  • java "File not found" when using commons-configuration XMLConfiguration with Tomcat

    Hi all, I'm building two apps that uses commons-configuration XMLConfiguration. Since the apps are related, I've build another project, called commons, that has a custom configuration manager that initializes the XMLConfiguration like so: config = new XMLConfiguration("conf/config.xml"); What happens is that the "command-line" app works fine, loading the configuration file. But when I try to use my custom configuration manager on a webapp (using tomcat) I get a "org.apache.commons.configuration.ConfigurationException: Cannot locate configuration source". I've placed the conf directory on the WEB-INF folder, the root folder and the META-INF folder. I've also tried with "/conf/config.xml", "./conf/config.xml" and "../conf/config.xml". The only time I got this to work - on the web app - was using a absolute path. What am I missing? Thanks, Bruno

  • iPhone SDK: am I still allowed to develop with SDK 3.1.3 on Leopard?

    Mac OS X Snow Leopard's been in stores for a while now. Sadly, the Mac that I'll be developing on is still running Leopard, and I don't have admin access to the Mac either so I can't do anything about the OS version. Therefore I can only use iPhone SDK 3.1.3, which we've obtained thanks to this answer, to start building apps on that Mac. Am I still allowed to develop apps with this setup and deploy for iPhone OS 3.x to the App Store? Keyword is allowed because all I've seen so far are technical questions/answers, but I'm not certain if Apple's going to be a jerk and shun me because I can't use a Snow Leopard Mac despite having only started this year (and I don't even want to get started about iPhone SDK 4's revised agreement, not with its NDA still in place...).

    Hey Guys I have a website and am planning to develop a mobile version of it for the iphone, blackberry and android. My website is a social network built on PHP Zend framework. Now all these mobile apps are going to be having the same functionality like the website. I am little ignorant about this - but from a high level I understand that all these mobile apps should not have to write any backend logic. For every functionality - they will simply make a web service API call to interact with the backend. So does that mean, for every functionality I need to create a web service method. Can the existing code be re used - I'm a little lost - Can someone shed some light on this matter or point me in the right direction (like some articles) Thanks

  • Memory Profiling: How to detect which application/package is consuming too much memory

    Hi, I have a situation here at work where we run a JEE server with several applications deployed on it. Lately, we've been having frequent OutOfMemoryException's. We suspect some of the apps might be behaving badly, maybe leaking, or something. The problem is, we can't really tell which one. We have run some memory profilers (like YourKit), and they're pretty good at telling what classes use the most memory. But they don't show relationships between classes, so that leaves us with a situation like this: We see that there are, say, lots of Strings and int arrays and HashMap entries, but we can't really tell which application or package they come from. Is there a way of knowing where these objects come from, so we can try to pinpoint the packages (or apps) that are allocating the most memory? Thank you in advance.

    I have an existing Perl app that I'm moving to a Webfaction website. I will be adding Django apps to this Webfaction website too. I would like the Django app to get first call and so would want its URL path to be / This would allow me to add any new URLs to the urls.py I wish as my app grows. If the URL doesn't match anything in the urls.py I would like it to get passed to the static Perl app. For example /app1 - Django /app2 - Django Everything else not picked up by urls.py I would want going to my Perl app For example: /index.html - Static/Perl app /about.html - Static/Perl app /contact.html - Static/Perl app /apps/perlapp1.cgi - Static/Perl app etc How do I go about achieving this in Webfaction?

    Hi all, I am building a small facebook application. I am using asp.net and currently working with the fb:req-choice control (tied along with fb:request-form and fb:multi-friend-selector). Problem is, that when I specify the redirect url for when the user clicks my invitation, instead of getting what I specified: http://apps.facebook.com/myApp/forum.aspx?tId=1&ref=app&code=2.74rRNejG7tpAOqgDCNf8qA__.3600.1275202400-106570384737670%7CPi8JpoHDW3xGuq2lxdZl1d4CLUU.   • Jquery UI accordion question - how would you approach this?

    I am using jquery UI accordion control in one of my apps asp.net apps. The data for the accordion comes from a database, and each database record has an ID, a Title Field and a content field. The title is the heading, and the content is the data that shows up when the draw is opened... I'd like to be able to call my page like this: http://www.mywebsite.com/mypage.aspx?ID=123 and have it display all the data (as it does now), but then have the default 'drawer' of the accordion open to the section that corresponds to the ID number passed in on the url...there are about 50 sections on the page. Any suggestions on how to approach this? My questions is specific to the jquery accordion function, the rest I know. So where would be the best place to 'tag' the drawer with the unique ID's, and then what is the snippet of javascript code (I assume) that I would use 'open' that drawer based on the ID passed in??   • C# console applications all 16bit?

    Hi all, I was reading up about NTVDM.exe as I build a quick test console app and it crashed on a friends machine complaining about this EXE. As I understand it all DOS cmd windows (C# console apps included) run as 16bit not 32bit. Is this true? Does this mean all my works console app back office apps are running as 16bit rather than making the most of the 32bit available? What about Windows services? As I believe we wrote it as a console app then made it run as a windows service? Thanks

  • Why dont Android applications provide an "Exit" option?

    Is there something in the Android developer guidelines that disuadea developers from providing the option to "exit" (stop running) an application from within the application itself? I love multitasking and all but it's not clear to me why: the vast majority of apps don't have their own Exit functions and hence just keep running forever don't give you a choice about running when you turn on the phone - they just do by default Both of these things lead to memory usage constantly increasing and your device running with this performance burden all of the time despite the fact that you may only want certain apps to run some of the time. Am I missing something?

    Hi All, I'm a .NET developer with 10 years experience developing Web & Mobile Apps. I'm looking to branch into iPhone (and possibly Android) development. I'm looking at two products: Appcelerator Titanium (http://www.appcelerator.com/) and MonoTouch (http://monotouch.net/) I like MonoTouch because of it's standing in the Mono development communitity and it's C#. In saying that Appcelerator looks very straight forward using HTML and Javascript and targets Android too (which is overtaking the iPhone). The apps I'm looking to develop are line of business applications with data entry, syncing with back office, etc. Can anyone give their opinion on the pro's / con's of using these tools or any experiences.   • Is MacBook powerful enough to do Ipad development? or do I need a MacBook Pro?

    The title probably says it all. Considering an ipad's processor is nothing compared to a macbook, I would think a Macbook should be more than capable to run the simulator. However, not knowing much about iphone/ipad development, I'd like to get some opinions on this. for e.g. how many apps are typically need to be run for ipad dev (editor, debugger, perf monitor, trace log, etc). are these apps resource (memory, cpu) intensive? please do not take into consideration the actual image, 3d, video, sound development. I understand one would need quite a beefy machine to produce these type of creative assets. What I'm looking at is a machine to do code development, physics, putting together the produced assets (images, vector graphics, 3d video, sound, etc).

  • Compact Framework : Read a SQL CE database on a PDA from a PC

    Hello, I have tasked with upgrading a CF Framework 1.1 suite of apps. Currently, the PC starts a server [after confirming via RAPI that the device exists and is connected] and spawns a app on the PDA as the client. The client process on the PDA talks with the db on the PDA and returns records to the PC app [using SQL CE 2.0. OpenNETCF 1.4 for communication/io]. I have a chance to upgrade the PC and PDA suite of apps to Framework 3.5 & CF 3.5 respectively. Due to a business requirement, I cannot get rid of workflow requiring the PC app to show a preview of the work done on the PDA. Question : Are there better ways to achieve the above in general with the constraints I have? I would really appreciate any Ideas/advice.

  • Should I commit WEB-INF into version control, or rather construct it with ant?

    ant "war" task does just that - creates WEB-INF along with META-INF, depending on task attributes. what is considered a best practice? keeping all my libs elsewhere for re-use, like log4j and then build them with "war" task or have everything (including jars) checked-in under WEB-INF? I have multiple apps that could re-use same libs, images, htmls, etc. Our developers use RAD7/Eclipse. I'd appreciate any examples with opensource Java Web Apps repo layouts. thanks!
