  • iptables rules for DNS/Transparent proxy with ip exceptions

    - by SlimSCSI
I am running a router (A Netgear WNDR3700 if that matters) with dd-wrt. For content filtering I am using OpenDNS. I wanted to make sure a user could not bypass OpenDNS by putting in their own name servers, so I have a rule to catch all DNS traffic. iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i br0 -p all --dport 53 -j DNAT --to $LAN_IP I did have one computer on the network I wanted to allow past OpenDNS filters. On that machine I manually set the name servers, and created another rule to allow it to pass iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -i br0 -s 192.168.1.2 -j ACCEPT This worked well. Today, I installed a transparent proxy (squid) on the router and added these rules: iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i br0 -s $LAN_NET -d $LAN_NET -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i br0 -s ! $PROXY_IP -p tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to $PROXY_IP:$PROXY_PORT iptables -t nat -I POSTROUTING -o br0 -s $LAN_NET -d $PROXY_IP -p tcp -j SNAT --to $LAN_IP iptables -I FORWARD -i br0 -o br0 -s $LAN_NET -d $PROXY_IP -p tcp --dport $PROXY_PORT -j ACCEPT This also works, however the 192.168.1.2 address does not get routed through squid. How can I have 192.168.1.2 (and maybe others in the future) by-pass the port 53 rules, but not the port 80 rules?

  • Fedora 17 transparent Ethernet Bridge not forwarding IP traffic

    - by mcdoomington
I am running on Fedora 17 with the latest ebtables and have been trying to setup a transparent bridge - using the following script, I send a ping through the bridged host and only see the requests on the bridge (among other traffic from eth0), BUT, arps and arp replies are making it through. My host is setup - Client 192.168.1.10 <-- eth0 -- eth2 192.168.1.20 Ethernet script: #!/bin/sh brctl addbr br0; brctl stp br0 on; brctl addif br0 eth0; brctl addif br0 eth2; (ifdown eth0 1>/dev/null 2>&1;); (ifdown eth2 1>/dev/null 2>&1;); ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0 up; ifconfig eth2 0.0.0.0 up; echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward; ebtables -P INPUT DROP ebtables -P FORWARD DROP ebtables -P OUTPUT DROP ebtables -A FORWARD -p ipv4 -j ACCEPT ebtables -A FORWARD -p arp -j ACCEPT Any assistance would be great!

  • How to enable WMI Provider MSCluster on MS Server 2008 R2

    - by Tobias Hertkorn
I have successfully set up a failover cluster on Microsoft Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition. Now I want to talk to the MSCluster WMI Provider on said server. WMI Queries to e.g. CIMV2 successed. But queries like select * from MSCluster_ResourceGroup where MSCluster_ResourceGroup.Name=\"testserver\" fail with "Access denied". I am using a domain admin account. Do I have to enable the MSCluster WMI Provider? What am I missing?

  • Proper management of PGPool II

    - by Cathy
Currently I have a site, with one Postgres database server. It is just for a select number of users (less than ten) but it needs the maximum uptime possible. I would like some kind of automatic failover for the database. So I was thinking something like: one server running PGPool II, one running Postgres as master, one running Postgres as slave. But then, if wherever PGPool is running suddenly loses power (or dies, or whatever), there's a single point of failure and the whole thing goes down. Is there a solution, assuming that outsourcing this to someone else isn't possible?

  • Rewrite URL based off of IP on OpenWRT

    - by Scott
We are running OpenWRT on a WRT54GL. I have been looking for an answer to this, but I can't seem to figure out what to search for, if its possible, or what combination of programs to use. I want to be able to redirect a HTTP request from a WiFi device based off of their MAC address. This should all be transparent to the device. Basically we are trying to redirect any non-registered devices to a website to register the device (at this point, we would push a new config to the router that would allow this MAC address "full access"). Once a device is registered, it will be redirected to a transparent squid proxy server on another machine for caching/blocking certain sites. I looked at tinyproxy - popilo which redirects but I won't have the MAC address to know if its registered or not. Any help (google suggestions, programs, anything!) would be very much appreciated!

  • Can I configure mod_proxy to use different parameters based on HTTP Method?

    - by Graham Lea
I'm using mod_proxy as a failover proxy with two balance members. While mod_proxy marks dead nodes as dead, it still routes one request per minute to each dead node and, if it's still dead, will either return 503 to the client (if maxattempts=0) or retry on another node (if it's 0). The backends are serving a REST web service. Currently I have set maxattempts=0 because I don't want to retry POSTs and DELETEs. This means that when one node is dead, each minute a random client will receive a 503. Unfortunately, most of our clients are interpreting codes like 503 as "everything is dead" rather than "that didnt work but please try that again". In order to program some kind of automatic retry for safe requests at the proxy layer, I'd like to configure mod_proxy to use maxattempts=1 for GET and HEAD requests and maxattempts=0 for all other HTTP Methods. Is this possible? (And how? :)

  • keepalived questions (requirements, abilities, limitations)

    - by Poni
    1) What are keepalived's (physical/network) requirements? Does the two (or more) keepalived' nodes need to be connected to the same switch? (something related to broadcasting maybe). 2) Can keepalived nodes run on different networks, "internet" networks? 3) Is keepalived depend on the router? (as far as I understand, the virtual IP should point to the real router/switch that connects both nodes). 4) Is keepalived "service-independent"? - What is keepalived's involvement domain? IPs only? Or is it service/protocol oriented? - Does it deal ONLY with IP, or is it designed for HTTP for example? - In other words, can I use it for custom (network-based) app? 5) Have more than one failover server? If the answer for question #4 is "yes", i.e it depends on the service type, then is there any general alternative? Preferably easy to install/configure :)

  • How to enable an active/active file server cluster in windows 2008 r2 Enterprise

    - by Phygg
I've just created a cluster for my file servers in Windows 2008 R2 Ent SP1 environment. The goal - an Active/Active cluster for web server data How do I go about telling the cluster to be active for both nodes? Do I have to tell the cluster to be active/active? Here is a link to the instructions I followed when configuring the failover cluster. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff182326(WS.10).aspx So if anyone can help me to grasp the concept or maybe I'm way off and I need a node that is not active along with 2 active nodes to do this, I would appreciate it.

  • SQL SERVER – Planned and Unplanned Availablity Group Failovers – Notes from the Field #031

    - by Pinal Dave
[Note from Pinal]: This is a new episode of Notes from the Fields series. AlwaysOn is a very complex subject and not everyone knows many things about this. The matter of the fact is there is very little information available on this subject online and not everyone knows everything about this. This is why when a very common question related to AlwaysOn comes, people get confused. In this episode of the Notes from the Field series database expert John Sterrett (Group Principal at Linchpin People) explains a very common issue DBAs and Developer faces in their career and is related to Planned and Unplanned Availablity Group Failovers. Linchpin People are database coaches and wellness experts for a data driven world. Read the experience of John in his own words. Whenever a disaster occurs it will be a stressful scenario regardless of how small or big the disaster is. This gets multiplied when it is your first time working with newer technology or the first time you are going through a disaster without a proper run book. Today, were going to help you establish a run book for creating a planned failover with availability groups. To make today’s session simple were going to have two instances of SQL Server 2012 included in an availability group and walk through the steps of doing an unplanned failover.  We will focus on using the user interface and T-SQL to complete the failovers. We are going to use a two replica Availability Group where each replica is in another location. Therefore, we will be covering Asynchronous (non automatic failover) the following is a breakdown of our availability group utilized today. Seeing the following screen might be scary the first time you come across an unplanned failover.  It looks like our test database used in this Availability Group is not functional and it currently isn’t. The database status is not synchronizing which makes sense because the primary replica went down so it couldn’t synchronize. With that said, we can still failover and make it functional while we troubleshoot why we lost our primary replica. To start we are going to right click on the availability group that needs to be restarted and select failover. This will bring up the following wizard, which will walk you through several steps needed to complete the failover using the graphical user interface provided with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). You are going to see warning messages simply because we are in Asynchronous commit mode and can not guarantee ‘no data loss’ when we do failover. Just incase you missed it; you get another screen warning you about potential data loss because we are in Asynchronous mode. Next we get to connect to the specific replica we want to become the primary replica after the failover occurs. In our case, we only have two replicas so this is trivial. In order to failover, it’s required to connect to the replica that will become primary.  The following screen shows that the connection has been made successfully. Next, you will see the final summary screen. Once again, this reminds you that the failover action will cause data loss as were using Asynchronous commit mode due to the distance between instances used for disaster recovery. Finally, once the failover is completed you will see the following screen. If you followed along this long you might be wondering what T-SQL scripts are generated for clicking through all the sections of the wizard. If you have used Database Mirroring in the past you might be surprised.  It’s not too different, which makes sense because the data is being replicated via SQL Server endpoints just like the good old database mirroring. Now were going to take a look at how to do a failover with just T-SQL. First, were going to need to open a new query window and run our query in SQLCMD mode. Just incase you haven’t used SQLCMD mode before we will show you how to enable it below. Now you can run the following statement. Notice, we connect to the replica we want to become primary after failover and specify to force failover to allow data loss. We can use the following script to failback over when our primary instance comes back online. -- YOU MUST EXECUTE THE FOLLOWING SCRIPT IN SQLCMD MODE. :Connect SQL2012PROD1 ALTER AVAILABILITY GROUP [AGSQL2] FORCE_FAILOVER_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS; GO Are your servers running at optimal speed or are you facing any SQL Server Performance Problems? • XNA Alpha Blending to make part of a texture transparent

    - by David
What I am trying to do is use alpha blending in XNA to make part of a drawn texture transparent. So for instance, I clear the screen to some color, lets say Blue. Then I draw a texture that is red. Finally I draw a texture that is just a radial gradient from completely transparent in the center to completely black at the edge. What I want is the Red texture drawn earlier to be transparent in the same places as the radial gradient texture. So you should be able to see the blue back ground through the red texture. I thought that this would work. GraphicsDevice.Clear(Color.CornflowerBlue); spriteBatch.Begin(SpriteBlendMode.None); spriteBatch.Draw(bg, new Vector2(0, 0), Color.White); spriteBatch.End(); spriteBatch.Begin(SpriteBlendMode.None); GraphicsDevice.RenderState.AlphaBlendEnable = true; GraphicsDevice.RenderState.AlphaSourceBlend = Blend. One; GraphicsDevice.RenderState.AlphaDestinationBlend = Blend.Zero; GraphicsDevice.RenderState.SourceBlend = Blend.Zero; GraphicsDevice.RenderState.DestinationBlend = Blend. One; GraphicsDevice.RenderState.BlendFunction = BlendFunction.Add; spriteBatch.Draw(circle, new Vector2(0, 0), Color.White); spriteBatch.End(); GraphicsDevice.RenderState.AlphaBlendEnable = false; But it just seems to ignore all my RenderState settings. I also tried setting the SpriteBlendMode to AlphaBlend. It blends the textures, but that is not the effect I want. Any help would be appreciated.

  • java TrayIcon using image with transparent background

    - by Jack
    I am using the following code to set a tray icon in Windows and Linux. It works wonderful in Windows and works okay in Linux. In Linux (Ubuntu) I have my panel set to be (somewhat) transparent and when I add a GIF (with a transparent background) the background of the icon shows up all grey and ugly (see image, green diamond "!")....Any ideas on how to make the GIF image I am adding "keep" its transparent background? and the image I am using, if you'd like to test: import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; public class TrayFun { static class ShowMessageListener implements ActionListener { TrayIcon trayIcon; String title; String message; TrayIcon.MessageType messageType; ShowMessageListener( TrayIcon trayIcon, String title, String message, TrayIcon.MessageType messageType) { this.trayIcon = trayIcon; this.title = title; this.message = message; this.messageType = messageType; } public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { trayIcon.displayMessage(title, message, messageType); } } public static void main(String args[]) { Runnable runner = new Runnable() { public void run() { if (SystemTray.isSupported()) { final SystemTray tray = SystemTray.getSystemTray(); Image image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("green_info.png"); PopupMenu popup = new PopupMenu(); final TrayIcon trayIcon = new TrayIcon(image, "The Tip Text", popup); trayIcon.setImageAutoSize(true); MenuItem item = new MenuItem("Close"); item.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { tray.remove(trayIcon); } }); popup.add(item); try { tray.add(trayIcon); } catch (AWTException e) { System.err.println("Can't add to tray"); } } else { System.err.println("Tray unavailable"); } } }; EventQueue.invokeLater(runner); } }

  • Improve my php image resizer to support alpha png and transparent GIFs

    - by David
    Hi, I use this function to resize images but i end up with ugly creepy image with a black background if it's a transparent GIF or PNG with alpha, however it works perfectly for jpg and normal png. function cropImage($nw, $nh, $source, $stype, $dest) { $size = getimagesize($source); $w = $size[0]; $h = $size[1]; switch($stype) { case 'gif': $simg = imagecreatefromgif($source); break; case 'jpg': $simg = imagecreatefromjpeg($source); break; case 'png': $simg = imagecreatefrompng($source); break; } $dimg = imagecreatetruecolor($nw, $nh); switch ($stype) { case "png": imagealphablending( $dimg, false ); imagesavealpha( $dimg, true ); $transparent = imagecolorallocatealpha($dimg, 255, 255, 255, 127); imagefilledrectangle($dimg, 0, 0, $nw, $nh, $transparent); break; case "gif": // integer representation of the color black (rgb: 0,0,0) $background = imagecolorallocate($simg, 0, 0, 0); // removing the black from the placeholder imagecolortransparent($simg, $background); break; } $wm = $w/$nw; $hm = $h/$nh; $h_height = $nh/2; $w_height = $nw/2; if($w> $h) { $adjusted_width = $w / $hm; $half_width = $adjusted_width / 2; $int_width = $half_width - $w_height; imagecopyresampled($dimg,$simg,-$int_width,0,0,0,$adjusted_width,$nh,$w,$h); } elseif(($w <$h) || ($w == $h)) { $adjusted_height = $h / $wm; $half_height = $adjusted_height / 2; $int_height = $half_height - $h_height; imagecopyresampled($dimg,$simg,0,-$int_height,0,0,$nw,$adjusted_height,$w,$h); } else { imagecopyresampled($dimg,$simg,0,0,0,0,$nw,$nh,$w,$h); } imagejpeg($dimg,$dest,100); } I use php 5.3.2 and the GD library bundled (2.0.34 compatible) Thanks

  • Set a color as transparent in palette-based image

    - by NeDark
Hello there! I want to convert a alpha transparent png image to palette based png image. In GD I can do it easy: // We have already the image loaded in $source_img $w=200; $h=200; // We supose that img dimensions are 200x200 $img = imagecreatetruecolor($w, $h); // New black image list($r, $g, $b) = array(200, 200, 200); // Some color that doesn't appear in image to avoid conflict $color = imagecolorallocate($img, $r, $g, $b); imagefill($img, 0, 0, $color); // Fill the black image with the chosen color. imagecolortransparent($img, $color); // Set the chosen color as transparent $res = imagecopyresampled($img, $source_img, 0, 0, 0, 0, $w, $h, $w, $h); But in Imagick I don't know how set a color as transparent (imagecolortransparent() in GD). I have spent hours searching on the internet, but the help in the php site isn't very comphrensive and there are many undocumented functions. Thanks.

  • Odd squid transparent redirect behavior

    - by EMiller
    This is the first time I've set up squid. It's running a redirect script that does some text search/replace on html pages, and then saves them to a location on the same machine on the nginx path - then issues the redirect to that URL (it's an art project :D). The relevant lines in squid.conf are http_port 3128 transparent redirect_program /etc/squid/jefferson_redirect.py The jefferson_redirect.py script is based on this script: http://gofedora.com/how-to-write-custom-redirector-rewritor-plugin-squid-python/ The issue: I'm getting strange http redirect behavior. For example, here is the normal request/response from a PHP script that issues a header("Location:"); - a 302 redirect: http://redirector.mysite.com/?unicmd=g+yreka GET /?unicmd=g+yreka HTTP/1.1 Host: redirector.mysite.com User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100330 Fedora/3.5.9-1.fc12 Firefox/3.5.9 Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive HTTP/1.1 302 Found Date: Tue, 13 Apr 2010 05:15:43 GMT Server: Apache X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.11 Location: http://www.google.com/search?q=yreka Content-Type: text/html Vary: User-Agent,Accept-Encoding Content-Encoding: gzip Content-Length: 2108 Keep-Alive: timeout=3, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Here's what it looks like when running through the squid proxy (note that "redirector.mysite.com" is not the site running squid or nginx): http://redirector.mysite.com/?unicmd=g+yreka GET /?unicmd=g+yreka HTTP/1.1 Host: redirector.mysite.com User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100330 Fedora/3.5.9-1.fc12 Firefox/3.5.9 Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Proxy-Connection: keep-alive If-Modified-Since: Tue, 13 Apr 2010 05:21:02 GMT HTTP/1.0 200 OK Server: nginx/0.7.62 Date: Tue, 13 Apr 2010 05:21:10 GMT Content-Type: text/html Content-Length: 17865 Last-Modified: Tue, 13 Apr 2010 05:21:10 GMT Accept-Ranges: bytes X-Cache: MISS from jefferson X-Cache-Lookup: HIT from jefferson:3128 Via: 1.1 jefferson:3128 (squid/2.7.STABLE6) Connection: keep-alive Proxy-Connection: keep-alive It is basically working - but the URL http://redirector.mysite.com/?unicmd=g+yreka remains unchanged, while displaying the google page (mostly broken as it's using URLs relative to redirector.mysite.com) I've experienced a similar thing with google results pages: when clicking to another page from google, I get a google URL, with the other site's content. • Migration Guide: Migrating to SQL Server 2012 Failover Clustering and Availability Groups from Prior Clustering and Mirroring Deployments

This paper provides guidance for customers who prior to SQL Server 2012 have deployed SQL Failover Clustering for local high availability and database mirroring for disaster recovery, and who want to migrate to SQL Server AlwaysOn. It describes the corresponding SQL Server AlwaysOn scenario and the migration paths to SQL Server AlwaysOn. It also contains the important knowledge and considerations that you must know in order to successfully migrate to a HADR solution based on SQL Server AlwaysOn technology, which implements AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances for high availability and AlwaysOn Availability Groups for disaster recovery.

  • Exchange 2007 two node cluster setup on Windows 2008 Enterprise, install error

    - by Shadow00Caster
I am installing Microsoft Exchange 2007 x64 in a two node environment using Microsoft Windows 2008 Enterprise x64. The Failover Cluster is all setup properly and following best practices for setting up the windows clustering for use with Exchange 2007. All the validation tests pass on the cluster and all of that portion is working fine. The problem is when I go to install the first Exchange node as an Active mailbox in configuration for a two node CCR. It gets all the way through the first 3 steps (Copy Exchange Files, Management Tools, Mailbox Role) and then fails on the 4th step 'Clustered Mailbox Server' with the following error: Error: The clustered mailbox server's group 'XXXX' was not found, and should already exist. Firewalls are all disabled, DNS is all setup properly, the environment has 3 domain controllers all 2k8 ent x64, all replication works. The name I pick for the CCR cluster (XXX) does not exist in AD or in DNS. I have attempted this install from both of the two Exchange nodes and multiple times .. tried with different names. I have been banging my head against the wall for days working on this and would appreciate any feedback on the issue.

  • One domain hiding two servers

    - by George DSeas
For our SaaS web-app we have two identical servers in two geographically separated data centers. FOO_1 is the production server and does real-time (MySQL master-slave) replication to its backup F00_2. We want our users to always go to THEFOO.COM which somehow points to the production server. So even if FOO_1 dies, we can just switch THEFOO.COM to redirect to FOO_2 so the failure is transparent. This switch can be manual or automatic but without failback (if FOO_1 somehow becomes available again). Is there a way to do this with DNS? I am getting stuck with ANAME and CNAMEs configuration. We don't use sub-domains, just straight domains. If not, what are other options? Does it make sense to just have a web server at LOVELY_FOO.COM and just redirect all traffic? I also looked at load balancers but didn't see a solution for across data centers/network providers.

  • 100% uptime for a web application

    - by Chris Lively
We received an interesting "requirement" from a client today. They want 100% uptime with off-site failover on a web application. From our web application's viewpoint, this isn't an issue. It was designed to be able to scale out across multiple database servers, etc. However, from a networking issue I just can't seem to figure out how to make it work. In a nutshell, the application will live on servers within the client's network. It is accessed by both internal and external people. They want us to maintain an off-site copy of the system that in the event of a serious failure at their premises would immediately pick up and take over. Now we know there is absolutely no way to resolve it for internal people (carrier pigeon?), but they want the external users to not even notice. Quite frankly, I haven't the foggiest idea of how this might be possible. It seems that if they lose Internet connectivity then we would have to do a DNS change to forward traffic to the external machines... Which, of course, takes time. Ideas? UPDATE I had a discussion with the client today and they clarified on the issue. They stuck by the 100% number, saying the application should stay active even in the event of a flood. However, that requirement only kicks in if we host it for them. They said they would handle the uptime requirement if the application lives entirely on their servers. You can guess my response.

  • Nagios DNX plugins

    - by danneh3826
I'm toying with the idea of multiple Nagios instances setup to monitor our infrastructure. I've looked at all the various methods of distributed Nagios checks, and I think DNX comes out the closest. DNX handles failure of worker nodes, that's fine. What happens if the main DNX server fails though? Is there a way to replicate the server too? I'm using AWS EC2 primarily, so I can utilise Elastic Load Balancing for the web UI, but I need to be able to handle the AZ where the monitoring server is to fail over, and essentially for a second to pick up the checking load (active/passive, active/active, so long as it doesn't fail completely) The other thing I'm trying to solve is an issue with routing. What I'd like is to have multiple nodes report a fault before Nagios confirms it as critical. Not the NRPE checks, as they're pretty self explanitory, but things more like check_ping. I often have routing issues out of AWS to certain datacenters, so Nagios can often report bad/no ping/timeout as a critical issue, even though the machine in question is working fine. Would it be possible to have a setup where a worker complains a service check is critical, and have a second worker node (positioned in another datacenter/AZ) also report the service as critical before the Nagios central server issues a critical alert? I realise I might be asking a bit much (how far down the line do you go setting up failover systems before it starts to get ridiculous), however surely someone must have thought of this scenario when developing DNX?

  • Growing a small hosting company [closed]

    - by user2353007
We currently have a few servers, 1 WHM VPS (2GB), 1 MS SQL VPS (2 GB), and 1 IIS VPS (2GB). The VPS servers are doing fine as far as uptime and response times but we would like to add the following features. 1) monitoring with load statistics 2) failover I have looked a Zabbix, Zenoss, Nagios, and a couple of other cloud solutions like monitor.us and watchdog from Zerigo. Ideally for the monitoring solution. Our current hosting company suggested we get a dedicated server or VPS and install load balancing software (not sure I like that idea). I've looked into Rackspace and Amazon load balancers which seem like the most feasible solutions for load balancers. Does anybody have any input on the monitoring and load balancing products I'm looking into? Monitoring should monitor uptime as well as give reports on memory usage, disk usage, processor usage, and which processes/websites/users are responsible for the load. It would be ideal if the load balancer worked with any IP. Not sure if either Rackspace or Amazon load balancers would allow load balancing with servers outside their datacenter. Thank you.

  • Transparent PNG menu item backgrounds in IE6 with rollovers

    - by evh
Hi I have been trying to do this for what feels like all my life I have a list menu with block display links, each link has a sliding doors png background image. I have used this javascript (http://www.ideashower.com/our_solutions/png-hover/) to implement the alphaimageloader fix for ie6 using a transparent gif. When I test it for the first time it works but if I click to a different page and then click back it doesn't work anymore - the menu completely disappears, I can get it to work again by duplicating the transparent gif and changing it's name, but again if I go to another page and then come back to it, it stops working and the menu dissappears. Is this a server caching issue or something like that. Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated! Thanks

  • Transparent Proxy for IPv6 traffic under Linux

    - by Jerub
When maintaining networks, it is often an expedient thing to do to run a transparent proxy. By transparent proxy I mean a proxy that 'hijacks' outgoing connections and runs them through a local service. Specifically I run a linux firewall with squid configured so that all tcp/ip connections fowarded on port 80 are proxied by squid. This is achived using the iptables 'nat' table, using IPv4. But iptables for IPv6 does not have a 'nat' table, so I cannot use the same implementation. What is a technique I can use to transparently proxy traffic for IPv6 connections? (this question has still not been answered adequately yet, a year on)

  • Alpha transparent PNGs not displaying correctly in Mobile Safari

    - by worksology
I'm using some semi-transparent PNGs as background-images on various websites. These are usually something like a 1x1 image with a 30-percent opaque white layer. I've noticed that Mobile Safari does not display them correctly, giving them a darker/grayish tint. I've created a couple test pages to illustrate. View them both in your normal browser, and then on Mobile Safari, and you should see what I mean. This shows 11 red images of varying opacities on white: http://thecompleteworks.org/alpha-tests/index-red.html This shows 11 white images of varying opacities on blue: http://thecompleteworks.org/alpha-tests/index.html Is this a MobileSafari bug (I couldn't imagine so), or do I need to do something different, either to my pages or PNGs? (Here's how I create the PNGs: In Photoshop, create a 1x1 transparent canvas. Draw a white rectangle in Layer 1. Set opacity to, say 30 percent, Save for Web as 24-bit PNG with transparency.)
