    I've just downloaded LibreOffice 4.1.3 (twice) on a newly refurbished Windows 7 Thinkpad. When I click the .msi to install, I get "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package" How do I obtain a usable copy of LibreOffice for Windows? I also tried 4.1.2 and 4.0.6 also, after 4.1.3 failed. 4.1.2 started fine, but encountered an error and failed to install. 4.0.6 fails in the same way as 4.1.3. I have used 7-zip to test the 4.1.3 msi, and it is unable to open it ...

    At the moment I am running a Windows Terminal Server 2008 for around 10 clients that use the server to run programs and access data. Is there anyway to separate the resources of each user so that they do not impact each other in terms of resources. User 1: Opens program User 2: Notices slow down I have looked into using Windows System Resource Manager but do not know if it provides what I need and if there are any other 3rd party tools that also provide this functionality.   • E-mail addresses with plus sign in MS Exchange

    Many users like to use e-mail address in the format "[user]+[tag]@[domain]" to facilitate local filtering of incoming messages. The semantics of that is that the message should be delivered to the mailbox belonging to "user"; the user would advertise his/her address with different tags to different potential senders and would then be able to filter incoming messages according to sender (and also to track who got the e-mail address from where). The question is: is it possible to get MS Exchange (2007) to deliver messages in this format properly? If so, how exactly? Internet searches seem to imply it is not a possibility...

    I am currently running a linux bridge in the following configuration ADSL Modem: 192.168.1.1 Linux Bridge: eth0: 192.168.1.2 eth1: no address Wireless Router: 192.168.0.1 My issue is that i cannot access the "Linux Bridge" shares using the WINS name of the server via client systems (yes i understand it is a transparent bridge but i can access it via the 192.168.1.2 address this is not on the same subnet as the client systems). This is the global section of my SMB.CONF [global] unix extensions = off os level = 20 netbios name = server guest account = nobody server string = 447 Server security = share #unix extensions = no #wins support = yes #wins server = 192.168.0.1 name resolve order = wins lmhosts hosts bcast interfaces bridge1 eth0 eth1 lo bind interfaces only = yes Can i access a bridged server using it's WINS name to access samba shares?   • Failed to re-publish a page - Tridion 2011 SP1

    We are getting some strange error when re-publishing the same page. The page was published successfully the first time and we can see the page from presentation server. It failed with the following error (see below) when we tried to publish it again (no change to page). The page ran OK within template builder and we got the correct html output, it failed in the last committing deployment step (Prepare Transport, Transporting, Preparing Deployment and Deploying are all successful). Once it fails to publish the second time, it always fails to publish, and we can't un-publish it either. Also when we make a copy of the failed page and create a new page, we can publish the new page first time, the new page then fails to publush the second time with the same error. Does anyone know what would cause this error? any help would be greatly appreciated.   • Active Directory - Using GPO To Update Multiple Versions Of .NET

    OK, I have searched everywhere for this one. I have all the MSI's and packages I need to deploy .Net 3.5 SP1, and 2.0 and 3.0 (which are prerequisites for 3.5). I can't figure out how to install all of them at once via GPO. Basically, the computers on the network do NOT have any version of .Net installed, and I need them to be at 3.5 SP1. I know I can deploy each version via GPO, force reboot the client, then push the next one, force reboot, and so on. Is there a way to streamline install all 3 at once via GPO? Thanks

  • I would like to have a publicly accessable linux box hosted elsewhere. Who provides this service?

    I would like to have a general purpose linux server available and publicly accessible. I understand that there are no lack of web-hosting companies, but I might want more control over the machine than is typical. I would want the ability to install software, such as an SVN server, and I would like to be able to expose various port numbers, as I may have a variety of extremely low traffic sites that I would want to have available. Obviously, one option is to host such a machine in my home. Is that my only option? Or is what I describe out there, possible as a virtual machine on a larger server?

    I'm trying to change vocations towards IT. I'm learning JAVA, SQL, and other things, but I have no job experience or formal education (other than a math Ph.D.) I know that certifications only go so far, but I was curious which certifications might be the most valuable for a first IT job? To clarify my question: Oracle certification + Zero Oracle experience = 0% chance of Oracle DBA job. Perhaps, though: [foobar certification] + Zero IT job experience = nonzero chance of entry IT job? Please give specific suggestions of certifications that you would consider relevant towards an entry-level IT job.

    i was updating my ipod classic tonight when for some stupid reason i checked the box which says "convert higher bit rate to 128 kbps aac". straight away it changed my audio amount from 67gb to 79gb and then started to sync, i stopped it right away as i thought the whole reason was to reduce space not add anymore to it. everytime i try to sync up now it keeps going back to try this same task and i dont know how to stop it apart from the obvious and cancelling the sync but then i cant update my ipod then? anybody got any ideas for me please? thanks in advance.

  • Windows 2008 Best Raid Configuration

    I have 4 2TB hard drives and I was thinking about using Raid 10. This would give me 4TB correct? My next question is would it be easy to add more hard drives to the raid array. For example if I bought another hard drive can I add it to the array without backing up any data? Basically I want to be able to start off with 4TB and when the space becomes full add more space as needed. If this isn't possible with Raid 10, is it possible with any Raid configuration. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

    I have a web service that takes a while to build a response despite being tuned as best I can. What I'd like is some sort of cache sitting in front of the service which would always return the last known value from the service, but at the same time pass the request back to the service to build an up to date response for the next request. I'm aware of the limitations that this puts on the freshness of the data, but you can assume that I'm happy to live with that. The technologies I'm using at present are python uwsgi via nginx, but that need not be a limit to any solution you might suggest. Col

  • Asyncronus javascript rendering widgets

    Hey all, I'm creating a javascript widget so third partys (web designers) can post a link on their website and it will render the widget on their site. Currently, I'm doing this with just a script link tag: <div class="some_random_div_in_html_body"> <script type='text/javascript' src='http://remotehost.com/link/to/widget.js'></script> </div> However, this has the side-effect of slowing down a thrid party's website render times of the page if my site is under a load. Therefore, I'd like the third party website to request the widget link from my site asyncronously and then render it on their site when the widget link loads completely. The Google Analytics javascript snippet seems to have a nice bit of asyncronous code that does a nice async request to model off of, but I'm wondering if I can modify it so that it will render content on the third party's site. I found that if I tried to make the 'trimmed' array by something like: char trimmed[len]; then the compiler would throw up a message saying that a constant was expected on this line. I assume this meant that for some reason you can't use variables as the array length when initialising an array, although something tells me that can't be right. So instead I made my array by allocating some memory to a char pointer. I understand that this function is probably waaaaay sub-optimal for what it is trying to do, but what I really want to know is: 1. Can you normally initialise an array using a variable to declare the length like: char trimmed[len]; ? 2. If I had an array that was of that type (char trimmed[]) would it have the same return type as a pointer to char (ie char*). 3. If I make my array by callocing some memory and allocating it to a char pointer, how do I free this memory. It seems to me that once I have returned this array, I can't access it to free it as it is a local variable. Many thanks in advance Joe

    XmlElement has an "Order" attribute which you can use to specify the precise order of your properties (in relation to each other anyway) when serializing using XmlSerializer. Is there a similar thing for XmlAttribute? I just want to set the order of the attributes from something like <MyType end="bob" start="joe" /> to <MyType start="joe" end="bob" /> This is just for readability, my own benefit really.
