  • Facebook Like Box

    - by abelenky
I'm trying to add a Facebook "Like Box" to an existing website, as described here The Page I'm promoting works just fine in preview-box on that page. But when I copy/paste the code as shown to my website, it instead shows a fraction of an empty facebook page with only a partially visible error message. <iframe src="http://www.facebook.com/plugins/likebox.php?profile_id=SenRandyGordon&amp;width=260&amp;connections=10&amp;stream=true&amp;header=true" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:260px; height:px"></iframe> I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong, and I added "Like Box"'s in the past, before Facebook released their new API. Please help?

  • Retrieve a facebook page's type

    - by HectorMac
I am trying to display a list of pages similar to the facebook search results. Along with the page's name, I would like to display the page type. The page's type property (from the Pages.getInfo API call returns the rather unfriendly looking strings from this list: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Page_Types Is there any way to map these to or retrieve the actual type descriptions facebook uses for page types in the facebook search results? These are not only more presentable, but appear to be less granular (both good things for my purpose).

  • Upload a Photo to Facebook with REST API and Ruby

    - by Michael Waxman
It's much harder than you'd think: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Photos.upload The tricky part is how to create the MIME multi-part message in Rails, which Facebook requires. I'm also using a Ruby Facebook API gem (mini_fb) which signs my other requests, and in addition to having no idea how to set up the MIME multi-part, even if I did I'm not sure how to add in the required signature values with the gem. Please help!

  • Facebook XFBML Like Button incompatible with FeatureLoader script?

    - by retailevolved
Facebook gurus, I have been implementing the Facebook Like button for a number of clients lately. To enable the Like Button, the following script has to be run: <div id="fb-root"></div> <script> window.fbAsyncInit = function() { FB.init({appId: '<?php echo Mage::helper("evlike")->getLikeConfig("ev_facebook_app_id") ?>', xfbml: true}); }; (function() { var e = document.createElement('script'); e.async = true; e.src = document.location.protocol + '//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js'; document.getElementById('fb-root').appendChild(e); }()); </script> It seems that this is incompatible with the following include: <script src="http://static.ak.connect.facebook.com/js/api_lib/v0.4/FeatureLoader.js.php/en_US" type="text/javascript"></script> It would make sense as I believe that the FeatureLoader performs an initialization. Is this official now? I would ask in official Facebook forums but I get an error every time I attempt to do so...

  • Music meta missing from Facebook /home

    - by Peter Watts
When somebody shares a Spotify playlist, the attachment is missing from the Graph API. What is shown in Facebook: What is returned by the Graph API: { "id": "********_******", "from": { "name": "*****", "id": "*****" }, "message": "Refused's setlist from last night's secret show in Sweden...", "icon": "http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v85005/74/174829003346/app_2_174829003346_5511.gif", "actions": [ { "name": "Comment", "link": "http://www.facebook.com/*****/posts/*****" }, { "name": "Like", "link": "http://www.facebook.com/*****/posts/*****" }, { "name": "Get Spotify", "link": "http://www.spotify.com/redirect/download-social" } ], "type": "link", "application": { "name": "Spotify", "canvas_name": "get-spotify", "namespace": "get-spotify", "id": "174829003346" }, "created_time": "2012-03-01T22:24:28+0000", "updated_time": "2012-03-01T22:24:28+0000", "likes": { "data": [ { "name": "***** *****", "id": "*****" } ], "count": 1 }, "comments": { "count": 0 }, "is_published": true } There's absolutely no reference to an attachment, other than the fact the type is 'link' and the application is Spotify. If you want to test, Spotify's page (http://graph.facebook.com/spotify/feed) usually has a playlist or two embedded (and missing from Graph API). Also if you filter your home feed to just Spotify stories (http://graph.facebook.com/me/home?filter=app_174829003346), you'll get a bunch of useless stories without attachments (assuming your friends shared music recently) Anyone have any ideas how to access the playlist details, or is it unavailable to third party developers (if so, this is a very a bad user experience, because the story makes no sense without the attachment). I am able to fetch scrobbles without any trouble using the user_actions.listens. Also, if there is a recent activity story, e.g. "Peter listened to The Shins", I am able to get information about the band. The problem only happens on attachments.

  • Performing client-side OAuth authorized Twitter API calls versus server side, how much of a difference is there in terms of performance?

    - by Terence Ponce
I'm working on a Twitter application in Ruby on Rails. One of the biggest arguments that I have with other people on the project is the method of calling the Twitter API. Before, everything was done on the server: OAuth login, updating the user's Twitter data, and retrieving tweets. Retrieving tweets was the heaviest thing to do since we don't store the tweets in our database, so viewing the tweets means that we have to call the API every time. One of the people in the project suggested that we call the tweets through Javascript instead to lessen the load on the server. We used GET search, which, correct me if I'm wrong, will be removed when v1.0 becomes completely deprecated, but that really isn't a concern now. When the Twitter API has migrated completely to v1.1 (again, correct me if I'm wrong), every calls to the API must be authenticated, so we have to authenticate our Javascript requests to the API. As said here: We don't support or recommend performing OAuth directly through Javascript -- it's insecure and puts your application at risk. The only acceptable way to perform it is if you kept all keys and secrets server-side, computed the OAuth signatures and parameters server side, then issued the request client-side from the server-generated OAuth values. If we do exactly what Twitter suggests, the only difference between this and doing everything server-side is that our server won't have to contact the Twitter API anymore every time the user wants to view tweets. Here's how I would picture what's happening every time the user makes a request: If we do it through Javascript, it would be harder on my part because I would have to create the signatures manually for every request, but I will gladly do it if the boost in performance is worth all the trouble. Doing it through Ruby on Rails would be very easy since the Twitter gem does most of the grunt work already, so I'm really encouraging the other people in the project to agree with me. Is the difference in performance trivial or is it significant enough to switch to Javascript?

  • Facebook JS API: users_getInfo() inside ifUserConnected() deadlock.

    - by serg555
I am trying to put Facebook connect button on the site and once connected display connected username. But for some reason following code goes into some infinite loop during first connection, and then works fine unless I delete this app from my facebook profile which causes freezing again. Here is a code on FB connect button click: FB.Connect.requireSession(); Here is code directly on the page: <script src="http://static.ak.connect.facebook.com/js/api_lib/v0.4/FeatureLoader.js.php/en_US" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> FB.init("123", "/xd_receiver.htm"); FB.ensureInit(function() { FB.Connect.ifUserConnected(function() { FB.Facebook.apiClient.users_getInfo(new Array(FB.Connect.get_loggedInUser()),new Array("name"), function(user, exec) { console.log("logged in:"+user[0].name); }); }, function(){ console.log("guest"); }); }); </script> If I remove FB.Facebook.apiClient.users_getInfo() it works fine, but I need to get username somehow. Any tips? Thanks.

  • Facebook offline access step-by-step

    - by Ben
After searchinge litteraly 1 day on fb and google for an up-to-date and working way to do something seemingly simple: I am looking for a step-by-step explanation to get offline_access for a user for a facebook app and then using this (session key) to retrieve offline & not within a browser friends & profile data. Preferrably doing this in the Fb Java API. Thanks. And yes I did check the facebook wiki. Update: Anyone? this: http://www.facebook.com/authorize.php?api_key=<api-key>&v=1.0&ext_perm=offline_access gives me offline_Access, however how to retrieve the session_key? Why can't facebook just do simple documentation, I mean there are like 600 people working there? The seemingly same question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/617043/getting-offlineaccess-to-work-with-facebook Does not answer how to retrieve the session key Edit: I am still stuck with that. I guess nobody really tried such a batch access out yet...

  • Meta tag og:title inside Facebook Application is ignored

    - by Militaru
I have a Facebook Application with an iframe based canvas that contains a like button (also iframe), in the head of my iframe i've specified the standard meta tags (og:title, og:url, og:site_name) and they seem to work fine (the information is displayed correctly in the profile wall) except for the title. I've tested various links of the app with the Facebook URL Linter and the ug:title tag is ignored completly. Have any of you had any trouble with the open graph tags inside facebook applications? Any ideeas are apreciated, thanks.

  • Facebook Open Graph without a browser

    - by Hellnar
Hello, For a middleware system with internet (which works inside a set-top box) I want to develop a primitive Facebook interface where users can type their user-names and password, showing their latest notification, messages and other casual stuff on the TV screen by using the recent Facebook Graph API. This middleware program uses Java ME to run programs (such as this simple facebook app) and it can connect to internet however it doesn't have a real web browser. Without browser it can connect to any url to retrieve the JSON response however I am not sure how to achieve authentication without a real browser. Under this circumstances, is it possible Facebook authentication? If you think so, what approach would you suggest ? Thanks

  • How to check if people liked my Facebook FanPage

    - by user2372419
There are many questions and answers about this. But nowadays Facebook changes their Privacy. Any Application that request for user_likes permission must be review by Facebook before using. I've tried many times to explain to Facebook review team about my app, but they did not accept, because my application (a web game using HTML5 and JavaScript) require people like my fan page before play. So my question is: Is there any to bypass Facebook privacy? I have a Like Box on the same page as the game screen (where i need to check Like), so any solution (like: analyze DOM elements, capture screen can pass through image recognition) will fine.

  • Yahoo OAuth implementation has no way to work offline

    - by Khash
I need to download my Delicious bookmarks to a non-web application without constant user interaction. I'm using Delicious's V2 API (using oAuth) but the problem is it seems their access tokens expire after one hour. I don't have any issues with redirecting the user to Yahoo for a one time authorization, but what is described here (http://developer.yahoo.com/oauth/guide/oauth-refreshaccesstoken.html) means I would have to refresh my access tokens all the time before they expire when the user is away. Is this really the way they've done their oAuth implementation?

I'm attempting to use the new Graph API Facebook recently released, but I can't seem to get it to work correctly. I've gone through the steps, and after the /authorize call, I receive an access_token: access_token=109002049121898|nhKwSTJVPbUZ5JYyIH3opCBQMf8. When I attempt to use that token I get: { "error": { "type": "QueryParseException", "message": "An active access token must be used to query information about the current user." } } I'm stumped as too why... -AC

  • Huge difference between Facebook Ad Click figures and Apache log requests

    - by Gearóid
We're running a facebook ad campaign for our business but there seems to be a huge discrepancy between the number of clicks registered and the number of requests made with "facebook.com" in the HTTP referrer. The difference can be anything between 40-80 clicks/requests. I understand why the Google Analytics would be off and I understand that the figures shouldnt be exactly the same but surely if 100 people click the ad then I should be seeing at least 90 requests for the homepage with facebook.com as the referrer? Can anybody provide any insight into why this may be happening?

  • Facebook Connect with CodeIgniter login problems

    - by Alastair Dewar
Im having a problem using Facebook Connect on my latest website. Im running it using the CodeIgniter framework and Elliot Haughin's library (http://www.haughin.com/code/facebook/). Everything is setup okay, when the user goes to login, the request is sent to Facebook okay and returns with the code (which i presume identifies the session?). However, it doesnt seem to update the library, and after doing all this still thinks that the user is not logged in. It makes me think its a bug in the library itself, but I can't see anyone else with this problem. I have tried dumping the error log from the library but it doesnt find any problems. If someone could shed any light I would be so grateful!
