  • Need Help on a custom HTML Helper

    - by LeeHull
    I'm trying to create a custom HTML Helper to help simplify my masterpages menu, however it is not rendering on the HTML when I use it.. I'm thinking I will need to create a partial view, any ideas? I did this.. public static string CreateAdminMenuLink(this HtmlHelper helper, string caption, string link) { var lnk = TagBuilder("a"); lnk.SetInnerText(caption); lnk.MergeAttribute("href", target); return lnk.ToString(TagRenderMode.SelfClosing); } Now in my View, i have <% Html.CreateAdminMenuLink("Home", "~/Page/Home"); %> but when I look at the source, its empty.. tried adding <% using (Html.BeginForm()) % and it adds a form.. but the link still doesnt come up.. debugged and the string works when i look at the watch, but does not render.. Any ideas?

  • Helper functions & prototype methods to replace heavy frameworks?

    - by Rob
    All frameworks aside, what are some of the common helper functions/prototype methods you use on a daily basis? Please note I am not arguing against frameworks. I've simply found that the majority of what I do on a daily basis can, most often, be done with a few dozen Array, String and Element.prototype methods. With the addition of a few helper functions like $ (getElementsById) and $$$ (getElementsByClass), I am able to satisfy some of the core benefits, however basic, of a much heavier framework. If you were to collect a small library of basic methods and functions to replace the core functionality of some of the popular frameworks, what would they be?

  • Syntax to specify Namespace when using helper.RouteUrl

    - by B Z
    I am using Asp.Net MVC 2 - RC w/ Areas. I am receiving an ambigious controller name exception due to having same controller name in two different areas. I've read Phil Haack's post I can't figure out the syntax when trying to use UrlHelper (I have an extensions class). e.g. public static string MyAreaHome(this UrlHelper helper) { return helper.RouteUrl("ARoute", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index" }); } I've tried the obvious of adding namespace="mynamespace" but that didn't work, it just added the namespace to the url. Thanks for any help.

  • Rails - building an absolute url in a model's virtual attribute without url helper

    - by Nick
    I have a model that has paperclip attachments. The model might be used in multiple rails apps I need to return a full (non-relative) url to the attachment as part of a JSON API being consumed elsewhere. I'd like to abstract the paperclip aspect and have a simple virtual attribute like this: def thumbnail_url self.photo.url(:thumb) end This however only gives me the relative path. Since it's in the model I can't use the URL helper methods, right? What would be a good approach to prepending the application root url since I don't have helper support? I would like to avoid hardcoding something or adding code to the controller method that assembles my JSON. Thank you

  • Zend framework helper intellisense

    - by Nicky De Maeyer
    Not so much a programming problem, but more a productivity problem. We've got quite a few custom view and action helpers in our project. Working with around 7 programmers. Now when someone, creates a helper or if one would want to use a helper, it all goes through the brokers. This means we do not get intellisense for those helpers, which can be real time consuming, having to go look in the docs or the code files. This is ofcourse true for both build in and custom helpers. Does any1 share this pain? Does any1 have a solution for this?

  • Outputting an HTML entity character from a helper function

    - by morpheous
    I am using Symfony 1.3.2 on Ubuntu. I have written a little helper function (statsfoo) that prints out summary statistics about an item. I am using the helper function in my template like this: // In StatsHelper.php <?php function statsfoo($some_param) { return "<div class=\"sfoo\">&9830; the stats number for item is 42</div>" } //In showStatsSuccess.php <?php use_helper(Stats); <?php echo statsfoo($foobar, ESC_ENTITIES); I tried both ESC_ENTITIES and ESC_RAW. In both instances, the raw number (&9830) was displayed in the page. I want to display the diamond instead. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this?

  • Passing a JavaScript variable to a helper method

    - by Brendan Vogt
    I am using ASP.NET MVC 3 and the YUI library. I created my own helper method to redirect to an edit view by passing in the item's ID from the Model as such: window.location = '@Url.RouteUrl(Url.NewsEdit(@Model.NewsId))'; Now I am busy populating my YUI data table and would like to call my helper method like above, not sure if it is possible because I get the item's ID by JavaScript like: var formatActionLinks = function (oCell, oRecord, oColumn, oData) { var newsId = oRecord.getData('NewsId'); oCell.innerHTML = '<a href="/News/Edit/' + newsId + '">Edit</a>'; };

  • Assign multiple css classes to a table element in Rails

    - by Eric K
    I'm trying to style a table row using both cycle and a helper, like shown: <tr class= <%= cycle("list-line-odd #{row_class(item)}", "list-line-even #{row_class(item)}")%> > However, when I do this, the resulting HTML is: <tr class = "list-line-odd" lowest-price> with the return from the helper method not enclosed in the quotes, and therefore not recognized. Here's the helper I'm using: def row_class(item) if item.highest_price > 0 and item.lowest_price > 0 and item.highest_price != item.lowest_price if item.current_price >= item.highest_price "highest-price" elsif item.current_price <= item.lowest_price "lowest-price" end end end I must be missing something obvious, but I just can't figure out how to wrap both the result of cycle and the helper method return in the same set of quotes. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • helper function not found in view

    - by cbrulak
    I'm following the instructions at: http://agilewebdevelopment.com/plugins/acts_as_taggable_on_steroids to add the tag cloud to my view: in the controller: class PostController < ApplicationController def tag_cloud @tags = Post.tag_counts end end I also added the tag_cloud method as a helper method in the controller and in the view: <% tag_cloud @tags, %w(css1 css2 css3 css4) do |tag, css_class| %> (line 1) <%= link_to tag.name, { :action => :tag, :id => tag.name }, :class => css_class %> (line2) <% end %> (line 3) However: 1) if I don't add the helper_method :tag_cloud in the controller I get a undefined method error for tag_cloud 2) if I do add the helper method I get: wrong number of arguments (2 for 0) on the same line 1 of my sample code above. Suggestions?

  • CakePHP: Accessing the controller or model from a view helper

    - by tombazza
    I have a view helper that manages generating thumbnails for images. The images are stored using a unique ID and then linked to a file resource in the database. I am trying to find out if it is possible for the view helper that generates these images to access the model or controller directly, as it is not possible to load the image data at any other point in the controller work flow. I know this is a bit of a hack really, but it is easier than trying to rebuild the entire data management stack above the view.

  • Object model design: collections on classes

    - by Luke Puplett
    Hi all, Consider Train.Passengers, what type would you use for Passengers where passengers are not supposed to be added or removed by the consuming code? I'm using .NET Framework, so this discussion would suit .NET, but it could apply to a number of modern languages/frameworks. In the .NET Framework, the List is not supposed to be publicly exposed. There's Collection and ICollection and guidance, which I tend to agree with, is to return the closest concrete type down the inheritance tree, so that'd be Collection since it is already an ICollection. But Collection has read/write semantics and so possibly it should be a ReadOnlyCollection, but its arguably common sense not to alter the contents of a collection that you don't have intimate knowledge about so is it necessary? And it requires extra work internally and can be a pain with (de)serialization. At the extreme ends I could just return Person[] (since LINQ now provides much of the benefits that previously would have been afforded by a more specified collection) or even build a strongly-typed PersonCollection or ReadOnlyPersonCollection! What do you do? Thanks for your time. Luke

  • Using IComparable<T> Interface

    - by Pawan_Mishra
    Level : Beginner to Intermediate C# language has constantly evolved over a constant period of time.Each new version introduced new features which changed the way we programmed and solved the problems. Whether it was introduction of generics in C# 2.0 , LINQ in C# 3.0 or concept of dynamic programming in C# 4.0 , each of them had or will have greater impact on our programming style.As a developer we don’t have much option but to evolve and redefine our self in this constantly changing environment...(read more)

  • Changing CSS classes when different strings are displayed in a text element with jQuery

    - by Nick Maddren
    I'm just wondering if this method would be possible using jQuery HTML and PHP. Basically I have a filtering system were products are listed, some have different attribute values such as Hatchback for example. The text element that holds these PHP echo's also have a css class that implements an icon. I'm just wondering can I alter class's that are added to a html element just by looking at the string? So for example if the string displays "Pick-up" then jQuery alters the class and adds the one associated with the "Pick-up" string? Thanks sorry if this is a little confusing, I can explain more if needed.

  • how to double buffer in multiple classes with java

    - by kdavis8
    I am creating a Java 2D video game. I can load graphics just fine, but when it gets into double buffering I have issues. My source code package myPackage; import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.Image; import java.awt.Toolkit; import java.awt.image.BufferStrategy; import java.awt.image.BufferedImage; import javax.swing.JFrame; public class GameView extends JFrame { private BufferedImage backbuffer; private Graphics2D g2d; public GameView() { setBounds(0, 0, 500, 500); setVisible(true); setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); backbuffer = new BufferedImage(getHeight(), getWidth(), BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_BGR); g2d = backbuffer.createGraphics(); Toolkit tk = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit(); Image img = tk.getImage(this.getClass().getResource("cage.png")); g2d.setColor(Color.red); //g2d.drawString("Hello",100,100); g2d.drawImage(img, 100, 100, this); repaint(); } public static void main(String args[]) { new GameView(); } public void paint(Graphics g) { g2d = (Graphics2D)g; g2d.drawImage(backbuffer, 0, 0, this); } }

  • Is it appropriate for a class to only be a collection of information with no logic?

    - by qegal
    Say I have a class Person that has instance variables age, weight, and height, and another class Fruit that has instance variables sugarContent and texture. The Person class has no methods save setters and getters, while the Fruit class has both setters and getters and logic methods like calculateSweetness. Is the Fruit class the type of class that is better practice than the Person class. What I mean by this is that the Person class seems like it doesn't have much purpose; it exists solely to organize data, while the Fruit class organizes data and actually contains methods for logic.

  • Class Design and Structure Online Web Store

    - by Phorce
    I hope I have asked this in the right forum. Basically, we're designing an Online Store and I am designing the class structure for ordering a product and want some clarification on what I have so far: So a customer comes, selects their product, chooses the quantity and selects 'Purchase' (I am using the Facade Pattern - So subsystems execute when this action is performed). My class structure: < Order > < Product > <Customer > There is no inheritance, more Association < Order has < Product , < Customer has < Order . Does this structure look ok? I've noticed that I don't handle the "Quantity" separately, I was just going to add this into the "Product" class, but, do you think it should be a class of it's own? Hope someone can help.

  • Deserialize inherited classes into the same list in XNA

    - by M0rgenstern
    I am writing a Gui for a game (for what else ...). Therefor I wrote a class GuiElement which has some serializeable fields. From this class I deflect a Class "Button" which has one serializeable field more. Furthermore, I have a Class GuiWindow, which is as well deflected from "GuiElement". An Object of this Class has a Field "HandledElements" of the type "List". To know the layout of the Menues, I use XML-Files, which look like that (for example): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <XnaContent xmlns:Generic="System.Collections.Generic"> <Asset Type="System.Collections.Generic.List[GUI.GuiWindow]"> <Item> <Position>0 0</Position> <AlternativeImagePath></AlternativeImagePath> <IsActive>true</IsActive> <Name>MainMenu</Name> <HandledElements> <Item> <Position>100 100</Position> <AlternativeImagePath></AlternativeImagePath> <IsActive>true</IsActive> <Name>Optionen</Name> <Caption>Optionen</Caption> </Item> </HandledElements> </Item> <Item> <Position>0 0</Position> <AlternativeImagePath></AlternativeImagePath> <IsActive>false</IsActive> <Name>Options</Name> <HandledElements> </HandledElements> </Item> </Asset> </XnaContent> As you can see, the first window has in its "HandledElements" List an Item with the Field . This is a field which only a Button has. The Problem is now: I can't deserialize this XML file, because GuiElement does not have this Field, it only has the few fields above. I thought it would know automatically which Class to use,but it doesn't. Do I really have to give my windows a list for each child class of GuiElement? Or can I do another workaround?

  • Liskov substitution and abstract classes / strategy pattern

    - by Kolyunya
    I'm trying to follow LSP in practical programming. And I wonder if different constructors of subclasses violate it. It would be great to hear an explanation instead of just yes/no. Thanks much! P.S. If the answer is no, how do I make different strategies with different input without violating LSP? class IStrategy { public: virtual void use() = 0; }; class FooStrategy : public IStrategy { public: FooStrategy(A a, B b) { c = /* some operations with a, b */ } virtual void use() { std::cout << c; } private: C c; }; class BarStrategy : public IStrategy { public: BarStrategy(D d, E e) { f = /* some operations with d, e */ } virtual void use() { std::cout << f; } private: F f; };
