  • .htaccess template, suggestions needed.

    - by purpler
    I compiled myself a .htaccess template and would like to know whether the caching and compressions is set up right, constructive suggestions and critics needed. # Defaults AddDefaultCharset UTF-8 DefaultLanguage en-US FileETag None Header unset ETag ServerSignature Off SetEnv TZ Europe/Belgrade # Rewrites Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / # Redirect to WWW RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^serpentineseo.com RewriteRule (.*) http://www.serpentineseo.com/$1 [R=301,L] # Redirect index to root RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /.*index\.html\ HTTP/ RewriteRule ^(.*)index\.html$ /$1 [R=301,L] # Cache media files: ExpiresActive On ExpiresDefault A0 # Month <filesMatch "\.(gif|jpg|jpeg|png|ico|swf|js)$"> Header set Cache-Control "max-age=2592000, public" </filesMatch> # Week <FilesMatch "\.(css|pdf)$"> Header set Cache-Control "max-age=604800" </FilesMatch> # 10 Min <FilesMatch "\.(html|htm|txt)$"> Header set Cache-Control "max-age=600" </FilesMatch> # Do not cache <FilesMatch "\.(pl|php|cgi|spl|scgi|fcgi)$"> Header unset Cache-Control </FilesMatch> # Compress output <IfModule mod_deflate.c> <FilesMatch "\.(html|js|css)$"> SetOutputFilter DEFLATE </FilesMatch> </IfModule> # Error Documents ErrorDocument 206 /error/206.html ErrorDocument 401 /error/401.html ErrorDocument 403 /error/403.html ErrorDocument 404 /error/404.html ErrorDocument 500 /error/500.html # Prevent hotlinking RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$ RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www\.)?serpentineseo.com/.*$ [NC] RewriteRule \.(gif|jpg|png)$ http://www.serpentineseo.com/images/angryman.png [R,L] # Prevent offline browsers RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^BlackWidow [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Bot\ mailto:[email protected] [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^ChinaClaw [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Custo [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^DISCo [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Download\ Demon [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^eCatch [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^EirGrabber [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^EmailSiphon [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^EmailWolf [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Express\ WebPictures [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^ExtractorPro [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^EyeNetIE [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^FlashGet [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^GetRight [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^GetWeb! • Geek City: SQL Server 2014 In-Memory OLTP (“Hekaton”) Whitepaper for CTP2

    - by Kalen Delaney
Last week at the PASS Summit in Charlotte, NC, the update of my whitepaper for CTP2 was released. The manager supervising the paper at Microsoft told me that David DeWitt himself said some very nice things about the technical quality of the paper, which was one of the most ego enhancing compliments I have ever gotten! Unfortunately, Dr. DeWitt said those things at his “After-the-keynote” session, not in the keynote that was recorded, so I only have my manager’s word for it. But I’ll take what I can...(read more)

  • .htaccess - lose the file .html extension

    - by Darren Sweeney
I'm having a bad .htaccess day! I want a user to be able to type the URL mysite.com/about instead of mysite.com/about.html On .htaccess file I have: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ /$1.html [NC,L] But this simply does not work? I will add though that if i try this further inside the site e.g. mysite.com/pages/contact Works perfectly whether I have the above code in the .htaccess or not What am I doing wrong?

  • Why Hekaton In-Memory OLTP Truly is Revolutionary

    - by merrillaldrich
I just returned from the PASS Summit in Charlotte, NC – which was excellent, among the best I have attended – and I have had Dr. David DeWitt’s talk rolling around in my head since he gave it on Thursday. (Dr. DeWitt starts at 27:00 at that link.) I probably cannot do it justice, but I wanted to recap why Hekaton really is revolutionary, and not just a marketing buzzword. I am normally skeptical of product announcements, and I find too often that real technical innovation can be overwhelmed by the...(read more)

  • Mod Rewrite Help - Pseudo-Subdirectories

    - by Gimpyfuzznut
I am dealing with a frustrating problem with Joomla that is going to require some url trickery. The idea is straight-forward but after reading a bunch of guides for mod-rewrite, I still can't seem to get it work. Let's say my site is www.mysite.com. Joomla is already performing some rewriting for SEF urls so I have links like www.mysite.com/home and www.mysite.com/news and so on. I want to be able to have (4) pseudo-subdirectories like www.mysite.com/mode1/ and www.mysite.com/mode2/ and so on. These subdirectories should work as if the subdirectory isn't there, ie both www.mysite.com/mode1/home and www.mysite.com/mode2/home should pull up the same www.mysite.com/home. It should point any www.mysite.com/mode1/anypagehere to www.mysite.com/anypagehere. The reason I am asking for this is because I will be reading the url for mode1, mode2, etc, to modify the template page. There will be a landing page that will direct people to /mode1/ and /mode2/ etc and the template will change based on that. Note, that I don't want to actually pass a parameter to the url accessible by a GET or whatever because Joomla removes it (perhaps because of my current mod_rewrite settings). I've pasted the current .htaccess file. RewriteBase /joomla ##########Rewrite rules to block out some common exploits RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} mosConfig_[a-zA-Z_]{1,21}(=|\%3D) [OR] # Block out any script trying to base64_encode crap to send via URL RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} base64_encode.*\(.*\) [OR] # Block out any script that includes a <script> tag in URL RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} (\<|%3C).*script.*(\>|%3E) [NC,OR] # Block out any script trying to set a PHP GLOBALS variable via URL RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} GLOBALS(=|\[|\%[0-9A-Z]{0,2}) [OR] # Block out any script trying to modify a _REQUEST variable via URL RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} _REQUEST(=|\[|\%[0-9A-Z]{0,2}) # Send all blocked request to homepage with 403 Forbidden error! RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php [F,L] ########## Begin - Joomla! core SEF Section RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/index.php RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} (/|\.php|\.html|\.htm|\.feed|\.pdf|\.raw|/[^.]*)$ [NC] RewriteRule (.*) index.php #RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization},L] ########## End - Joomla! core SEF Section

  • Drupal with clean urls turned on is putting question marks in URL

    - by aussiegeek
I have a drupal site with clean urls, the pages load correctly, but then the URL is rewritten with a question mark in it, which I don't want the user to see. My .htaccess is: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on # If your site can be accessed both with and without the 'www.' prefix, you # can use one of the following settings to redirect users to your preferred # URL, either WITH or WITHOUT the 'www.' prefix. Choose ONLY one option: # # To redirect all users to access the site WITH the 'www.' prefix, # (http://example.com/... will be redirected to http://www.example.com/...) # adapt and uncomment the following: # RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example\.com$ [NC] # RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [L,R=301] # # To redirect all users to access the site WITHOUT the 'www.' prefix, # (http://www.example.com/... will be redirected to http://example.com/...) # uncomment and adapt the following: # RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.example\.com$ [NC] # RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://example.com/$1 [L,R=301] # Modify the RewriteBase if you are using Drupal in a subdirectory or in a # VirtualDocumentRoot and the rewrite rules are not working properly. # For example if your site is at http://example.com/drupal uncomment and # modify the following line: # RewriteBase /drupal # # If your site is running in a VirtualDocumentRoot at http://example.com/, # uncomment the following line: RewriteBase / # Rewrite URLs of the form 'x' to the form 'index.php?q=x'. • Can't get .htaccess to work

I'm using Apache2 on Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. I have config set to use .htaccess like normal. This is my default site: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot /var/www <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All </Directory> <Directory /var/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ <Directory "/usr/lib/cgi-bin"> AllowOverride All Options +ExecCGI -MultiViews +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/error.log # Possible values include: debug, info, notice, warn, error, crit, # alert, emerg. My .htaccess file looks like this: //Rewrite all requests to www Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mydomain.com [nc] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [r=301,nc] //301 Redirect "old_junk.html" File to "new_junk.html" Redirect 301 /old_junk.html /new_junk.html //301 Redirect Entire Directory "old_junk/" to "new_junk/" RedirectMatch 301 /old_junk/(.*) /new_junk//$1 // Copy and paste redirect examples from above: (with mydomain replaced with my actual domain... and my computer is plugged in)

  • httpd Redirect / Rewrite .com to .org

    - by David W
I am trying to redirect a www.example.com to www.example.org. I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. I have ensured that mod_rewrite is enabled in httpd.conf with: LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so I further verify this by running: httpd -M and getting rewrite_module (shared) included in the results. Later in the same httpd.conf file is the VirtualHost directive where I am trying to perform the rewrite: <VirtualHost *:80> Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.org/$1 [R=301,NC,L] ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot /var/www/html ServerName example.org ServerAlias www.example.org *.example.org <Directory "/var/www/html"> Options Includes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> ErrorLog /var/www/logs/error_log CustomLog /var/www/logs/access_log common </VirtualHost> As we can see, we are following SymLinks in the directory (which I believe is a requirement), AND we allow All Overrides (which meets another requirement). But obviously I'm still doing something wrong. Can you spot it?

  • Server Directory Not Accessible

I got strange things happen on live server, but normal in local server. My local server is using mac, and my live server is linux. Consider i try to access some files http://redddor.babonmultimedia.com/assets/images/map-1.jpg This work correctly. http://redddor.babonmultimedia.com/assets/modules/evogallery/check.php Return 404, I'm pretty sure my file is in there and there is no typo mistake. How come it give me 404? There is only one .htaccess on the root server and it's configuration is like this. # For full documentation and other suggested options, please see # http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/MODx096/Friendly+URL+Solutions # including for unexpected logouts in multi-server/cloud environments # and especially for the first three commented out rules #php_flag register_globals Off #AddDefaultCharset utf-8 #php_value date.timezone Europe/Moscow Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / <IfModule mod_security.c> SecFilterEngine Off </IfModule> # Fix Apache internal dummy connections from breaking [(site_url)] cache RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^.*internal\ dummy\ connection.*$ [NC] RewriteRule .* - [F,L] # Rewrite domain.com -> www.domain.com -- used with SEO Strict URLs plugin #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} . #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example\.com [NC] #RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L] # Exclude /assets and /manager directories and images from rewrite rules RewriteRule ^(manager|assets)/*$ - [L] RewriteRule \.(jpg|jpeg|png|gif|ico)$ - [L] # For Friendly URLs RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA] # Reduce server overhead by enabling output compression if supported. #php_flag zlib.output_compression On #php_value zlib.output_compression_level 5

  • Subdomains and address bar

    - by Priednis
I have a fairly noob question about how subdomains work. As I understand at first the DNS server specifies that a request for certain subdomain.domain.com has to go to the IP address of domain.com, and the webserver at domain.com further processes the request and displays the needed subdomain page. It is not entirely clear to me how (for example Apache) server does it. As I understand there can be entries in vhosts.conf file which specify folders that contain the subdomain data. Something like: <VirtualHost *> ServerName www.domain.com DocumentRoot /home/httpd/htdocs/ </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *> ServerName subdomain.domain.com DocumentRoot /home/httpd/htdocs/subdomain/ </VirtualHost> and there also can be redirect entries in .htaccess files like rewritecond %{http_host} ^subdomain.domain.com [nc] rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/subdomain/ [r=301,nc] however in this case the user gets directed to the directory which contains the subdomain data but the user gets "out" of the subdomain. I would like to know - how, when going to subdomain.domain.com the subdomain.domain.com, beginning of address remains visible in the address bar of the explorer? Can it be done by an alternate entry in .htaccess file? If a VirtualHost entry is specified in the vhosts.conf file, does it mean, that a new user account has to be specified for access to this directory?

  • Need Corrected htaccess File

    - by Vince Kronlein
I'm attempting to use a wordpress plugin called WP Fast Cache which creates static html files from all your posts, pages and categories. It creates the following directory structure inside wp-content: wp_fast_cache example.com pagename index.html categoryname postname index.html basically just a nested directory structure and a final index.html for each item. But the htaccess edits it makes are crazy. #start_wp_fast_cache - do not remove this comment <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} ^(GET) RewriteCond /home/user/public_html/wp-content/wp_fast_cache/%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}x__query__x%{QUERY_STRING}index.html -f RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !(iPhone|Windows\sCE|BlackBerry|NetFront|Opera\sMini|Palm\sOS|Blazer|Elaine|^WAP.*$|Plucker|AvantGo|Nokia) RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} !(wordpress_logged_in) [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /home/user/public_html/wp-content/wp_fast_cache/%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}x__query__x%{QUERY_STRING}index.html [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} ^(GET) RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^$ RewriteCond /home/user/public_html/wp-content/wp_fast_cache/%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}index.html -f RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !(iPhone|Windows\sCE|BlackBerry|NetFront|Opera\sMini|Palm\sOS|Blazer|Elaine|^WAP.*$|Plucker|AvantGo|Nokia) RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} !(wordpress_logged_in) [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /home/user/public_html/wp-content/wp_fast_cache/%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}index.html [L] </IfModule> #end_wp_fast_cache No matter how I try and work this out I get a 404 not found. And not the Wordpress 404, and janky apache 404. I need to find the correct syntax to route all requests that don't exist ie: files or directories to: wp-content/wp_fast_cache/hostname/request_uri/ So for example: Page: example.com/about-us/ => wp-content/wp_page_cache/example.com/about-us/index.html Post: example.com/my-category/my-awesome-post/ => wp-content/wp_fast_cache/example.com/my-category/my-awesome-post/index.html Category: example.com/news/ => wp-content/wp_fast_cache/example.com/news/index.html Any help is appreciated.

  • How to configure a shortcut for an SSH connection through a SSH tunnel

    - by Simone Carletti
My company production servers (FOO, BAR...) are located behind two gateway servers (A, B). In order to connect to server FOO, I have to open a ssh connection with server A or B with my username JOHNDOE, then from A (or B) I can access any production server opening a SSH connection with a standard username (let's call it WEBBY). So, each time I have to do something like: ssh johndoe@a ... ssh webby@foo ... # now I can work on the server As you can imagine, this is a hassle when I need to use scp or if I need to quickly open multiple connections. I have configured a ssh key and also I'm using .ssh/config for some shortcuts. I was wondering if I can create some kind of ssh configuration in order to type ssh foo and let SSH open/forward all the connections for me. Is it possible? Edit womble's answer is exactly what I was looking for but it seems right now I can't use netcat because it's not installed on the gateway server. weppos:~ weppos$ ssh foo -vv OpenSSH_5.1p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7l 28 Sep 2006 debug1: Reading configuration data /Users/xyz/.ssh/config debug1: Applying options for foo debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh_config debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0 debug1: Executing proxy command: exec ssh a nc -w 3 foo 22 debug1: permanently_drop_suid: 501 debug1: identity file /Users/xyz/.ssh/identity type -1 debug2: key_type_from_name: unknown key type '-----BEGIN' debug2: key_type_from_name: unknown key type 'Proc-Type:' debug2: key_type_from_name: unknown key type 'DEK-Info:' debug2: key_type_from_name: unknown key type '-----END' debug1: identity file /Users/xyz/.ssh/id_rsa type 1 debug2: key_type_from_name: unknown key type '-----BEGIN' debug2: key_type_from_name: unknown key type 'Proc-Type:' debug2: key_type_from_name: unknown key type 'DEK-Info:' debug2: key_type_from_name: unknown key type '-----END' debug1: identity file /Users/xyz/.ssh/id_dsa type 2 bash: nc: command not found ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

  • Use subpath internal proxy for subdomains, but redirect external clients if they ask for that subpath?

    - by HostileFork
I have a VirtualHost that I'd like to have several subdomains on. (For the sake of clarity, let's say my domain is example.com and I'm just trying to get started by making foo.example.com work, and build from there.) The simplest way I found for a subdomain to work non-invasively with the framework I have was to proxy to a sub-path via mod_rewrite. Thus paths would appear in the client's URL bar as http://foo.example.com/(whatever) while they'd actually be served http://foo.example.com/foo/(whatever) under the hood. I've managed to do that inside my VirtualHost config file like this: ServerAlias *.example.com RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^foo\.example\.com [NC] # <--- RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/foo/.*$ [NC] # AND is implicit with above RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ /foo/$1 [PT] (Note: It was surprisingly hard to find that particular working combination. Specifically, the [PT] seemed to be necessary on the RewriteRule. I could not get it to work with examples I saw elsewhere like [L] or trying just [P]. It would either not show anything or get in loops. Also some browsers seemed to cache the response pages for the bad loops once they got one... a page reload after fixing it wouldn't show it was working! Feedback welcome—in any case—if this part can be done better.) Now I'd like to make what http://foo.example.com/foo/(whatever) provides depend on who asked. If the request came from outside, I'd like the client to be permanently redirected by Apache so they get the URL http://foo.example.com/(whatever) in their browser. If it came internally from the mod_rewrite, I want the request to be handled by the web framework...which is unaware of subdomains. Is something like that possible?

  • How to enable hotlink protection without hardcoding my domain in the Apache config file?

    - by Jeff
Been surfing around for a solution for a couple days now. How do I enable Apache hotlink protection without hardcoding my domain in the config file so I can port the code to my other domains without having to update the config file every time? This is what I have so far: RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$ RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://www\.example\.com [NC] RewriteRule \.(gif|ico|jpe|jpeg|jpg|png)$ - [NC,F,L] ... And this is what Apache suggests: SetEnvIf Referer example\.com localreferer <FilesMatch \.(jpg|png|gif)$> Order deny, allow Deny from all Allow from env=localreferer </FilesMatch> ... both of which hardcode the domain in their rules. The closest I came to finding any info that covers this is right here on ServerFault, but the conclusion was that it cannot be done. Based on my research, that appears to be true, but I didn't find any questions or commentary dedicated soley to this question. If anyone's curious, here is the link to the Apache 2 docs that cover this topic. Note that Apache variables (e.g. %{HTTP_REFERER}) can only be used in the RewriteCond text-string and the RewriteRule substitution arguments.
