• Is there an open source license that allows any use, except within a GPL/copyleft project? [on hold]

  I would like to open source some code with a permissive license (say MIT/BSD) I would be happy for it to be used both commercially and in any open source project that is not copyleft (GPL being the main one obviously). I looked at the list of non-GPL compatible licenses here: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#GPLIncompatibleLicenses But none seemed to be quite what I wanted. Is there such a license already? If not, would it even be possible to do this? EDIT: I have been asked to edit this question to clarify. I'm not sure how it's unclear, as that wasn't stated. What I would like to know is simply the answer to the topic - can anyone point to a standard licence that is permissive as possible, while restricting use in copyleft licence. I'm not clear why the question would be suspended by the same person that edited spelling differences (apparently British English is a 'mistake') in the question earlier, and by another that had answered licencing questions in other posts.

• How to remove duplicate content, which is still indexed, but not linked to anymore?

  A bug in the tool, which we use to create search-engine-friendly URLs changed our whole URL-structure overnight, and we only noticed after Google already indexed the page. Now, we have a massive duplicate content issue, causing a harsh drop in rankings. Webmaster Tools shows over 1,000 duplicate title tags, so I don't think, Google understands what is going on. Right URL: abc.com/price/sharp-ah-l13-12000-btu.html Wrong URL: abc.com/item/sharp-l-series-ahl13-12000-btu.html (created by mistake) After that, we ... Changed back all URLs to the "Right URLs" Set up a 301-redirect for all "Wrong URLs" a few days later Now, still a massive amount of pages is in the index twice. As we do not link internally to the "Wrong URLs" anymore, I am not sure, if Google will re-crawl them very soon. What can we do to solve this issue and tell Google, that all the "Wrong URLs" now redirect to the "Right URLs"? Best, David

• I think I killed my portable HD will trying to make Ubuntu bootable from it. How to undo?

  I have OSX. My HD appears as two drives; one formatted for OSX, and the other FAT32 for everything. Note: I am a complete Terminal noob. I followed the How to create a bootable USB stick on OS X page. I installed it to the Mac formatted partition, which I'm 95% sure was a mistake. I was thinking more in terms of free space than proper format. Anyway, it doesn't boot, and I can't get the HD to appear when I plug it back into OSX. I have no idea how to undo what I did in Terminal. Any ideas?

• How do I get wireless to work on a Dell Mini 1018 with Realtek RTL 8188CE Network Adapter?

  My Dell Mini 1018 used to work fine with Ubuntu 12.04 with no problems connecting with the wireless card. Then I made the big mistake of attempting to disable WiFi by right-clicking on the wireless applet and un-checking "Enable Wireless." Since then, I cannot get wireless working again. The wireless applet reports that "wireless is disabled by hardware switch" but there is no hardware switch on this computer. Issuing a rfkill list yields the following: 0: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: yes Hard block: yes 1: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes I'm in way over my head, and my computer is now useless. Help!!!

  I am happily working on a contract for a good, solid company. This client is very happy with my work and has asked me to consider converting to full-time employment. My problem is the headhunter. This firm has not been entirely upfront with me throughout this contract. A mistake was made by the firm that benched me for several days, costing me those days' pay. Inadequate healthcare coverage left me with a bill of several thousand dollars after my wife's brief hospital stay. My feeling is that I did the work that earned me the invitation to work full-time for this company. Asking for 1/3 of the commission I figure they're going to receive would nicely counterbalance the inequities that I perceive were dealt to me. Is this an (un)reasonable or (in)appropriate request?

  Hi, I'm having problems with the following while config. my Apache server to Rewrite some urls. SetEnv PATH_TO_DIR /directory RewriteRule ^%{PATH_TO_DIR}/([a-zA-Z0-9_\-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9_\-\.]+)/?$ /index.php?dir=$1&file=$2 ErrorDocument 404 %{PATH_TO_DIR}/index.php?dir=null&file=error This conf. used to work perfectly fine until I used SetEnv PATH... etc. I need to use this because there are lots of rules, not just those. Can anyone point out my mistake? Apache returns %{PATH_TO_DIR}/index.php?dir=null&file=error when I try anything (www.site.com/foo/bar for instance). Apache returns the ErrorDocument if i just try to fetch the index. I know it's not a problem with the rewrite rules because they work when I remove the PATH_TO_DIR variable and just hard code it. • Cannot reboot or even shutdown my ubuntu

  I use ubuntu 11.10. I recently installed gnome shell. The problem I'm facing is that i'm not able to restart or shutdown from ubuntu. I clicked on restart or shutdown button and nothing happens. Just nothing. I even try to login from my unity shell and still the problem persists. Even more funny, when I boot into linux, and seeing the login screen, Still even after clicking on shutdown, I won't happen. What mistake have I performed? But I'm able to perform reboot with the command "sudo reboot". Any assistance please. Thanks in advance.

I want to know, is this a normal step a programmer might take? Or is it highly inefficient? I don't want to be causing any slow downs due to a mistake =) Thanks

  Hi everybody! Today we would like to show you some new hint which will be available in NetBeans 7.3. It's called Ambiguous Comparison hint. Its name seems to be quite fuzzy, but it describes exactly what the hint does. It tries to check all comparisons whether they are intended. Because sometimes you want to make a simple assignment, but you make a typo and comparison appears. It's really dangerous mistake because then your code doesn't work as expected. Your application can produce buggy results. So here is how it looks like: But sometimes a comparison is really intended. E.g. in return statements when you want to return a boolean, so then the hint works as expected and no warning appears.   I am trying to make a small demo in Javascript, I have a black border and a car the car travels randomly and a line is drawn of its trail. When the user click inside the area it creates an object (we'll call this the wall). If the car hits the wall then it goes back 3 paces and tries a different route. When its hit the wall it needs to log down its location so it does NOT make that mistake again. • PATH command not found

  Hi, I'm not experienced with PATH (Any good reference would be appreciated), but I made a mistake and did PATH=/google_appengine, which I'm assuming completely overrid PATH. Still, I restarted bash and echo'd PATH and found that the folders were back. mark@mark-laptop:~$ echo $PATH /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games However, when I then tried to append to it, I got an error that PATH wasn't found. • Yandex frequently replaces page names with ampersands

  The Yandex spider is a frequent visitor to one of the sites I manage. On ocassion it replaces the page name with two ampersands and a space. So if the page is: /mypage.aspx?param=value then it will try and crawl it as: /&& ?param=value Any idea why it is doing this? [EDIT] If I remember correctly the IP that this "mistake" is coming from is based in California and not Russia. I believe that they crawl US sites from a US based IP address. Not sure if that helps. • ejabberd starts slow and fails

  I installed ejabberd and tried to set it up. On my server there are strict rules which allow only several services and denies everything else. I experienced starting problems with my iptables rules and found out that ejabberd works when I allow everything in the iptables and restore my rules afterwards. Then it also works for connecting, registering and else. What could be the problem in my rules? • Reading 'Index Status' graph in Google Webmaster tools

  I recently found a bunch of old files that had been ftp'ed to a live production server by mistake on a static (html / css / js) site. I manually deleted these files, but today when checking in Google Webmaster tools i found this graph below. The 'update' marker is from 3/9/14, what i can work out is what Google is trying to tell me, are they saying that : There was a ranking update like Penguin or Panda and they penalized my site and un-indexed a load of pages which they thought were junk.. OR Is this showing that I updated the site by deleting the files on the server on 3/9/14 OR Is this something else ?

• How can I cleanup a botched Truecrypt installation?

  I made the mistake of downloading the X64 version of Truecrypt and trying to install it when I'm actually running the 32-bit version of Precise Pangolin. I want to clean up the files that I am unable to use, but of course I can't just run the uninstall since Truecrypt could not be installed in the first place. I am new to this but I have spent some time researching the command line. When I run "locate trucrypt -i" in the terminal I receive several relevant files in the usr/bin and usr/share directories. No "rm" commands work on these listed files--I only get "no such file or directory" back. I'm sure this has something to do with permissions but I don't know what I'm missing here. Why is it I cannot find these files through the GUI (even when I select "show hidden files") or when I try to navigate to these files via the terminal using cd and ls commands? How can I remove these files (they are there aren't they?), one way or another, from my system? Your patience and time are appreciated

  So I am playing around with Photoshop and Dreamweaver. I have created a site layout, and have used the slice function on it. Next, I saved as html & images. In Dreamweaver, I open such html file and I fill the page with content, links, etc. I have a website and everything, and I would like to use my newly created html page on it. But, obviously, if I copy & paste the html to my website it won't work because it will lack the images. But two things: I can't find the images, and apparently they are a lot. I am sure I am doing a great mistake regarding the images. Can someone help me?

• cannot boot Ubuntu after removing packages?

  I have problem now with booting into Ubuntu because I removed some packages from package manager and its dependencies by mistake. After I saw desktop removing applications one by one and the theme starting to disappear. After I tried to restart the login, I tried to fix it usinh recovery mode but it's not working. I am sure there are important packages removed, the problem is that I have no backup for my files .. Also, I need my firefox stored passwords. , I tried to boot to Ubuntu live CD but files encrypted in home folder and no access to it !! is there away to access it ?

  Issue:You changed the windows path and made a mistake and now want to reset it.Solution:In short, you can't. If you restore to the system default, you will loose any paths that were appended when you or the manufacturer installed software and drivers.   A good example would be the stackexchange "rate" button. When a post is upvoted the arrow changes color immediately. However there is a grace period for one to edit one's vote decision (oops! voted by mistake?). Is the upvote action processed immediately or does is only process after a set time period, or when the user leaves the page? How exactly is this rating processed? What is the standard for handling dynamic page edits (e.g. stackexchange rating, facebook posts?)

• How to configure extra buttons in Logitech Mouse

  Can anyone tell me how to configure all the buttons on a Logitech MX 620 mouse (http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/mice/2987) under Ubuntu 12.04? Specifically, I like to make one of them just the ctrl key (for control clicking webpages) and another one ctrl-w to close tabs. I also normally make the scroll wheel page down for each click (otherwise it hurts my arms to be scrolling so much). I make pushing the wheel to the left = pageback and pushing to the right = page forward. I've searched for other answers to this and found something related here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1789807 But when I posted a followup post to solve the issue, no one responded --perhaps I made the mistake of posting to a question that had been "solved."
