  I have a wordpress blog, that uses WP-SuperCache, and normally I get 100 visitors per day. With nginx + php-fpm it's blazing fast, and I have no regrets. • Software to Monitor the Stability of Internet Connection

  Thanks to the excellent internet connection service offered by one of the best ISP in the world, the internet connection in my area is very, very unstable. I can connect some of the time, but MOST of the time the connection will just drop off ( with the error message unable to resolve host) and after a few minutes, it will resume back. If I ping the domain name directly (i.e., ping www.google.com -t in cmd command), I will get a cannot ping message. Because of the flickery nature of the connection, it's pretty hard to prove to the support staff that internet connection is unstable. So I am thinking about using one software to record down the connection situation, so that I can present to the technical staff and make sure that they have no excuse not to fix my problem. Any such software available? Edit: Of course, such software should not record my browsing habit, and must be able to monitor and record the internet connection condition even when I am not online.

• taskmgr.exe 100% CPU Usage

  Hi. I have 2 IBM servers Intel Xeon Dual core with 2gb RAM. the problem is that Taskmanager uses one full core when i open it. The same happens when i copy files in the explorer. OS: Windows 2003 Server Things i tried: Installed all updates They has kaspersky anti virus and they previously had Nod32. All drivers installed OK. All unused devices are disabled in the bios. Reinstalled win 2003 SP2. No conflict in drivers Tried opening via remote desktop and the problem continues.   Why does a 32bit domU (Xen guest VM) use less RAM than a 64bit? Notes: The same software complied for a different arch(AMD64 vs. 686). Obviously this is Linux or BSD or something easily ported. Maybe this is also a good one for SO. I've read this is so. I can guess why, but I'd like to hear everyone's comments.

• Network / Internet diagnostic tool to locate an error?

  Hi, I’m facing some difficulties with the Internet / network at my work and I have trouble locating the precise error and when and how it occurs. The problem is that the client machines in the house sporadic is disconnected to the Internet. I’m some what new so I haven’t that much inside in the network and apparently neither has my predecessor. What I am requesting and hoping you guys knows about is, if there exist some kind of network monitor tool I can install and run and it will periodically check the network, the Internet connection etc. and record to logs. Then, if there suddenly arises a problem some time of the day in some part of the network or the Internet connection, I can check it perhaps the next day. I’ve just downloaded and installed Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3 application and hopeful it can give me some answers on where the instability is located but I still would like a tool to make different checks and test in some time interval. Do anyone know about such a program or another kind of performance / diagnostic tool / method I can use? Sincere Jesper

Suppose there are 2-4 splitters between the cable line coming into a building before the connection to a cable modem, does this negatively effect the latency, throughput, etc of a cable internet connection by any measurable amount? Is there a maximum number of times that a coaxial cable can be split into multiple internet and TV connections before QoS suffers?

• Windows 7 laptop constantly dropping internet connection

  I have scoured the web for an answer and failed to find one. I am using a Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows 7 64-Bit. I have the computer connected via Wifi. Now, I am no beginner with the Internet, or anything related to computers, as I have grown up teaching everyone around me how to use computers, and went to college for IT. Everything on my network works flawlessly at all times, except for this evil laptop. The worst part is that I fixed this once before a few years back and recently had to replace the hard drive and re-install the OS, but cannot for the life of me remember what I did to make this problem go away. I am in my browser, connected to the Internet. I click a link. Suddenly no internet access. All I do is click down on the WiFi connection in the task bar, disconnect and reconnect immediately. Internet is back the moment I hit "connect." I have read many people had the same issues as I am having, but they all had triggers or other network issues. I have no trigger (this happens literally five to six times per minute no matter what I am doing) and I have no problems with my router, modem, or any other devices or computers on said network. As I am a web designer, and like to test my work live at every turn- this is going to result in this laptop being in pieces if I can't get it fixed soon. If more info is needed, let me know and I will provide. Thanks for any help offered! EDIT: Network Card: Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC Network state reads as "No Internet Access" when the problem first occurs, then magically I have Internet access for about ten seconds once I disconnect and reconnect. I have turned off IPV6, I have turned off power saving options for the network adapter, no viruses. Any new ideas? Also, I had to disconnect and reconnect four times just to get to this edit screen- and will likely have to do the same just to post it- it's that bad.

  Is there any free software that will detect the status of internet and shutdown the system when the internet disconnects? Or (more generally) can something run a task when the internet disconnects, and I can route it to shutdown the machine? I am downloading things overnight. But my problem is that sometimes the internet connection will be disconnected in the middle of the night, so there is no point in keeping the system running the rest of the night. So I need to avoid this problem by detecting the net connectivity.

  I've installed a WiFi Adapter in my Windows XP PC and created an ad-hoc network. I am able to connect to the network through my iPod Touch. On the same PC I have a LAN connection to the Internet. I need to share this internet connection to my iPod too. The problem is Windows did not assign an IP Address (even though assign IP address automatically is selected) to this WiFi network. When I tried to share the Internet connection, I got a message that LAN Network Adapter's IP address will be changed to 192.168.1.1. But if this happens I will not be able to connect to other devices/servers in my LAN Network. How do I share the Internet connection through WiFi?

• Java works under Firefox but crashes Internet Explorer

  Java works under Firefox and Chrome but not under IE. Here's what I tried (the advice normally given on forums): Java applet activated in tools - internet options - security tab - personnalise - Java applets Activated in tools - manage add-ons - tool bars and extensions - Java (tm) SSV2 helper - Activate Activated in tools - internet options - advanced tab - Use JRE for applet I've also deleted my temporary internet files (with Ccleaner), Reinstalled IE8 It is also set as the default Java for IE through the control panel - Java - Advanced tab - default Java for browsers - Microsoft Internet Explorer IE version: 8.0.6001.18702 Java version: 1.7.0_03. (also tried with 1.6.0_31) Windows XP SP3. Any advice? Thanks :) edit: I have activated the ActiveX controls through manage add-ons - all add-ons but now, although the coffe cup loading screen appears (which did not before) it makes IE crash (which is new). I might have fiddled too much with the registry by trying to completely remove Java to reinstall it, so I ran "rereg" (a tool to repair dlls and their registry entries) without success.

  I am on Windows 7 and using Firefox browser. I am using WiFi, but since the morning I cannot access the Internet via the browsers (Firefox, Chrome, or IE). The laptop shows there is Internet connection, Skype is online, but I can't reach the Internet. Then I launched Tor application which creates secure channel and provides its Firefox browser. Well, I can now access the Internet over that browser. So, what might be the problem causing this malfunction?   Here is the configuration : Bugzilla (3.4.2) application running on a Ubuntu server 8.04 with Perl 5.8.8. Here is the problem : Sometimes (randomly), pages take very long to load. It can be any of the login page or query.cgi page or buglist.cgi... etc... Using top on the server, I tried to see what was wrong, and saw that sometimes a bugzilla script would use 30% memory and last pretty long (1 to 5 seconds) and sometimes not even show in the list because it responded too quickly or just use 2%. The mysqld process does not seems to be the problem.

• Internet Explorer not working after establishing a SSTP VPN connection

  I have a problem which is constantly appearing on each Windows 7 computer I'm using, whenever I establish a SSTP VPN connection to a ForeFront TMG 2010 firewall; it only happens with SSTP connections, not PPTP/L2TP ones. The problem appears only if using a proxy server for Internet access; it doesn't happen when directly accessing the Internet (with or without NAT). It doesn't seem to depend on a specific proxy software being used (I've seen it happening with various ones). The problem is: as soon as I start the VPN connection, Internet Explorer can't access anything anymore. I'm not using the VPN connection as a default gateway, and I can succesfully ping the proxy server after the VPN connection is esatablished (and even telnet to its 8080 TCP port), so this is definitely not a routing problem. Also, the problem is specifically related to Internet Explorer: while it seems not able to connect to any site, other programs (such as FireFox) have no problem accessing the Internet through the same proxy. This behaviour can be easily reproduced on any Windows 7 computer (the service pack and patch level doesn't seem to matter at all). Have IE connect through a proxy, establish a SSTP VPN connection... and IE will just not work anymore until the VPN connection is dropped.

• How to debug high memory usage by registry?

  I have a windows 2008 r2 server running ADFS2 and some web apps that is having issues with low memory. Digging around I found that the 5.5 GB were being used under Kernel Memory (paged). Further digging with Poolmon, I discovered that the majority of that (5GB+) was being used by CM - configuration manager. Also known as the registry. I'm really now sure how to tell why the registry is using so much memory however, or how to release it? Looking at the physical registry files they don't appear that large. • Looking for internet traffic manager software for Windows 7

  I have 128 KB/s (1 Mbit/s) internet connection. Not quite fast for downloading big files, but it is okay for internet browsing. When I start big file dowload, I cannot surf the web normally: pages appears slowly, especially pictures there. Therefore I pause downloading, but I'm regularly spending much time on reading articles or leaving the computer alone, when I can allow the file being dowloaded. Is there any software that can automize the process of pausing and resuming download or simply automatically regulate internet speed for each application using Internet? I download files using different software and protocols (Download Master for http, ftp; uTorrent for torrents; many other programs for updating themselves), so I don't want to be tied to particular program for downloading.

• Disable/configure Back and Forward through mouse wheel in Internet Explorer

  I have a problem with Internet Explorer (version 7 on Windows XP). Sometimes (not always) when you use the mouse wheel to scroll a page up/down it instead chooses to go back or forth in the web browsing history. This behavior is the same as when you hold the shift-key simultaneously using the wheel. My guess is that Internet Explorer somehow gets misled by something and thinks that I'm actually pressing shift. This is in turn maybe an artifact of the fact that this particular session is a remote-desktop session originating from Linux (Ubuntu). Needless to say the problem can be quite irritating and the alternative of completely turning off the wheel functionality doesn't seem like an option as other applications would suffer greatly from this. Anyway back to my question(s): Is it possible to map the shift+wheel to a simple wheel event for Internet Explorer? Is it possible to disable the shift+wheel event for Internet Explorer? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
