• How to get rank from full-text search query with Linq to SQL?

  I am using Linq to SQL to call a stored procedure which runs a full-text search and returns the rank plus a few specific columns from the table Article. The rank column is the rank returned from the SQL function FREETEXTTABLE(). I've added this sproc to the data model designer with return type Article. This is working to get the columns I need; however, it discards the ranking of each search result. I'd like to get this information so I can display it to the user. So far, I've tried creating a new class RankedArticle which inherits from Article and adds the column Rank, then changing the return type of my sproc mapping to RankedArticle. When I try this, an InvalidOperationException gets thrown: Data member 'Int32 ArticleID' of type 'Heap.Models.Article' is not part of the mapping for type 'RankedArticle'. Is the member above the root of an inheritance hierarchy? I can't seem to find any other questions or Google results from people trying to get the rank column, so I'm probably missing something obvious here.

• Possible to rank partial matches in Postgres full text search?

  I'm trying to calculate a ts_rank for a full-text match where some of the terms in the query may not be in the ts_vector against which it is being matched. I would like the rank to be higher in a match where more words match. Seems pretty simple? Because not all of the terms have to match, I have to | the operands, to give a query such as to_tsquery('one|two|three') (if it was &, all would have to match). The problem is, the rank value seems to be the same no matter how many words match. In other words, it's maxing rather than multiplying the clauses. select ts_rank('one two three'::tsvector, to_tsquery('one')); gives 0.0607927. select ts_rank('one two three'::tsvector, to_tsquery('one|two|three|four')); gives the expected lower value of 0.0455945 because 'four' is not the vector. But select ts_rank('one two three'::tsvector, to_tsquery('one|two')); gives 0.0607927 and likewise select ts_rank('one two three'::tsvector, to_tsquery('one|two|three')); gives 0.0607927 I would like the result of ts_rank to be higher if more terms match. Possible? To counter one possible response: I cannot calculate all possible subsequences of the search query as intersections and then union them all in a query because I am going to be working with large queries. I'm sure there are plenty of arguments against this anyway! Edit: I'm aware of ts_rank_cd but it does not solve the above problem.

  I have a program to use the IMDB database and am having very slow performance on my query. It appears that it doesn't use my where condition until after it materializes everything. I looked around for hints to use but nothing seems to work. • CPU fan kicks in to full gear when i try to install ubuntu 12.10 or LTS

  Whenever I try to install (DUAL BOOT WITH WINDOWS 7) both versions of Ubuntu desktop on my PC the CPU fan starts spinning so fast that I couldn't even go through the installation for fear of my CPU exploding. In windows 7, the temp reaches 25-30 idle and 30-45 under full load. I tried installing through Wubi and by burning it to USB drive. Both wield the same results. I would appreciate any help. • Is creating a full application in Silverlight advisable?

  Is creating a huge public site fully in Silverlight really advisable? for eg. an ecommerce site. I don't want to start any debate but actually I feel Silverlight shouldn't be used for full website because the biggest loss you incur is of SEO. No search engines till today can parse the xap file and index it based on it's content. You can get around it by doing ifs and thens like if Silverlight is not supported then make an Asp.Net equivalent page for it but that only doubles our effort of making application, more than anything else. Why write double code in 2 applications meant for the same purpose. If that is the only option why not create Asp.Net application only. What are your views? Thanks in advance :)

• Integration Patterns with Azure Service Bus Relay, Part 2: Anonymous full-trust .NET consumer

  This is the second in the IPASBR series, see also: Integration Patterns with Azure Service Bus Relay, Part 1: Exposing the on-premise service Part 2 is nice and easy. From Part 1 we exposed our service over the Azure Service Bus Relay using the netTcpRelayBinding and verified we could set up our network to listen for relayed messages. Assuming we want to consume that service in .NET from an environment which is fairly unrestricted for us, but quite restricted for attackers, we can use netTcpRelay and shared secret authentication. Pattern applicability This is a good fit for scenarios where: the consumer can run .NET in full trust the environment does not restrict use of external DLLs the runtime environment is secure enough to keep shared secrets the service does not need to know who is consuming it the service does not need to know who the end-user is So for example, the consumer is an ASP.NET website sitting in a cloud VM or Azure worker role, where we can keep the shared secret in web.config and we don't need to flow any identity through to the on-premise service. The service doesn't care who the consumer or end-user is - say it's a reference data service that provides a list of vehicle manufacturers. Provided you can authenticate with ACS and have access to Service Bus endpoint, you can use the service and it doesn't care who you are. In this post, we’ll consume the service from Part 1 in ASP.NET using netTcpRelay. The code for Part 2 (+ Part 1) is on GitHub here: IPASBR Part 2 Authenticating and authorizing with ACS In this scenario the consumer is a server in a controlled environment, so we can use a shared secret to authenticate with ACS, assuming that there is governance around the environment and the codebase which will prevent the identity being compromised. From the provider's side, we will create a dedicated service identity for this consumer, so we can lock down their permissions. The provider controls the identity, so the consumer's rights can be revoked. We'll add a new service identity for the namespace in ACS , just as we did for the serviceProvider identity in Part 1. I've named the identity fullTrustConsumer. Adding a Service Reference The Part 2 sample client code is ready to go, but if you want to replicate the steps, you’re going to add a WSDL reference, add a reference to Microsoft.ServiceBus and sort out the ServiceModel config. In Part 1 we exposed metadata for our service, so we can browse to the WSDL locally at: http://localhost/Sixeyed.Ipasbr.Services/FormatService.svc?wsdl If you add a Service Reference to that in a new project you'll get a confused config section with a customBinding, and a set of unrecognized policy assertions in the namespace http://schemas.microsoft.com/netservices/2009/05/servicebus/connect. If you NuGet the ASB package (“windowsazure.servicebus”) first and add the service reference - you'll get the same messy config. Either way, the WSDL should have downloaded and you should have the proxy code generated. Enter a string and hit Go! - your string will be reversed by your on-premise service, routed through Azure: Using shared secret client credentials in this way means ACS is the identity provider for your service, and the claim which allows Send access to Service Bus is consumed by Service Bus. None of the authentication details make it through to your service, so your service is not aware who the consumer is (MSDN calls this "anonymous authentication").

• How to install the full Gnome 3 desktop in ubuntu

  Just like the title says. I don't want just Gnome Shell I want to know how to install the whole entire desktop, with the latest GDM(not the 3.0.4 currently in the repos), all the default apps, all of it. I want to have a gnome desktop as pure as the latest Fedora, but of course I don't actually want to use fedora I been a Ubuntu user for years. Any ideas? or am I crazy? I cant find anyone else doing this, though I have found a few other people who want to do it. I currently have Gnome Shell 3.4, but I cant figure out how to install the new login screen, and I don't know what apps install by default other than epiphany and empathy, I also don't know if there is still more missing than just those things listed. I would really enjoy the full Gnome 3 experience.

• # id - urls with id first display full page, then move to #id

  I've noticed this in the new version of chrome, and ie9 and 10. Some urls in a photo gallery have a #id tag as they are supposed to display a full view of a picture. Basically, a div in a lower position on the page has that #id that i call via a.com/1.html#id. This has never been an issue until lately, when i noticed a bit of a lag. The issue: The website loads normally, then the view moves to the #id as supposed, but with some lag sometimes, perhaps because of the high resolution of the picture, which is somewhat noticeable. Anyway to avoid this, or make it so the page would move to the correct #id even before fully loaded?

'rlwrap' has other functions and here's my kludgy alias to force sqlplus to use the full real estate of yourtty. • Welcome to my first official full time employee!

  The last few months have been pretty manic and Vizioz has been growing successfully into a fully fledged development agency. I have been working with a couple of excellent off shore developers who I would like to publicly thank for all their hard work over the last couple of months!This week has been the start of a new era for Vizioz, I have taken on my first full time developer who is now based in our office in Reading, welcome to Colin. Which means we now have 3 Umbraco developers! Currently one with Level 2 qualification (me) but if business keeps growing I'll be sending the others for training shortly so hopefully by the end of the summer we'll be a certified solution provider.We have lots of plans for the next 6 months, so it should be exciting times, subscribe to my RSS feed to come along for the ride :)

• Ubuntu will not start due to full partitions

  I left my computer downloading all the night and I did download 35 GB of movies (legal ...). I restarted the computed in the morning then I booted in my encrypted Windows partition for my work. I have left my computer downloading 35GB of files and when I restarted in the morning, I booted Windows. When I tried to access Ubuntu, it failed to boot and in low-graphic mode told me that it won't boot because the partition is full. I tried rescue and it reported 0 MB free. I also cannot delete files with sudo rm as all are impossible due to a read-only file system. I can mount it in Windows but there is a "write protection" there, also. Should I try a live USB?

• Force full-screen game to one monitor?

  I have two monitors, one 1920x1200 and the other 1920x1080, and in 10.10 they were "separate". As in when I opened the display preferences they were shown as separate screens. Since installing (from scratch) 11.04 I instead have one giant 3840x1200 screen spread over the two monitors. Not a problem per se, except when I want to play full-screen games! When playing games I want them to be on the primary (1920x1200) monitor, but since the game only detects one screen I cant do that, even if I lower the resolution in-game. I have a nVidia GTS 250 card, using nvidia-current driver (version 270.41.06), even though "Additional Drivers" reports the driver is "activated but not currently in use". Is there a way to force the game to use only one of the monitors? Or make the game detect both monitors?

  My sincerest apologies if this is the wrong place to post something like this, but this seemed like the best fit. I was wondering if there are any websites or resources for a full site peer code review. I'm new to Ruby specifically and want to make sure that my logic is following the overall best standards. I've pieced together multiple different tutorials and I feel like while my understanding is getting better, it'd be great if the overall structure of such an application could be critiqued, and for someone that doesn't really know another Ruby developer - I find that I've run into a roadblock and don't want to develop bad habits now.
