• Problem with ranking of search results in SharePoint 2007 if using the CONTAINS predicate

  While writing a front-end for the SharePoint Search web service for work, I did some quick testing with the MOSS Search Tool to make sure things were working right under the hood. What I found was that queries composed only of CONTAINS predicates (FREETEXT ones were fine) would have a rank of 1000 for any results that were returned. According to the documentation (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms544086.aspx): "If the query returns a document because a non–full-text predicate evaluates to TRUE for that document, the rank value is calculated as 1000." Given that the behaviour I am seeing seems to contradict the documentation, is it the case that all queries that use only the CONTAINS predicate will produce ranking like this?

• SharePoint Cannot Log in after making entry in hosts file

  I'm building a MOSS 2007 site on Windows 2008 R2, 64 bit. Not wanting to use my machine name or IP in the URL, I made an entry in my hosts file: 127.0.0.1 mydev.com I can surf to the URL, http://mydev.com, but when I try to log in (Windows Authentication), I am denied. I am able to successfully log in if I take out the hosts file entry, and surf to http:// Do I need to edit something else for the authentication to work when I want to use a custom URL like mydev.com that is only mapped in the hosts file?

• What is the best way to migrate documents into Sharepoint (MOSS) 2007?

  I'm working with a customer that needs to migrate documents from their current document management system (not Sharepoint) into Sharepoint MOSS 2007 retaining document history and metadata. I've written a proof of concept using the Sharepoint web services and that looks promising, but the snag so far seems to be programmatically setting the created date/time and user. The webservices allow the fields to be set but implicitly override them to be the currently logged in user + date/time. For obvious reasons, I need to be able to keep the original created date/time and user on migration. Does anyone know the best way to approach this problem?

• How to prevent certain workflows from showing in SharePoint's Workflow.aspx page for a list.

  I have a few workflows associated with a SharePoint list (e.g., Pages). Some are written as SharePoint WF workflows in Visual Studio, but some are no-code workflows created in SharePoint Designer. I programmatically start the WF workflows, but the no-code ones are started manually. When a user goes to "/_layouts/Workflow.aspx?ID=&List=&ShowStart=1" they will see all of the workflows. If I set ShowStart variable to 0 they will see none. If I don't allow the WF workflows to be started manually, then they don't seem to start programmatically correctly. Is there a way to allow the WF workflows to be started programmatically, but not manually? I also want the no-code workflows to be able to be started manually when ShowStart=1. Any ideas are welcome.

  Hi, My WSS_Content database had got corrupt. And my pc was infected by virus. I had no backup of my WSS_Content database. So, I copied the corrupt database to a separete disk, formatted and reinstalled Sharepoint, with SQL Server 2005 as before (I'm using sharepoint 2007 ). I used Sytools Sharepoint Recovery tool, that i found on the net, which helped me restore my corrupt WSS_Content database. Now i want to set this content database as my "The content database" for my newly installed sharepoint. I tried the steps that i found in the link :- http://www.stationcomputing.com/scblogspace/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=40 I get stuck at step 3. Can anybody help me. I am really in a big mess.   Hi all: I'm getting exceptions when copying content type from one web to another: foreach (SPContentType destinationWebCt in destinationWeb.ContentTypes) { destinationWeb.ContentTypes.Add(existingWebCt); destinationWeb.Update(); } existingWebCt is the content type from another web e.g. /Site/Web. destinationWeb is the web that I wish to copy the content type to e.g. /Site/DestinationWeb. I got the SPException that says something like content type can not be added outside of its scope. Then I decided to replace all "ContentTypes" to "AvailableContentTypes", but then I got the SPException saying this collcetion could not be modified. So how can I copy a content type to another web? I want to make a page where a user, say administrator, could send some instructions to a server, for example using standard library and make task for a group of users forcing them to read files. After the reading users would press "already read it" and administrator would know who did it/who did not. I created simple workflow in office designer and choose assigne task to Group1, which is in the sharepoint server. After WF run everyone who is in Group1 get message about a task, that's great. However this task is general for group and if we go to the site section "current tasks", we can see it, while I want this task for every person in Group1. Futher question, is it possible to create form where administrator will choose users for this task, 'cause now I munualy set group in WF.

• Developing ASP.Net User Control to be imported to SharePoint MOSS 2007

  Apologies if this has been answered, but I could not find a similar question: I am developing a webpart for MOSS 2007. I am using WSPBuilder to built a visual webpart (ascx) and everything works fine, but the development/debug cycle is just painfully slow, so I'd like to know if it is possible (without being too painful) to develop the user control faster using an .Net Web Application project with all of the nice F5 debugging, then import the final product into my SharePoint visual webpart. The user control interacts with a LOB system (SQL) and does not reference the SharePoint API at all. (The reason I am building this as a webpart is because I don't need another web app to run this one page, so putting it into a webpart on a new webpart page on my existing site is the best solution IMO.) I would obviously need to import (reference?) my data access classes into my "temp" web app, but think that would not be too much trouble. I realize this will be extra effort to get this set up, but am thinking the payoff will be reduced development time of the actual user control using a little web application vs having to use the compile/build WSP/deploy WSP/reset ISS/test/make a change/repeat cycle that MOSS requires. (I guess SP2010/VS2010 has spoiled me with the native SharePoint tools available.)
