  • Are PackageMaker installations with preinstall scripts broken on Snow Leopard?

    Everything worked on 10.5, but now my PackageMaker installation project is broken.   • ImageMagick on Mac OSX Snow Leopard. Is there any way to get it to compile and run?

    It seems that I have more trouble getting standard Unix things to run on Snow Leopard than any other platform--including Windows cygwin For the past couple of days, I've been trying to get ImageMagick to run on Snow Leopard. So even though I do have a library that provides 8.0.0, it's being seen as 7.0.0! Any ideas why this would happen? So here's my question: Is it possible to get ImageMagick to run on OSX Snow Leopard? Are there any binary distributions that have static libraries baked in so I don't have to worry about these issue/

  • Burning Snow Leopard DMG on Ubuntu

    So I have a SL Copy of Mac OS X Snow Leopard.DMG and I am running Ubuntu 12.0.4. I tried burn the DMG to a DVD using CD/DVD Creator however when I try, it comes up with a message saying 'The size of the file is over 2 GiB. Files larger than 2 GiB are not supported by the ISO9660 standard in its first and second versions (the most widespread ones). It is recommended to use the third version of the ISO9660 standard, which is supported by most operating systems, including Linux and all versions of Windows™. However, Mac OS X cannot read images created with version 3 of the ISO9660 standard.' How do I bypass this so my DVD is bootable on my iMac. By the way, I'm running Ubuntu on the iMac and it is my only partition. No other OS Installed

  • How to make a custom NSFormatter work correctly on Snow Leopard?

    I have a custom NSFormatter attached to several NSTextFields who's only purpose is to uppercase the characters as they are typed into field. The entire code for my formatter is included below. The stringForObjectValue() and getObjectValue() implementations are no-ops and taken pretty much directly out of Apple's documentation. I'm using the isPartialStringValid() method to return an uppercase version of the string. This code works correctly in 10.4 and 10.5. When I run it on 10.6, I get "strange" behaviour where text fields aren't always render the characters that are typed and sometimes are just displaying garbage. I've tried enabling NSZombie detection and running under Instruments but nothing was reported.   • Safari can’t establish a secure connection to the server

    I realize there is another question with the same title, but my situation is very different. The problem started on three of my computers after upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard. I can login to gmail and facebook using https with no problem. I can not login to https://identi.ca/main/login or https://seminars.wolfram.com/ or https://panopticlick.eff.org with Safari, works fine with Firefox. Already tried "Safari Reset..." Any ideas?

  • Move files from Mac to Canon PowerShot digital camera

    When I plug my Canon PowerShot digital camera into Snow Leopard, it automatically opens iPhoto and asks to import the pictures, but does not mount the camera on the desktop (from what I read, it's a Canon feature to prevent people from screwing up the file system on the memory card, or something). Is there a way I can move photos I've already imported back on to the camera? I can't seem to figure out how to move stuff from Snow Leopard to the camera using iPhoto, and since it doesn't mount....

  • Man broke, possibly on installing git, how do I fix?

I think since then my man pages have been broken and attempting to look up any command makes my computer stall for a bit before returning 'no manpage found.' Where do I begin fixing this? Thanks.

    I recently installed Snow Leopard Server and am trying to get the most out of the services it offers, but one thing that currently seems pretty barebones is the Wiki it provides. Can Snow Leopard Servers wiki be modified with plugins the way MediaWiki can? Are there any good plugins to allow you to include templates like MediaWiki? Is there any way to include embeded syntax highlighted example code? Is there even a good name to refer to it as when searching for it? "Snow Leopard Wiki" just turns up a bunch of wikis about SL. Alternatively, how hard is it to install MediaWiki(or some other more advanced wiki engine) on SL Server? Could you plug it in to the same authentication mechanism?

    Hi, I am trying to follow this tutorial, on the subject of compiling ruby and rubygems on Snow Leopard: http://hivelogic.com/articles/compiling-ruby-rubygems-and-rails-on-snow-leopard I have added this to my ~/.profile: export PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/mysql/bin:$PATH" But if I write: echo $PATH I get: /opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/git/bin:/usr/X11/bin But in tutorial it says: You should see /usr/local/bin at the beginning of the line returned by the system. I have installed macports sometime ago and plenty of other software, perhaps it has changed the path. Anyway, I have tried to proceed with the installation, so I have built ruby, I did: ./configure --enable-shared --enable-pthread CFLAGS=-D_XOPEN_SOURCE=1 make sudo make install cd .. But when I do which ruby I get: /usr/bin/ruby And according to the tutorial that's wrong. Also if I do ruby -v I get the older version of ruby that was preinstalled on Snow Leopard and not the one I've compiled. Thanks.

So I bought a retail Snow Leopard and boot it with Rebel EFI boot loader. When I was installing Snow Leopard, at the end of installation, setup gives an error. So I restarted my PC and boot with Rebel and I saw that mac was there so I boot that into safe mode and Mac OSX runs. After that I install iPad SDK. But when I try to create an application, XCode is not responsive. It hangs when I choose new project, give it a name and save it on disk. After just as I gave name and choose save it hangs. Is there any way i can repair my Mac OSX without reinstalling? I have also unable to boot into normal mode and also without Rebel CD. So I want to boot without Rebel CD and also want to run iPad SDK so please help me to solve this problem.

    When I try to open a DMG file I get this: I'll just transcript the image: There may be a problem with this disk image. Are you sure you want to open it? Opening this disk image may make your computer less secure or cause other problems. What does that mean in fact? What's really wrong with it, and what kind of problem can it cause just by mounting? Someone said: When you download a file in Leopard (and Snow Leopard), it's marked as a quarantined file. This occurs by the OS adding an attribute to the file, tagging where it came from (such as "downloaded by Safari"). This is what causes the user to see prompts when running files that were downloaded from the Internet, you may remember being asked to confirm you'd like to launch program XXX downloaded by Safari on XXX date. As a new part of Snow Leopard, files which are tagged with the quarantine attribute also have integrity checked by fsck, and if that verify fails you will see the message you described, triggered by an unused node in the disc image. But really, I didn't get that. What's quarantine? I've just downloaded a file here on SL, tried to open, and got that warning. Apple have a say about quarantine files, and they seem to work the same on Leopards. Plus I have got that file using Google Chrome while that feature seems to work just with Safari.

  • Bind a key to a commandline command in Mac OS X?

    I have a Mac Powerbook running Leopard (10.5.8). Does Leopard provide an easy way to bind keys to commands which are typically run on the commandline? For example, I can open up Terminal.app and run the command /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine which will activate the screensaver and lock my screen. What if I want to bind 'Apple-key L' to this command and execute this globally, regardless of which application is in use at the moment? Can I do this, or can I only run ScreenSaverEngine from a Terminal window? I tried to set up global keyboard shortcuts, but it seems that this won't allow me to bind a key to an arbitrary shell command: Note: You can create keyboard shortcuts only for existing menu commands. You cannot define keyboard shortcuts for general purpose tasks such as opening an application or switching between applications. I tried to set up a application keyboard shortcut, but commands like ScreenSaverEngine don't seem to be an application. Note that this Screensaver/Lock screen is just one example. I have come across other nifty commands which I might want to bind to a key-combination as well. I can do this in Gnome and Windows (with varying success). How about with Leopard? Should I be looking at doing this with AppleScript? (I haven't used that since the Hypercard days ...)

  • Mac creating files w/ wrong perms on samba share

    In my group, which is very heterogeneous in terms of machines, we use a samba share to collaborate on files and such. In all but one case, it works as expected (or at least close enough). The one exception is my boss' laptop, a snow leopard macbook air. On his desktop (also snow leopard), if he creates a file it ends up serverside with perms of 774, but when he creates it with the Air, the perms are 644. The key problem is the lack of group write permission on the laptop created files. What's really confusing is that everything that I've looked at on the two machines are identical - same version of OS X, same version of samba (3.0.25b-apple), same settings for the same software, etc. I can't imagine why one machine would be different than the other, but it is. To try to be complete w/ the description, here is the relevant portion of my smb.conf file: comment = my Share path = /path/to/share public = no writeable = yes printable = no force group = myshare directory mask = 0770 create mask = 0770 force create mode = 0770 force directory mode = 0770 EDIT: I looked at three more Macs and all of them worked as expected which leaves this one laptop the true oddball. This wasn't as good as a test as the others though, as they were all leopard.

  • Mac OS X in Virtualbox says "You need to restart your computer"

    I've been trying to figure out for the past week how to get Snow Leopard reliably running in a VM. Right now I am using VirtualBox, and it runs fine for a while, but every once in a while (happened 3 times in the last few hours) I get the "You need to restart your computer" message. Unfortunately, it hasn't even lasted long enough to finish installing the operating system yet. I first tried VMWare, which was a pain to set up. I got it running ok, operating system installed, with the guest tools. Every once in a while though, it just stops running. I click inside the VM, and there's no mouse. It doesn't respond to keyboard input either. I have to reset the VM to get a response. I'm wondering if this is the same error. This happens with both Workstation and Player.     We are using Cables Unlimited USB-2925 USB-to-Dual-DB9 serial cables, which use the Moschip MCS7720 controller. We have downloaded the newest driver from http://www.moschip.com/mcs7720.php, but that driver was last updated in 2005. It does not seem to be working with Macs running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Does anyone know of any updates for this driver, or are there any ways to get the driver to work with Snow Leopard?

However, it seems that option has been lost somewhere between the Leopard and Snow Leopard upgrade. Or am I a bit blind? Can someone please point me in the right direction?

They DO know how to enter an admin's credentials when prompted.
