSS. Create a warpper div which will hold your content div and then give it a margin:auto attribute which will bring your warpper div into center of page.<html><head><title>Center Page Content Horizontally and Vertically using Div with CSS </title> <style type="text/css">body{background-color:#eaeaea;}  #wrapper {width: 777px;margin:auto}  #content{background-color:#00FF00;min-height:400px;}  </style>  </head>  <body>  <form id="form1" runat="server">  <div id="wrapper"> <div id="wrapper">  <div id="content">  Welcome to Studentacad.com  </div>  </div>  </form>  </body></html>

  • CSS help positioning divs inline

    - by JaPerk14
    I need help with a recurring problem that happens a lot. I want to create a header that consists of 3 sections which are positioned inline. I display them inline using the following css code: display: inline & float: leftThe problem is that when I resize my browser window the last div is pushed down and isn't displayed inline. I know it sounds like I'm being picky, but I don't want the design to distort as the visitor change's the monitor screen. I have provided the html and css code below that I am working with below. Hopefully I have explained this well enough. Thanks in advance. HTML <div class="masthead-wrapper"> &nbsp; </div> <div class="searchbar-wrapper"> &nbsp; </div> <div class="profile-menu-wrapper"> &nbsp; </div> CSS #Header { display: block; width: 100%; height: 80px; background: #C0C0C0; } .masthead-wrapper { display: inline; float: left; width: 200px; height: 80px; background: #3b5998; } .searchbar-wrapper { display: inline; float: left; width: 560px; height: 80px; background: #FF0000; } .profile-menu-wrapper { display: inline; float: left; width: 200px; height: 80px; background: #00FF00; }
