  • Cannot connect to Musicbrainz VirtualBox through SSH using Mac

    - by olovholm
I am trying to connect my mac terminal shell to a VirtualBox running the Musicbrainz server. I have configured the network through a BridgeAdapter and running ifconfig on both the host and the guest show corresponding IP addresses. I can now ping the guest, but I cannot connect through SSH. The verbose output from the SSH client on my mac states: (olaenv)hf-79-202:Python oclovhol$ ssh -vv [email protected] OpenSSH_5.6p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8r 8 Feb 2011 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh_config debug1: Applying options for * debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0 debug1: Connecting to 127.0.0.1 [127.0.0.1] port 22. debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file /Users/oclovhol/.ssh/id_rsa type -1 debug1: identity file /Users/oclovhol/.ssh/id_rsa-cert type -1 debug1: identity file /Users/oclovhol/.ssh/id_dsa type -1 debug1: identity file /Users/oclovhol/.ssh/id_dsa-cert type -1 ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

  • How to use public-key ssh authentication

    - by Poma
I have 2 ubuntu 12.04 (beta) servers (node1 and node2) and want to establish passwordless root access between them. Other users should not have access to other boxes. Also note that ssh default port is changed to 220. Here's what I did: sudo -i cd /root/.ssh ssh-keygen -t rsa # with default name and empty password cat id_rsa.pub > authorized_keys then copied id_rsa & id_rsa.pub to node2 and added id_rsa.pub to authorized_keys. Both hosts have the same /root/.ssh/config file: Host node1 Hostname 1.2.3.4 Port 220 IdentityFile /root/.ssh/id_rsa Host node2 Hostname 5.6.7.8 Port 220 IdentityFile /root/.ssh/id_rsa Now the problem is that when I type ssh node2 it asks me for password. What may be the problem?

  • How can I get ssh-agent working over ssh and in tmux (on OS X)?

    - by Rich
I have a private key set up for my github account, the passphrase to which is, I believe, stored in OS X's keychain. I certainly don't have to type it in when I open a terminal window and enter ssh [email protected]. However, when I'm running bash over an ssh session, or locally inside a tmux session, I have to type in the passphrase every single time I attempt to ssh to github. This question suggests that a similar problem exists with screen, but I don't really understand the issue well enough to fix it in tmux. There's also this page which includes a fairly complicated solution, but for zsh. EDIT: In response to @Mikel's answer, from a local terminal I get the following output: [~] $ echo $SSH_AUTH_SOCK /tmp/launch-S4HBD6/Listeners [~] $ ssh-add -l 2048 [my key fingerprint] /Users/richie/.ssh/id_rsa (RSA) [~] $ typeset -p SSH_AUTH_SOCK declare -x SSH_AUTH_SOCK="/tmp/launch-S4HBD6/Listeners" Whereas over ssh or in tmux I get: [~] $ echo $SSH_AUTH_SOCK [~] $ ssh-add -l Could not open a connection to your authentication agent. [~] $ typeset -p SSH_AUTH_SOCK bash: typeset: SSH_AUTH_SOCK: not found echo $SSH_AGENT_PID returns nothing whatever shell I run it from.

  • Multiple SSH private keys for the same host

    - by Sencha
How can I store 2 different private SSH keys for the same host? I have tried 2 entries in /etc/ssh/ssh_config for the same host with the different keys, and I've also tried to put both keys in the same file and referencing it from one hosts setting, however both do not work. More detail: I'm running Ubuntu server (12.04) and I want to connect to GitHub via SSH to download the latest source for my projects. There are multiple projects running on the same server and each project has a GitHub repo with it's own unique deloyment key-pair. So the host is always the same (github.com) but the keys need to be different depending on which repo I'm using. Different /etc/ssh/ssh_config versions I have tried: Host github.com IdentityFile /etc/ssh/my_project_1_github_deploy_key StrictHostKeyChecking no Host github.com IdentityFile /etc/ssh/my_project_2_github_deploy_key StrictHostKeyChecking no and this with both keys in the same file: Host github.com IdentityFile /etc/ssh/my_project_github_deploy_keys StrictHostKeyChecking no I've had no luck with either. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Cannot use `su` or `sudo` after set up key-based access to SSH

    - by OrangeTux
I'm following this tuturial to setup key-based access to the SSH I created a user. I add copy the key to the client via ssh-copy-id <username>@<host> Becasuse ssh <username>@<host> still prompts for a password I run ssh-add on the local machine. The terminal doens't prompt for a password, I can login without using a password. But I cannot run su anymore. Every input for the password results in Authentication failure. I tried it again. But before coping the key, I added to the sudoer file. Copied key, ssh-add. But now I cannot login to my SSH shell att all? How can I setup a key-based SSH access with the possibiluty to use su or sudo?

  • SharpSSH gets stuck in an infinite stream read in C# SSH app

    - by Ric Coles
Afternoon all, I'm having a small problem with the SharpSSH library for .Net (see http://www.tamirgal.com/blog/page/SharpSSH.aspx) SshStream ssh = new SshStream("some ip address", "some username", "some password"); ssh.Prompt = "\n"; ssh.RemoveTerminalEmulationCharacters = true; ssh.Write("ssh some ip address"); // Don't care about this response ssh.ReadResponse(); ssh.Write("lss /mnt/sata[1-4]"); // Don't care about this response (for now) ssh.ReadResponse(); // while the stream can be read while (ssh.CanRead) { Console.WriteLine(ssh.ReadResponse()); } ssh.Close(); As you can see, it's fairly straight forward. However, when the while-loop gets stepped into, it won't break out of the loop when everything has been printed to the console and there is nothing else to read. Is there anyway I can manually force it to break when there is nothing else to be read? Cheers, Ric

  • How do I correctly SSH port forward using LiveReload on Redhat?

    - by program247365
Referencing this page: http://feedback.livereload.com/knowledgebase/articles/86280-if-you-edit-files-directly-on-your-server It says you can remotely port forward the LiveReload specific port of 35729, using this command: ssh -L 35729:127.0.0.1:35729 mylogin@myremoteserverIP When I run the -v option, I get: debug1: Local connections to LOCALHOST:35729 forwarded to remote address 127.0.0.1:35729 debug1: Local forwarding listening on ::1 port 35729. debug1: channel 0: new [port listener] debug1: Local forwarding listening on 127.0.0.1 port 35729. debug1: channel 1: new [port listener] debug1: channel 2: new [client-session] debug1: Entering interactive session. debug1: Sending environment. debug1: client_input_channel_req: channel 2 rtype [email protected] reply 1 debug1: Connection to port 35729 forwarding to 127.0.0.1 port 35729 requested. debug1: channel 3: new [direct-tcpip] channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused debug1: channel 3: free: direct-tcpip: listening port 35729 for 127.0.0.1 port 35729, connect from 127.0.0.1 port 63673, nchannels 4 I thought editing my /etc/services with this line, would work, but it doesn't: livereload 35729/tcp # livereload usage with guard-livereload Every time I attempt to connect with the browser extension, I believe It's getting blocked by my server. What am I missing here? Do I need to edit /etc/services for this to work?

  • How can I make a command sent through ssh die if the ssh connection is killed?

    - by Jean-Francois Chevrette
When using SSH to send a command to a remote server, if the SSH connection dies the process keeps running. Are there any ways to have it kill the child processes if the SSH connection ends? Example: root@local:~# ssh root@server sleep 100 & [2] 15762 root@local:~# kill 15762 [2]+ Stopped ssh root@server sleep 100 After running the above, the sleep command is still running on the remote host. Any ideas?

  • Rsync over ssh: "ERROR: module is read only" suddenly appeared

    - by user978548
I've used from some time rsync/ssh to backup my shared host contents to my personal Synology NAS (212j for that matter), and it worked quite well. For information, I use a password-less ssh connection. 3 days ago, I updated my NAS software and since (or at least I believe it's since that), the backup won't work anymore. I get the following error on the host: rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4 bytes to socket [sender]: Broken pipe (32) ERROR: module is read only ..which I do not understand. beside that nothing changed that I know of in both source and destination that can be related to rsync or ssh, I did check a few things and all seems to be alright: I can still connect through ssh from the host to my NAS with the good user, so ssh stuff like keys haven't changed. I also have the correct file permissions on the NAS (I checked, and also tried to create files, directories, .. with the user used by rsync through ssh). I read here and there that the error means that I have to ensure that my rsyncd.conf have the right read only = no in it, but as far as I know, I never used rsyncd as well as I never configured anything for it and until now it worked like a charm.. I use the following command to do the backup: rsync -ab --recursive \ --files-from="$FILES_FROM" \ --backup-dir=backup_$SUFFIX \ --delete \ --filter='protect backup_*' \ $WDIRECTORY/ \ remote_backup:$REMOTE_BACKUP/ So I'm stuck and really can't figure out what happened. Edit: As suggested in comments, I also tried passing commands to ssh (but not from inside a ssh session), that worked as expected, and also tried a single rsync command, which didnt worked, failing just like the complete backup command. (sharedHost):hostuser:~ > touch test.txt (sharedHost):hostuser:~ > rsync test.txt remote_backup:backups/test.txt ERROR: module is read only rsync error: syntax or usage error (code 1) at main.c(1034) [Receiver=3.0.8] rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (9 bytes received so far) [sender] rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(601) [sender=3.0.7] and (sharedHost):hostuser:~ > ssh remote_backup 'touch /abs_path_to_backups/backups/test2.txt && echo "ProoF" > /abs_path_to_backups/backups/test2.txt' (sharedHost):hostuser:~ > ssh remote_backup 'cat /abs_path_to_backups/backups/test2.txt' ProoF

  • SSH to drive letter in Windows 2003

I have a Windows 2003 server running a SSH server (WRQ Reflection), how would I ssh to it and specify a specific drive letter? (like the D: drive) ex: from another workstation: ssh [email protected] d: When I do that it fails and I get this error: "exec request failed on channel 0" If I simply SSH to that same windowsbox without trying to specify a drive letter I get a Windows (CMD.EXE) command prompt shell on the C: drive. I can then run any windows command. Thanks

  • Unable to add SSH pub key for GitHub

    - by Kaushik
I am trying to set up a new GitHub account as part of learning ruby on rails. My OS is windows. I am having the following problem while trying to add my public key to the GitHub SSH public keys. When I put the key in the text area, supply a name, and click 'Add Key', I am taken to the Job profile page without any confirmation that the key has been added.(I am using SSH client GUI to generate RSA keys). When I come back to the SSH public keys page, I see that the key is not there. I tried this multiple times...without any result. Just as a test, I tried to ssh to the GitHub account using 'ssh -v [email protected]' and here is the verbose output: OpenSSH_4.6p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8e 23 Feb 2007 debug1: Connecting to github.com [207.97.227.239] port 22. debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file /c/Users/Administrator/.ssh/identity type -1 debug1: identity file /c/Users/Administrator/.ssh/id_rsa type -1 debug1: identity file /c/Users/Administrator/.ssh/id_dsa type -1 debug1: Remote protocol version 2.0, remote software version OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-5github2 debug1: match: OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-5github2 pat OpenSSH* debug1: Enabling compatibility mode for protocol 2.0 debug1: Local version string SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_4.6 debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEXINIT sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEXINIT received debug1: kex: server->client aes128-cbc hmac-md5 none debug1: kex: client->server aes128-cbc hmac-md5 none debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEX_DH_GEX_REQUEST(1024<1024<8192) sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_DH_GEX_GROUP debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEX_DH_GEX_INIT sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_DH_GEX_REPLY debug1: Host 'github.com' is known and matches the RSA host key. debug1: Found key in /c/Users/Administrator/.ssh/known_hosts:1 debug1: ssh_rsa_verify: signature correct debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS received debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_REQUEST sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Trying private key: /c/Users/Administrator/.ssh/identity debug1: Trying private key: /c/Users/Administrator/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Trying private key: /c/Users/Administrator/.ssh/id_dsa debug1: No more authentication methods to try. • logout when running firefox over ssh

    - by Jacques MALAPRADE
this is very strange and has never happened before. When I ssh to a remote computer at my uni and try and run firefox (even with -no-remote etc.) it automatically logs me out of my local computer. When I log in again it automatically runs teamviewer ( suspicious!!! ). It also came up with a "network service discovery disabled" error similar to this post when logging back in: network service discovery disabled. I am running ubuntu 12.04 on a hp pavillion laptop. I would appreciate if someone can tell me what I am doing wrong....

  • Suspend after delay via SSH

    - by thornate
I know how to suspend after a delay by using: echo 'pmi action suspend' | at now + 1 minutes However, that only seems to work as long as I keep the console window open. Am I correct in assuming that the at commands are cleared when I close the console? This is an issue as I want to be able to log in to my computer via SSH, send the suspend command, then log out before it happens. Suspending immediately tends to freeze my local console window, which is inconvenient. Is there a way to send a delayed suspend command without it being cleared when I log out?

I tried VPN (both pptp and openvpn), but they aren't that great as connection speed slows down significantly. Since I am deploying the game in another site, my browser needs to download the game, which is super slow. What are ways of bypassing the firewall other than getting a VPN? I have the following configuration: P == U ---------------- W P is a HP Laserjet, connected to U, which is an Ubuntu 10.04 desktop machine with a standard gnome setup from the live cd. I just selected the HP Laserjet in the gnome printer admin and it works, I can print locally. W is a remote windows machine, server 2003, and --- is an untrusted connection. I wonder if I can create an ssh tunnel between U and W, so W can print using U's printer service. Which ports will I need to forward and what kind of printer must I add then on the windows machine?

  • Find out if there is a local user logged in when logging in over ssh

    - by sebastiangeiger
I need to run some calculations on a machine that I can only access remotely but also serves as a work station. There are many of them and I want to pick a "free" one. Free means in this case that no one is logged in locally. My first try was the who command, but for some reason it only lists "selected" users and I can't really find out how they are selected. Next try: ps aux | cut -d " " -f1 | sort | uniq: better showing a bunch of demons but also the local user that was not displayed by who. My current solution is to go in and do ps aux | grep "gnome-session" which is better but still gives me a lot of junk. Ideally I am looking for something that I can include in my ssh profile that warns me about (active) local users when I log in.

  • ssh tunnel to a remote CUPS server

    - by drevicko
There is a CUPS server beyond a firewall and I'd like to use it's printers. I have ssh access to computers that can access the CUPS server, and can get at the servers web interface by forwarding say port 1631. I cannot forward port 631 as I've not got root access to anything on the servers network. In Ubuntu's 'Printing' control panel, I can enter the address of a server, but I've not been able to connect through the forwarded port (localhost:1631, which is forwarded to the remote CUPS server's 631 port). Any ideas?

  • Define outgoing ip address when using ssh

    - by Mark
I have an ubuntu server machine (12.04) with 4 IP addresses for different websites that require unique ssl certificates. I sometimes ssh out from this box and the box I am going to I have to tell it what IP address I will be coming from. How do I specify which of the 4 ip addresses I want to use as my outgoing IP address? If i do an ifconfig it appears that I am going out as the last ipaddress. I guess you would want to specify either the address or the interface.... Thanks in advance! -Mark
