• How to stop windows resizing when the monitor display channel is turned off / switched to different source

  Have a new 6870 ati radeon adapter with its drivers set to 1080p 60hz resolution hooked up to a 2008 47" high end Samsung HDMI based TV. However, when the tv is turned to a different hdmi input -(when I come back into windows) somehow Windows decides to resize all the open apps to a lower resolution - including some of the side docked hidden pop-outs. When it resizes those though - it just sticked the pop-outs in the middle of the screen and all the resized windows from the open applications in the top left corner - all of them stacked on top of each other and resized to the smaller resolution. The things that seem to be ok after returning are the icons on the desktop, the taskbar, and the sidebar. Anyone have any knowledge of 1) how this happens 2) why it happens 3) how to stop it from resizing the applications and some of the docked pop-outs (they are not really resized after returning - they are just stuck in the middle of the screen approximately where they would be if the right or bottom sidebar should be if the screen was resized to that lower resolution). My hypothesis is that upon losing HDMI signal - that Windows is told by something (driver, or windows itself) that the resolution to be without a signal being present (noting that HDMI signals and handshakes are two way on HDMI devices. If it loses the signal or the tv is switched to another device - then the display adapter must figure that out and tell Windows or figures it out and designs randomly to change the display size). Any and all help is most appreciated. I asked AMD/ATI - but they said they don't know why or how this is happening. I was hoping that maybe this is THE place that the super users truly go to - those that develop display adapter drivers, or that dive deeply into these areas of windows. If there is better sites or just competing sites - please advise - noting I have already written AMD/ATI. HP Response / Additions 4/7/2011 It is really nice to get your reply Shinrai. (BTW is it proper etiquette on these forums to have a discussion?) Yet 'only one issue' - I am using a single display in this case - so Windows doesn't move application windows to another desktop. Windows (or something) decides to shrink the desktop it currently has and resize all windows to the maximum size of the desktop. As such I would be glad if Windows would just keep the current size of the one desktop that is in operation. I also know that this does NOT happen on monitors connected with DVI. There I have had one and two monitors setup and it doesn't resize those screens at all when disconnecting monitors, turning them off, whatever... they stay solid - everything in place - to such an extent that if you forgot the other monitor is off - you will have troubles finding some windows without using one of the control app utilities. So if I could even get the HDMI handling by Windows (or the display driver) ( 1] which is doing this anyway the display driver or Windows - and 2] where is that other resolution size (1024x768) coming from - its not the smallest and its not the largest?) to be having like DVI - Life would be golden (for this aspect anyway). ** found others with same problem in this thread: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1507324 Thanks, HP

In this blog entry, I decided to build and configure the default properties file as indicated by the projects properties. To learn about the suggested file name and location, open the JDeveloper project properties (use a right mouse click on the project node in the Application Navigator and choose Project Properties. Select the Resource Bundle node to see the suggested name and location for the default message bundle. Note that this is the resource bundle that Oracle JDeveloper would automatically create when you assign a text resource to an ADF Faces component in a page. For the train stop display name, we need to create the message bundle manually as there is no context menu help available in Oracle JDeveloper. For this, use a right mouse click on the JDeveloper project and choose New | General | File from the menu and in the opened dialog. Specify the message bundle file name as the name looked up before in the project properties Resource Bundle option. Also, ensure that the file is saved in a directory structure that matches the package structure shown in the Resource Bundle dialog. For example, you would save the properties file in the View Project's src > adf > sample directory if the package structure was "adf.sample" (adf.sample.ViewControllerBundle). Edit the properties file and define key – values pairs for the train stop component. In the sample, such key value pairs are TrainStop1=Train Stop 1 TrainStop2=Train Stop 2 TrainStop3=Train Stop 3 Next, double click the faces-config.xml file and switch the opened editor to the Overview tab. Select the Application category and press the green plus icon next to the Resource Bundle section. Define the resource bundle Base Name as the package and properties file name, for example adf.sample.ViewControllerBundle Finally, define a variable name for the message bundle so the bundle can be accessed from Expression Language. For this blog example, the name is chosen as "messageBundle". <resource-bundle>   <base-name>adf.sample.ViewControllerBundle</base-name>   <var>messageBundle</var> </resource-bundle> Next, select the display-name element in the train stop node (similar to when creating the display name) and use the Property Inspector to change the static display string to an EL expression referencing the message bundle. For example: #{messageBundle.TrainStop1} At runtime, the train stops now show display names read from a message bundle (the properties file).

• Extended validation certificate not changing browser bar green in Firefox

  I'm having some problems with an Extended validation certificate on a site that isn't showing the green bar correctly in Firefox. Chrome and IE are working fine. When I load the page the bar appears for a few seconds and then disappears when the page has fully loaded. Someone mentioned it could be because of loading images over HTTPS, but I'm not sure how valid this case is. We have one image on the page that is loaded from another source over HTTPS, the rest of the images are stored in the file system on the server. FYI - its Windows Server 2008 and ASP.net UPDATE: Solved this problem - the style sheet was loading in a Google Font url using http, not https - changed it and now it's working.

• Disable internal display on Macbook Pro without closed lid mode?

  I have an early 2007 Macbook Pro running 10.5 that I've recently set up on a KVM with my primary desktop system. The problem I've run into is that I have a 20" 1680x1050 LCD, and OS X only provides options to mirror at the resolution of the built-in display or to span. Since the built-in display runs at 1440x900, this leads to running my LCD at non-native res and a fuzzy picture. There isn't any option that I can find to simply disable the built-in display entirely and run the external LCD at its native resolution. I am aware of closed lid mode, but the MBP was disassembled while in storage for about 6 months (took it apart to pull the HDD) and the cable to the touchpad, which controls the sleep sensor was damaged, meaning closed lid mode won't work. I've looked into replacing the cable, but the cheapest I've been able to find it is $75-100, and I'm trying not to invest any more money into this computer as it also has a completely dead battery and a few other minor problems. I've found the app SwitchResX which appears to allow you to do what I need, but it has a lot of functionality I don't need and a ~$20 registration charge attached to it. An odd set of circumstances, I'm aware, but I was hoping somebody might know of an OS hack that would let me just disable the internal display and be done with it. :)

• Extended display - nightmare

  I have been struggling for quite a while, and I hope one of you can shed some lights on my issue. I am using Xubuntu 13.10 (Ubuntu 12.04LTS behaves the same way, higher version wouldn't install, LinuxMint didn't install, Fedora didn't install). I am trying to set extend display for two dell monitors 1900x1200. It works great when in mirror mode, but I just cannot extend the display. Either one monitor goes to sleep and the other is unresponsive, or both work but are unusable. This is a link to the picture of my monitors in mirror mode This is link showing what happens after I try to extend the desktop I get the same results if I use aRandr or the built in configuration utility. I have an ATI Radeon X300 card. I cannot use proprietary Catalyst drivers (I would have to use the legacy ones, which would force me into using much older version of the OS). Extension is possible with Windows. I am hoping someone can come up with tweaks that would allow me to run an extended desktop. I truly love Xubuntu (and Ubuntu, unfortunately, Unity is a bit too heavy for my old PC, and I have to run in 2D mode, so 12.04 is as high as I can go). I have tried everything I could find online, but nothing worked thus far. I believe some configuration or something I am missing might work. Please, if you have any idea, do not hesitate.   this is my current hard disk status(Running linux Mint LIVE CD) i have- Ubuntu 12.04 on 206 GB partition at dev/sda1. dev/sda2 system reserved. Windows 7 on 90GB partition at dev/sda3 and linux swap in extended partition. what i want to do- I want to install Linux mint KDE on my system for that i want to create a new partition of 30GB(by shrinking the free space available at dev/sda1), i can't create that because i can create only 4 Primary partitions which are already there. so do i have to delete the Swap partition? and if i did how to force Mint KDE and Ubuntu 12.04 to use/share same swap space in new logical partition?

  Im using a dual monitor set-up a lot, but i have a problem. I need to forbid to clone the dektop, i want to use just the extended desktop feature. Can it be done somehow? It's a problem because, when is start my system with two monitor it starts automaticaly with cloned desktop. When i use the hotkey to switch beatween monitors the same problem occours. • sIFR 3 HTML text does not display, .sIFR-alternate causing problem

  It seems my sIFR 3 text does not show HTML text if the Flash text is not displayed. Here's one of the pages in question: http://www.jeremyschultz.com/client/orchardplace/website/beta/volunteer/ One person has reported not seeing anything when viewing this page, and I can recreate it by removing the Flash text with Firebug. Testing with Firebug also suggests the .sIFR-alternate class is what's causing this: when I remove it, the text shows up, and it disappears again when I restore it. I copied the original CSS and also tried applying a few new CSS rules to .sIFR-alternate but nothing has solved it. What do you think? Jeremy [email protected]

• QGrid display default "loading" message when updating a table / on custom update

  I have a case where I need to update a jqgrid based on some search criteria which the user selects. I can get the data to update , but I would want the loading message to show while the new data is being fetched. Can someone please let me know how to get that working ? • My Notebook can't reboot after reinstall new operating systems without display driver installed?

  I have a small problem when I reinstalled my notebook with Windows 7 or Windows XP home edition. the problem is I can't reboot my system if I didn't install display driver (ATI-Radeon). I can't reboot my system because of the restart's button on shut down menu disappear, thats mean the system cant be rebooting. And when I install display driver, the reboot button in shutdown menu will be appear, thats mean I cant access reboot menu. I just want to know, Why does it happen? Does the display driver have influence with the reboot process?

• Unable to wake display with remote

  I'm running an HTPC (xbmc) without a keyboard/mouse attached, running oneiric. After some indeterminate amount of time, sometime between 1 and 12 hours, the display goes to sleep. The computer itself is not sleeping, I can still SSH to it from another computer. The remote will not wake the display. The IR receiver is working, as irw will show me the remote key presses. The only way to get my display back is to restart the display manager, lightdm in this case. Does anybody know a way to keep the display from going to sleep? I don't really need any power management at all considering that it connects to my TV and when I want my display to go to sleep, I turn off my TV.

• Erratic display behaviour on 12.04 using an Asus Zenbook

  When I first plugged in my 23 inch monitor through the mini-VGA port, everything worked...both display were detected, and worked. On the second or third plug in, the internal display would turn off, and only the external display would work. When I try to 'detect monitor', I got "could not set the configuration for crtc 63" a few times. Now, when I plug in the external display, I get a screen full of orange color on the external display, and the laptop display turns off. The only way to get things back is to force turn off the laptop and restart. Unplugging/replugging monitor doesn't work, and seems like ubuntu crashes. Can anyone help?
