• Internet Exploer 8 - Internet Access Issue

  Hello, I am using IE8 since last 6 months and its working fine. I am using it by providing proxy server address. Suddenly it started not working today. Strange thing is that it fails to communicate with proxy server. It still work if I use modem as internet connection, its just has problem with proxy server communicationl. Even my Firefox is working fine. And all installed application like Yahoo Messanger and skype working fine. I also uninstalled and reinstalled, but no luck. Any work around?   Is there a constraint-based scheduling/calendar application? This application would be used to coordinate multiple people's schedules. Two basic use cases: Multiple people need to schedule a time to meet together. Everyone is busy at different days/times. Each person enters blocks of days/times they cannot meet, and the application suggests the best times to meet given a desired time range. Multiple people need to use some common resources for a specific length of time (over some time span like a week), but the exact date/time does not matter. These people enter the resources and time needed, and the application suggests the best way to share these resources. This use case still accounts for people's blocks of busy time. I imagine this program would be graphical, but other interfaces would be acceptable. Also preferable if web-based/works on both PC's and Mac's, but PC-only/Mac-only solutions are acceptable.

• Routing application traffic through specific interface

  Hello All! First question here, so please go easy: I have a debian linux 5.0 server with two public interfaces. I would like to route outbound traffic from one instance of an application via one interface and the second instance through the second interface. There are some challenges: both instances of the application use the same protocol both instances of the application can access the entire internet (can't route based on dest network) I can't change the code of the application I don't think a typical approach to load balancing all traffic is going to work well, because there are relatively few destination servers being accessed in the outbound traffic, and all traffic would really need to be distributed pretty evenly across these relatively few servers. I could probably run two virtualized servers on the box and bind each of them to a different external ip, but I'm looking for a simpler solution, maybe using iproute or iptables? Any ideas for me? Thanks in advance - and I'm happy to answer any questions.

• IIS 7 throws 401 responses on application whose physical directory has been shared

  I have an IIS 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 box with a relatively fresh install. I've deployed a .NET 2.0 application using windows autentication to the server, and from the default website, added it as an application. I updated the IIS authentication to enable Windows Authentication. When I went to share out the physical directory for the application so that a developer could deploy updates, the users began to receive 401 errors. I can reliably recreate the issue by sharing out the directory of any newly created application. The IIS user has the necessary read/write access to the directory. What do I need to do to keep web users from receiving 401's while at the same time allowing this developer to have access to the physical directory for deployments? Thanks in advance!

  I have a Windows XP and I just installed about 12 new programs. Big mistake! Before I installed these programs, my internet connection was running great. But now after installing and restarting my laptop, the internet is crawling. How can I see what was changed? Hint: prior to installing these 12 programs, I installed IE version 8. So probably if I removed that it would fix it, but the problem is I need IE in order for my SQL/C# web application to work properly.

  What I have? I have normal web application and it has 3 site collections with name, "PDirectory". Other than this I have only Central administration web application in the farm. What I want? I want to delete that web application, "PDirectory". What problem am I facing? I am not able to delete the web application. I get below error when I try to delete it but, the site collections got deleted! Update all of these dependants to point to null or different objects and retry this operation. • Can ping localhost but can't browse

  I know this is a pretty common question but I did my research and couldn't find a solution for this issue. I'm configuring a development application server and I came to the point where I can ping both localhost and 127.0.0.1, but I cannot browse either of them from IE or Firefox. I can browse and ping other websites (such as google) just fine. I tried flushing the dns (ipconfig /flushdns), restarting the IIS Admin service, restarting IIS itself, etc, and nothing seems to work. The results from ipconfig /all shows IP Rounting Enabled = No and WINS Proxy Enabled = No. Hwat is intriguing to me is that I compared everything in IIS in the dev environment with the production environment and the settings are the same, but I can browse localhost in production, but not in dev! What could be causing the inability to browse localhost and 127.0.0.1 from IE and Firefox?

• Windows 7 Locking Executable Files

  Since I've been using Windows 7 RTM (as opposed to the Beta and RCs), I've been having a peculiar issue with executable files. I first noticed it whilst using Visual Studio, in that when building a project, it would often fail saying that the output file was locked - but the problem has stemmed further. When I've executed an application, closed it (cleanly), and attempted to delete/move/rename/overwrite said file, Windows 7 tells me that the file is locked/access is denied. I've made use of software like LockHunter/Unlocker but it is seemingly unable to remove these locks (most of the time, it shows no locks at all). After about 5-10 minutes, the respective files are unlocked again, but needless to say this is a bit of a workflow-breaker (as it's not simply constrained to VS). I've done the usual tasks of virus/malware scanning, and turned up with absolutely nothing. I've got no peculiar services running, and the problem was not present before I installed a Windows 7 RTM version. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Migrate TFS 2010 Application Tier to another server on the same domain

  I'm in the process of looking into the possibility of moving our TFS 2010 Application Tier to another server from the one it is on at the moment so that we can repurpose the hardware. I've been looking through the Microsoft Documentation over at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms404869.aspx, but this assumes that everything is stored on one box (Application and Data tiers). In my setup however, our Data tier is separate to the Application tier and will be staying where it is. I think I should be able to do this but for my own peace of mind, would there be any issues or implications if I merely installed the Application Tier on the new hardware and then connected it to the existing data tier?

• Log and debug/decrypt an windows application's HTTPS traffic

  I've got a proprietary windows-only application that uses HTTPS to speak with a (also proprietary, undocumented) web service. To ultimately be able to use the web service's functionality on my linux machines, I want to reverse-engineer the web service API by analyzing the requests sent by the application. Now the question: How can I decrypt and log the HTTPS traffic? I know of several solutions which don't apply in my case: Fiddler is a man-in-the-middle HTTPS proxy which I cannot use since the application doesn't support proxies. Also, I do not (yet) know if it works with self-signed server certificates, which I doubt. Wireshark is able to decrypt SSL streams if you have the server's private certificate, which I don't have. any browser extension since the application is not a browser If I remember correctly, there have been some trojans that capture online banking information by hooking into/replacing the window's crypto API. Since the machine is mine, low level changes are possible. Maybe there is a non-trojan (white-hat) network log application out there which does the same? There is a blackhat presentation with some details available to read. They refer to Microsoft Research Detour for easy API hooking.

• 100% uptime for a web application

  We received an interesting "requirement" from a client today. They want 100% uptime with off-site failover on a web application. From our web application's viewpoint, this isn't an issue. It was designed to be able to scale out across multiple database servers, etc. However, from a networking issue I just can't seem to figure out how to make it work. In a nutshell, the application will live on servers within the client's network. It is accessed by both internal and external people. They want us to maintain an off-site copy of the system that in the event of a serious failure at their premises would immediately pick up and take over. Now we know there is absolutely no way to resolve it for internal people (carrier pigeon?), but they want the external users to not even notice. Quite frankly, I haven't the foggiest idea of how this might be possible. It seems that if they lose Internet connectivity then we would have to do a DNS change to forward traffic to the external machines... Which, of course, takes time. Ideas? UPDATE I had a discussion with the client today and they clarified on the issue. They stuck by the 100% number, saying the application should stay active even in the event of a flood. However, that requirement only kicks in if we host it for them. They said they would handle the uptime requirement if the application lives entirely on their servers. You can guess my response.

This sound is applied to every application and played whenever the application outputs a beep (for instance, when typing a keyboard shortcut that doesn't work, or during a terminal beep).   I got used to OS X way of doing things (separate shortcuts for switching between applications and switching between current application's windows). Is there a way to get Compiz to have a shortcut (such as Super+Tab) to switch between applications ("window groups") instead of between windows? I already got the "Scale" plugin (an expose clone) to display only windows from current window group, proving there is a way to group by application, but I cannot find a way to get the "Application Switcher" to switch between these groups instead of between windows themselves.

  I've created a simple web application, a self-contained tool with a user system. I host it publicly for everyone to use, but I've gotten some requests to allow companies to host the entire application privately on their internal systems. I have no idea what I'm doing - I have no experience with deployment or server stuff. I'm just some person who learned enough JS and PHP to make a tool for my own needs. The application runs with Apache, MySQL, and PHP. What's the best way to package my application to let others run it privately? I'm assuming there's better options than just sending them all the source code. • Prevent Java application from accessing/monitoring/altering clipboard contents

  I'm a student using a service that provides practice questions for standardized tests. The service requires that I access the questions by downloading and running a Java application. If I try to copy anything from any window of my computer (including applications unrelated to the question bank) while the application is running, the copied item is replaced with an obnoxious message asking me to not pirate their copyrighted material. I find this obnoxious, and I also really don't like the idea that any application can slurp up any and all potentially sensitive information that I happen to copy while it's running. Is there are a way to limit the privileges of this application to stop it from doing this? Thank you!

  I have a virtual machine that is running IE 9 and windows 7 Latest Updates that I want to use to test my intranet site (ASP.Net Application). I can't add the virtual machine to the domain and I don't want to have to type my ad cruds everytime I load the site up. Is there a way for the IE on the virtualbox to Authenticate as my AD Cruds on the host machine so I don't have to always put my username and password in ? I guess I can just have IE on the virtual machine remember my username and password but other than that is there another way to do this ?

  Hi guys, let me explain you the current scenario. We have a asp.net application on framework 2 running on intranet(Windows 2003 Server and Sql Server 2000). Now we have a xp machine where we installed and configured IIS with a virtual directory pointing on the local Xp machine and this machine is connected to our intranet. We have copied the same application files of the server to this XP machine. But the thing is the connection string/database of the application is pointing towards the intranet server. The problem is when we try to run the application on the XP machine we get this error : An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Is this query related or concerned with this site or stackoverflow ?

• Windows 7 Tray Application

  When I launch an application in Windows 7, it shows up in the tray but no where on my main screen. When I hover over it and select the application, nothing shows up. In order to make the application visible, I need to hover over it, right click and select maximize. Anytime I maximize the screen and then select to make it a smaller window, it also disappears. This is an awfully painful process in judst trying to launch the application. Please help me figure out how to change this to make sure th applicationalways opens into a maximized screen.

I would like to change the default font color of the mapped and not mapped folders in the Source Control Explorer (in the treeview). I tried the Visual Studio Color Theme editor, but it seems like the font color of the Source Control Explorer and the Team Explorer can not be changed by it. I also looked at Tools|Options|Environment|Fonts and Color for a setting but did not find anything. Is it possible to change the font color? How?

  My application is similar to a reminder service that reminds users of events that they scheduled. I'm sending emails to users through a PHP script. I'm not sending one email to multiple recipients. Each recipient receives a different message. I plan to use cron jobs every minute and expect the application to send roughly 200 individual emails in 1 hour (for a small user base that may grow). I don't have hosting experience with this type of application. I plan to start on a shared host and move up in the future to vps or dedicated. Most shared hosts that I looked into allow 50-100 emails per hour with delays between mailings. Please kindly inform me what I should look for in web hosts for this kind of application.

  IE's Protected Mode prevents one dragging the address from the IE address bar into other applications (for example Notepad). There's an informative article on MSDN about Allowing Drag and Drop Operations in your Application. If I uncheck Enable Protected Mode in IE's settings and restart IE I still cannot drag the address from the IE address bar into other Notepad. Why doesn't disabling IE's 'Protected Mode' enable the dragging-and-dropping of addresses from the IE address bar into Notepad? Is there a way to make that work without adding a registry entry for Notepad (following the instructions in the article I mentioned)? (N.B. This is actually part of me trying to work out how to get this address drag-and-drop working in Processing.)
