  • Excel VBA Text To Column

    - by Pat
This is what I currently have: H101 John Doe Jane Doe Jack Doe H102 John Smith Jane Smith Katie Smith Jack Smith And here is what I want: H101 John Doe H101 Jane Doe H101 Jack Doe H102 John Smith H102 Jane Smith H102 Katie Smith H102 Jack Smith Obviously I want to do this on a bigger scale. The number of columns is between 1 & 6, so I cant limit it that way. I was able to get a script that allows me to put each individual on one row. However, I am having a hard time getting the first column to copy over to each row. Sub ToOneColumn() Dim i As Long, k As Long, j As Integer Application.ScreenUpdating = False Columns(2).Insert i = 0 k = 1 While Not IsEmpty(Cells(k, 3)) j = 3 While Not IsEmpty(Cells(k, j)) i = i + 1 Cells(i, 1) = Cells(k, 1) //CODE IN QUESTION Cells(i, 2) = Cells(k, j) Cells(k, j).Clear j = j + 1 Wend k = k + 1 Wend Application.ScreenUpdating = True End Sub Like I said, it was working fine to get everyone each on their own row, but can't figure out how to get that first column. It seems like it should be so simple, but it's bugging me. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Is there a JSON parser for VB6 / VBA?

    - by Ben McCormack
I'm trying to consume a web service in VB6. The service (which I control) currently can return a SOAP/XML message or JSON. I'm having a really difficult time figuring out if VB6's SOAP type (version 1) can handle a returned object (as opposed to simple types like string, int, etc.). So far I can't figure out what I need to do to get VB6 to play with returned objects. So I thought I might serialize the response in the web service as a JSON string. Does a JSON parser exist for VB6?

  • Access VBA sub with form as parameter doesn't alter the form

    - by Ski
I have a Microsoft Access 2003 file with various tables of data. Each table also has a duplicate of it, with the name '[original table name]_working'. Depending on the user's choices in the switchboard, the form the user choose to view must switch its recordsource table to the working table. I refactored the relevant code to do such a thing into the following function today: Public Sub SetFormToWorking(ByRef frm As Form) With frm .RecordSource = rst![Argument] & "_working" .Requery Dim itm As Variant For Each itm In .Controls If TypeOf itm Is subForm Then With Item Dim childFields As Variant, masterFields As Variant childFields = .LinkChildFields masterFields = .LinkMasterFields .Form.RecordSource = .Form.RecordSource & "_working" .LinkChildFields = childFields .LinkMasterFields = masterFields .Form.Requery End With End If Next End With End Sub The lines of code that call the function look like this: SetFormToWorking Forms(rst![Argument]) and SetFormToWorking Forms(cmbTblList) For some reason, the above function doesn't change the recordsource for the form. I added the 'ByRef' keyword to the parameter just to be certain that it was passing by reference, but no dice. Hopefully someone here can tell me what I've done wrong?

  • VBA/SQL recordsets

    - by intruesiive
The project I'm asking about is for sending an email to teachers asking what books they're using for the classes they're teaching next semester, so that the books can be ordered. I have a query that compares the course number of this upcoming semester's classes to the course numbers of historical textbook orders, pulling out only those classes that are being taught this semester. That's where I get lost. I have a table that contains the following: -Professor -Course Number -Year -Book -Title The data looks like this: professor year course number title smith 13 1111 Pride and Prejudice smith 13 1111 The Fountainhead smith 13 1222 The Alchemist smith 12 1111 Pride and Prejudice smith 11 1222 Infinite Jest smith 10 1333 The Bible smith 13 1333 The Bible smith 12 1222 The Alchemist smith 10 1111 Moby Dick johnson 12 1222 The Tipping Point johnson 11 1333 Anna Kerenina johnson 10 1333 Everything is Illuminated johnson 12 1222 The Savage Detectives johnson 11 1333 In Search of Lost Time johnson 10 1333 Great Expectations johnson 9 1222 Proust on the Shore Here's what I need the code to do "on paper": Group the records by professor. Determine every unique course number in that group, and group records by course number. For each unique course number, determine the highest year associated. Then spit out every record with that professor+course number+year combination. With the sample data, the results would be: professor year course number title smith 13 1111 Pride and Prejudice smith 13 1111 The Fountainhead smith 13 1222 The Alchemist smith 13 1333 The Bible johnson 12 1222 The Tipping Point johnson 11 1333 Anna Kerenina johnson 12 1222 The Savage Detectives johnson 11 1333 In Search of Lost Time I'm thinking I should make a record set for each teacher, and within that, another record set for each course number. Within the course number record set, I need the system to determine what the highest year number is - maybe store that in a variable? Then pull out every associated record so that if the teacher ordered 3 books the last time they taught that class (whether it was in 2013 or 2012 and so on) all three books display. I'm not sure I'm thinking of record sets in the right way, though. My SQL so far is basic and clearly doesn't work: SELECT [All].Professor, [All].Course, Max([All].Year) FROM [All] GROUP BY [All].Professor, [All].Course; Thanks for your help.

  • Inconsistency in passing objects from VBA to .NET via COM

    - by Akash
I have the following interface defined to expose a .NET class to COM: [InterfaceType(ComInterfaceType.InterfaceIsDual)] [Guid("6A983BCC-5C83-4b30-8400-690763939659")] [ComVisible(true)] public interface IComClass { object Value { get; set; } object GetValue(); void SetValue(object value); } The implementation of this interface is trivial: [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] [Guid("66D0490F-718A-4722-8425-606A6C999B82")] [ComVisible(true)] public class ComClass : IComClass { private object _value = 123.456; public object Value { get { return this._value; } set { this._value = value; } } public object GetValue() { return this._value; } public void SetValue(object value) { this._value = value; } } I have then registered this using RegAsm, and tried to call it from Excel via the following code: Public Sub ComInterop() Dim cc As ComClass Set cc = New ComClass cc.SetValue (555.555) valueByGetter = cc.GetValue valueByProperty = cc.Value cc.Value = 555.555 End Sub When I step throught this code, valueByGetter = 555.5555 and valueByProperty = 555.555 as expected. However, I get an "Object required" runtime error on the final line. Why does setting the value via the setter method work but setting via the property fail? What do I have to change to get the property to work as expected?

  • How to fill in Different String Values in Different Cells in Excel 2007 VBA marcos

    - by user325160
Hello everyone, So I am trying to fill in Values "A-Z, 0-9" in a 2007 excel macro in four different locations (I am trying to put A-Z and 0-9 in cells: a1 to d9, e1 to h9, a10 to d18, and e10 to h18). So is there a way to make it so that I can get the values A-Z and 0-9 in the other cells I specified above? Thank you.

  • excel vba moving non-contiguous range selection to an array

    - by Russ Urquhart
In the situation where the user select two non-contiguous column ranges i wrote the following: Dim count long Dim points variant Dim i long Set user_range = ActiveWindow.RangeSelection count = user_range.count / 2 ReDim points(1 To count, 1 To 2) For i = 1 To count MsgBox "value is" & user_range.Areas.Item(1).Value(i,1) points(i, 1) = user_range.Areas.Item(1).Value(i,1) points(i, 2) = user_range.Areas.Item(2).Value(i,1) Next i But i get an object error when i try this. Am i indexing Value wrong? This should work right? Is there an easier way to do this? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Russ

  • Access 2007 VBA & SQL - Update a Subform pointed at a dynamically created query

    - by Lucretius
Abstract: I'm using VB to recreate a query each time a user selects one of 3 options from a drop down menu, which appends the WHERE clause If they've selected anything from the combo boxes. I then am attempting to get the information displayed on the form to refresh thereby filtering what is displayed in the table based on user input. 1) Dynamically created query using VB. Private Sub BuildQuery() ' This sub routine will redefine the subQryAllJobsQuery based on input from ' the user on the Management tab. Dim strQryName As String Dim strSql As String ' Main SQL SELECT statement Dim strWhere As String ' Optional WHERE clause Dim qryDef As DAO.QueryDef Dim dbs As DAO.Database strQryName = "qryAllOpenJobs" strSql = "SELECT * FROM tblOpenJobs" Set dbs = CurrentDb ' In case the query already exists we should deleted it ' so that we can rebuild it. The ObjectExists() function ' calls a public function in GlobalVariables module. If ObjectExists("Query", strQryName) Then DoCmd.DeleteObject acQuery, strQryName End If ' Check to see if anything was selected from the Shift ' Drop down menu. If so, begin the where clause. If Not IsNull(Me.cboShift.Value) Then strWhere = "WHERE tblOpenJobs.[Shift] = '" & Me.cboShift.Value & "'" End If ' Check to see if anything was selected from the Department ' drop down menu. If so, append or begin the where clause. If Not IsNull(Me.cboDepartment.Value) Then If IsNull(strWhere) Then strWhere = strWhere & " AND tblOpenJobs.[Department] = '" & Me.cboDepartment.Value & "'" Else strWhere = "WHERE tblOpenJobs.[Department] = '" & Me.cboDepartment.Value & "'" End If End If ' Check to see if anything was selected from the Date ' field. If so, append or begin the Where clause. If Not IsNull(Me.txtDate.Value) Then If Not IsNull(strWhere) Then strWhere = strWhere & " AND tblOpenJobs.[Date] = '" & Me.txtDate.Value & "'" Else strWhere = "WHERE tblOpenJobs.[Date] = '" & Me.txtDate.Value & "'" End If End If ' Concatenate the Select and the Where clause together ' unless all three parameters are null, in which case return ' just the plain select statement. If IsNull(Me.cboShift.Value) And IsNull(Me.cboDepartment.Value) And IsNull(Me.txtDate.Value) Then Set qryDef = dbs.CreateQueryDef(strQryName, strSql) Else strSql = strSql & " " & strWhere Set qryDef = dbs.CreateQueryDef(strQryName, strSql) End If End Sub 2) Main Form where the user selects items from combo boxes. picture of the main form and sub form http://i48.tinypic.com/25pjw2a.png 3) Subform pointed at the query created in step 1. Chain of events: 1) User selects item from drop down list on the main form. 2) Old query is deleted, new query is generated (same name). 3) Subform pointed at query does not update, but if you open the query by itself the correct results are displayed. Name of the Query: qryAllOpenJobs name of the subform: subQryAllOpenJobs Also, the Row Source of subQryAllOpenJobs = qryAllOpenJobs Name of the main form: frmManagement

  • VBA Word 2003 Dialog box

    - by user171476
Hi, Our client enironment recently migrated from word 2000 to 2003, we use the below code in one of the templates to show the word's default insert file dialog box. Word is integrated with another third party application Hummingbird docspen. With Dialogs(wdDialogInsertFile) .Name = "q:*.*" .Show End With In old environment it opens up the default insertfile dialog box pointing to my documents folder, where as in word 2003, it opens up the Docsopen insertfile dialog box. I have compared the settings of word 2000 and 2003 it seems to be same. Any suggestions on this please.

  • Excel VBA Userform Combobox problem

    - by Marc
I'm having difficulties with a Combobox in a userform in an Excel document. The combobox either doesn't appear in the userform, or the combobox remains blank, and when I enter any character in it, the list of items appears, but 2 or 3 times, instead of just once. When I select an item, the chosen item doesn't appear in the box. It seems as if Excel^picks one at random, and whichever item I choose from the list, it's always the same one that ends up being displayed in the box. Can anyone help me on this one? Thanks a lot!!! This is the code I used: Private Sub ComboBox1_Change() Select Case ComboBox1.Text Case "Een nieuwe start" Case "Alles heeft zijn tijd" Case "De wereld aan je voeten" Case "Een levend boek" Case "Drempels" Case "Kerstmis" Case "Confituur of choco" Case "Hoe groot is de hemel?" Case "Ongelovige Thomas" Case "Feesten" Case "Er is er één jarig!" Case "Eén van hart" Case "Ervoor gaan" Case "Groen gras" Case "RELatie" Case "Vele plaatjes" Case "Iedereen fan" Case "Schattenjacht" Case "Lichtbakens" Case "Rijke Luis" Case "Hemel op aarde" Case "Op bezoek" Case Else End Select End Sub Private Sub UserForm1_Initialize() ComboBox1.Clear ComboBox1.AddItem "Een nieuwe start" ComboBox1.AddItem "Alles heeft zijn tijd" ComboBox1.AddItem "De wereld aan je voeten" ComboBox1.AddItem "Een levend boek" ComboBox1.AddItem "Drempels" ComboBox1.AddItem "Kerstmis" ComboBox1.AddItem "Confituur of choco" ComboBox1.AddItem "Hoe groot is de hemel?" • Query string length limit in vba?

    - by datatoo
I am trying to combine multiple audit tables, and then filter the results into an excel sheet. The Union All and parameters make the query in excess of 1200 characters. It appears the string is truncated when running this. What recommendations can anyone make. I have no control over the database structure and am only reading foxpro free tables. I am permitted table creation but can write into the excel sheet connecting to the datasource Thanks for suggestions

  • Excel VBA: importing CSV with dates as dd/mm/yyyy

    - by Michael Smith
ello I understand this is a fairly common problem, but I'm yet to find a reliable solution. I have data in a csv file with the first column formatted dd/mm/yyyy. When I open it with Workbooks.OpenText it defaults to mm/dd/yyyy until it figures out that what it thinks is the month exceeds 12, then reverts to dd/mm/yyyy. This is my test code, which tries to force it as xlDMYFormat, and I've also tried the text format. I understand this problem only applies to *.csv files, not *.txt, but that isn't an acceptable solution. Option Base 1 Sub TestImport() Filename = "test.csv" Dim ColumnArray(1 To 1, 1 To 2) ColumnsDesired = Array(1) DataTypeArray = Array(xlDMYFormat) ' populate the array for fieldinfo For x = LBound(ColumnsDesired) To UBound(ColumnsDesired) ColumnArray(x, 1) = ColumnsDesired(x) ColumnArray(x, 2) = DataTypeArray(x) Next x Workbooks.OpenText Filename:=Filename, DataType:=xlDelimited, Comma:=True, FieldInfo:=ColumnArray End Sub test.csv contains: Date 11/03/2010 12/03/2010 13/03/2010 14/03/2010 15/03/2010 16/03/2010 17/03/2010 Thanks Michael

  • Excel VBA: Passing a collection from a class to a module issue

    - by Martin
Hello, I have been trying to return a collection from a property within a class to a routine in a normal module. The issue I am experiencing is that the collection is getting populated correctly within the property in the class (FetchAll) but when I pass the collection back to the module (Test) all the entries are populated with the last item in the list. This is the Test sub-routine in the standard module: Sub Test() Dim QueryType As New QueryType Dim Item Dim QueryTypes As Collection Set QueryTypes = QueryType.FetchAll For Each Item In QueryTypes Debug.Print Item.QueryTypeID, _ Left(Item.Description, 4) Next Item End Sub This is the FetchAll property in the QueryType class: Public Property Get FetchAll() As Collection Dim RS As Variant Dim Row As Long Dim QTypeList As Collection Set QTypeList = New Collection RS = .Run ' populates RS with a record set from a database (as an array), ' some code removed ' goes through the array and sets up objects for each entry For Row = LBound(RS, 2) To UBound(RS, 2) Dim QType As New QueryType With QType .QueryTypeID = RS(0, Row) .Description = RS(1, Row) .Priority = RS(2, Row) .QueryGroupID = RS(3, Row) .ActiveIND = RS(4, Row) End With ' adds new QType to collection QTypeList.Add Item:=QType, Key:=CStr(RS(0, Row)) Debug.Print QTypeList.Item(QTypeList.Count).QueryTypeID, _ Left(QTypeList.Item(QTypeList.Count).Description, 4) Next Row Set FetchAll = QTypeList End Property This is the output I get from the debug in FetchAll: 1 Numb 2 PBM 3 BPM 4 Bran 5 Claw 6 FA C 7 HNW 8 HNW 9 IFA 10 Manu 11 New 12 Non 13 Numb 14 Repo 15 Sell 16 Sms 17 SMS 18 SWPM This is the output I get from the debug in Test: 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM 18 SWPM Anyone got any ideas? • excel 2007 vba: how to refer to HPageBreaks

    - by notnot
I'm trying to write a macro which can look into the list of horizontal page breaks that a worksheet keeps, and it seems like HPageBreaks should be exactly that. I can add or remove page breaks from it, but I can't seem to isolate the collection itself to look at its contents. Even adding a watch and looking at ActiveSheet.HPageBreaks just brings up a generic looking object with a count field equal to 0 regardless of existing page breaks. I'm really confused about this now. Is there any way to look into the existing page breaks within a sheet? A listing of what rows they occur on/between would be great.

  • Bang Notation and Dot Notation in VBA and MS-Access

    - by Nitrodist
While perusing an application that I'm documenting, I've run across some examples of bang notation in accessing object properties/methods, etc. and in other places they use dot notation for what seems like the same purpose. Is there a difference or preference to using one or the other? Some simple googling only reveals limited information on the subject with some people actually using it in opposite cases. Perhaps there is a coding standards section from MS somewhere that indicates the method of madness?

  • (EXCEL)VBA Spin button which steps through in an sql databases date time

    - by Gulredy
I have an sql Database table in MySQL which have lots of rows with varied date time values. For example: 2012-08-21 10:10:00 <-- with these date there are around 12 rows 2012-08-21 15:31:00 <-- with these date there are around 5 rows 2012-08-22 11:40:00 <-- with these date there are around 10 rows 2012-08-22 12:17:00 <-- with these date there are around 9 rows 2012-08-22 12:18:00 <-- with these date there are around 7 rows 2012-08-25 07:21:00 <-- with these date there are around 6 rows If the user clicks on the SpinButton1_SpinUp() or SpinButton1_SpinDown() button then it should do the following: The SpinButton1_SpinUp() button should filter out those data from an sql table which is the next after what we are currently on now. Example: We have currently selected: 2012-08-21 15:31:00. The user hits the SpinUp button then the program selects those date from the database, which is the next higher value like this one: 2012-08-22 11:40:00. So the user hits the SpinUp button the data which is selected in the database will change from those with date: 2012-08-21 15:31:00 to those with date: 2012-08-22 11:40:00 The SpinButton1_SpinDown() will do exactly the reverse of the SpinUp button. When the user hits the SpinDown button the data which is selected in the database will change from those with date: 2012-08-21 15:31:00 to those with date 2012-08-21 10:10:00 So I think the date which we are currently on, should be stored in a variable. But on button hit not every bigger or lower data should be selected in the database, only those which are the closest bigger or the closest lower date. How can I do this? I hope I described my problem understandable. My native language is not english, so misunderstandings can occur! Please ask if you don't understand something! Thank you for reading!
