  • restrict access to IIS virtual directory from root website

    I have two domains (domain1.com and domain2.com). Both of them use the same Windows hosting server with IIS7. One of the domains is being called the "primary domain" by my hosting provider (GoDaddy) and it always points to the root folder that I was given. For the other domain, I have created a virtual directory in IIS and pointed it there. The folder structure is like this - root/ --Default.aspx --SomeFile.aspx --domain2folder/ ----Default.aspx ----Domain2SomeFile.aspx So, if I type domain1.com, I see the regulakr Default.aspx. But if I type domain2.com, I am shown the contents of domain2folder as if it were a separate web application - I think that is what IIS virtual directory is meant for. Well and good. But the problem is, when I type http://domain1.com/domain2folder, I see the domain2's website! But I don't want that to be shown when I use the path like that from domain1. Only if they use domain2.com, user should be able to see those contents. How can I do that? Hope I am making sense. Thanks.

  • IIS / Virtual Directory authentication.

    I have an IIS(v6)/Windows 2003/.Net 3.5(app code, libraries etc.) server hosting a website at www.mywebsite.com mapped to E:\Inetpub\wwwroot\mywebsite, we also have a virtual directory (VirtDir) mapped out to E:\Inetpub\wwwroot\mywebsite\files (although in theory this could be in a different directory or a separate machine) where we store a customer's files(a bunch of .pdf & .xls). Currently to access a file you can enter into the url something like: www.mywebsite.com/VirtDir/Customer/myFile.pdf and get access to the file. The problem is the user doesn't have to log into www.mywebsite.com to get access to the file, we would prefer them to log in first. We would like the user to login via the mywebsite and if valid, let them download files from the virtual directory. The www.mywebsite.com and VirtDir are separate sites on the same farm. Allow Anon Access, and Integrated Windows Authentication both enabled. I'm more of a developer and less of a Sys Admin, but hopefully I'm in the right spot, any help would be appreciated.

    Here is my situation. I have a server with 2 NICs. I have installed virtual box and I have created a few Guest Operating Systems on it. I want these Virtual Machines to be using a bridge.NIC2 would be used to setup this bridge and NIC1 would be connected to corporate network.I am not clear with how should I go on doing this. /etc/network/interfaces is the file which I am trying to modify etc. My approach is following 1) Define a configuration file /etc/network/interfaces 2) Create IPTABLES as how NIC1 will forward the packets to Bridge on NIC2 Now comes the problem I do not understand what is the meaning of following lines in the configuration file auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The primary network interface auto eth2 iface eth2 inet manual auto br0 iface br0 inet static address 192.168.1.14 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.1.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 gateway 192.168.1.10 # dns-* options are implemented by the resolvconf package, if installed dns-nameservers 192.168.13.2 dns-search myserver.net bridge_ports eth2 bridge_fd 9 bridge_hello 2 bridge_maxage 12 bridge_stp off So any pointers to what should be the entries of /etc/network/interfaces file.   • I want to build a Virtual Machine, are there any good references?

    I'm looking to build a Virtual Machine as a platform independent way to run some game code (essentially scripting). The Virtual Machines that I'm aware of in games are rather old: Infocom's Z-Machine, LucasArts' SCUMM, id Software's Quake 3. As a .net Developer, I'm familiar with the CLR and looked into the CIL Instructions to get an overview of what you actually implement on a VM Level (vs. the language level). I've also dabbled a bit in 6502 Assembler during the last year. The thing is, now that I want¹ to implement one, I need to dig a bit deeper. I know that there are stack based and register based VMs, but I don't really know which one is better at what and if there are more or hybrid approaches. I need to deal with memory management, decide which low level types are part of the VM and need to understand why stuff like ldstr works the way it does. My only reference book (apart from the Z-Machine stuff) is the CLI Annotated Standard, but I wonder if there is a better, more general/fundamental lecture for VMs? Basically something like the Dragon Book, but for VMs? I'm aware of Donald Knuth's Art of Computer Programming which uses a register-based VM, but I'm not sure how applicable that series still is, especially since it's still unfinished? Clarification: The goal is to build a specialized VM. For example, Infocom's Z-Machine contains OpCodes for setting the Background Color or playing a sound. So I need to figure out how much goes into the VM as OpCodes vs. the compiler that takes a script (language TBD) and generates the bytecode from it, but for that I need to understand what I'm really doing. ¹ I know, modern technology would allow me to just interpret a high level scripting language on the fly. But where is the fun in that? :) It's also a bit hard to google because Virtual Machines is nowadays often associated with VMWare-type OS Virtualization...

  • safely lock a file then move? windows

    I have a file and need to ensure it exist before inserting a row into the db. After i insert i need to use the PK as part of the filename and move it into another location. How do i check if it exist then lock it so it cant be deleted until i can insert into the db then proceed to move the file without it being deleted upon releasing the lock? also the file may be in use. I am thinking of copying the file into a safe location then moving that file away. In this case i need to copy a file that is being used for reading. How can i do the above steps safely? Using .NET

    I want the user to be able to download a file from a page and have the filename extension in the Save As dialog box to be defaulted to nothing. This is the code I'm using: Response.ContentType = "text/plain" Response.AppendHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=FILE") Response.WriteFile("C:\Temp\FILE") Response.End() FILE is the actual file. It is saved on the server without any extension. Currently, the "Save As Type" drop down list in the dialog defaults to "Text Document". How can I make it so that it defaults to "All Files"?

  • Recovering database files from a corrupted VHD

    We have a SQL server hosted on a virtual machine. Our hosting company updated/restarted the server and for some reason the virtual machines became unbootable. We've spoken to Microsoft and used a few higher level tools to attempt to recover the virtual machines but were unsuccessful. In browsing the file system the database folder doesn't even appear. I'm wondering if there are any lower level tools that might be able to find and copy the database files. As far as I know the physical hard drive is ok, so I'm hoping there may be some way to recover the files themselves even if the rest of the virtual machine file-system is a loss. Obviously we're in a bit of a bind, and any help/ suggestions are very much appreciated.

    Every time I restart/shut down my VM in VirtualBox (image is Ubuntu 10.02), whenever I start it back up, it reverts to the state it was in after I installed Guest Additions. This is extremely frustrating as every time I make progress on a project, whenever it restarts (mostly from crashing), I have to redo mostly everything. Is this a known problem with Guest Additions or with Virtual Box in general, and if so is there some solution?

    I am having a bit of a strange issue. I have a VMWare ESXi server with two virtual machines running on it. They are running just fine and can communicate on the network without a problem. I am now trying to add a third. I am installing Ubuntu 8.04 Server. I assign it a static IP address and it's a fresh installation. Once installed I can ping the gateway but I cannot ping the DNS server. It's on the same network with the other two VMs which are communicating just fine. I have tried to reinstall the operating system but it still fails to connect. One interesting thing I notice is the arp reply's MAC doesn't look right. I have cleared the FortiGate's ARP cache though and checked the entry and it seems correct. The MAC it lists is the one for the router.     I am having trouble using my guest (Windows XP SP3) to communicate over TCP/IP to the host computer (Windows 7) using Virtual PC 2007. I have WAMPServer running on my host, and want to be able to access the websites on there from my guest OS. What do I do to make this work? What is the IP address of the host computer when using Shared Networking? As far as I can tell "Internal Networking" won't work, because that only allows communication between the guests, not between a guest and the host.
