  • Completely remove user account and create another with same name in Windows 7

    Here's my question simply and then the details in case they help to get me an appropriate answer. Question: How can I completely and permanently delete a user account in Windows 7 so that I can create another one with the same user name without the computer name extension added, eg Jane Smith not Jane Smith.computer name? The details: I just did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. (My laptop crashed, I reinstalled Vista and restored backup files but things weren't working so I decided to just get Windows 7 since I had to start over anyway). I used Windows Easy Transfer to save just about everything, even customizing to include a user's appdata from Windows.old which was created when I reinstalled Vista -- not knowing that another windows.old file would be created with the installation of Windows 7. After installing Windows 7, I used Windows Easy Transfer to transfer the user file, appdata, to the new user account which I gave the same name (Jane Smith) in case having a different name would cause problems with reading files or something. Afterwards, I realized that I did not want ALL of that junk. So, I thought no problem, I'll just delete the user account I just created, nothing lost, and create another one this time transferring only the files I wanted (using the customize option in windows easy transfer). I wanted to keep the same user name, e.g. Jane Smith, so after I deleted the user account I checked the files, and I didn't see. It was late so I went to bed and the next morning I created a new user with that same name (Jane Smith). The files looked fine if I remember correctly. Meanwhile, I updated the computer and it restarted a couple times. As I was moving files to the "Jane Smith" user account file, things weren't working as they should. I was actually moving files to the deleted user account and that the current user account was named "Jane Smith.computer name" and that's where the files needed to go. I don't like this. It's too confusing. I want just "Jane Smith". How can I do this without just changing the user name (which doesn't change it in the file path etc)? I want the first one GONE. If I can't do this, is it a problem to create an account with another name and still transfer files to it without path or other problems? I hope this question makes sense and that someone can help me. Thank you in advance!

  • Easy management of multiple connections

    Hi, on a Windows 7 machine I need to switch back and forth two connections: the LAN connection (that works behind a proxy) and a wireless connection via a USB modem. This requires every time to activate / deactivate two connections in the manager and switch on / off the LAN settings. I don't think there is some way to keep two connections alive and specify which one to use based on the program, but my question is: is there a simple little utility that makes switching the connection one-click easy and fast?     I'm looking for a tool that allows me to easily re-wrap text (i.e. remove line breaks, but not paragraph breaks from a text selection or the current text field that is being edited), and that works at least with text fields in my browser (Chrome) and on Windows. Bonus points for anything that works outside the browser, and that works in-place (i.e. that doesn't require copy-pasting the text through a separate window or using something like http://www.textfixer.com/tools/remove-line-breaks.php) Browser extensions, GreaseMonkey scripts or applications that also work on Linux and/or Mac (or even better, that are multi-platform) are all welcomed.     First let me explain how I got to this situation. I run a Streaming Video Site. Videos are about 100-250MB in size at any given time there are 500 people on the site. So I guess that would make then static. Recently My site started getting really slow and the only way to fix it temporarily was to restart apache. Now there was no change in traffic that could have caused this. My site is not being attacked. My hosting company recomended to implement mpm_mod and suPHP. They did that by using Easy Apache in WHMS. Then everything was working fine but a little slow. I researched around and to my understanding that mpm will do that but be more table. I was told that installing FastCGI would speed things up just enough. Well that made everything worse. The site is slow and time's out. I used WHM and took off fastCGI but its still the same, it seems like everything i do as of now nothing changes. I even did a roll back on the htconfig file but that didn't work. I'm not sure how to fix this. and my hosting network guy wont be able to touch the problem until Tuesday. I have root access.

The Python version is correct here. But when I try to easy_install some modules. The system will install the modules with python version 2.6 which are not able be imported to Python 2.7. And of course I can not do the functions I need in my code.   • The suggested way to handle pip(easy_install) with homebrew?

    I know there are brew-gem and brew-pip but it is still really easy to get confused. Let's say my Mac OS X is 10.7.2. There are at least, as far as I know, 3 locations for Python modules (assume 2.7): /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/ /Library/Python/2.7/site-packages /usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/ (controlled within homebrew) For some Python modules, pip install them into 2, the so-called local/customized Python module location, and everything looks and works great. Ex, readline by *easy_install* (ipython suggested me to install readline by *easy_install* instead of pip) For some, it would try to install some miscellaneous files (ex, man, doc, ...) into system-wide location, which requires sudo! Ex, ipython insisted on installing man and doc into /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/share/, which violates permission issue and all I can do is to use sudo. For some Python modules installed by brew, they are symbolic linked to /usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/. Everything seems great except that you have to remember to add this location into PYTHONPATH. I am wondering any suggested and uniform way to handle those mass, or any explanation to make those stuff crystal clear.

Ideally it would be freeware or low cost, and easy to use for users who are not that technically savvy (below the level of someone who can generate reports and complicated queries in Access). Any tools I've seen so far (such as Crystal Reports) are either too expensive or too complicated to use for non-power users.

    What serial communication bus would you use in a automotive embedded system if your main selection criteria were: * Electrically robust * Slow speed (32 kb/s) * Easy to program * Easy to interface with microcontrollers It won't be transferring much data, but it will need to be transferred periodically at high speed (100 - 500 Hz). I find that RS-232 is just not reliable enough if you have noise in your ground line. CAN-bus seems interesting, but I have no experience with it. We are currently interested in a combination of AVR AT90CAN128 microcontrollers.

If you're familiar with AutoHotkey or AutoIT on Windows, then you know exactly the kind of features I need, with the level of complexity. Here's an explanation for those who don't speak AHK: ----Start of Explanation of Code ---- Asks user to input some text and stores it in varInput Runs notepad.exe Waits till window exists and is active Sends the contents of varInput as a series of keystrokes Sends keystrokes to go to File - Exit Waits till the "Save" window is active Sends some more keystrokes Shows a Message Box with some text and the contents of a variable Registers a hotkey, Win+N, which when pressed executes notepad.exe ----End of Explanation---- So as you can understand, the features are quite obvious: Ability to easily simulate keyboard and mouse functions, read input, process and display output, execute programs, manipulate windows, register hotkeys, etc.. all being done without requiring any #includes, unnecessary brackets, class declarations etc. In short: Simple. Now I've played around a bit with Perl and Python, but its definitely no AHK. They're great for more advanced stuff, but surely, there has to be some tool out there for easy GUI automation? PS: I've already tried running AHK with Wine but sending keystrokes and hotkeys don't work.
