  Hello all, I have a got couple of software projects that I want to run with my friends(max 10 persons) privately(at least for now). But I'm kind of lost between software management systems. I am not even sure about the definitions of my needs. Dear all, what is the definition/name of the system/software that meets my needs listed below? Continuous Integration? And please suggest me a good ALL-IN-ONE instance of it: project roadmap/planning project resource(people) allocation project issue&bug tracking project mailing list project forum project wiki source control server source control client repository change notifier client build system(like scons) nightly build automation IDE integration(VS) Note: I tried Redmine and liked it, but found it kind of slow. All-in-one kind ones will be the most appreciated but if your suggestion includes more than 3 softwares, please suggest me the ones that work together painlessly. thanks in advance..

• How do I get Tycho?

  Tycho is supposed to be a plug-in for maven for building eclipse plug-ins. I have found various blogs and other articles about it, but the contained links to Tycho are all dead or not accessible for the general public, for example: http://www.sonatype.com/people/2009/04/tycho-040-roadmap/ The only thing I found is a project proposal on the eclipse site, but it doesn't reference any downloads: http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/tycho/ I found a svn repository, but it seems to be extremely dated: http://svn.codehaus.org/m2eclipse/tycho/trunk/ So my question is: where do I get tycho from? Or is it dead and I should stop bothering? I doubt it's dead, since I found out there is a talk about it on JAX2010 ...

• Google Maps within a dynamically loaded jquery Accordion

If I comment out the map line everything works fine (except the map itself).

• Requirements of an issue/bug tracker

  I've been looking at various issue/bug trackers available on the net. There are some very good ones, but I'm unable to use them as my server does not support Perl/Ruby (for example), I'm not too bothered however because I am able to write code in PHP and as such would prefer something in that language. So I've taken it upon myself to write a custom issue tracker system. As of now it's in early planning stages, and before I continue, I'd like to find out what people need from such an application. My current list of things to add include: Creating/Editing/Deleting issues - both on user and admin level Related issues (similar to that of STO) Admins will be able to create builds/milestones and version control of projects Admins will be able to assign users/groups to a project Roadmap of projects Possible SVN integration with Git? What do you think? There are a couple more things I'd like to add, but I'm sure you'll think of a better way of adding such feature. What would you like to see from an issue tracker?

• Hibernate session method to update object

  I need this roadmap of a Hibernate managed object instance. First, I create an instance with initial properties and persist this object in a db. Then session associated with this object is closed. But still, I serialize my object and on the next step deserialize it, invoke some setters, and again, I need to update what changed in a database. What methods of Hibernate session should I use? persist() or save() on the first step and saveOrUpdate() on the second? In fact I see that saveOrUpdate() can be used on each step. What would you recommend?

• Adding Street View controls (the two icons just above the +) to a Google Map (v3)

  It's probably something really simple, but I can't find it in the docs and I can't find a map with it to check it's source... I use version 3 of the API. I guess it's an something to add in myOptions? var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(-34.397, 150.644); var myOptions = { zoom: 8, center: latlng, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP } map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map_canvas'), myOptions); Currently I only have dragging controls and the zoom pane controls. I would like to have the two Street View controls icons too. If you want full source, I'm using this example as a base (how would you add Street View controls to this example?).

  Does anyone have a recommendation for an open-source or paid (either packaged or SaaS) solution for integrating collaborative development features into your own website? Here's more details: We currently host an online plugin gallery for our product. Users can upload and download plugins. But users can't easily collaborate on a plugin's development, can't easily report and track bugs on a plugin, can't easily track a plugin's versions or roadmap, etc. Of course, contributors can host their plugin development on github, sourceforge, google code, codeplex, etc. But keeping users on our website has some advantages. For example: We can use single-sign-on to avoid yet another username/password required we can integrate end-user issue tracking into our existing online issue-tracking systems we can get integrated analytics so we can better meet the needs of top contributors as well as downloaders We can easily reward reputation points to committers just like we do for people who answer lots of questions Anyone know a good solution for white-label sites for open-source project developer collaboration?

• Google Map V3 Constants as Variables

  In the example below I am trying to update the map type depending on the value of the selected option type. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to load the maptype into the google.maps.MapTypeId which is frustrating. I have tried it as a string as well as var gmapsMapType = google.maps.MapTypeId.++maptype; and I feel I am missing something here.   The Business Case for Big Data Part 1 What's the Big Deal Okay, so a new buzz word is emerging. It's gone beyond just a buzzword now, and I think it is going to change the landscape of retail, financial services, healthcare....everything. Let me spend a moment to talk about what i'm going to talk about. Massive amounts of data are being collected every second, more than ever imaginable, and the size of this data is more than can be practically managed by today’s current strategies and technologies. There is a revolution at hand centering on this groundswell of data and it will change how we execute our businesses through greater efficiencies, new revenue discovery and even enable innovation. It is the revolution of Big Data. This is more than just a new buzzword is being tossed around technology circles.This blog series for Big Data will explain this new wave of technology and provide a roadmap for businesses to take advantage of this growing trend. Cases for Big Data There is a growing list of use cases for big data. We naturally think of Marketing as the low hanging fruit. Many projects look to analyze twitter feeds to find new ways to do marketing. I think of a great example from a TED speech that I recently saw on data visualization from Facebook from my masters studies at University of Virginia. We can see when the most likely time for breaks-ups occurs by looking at status changes and updates on users Walls. This is the intersection of Big Data, Analytics and traditional structured data. Ted Video Marketers can use this to sell more stuff. I really like the following piece on looking at twitter feeds to measure mood. The following company was bought by a hedge fund. They could predict how the S&P was going to do within three days at an 85% accuracy. Link to the article Here we see a convergence of predictive analytics and Big Data. So, we'll look at a lot of these business cases and start talking about what this means for the business. It's more than just finding ways to use Hadoop + NoSql and we'll talk about that too. • ARM TechCon 2013: Oracle, ARM expand collaboration on servers, Internet of Things

  If you have been following Java news, you are already aware of the fact that there has been a lot of investment in Java for ARM-based devices and servers over the last couple of years (news, more news, even more, and lots more). We have released Java ME Embedded binaries for ARM Cortex-M micro controllers, Java SE Embedded for ARM application processors, and a port of the Oracle JDK for ARM-based servers. We have been making Java available to the Beagleboard, Raspberry Pi and Lego Mindstorms/LeJOS communities and worked with them and the Java User Groups to evangelize Java as a great development environment for IoT devices. We have announced commercial relationships with Freescale, Qualcomm, Gemalto M2M, SIMCom to name a few. ARM and Freescale on their side have joined the JCP, recently been voted in as members of the Executive Committee, and have worked with Oracle to evangelize Java in their ecosystem. It is with this background, Nandini Ramani, Vice President, Java Platform at Oracle, announced a expanded collaboration with ARM in a TechCon 2013 keynote titled "Enabling Compelling Services for IoT". To summarize the announcement: ARM and Oracle will work together on interoperability between the ARM Sensinode communications stack (based on CoAP, DTLS and 6LoWPAN) and Oracle's Java ME, Java SE and middleware products. ARM will donate the Sensinode CoAP protocol engine to OpenJDK to stimulate broad adoption of the CoAP protocol, and work with Oracle to extend the relevant Java specifications with CoAP support. CoAP (Constrained Application Protocol) is an IETF specification that provides a low-bandwidth request/response protocol suitable for IoT applications. ARM will work with Oracle and Freescale to enable the mbed Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) to act as a portability layer for Java ME Embedded. Oracle will enable mbed as a tier one platform for Java ME Embedded. Over time, this effort will allow any mbed-enabled platforms (mostly based on Cortex-M microcontrollers) to work with off the shelf Java ME Embedded binaries, extending the reach of Java ME into IoT edge nodes. In Nandini's keynote, Oracle showed a roadmap to port the Oracle JDK for Linux on 64-bit ARMv8 servers in the 2015 time frame, preceded by an extended early access program. We expect this binary to have full feature parity with Oracle JDK on other platforms, and be available under the same royalty-free license. This effort has been going on for some time, but is now accelerated due to availability of hardware from Applied Micro. Oracle will be working with Applied Micro on the ARMv8 port, and on optimizing Java for their X-Gene products. Oracle and ARM will work closely on IoT architecture, and on evangelizing Java on ARM for both servers and IoT devices. These announcements reinforce Java's position as a first-class citizen in the ARM ecosystem, and signal a commitment from us to collaborate on driving standards and open ecosystem for the Internet of Things. • PeopleSoft HCM @ OHUG 11: Enter the Matrix

  The PeopleSoft HCM team is back from a very busy and exciting OHUG conference in Orlando. The packed, standing-room only PeopleSoft HCM Roadmap keynote was the highlight of the conference for many attendees and the reviews are in : PeopleSoft rocked the house ! Great demonstration of products in the keynote. Best keynote in a long time, and fun. Engaging and entertaining, great demonstration of capabilities. Message received loud and clear, PeopleSoft applications are here to stay.  PeopleSoft has a real vision moving forward. Real-time polls using mobile texting were cutting edge.                          Tracy Martin (as Trinity) and other members of the PeopleSoft HCM team presented a ‘must-see’ Matrix-themed session while dressed as movie characters. The keynote highlighted planned HCM capabilities for Matrix administration and future organization visualization enhancements. The team also previewed the planned Manager Dashboard and Talent Summary.                           Following the keynote, some of the cast posed for photo opportunities at the OHUG booth in the exhibition hall. As you can imagine, they received some interesting looks walking by the other vendor booths. The PeopleSoft HCM team also presented numerous other OHUG sessions covering PeopleSoft Talent Management, Compensation, HR HelpDesk, Payroll, Global HCM Practices, Time & Labor, Absence Management, and Benefits. All of those presentations are available from the OHUG site at www.ohug.org. • JavaFX, Google Maps, and NetBeans Platform

  Thanks to a great new article by Rob Terpilowski, and other work and research he describes in that article, it's now trivial to introduce a map component to a NetBeans Platform application. Making use of the GMapsFX library, as described in Rob's article, which provides a JavaFX API for Google Maps, you can very quickly knock this application together. Click to enlarge the image. Nehmen wir ein konkretes Beispiel, das in diversen Sessions immer wieder auftauchte: Das „Internet of Things“, sprich „intelligente“ Alltagsgegenstände, deren eingebaute Minicomputer ohne den Umweg über einen PC miteinander kommunizieren und auf äußere Einflüsse reagieren. • Oracle Solaris at the OpenStack Summit in Atlanta

  I had the fortune of attending my 2nd OpenStack summit in Atlanta a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a really excellent event. Oracle had many folks there this time around across a variety of different engineering teams - Oracle Solaris, Oracle ZFSSA, Oracle Linux, Oracle VM and more. Really great to see continuing momentum behind the project and we're very happy to be involved. Here's a list of the highlights that I had during the summit: The operators track was a really excellent addition, with a chance for users/administrators to voice their opinions based on experiences. Really good to hear how OpenStack is making businesses more agile, but also equally good to hear about some of the continuing frustrations they have (fortunately many of them are new and being addressed). Seeing this discussion morph into a "Win the enterprise" working group is also very pleasing. Enjoyed Troy Toman's keynote (Rackspace) about designing a planet scale cloud OS and the interoperability challenges ahead of us. I've been following some of the discussion around DefCore for a bit and while I have some concerns, I think it's mostly heading in the right direction. Certainly seems like there's a balance to strike to ensure that this effects the OpenStack vendors in such a way as to avoid negatively impacting our end users. Also enjoyed Toby Ford's keynote (AT&T) about his desire for a NVF (Network Function Virtualization) architecture. What really resonated was also his desire for OpenStack to start addressing the typical enterprise workload, being less like cattle and more like pets. The design summit was, as per usual, pretty intense for - definitely would get more value from these if I knew the code base a little better. Nevertheless, attended some really great sessions and got a better feeling of the roadmap for Juno. Markus Flierl gave a great presentation (see below) at the demo theatre for what we're doing with OpenStack on Oracle Solaris (and more widely at Oracle across different products). Based on the discussions that we had at the Oracle booth, there's a huge amount of interest there and we talked to some great customers during the week about their thoughts and directions in this respect. Undoubtedly Atlanta had some really good food. Highlights were the smoked ribs and brisket and the SweetWater brewing company. That said, I also loved the fried chicken, fried green tomatoes and collared greens, and wonderful hosting of "big momma" at Pitty Pat's Porch. Couldn't quite bring myself to eat biscuits and gravy in the morning though. Visiting the World of Coca-Cola just before flying out. A total brain washing exercise, but very enjoyable. And very much liked Beverly (contrary to many other opinions on the internet) - but then again, I'd happily drink tonic water every day of the year... Looking forward to Paris in November!
