  • How to use HTML-5 data-* attributes in ASP.NET MVC

    - by sleepy
I am trying to use HTML5 data- attributes in my ASP.NET MVC 1 project. (I am a C# and ASP.NET MVC newbie.) <%= Html.ActionLink("« Previous", "Search", new { keyword = Model.Keyword, page = Model.currPage - 1}, new { @class = "prev", data-details = "Some Details" })%> The "data-details" in the above htmlAttributes give the following error: CS0746: Invalid anonymous type member declarator. Anonymous type members must be declared with a member assignment, simple name or member access. It works when I use data_details, but I guess it need to be starting with "data-" as per the spec. My questions: Is there any way to get this working and use HTML5 data attributes with Html.ActionLink or similar Html helpers ? Is there any other alternative mechanism to attach custom data to an element? This data is to be processed later by JS.

  • Implement a HierarchicalDataBoundControl for ASP.NET

    - by Breadtruck
I want to implement a Hierarchical data bound control for ASP.NET. I used Implementing IHierarchy Support Into Your Custom Collection as a basis to create my hierarchical collection. I also created a HierarchicalDataSourceControl for the collection. Everything works: I can bind it to an ASP.NET TreeView and it renders the data correctly. However, I'm stuck on the HierarchicalDataBoundControl. I found examples, but I am still too new at c# / .Net to understand them. I don't quite understand how to implement the examples: Rendering a databound UL menu nor HierarchicalDataBoundControl Class Does anyone have any tips, or better examples of implementing a control like this?

  • ASP.NET:Integrating many pages to one using jQuery UI dialog

    - by Shyju
I have a four ASP.NET pages,Page 1.aspx,Page2.aspx,page3.aspx and page4.aspx.Normally the user will come to Page1 and then enter his data in the form elements. On clicking on the Go button Page 2 will come and so on up to page 4.Now i want to Integrate all of these items to A single page using jQuery LightBox/UI dialog modal popup. In my all pages i have server side code to do some Business logic. So I tried to Put the contents of page 2 in a panel and put it in the UI modal dialog and placed in page 1 and invoke the UI dialog from page 1 's button click. But my problem is I am not sure when i click on the button of the panel which is placed in the UI dialog, will trigger the server side code .I had some problems when i tried it earlier http://stackoverflow.com/questions/876660/asp-net-with-jqueryui-text-box-value-is-getting-as-null-in-button-click-event Please advice Thanks in advance

  • ASP.NET MVC Response Filter + OutputCache Attribute

    - by Shane Andrade
I'm not sure if this is an ASP.NET MVC specific thing or ASP.NET in general but here's what's happening. I have an action filter that removes whitespace by the use of a response filter: public class StripWhitespaceAttribute : ActionFilterAttribute { public StripWhitespaceAttribute () { } public override void OnResultExecuted(ResultExecutedContext filterContext) { base.OnResultExecuted(filterContext); filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Filter = new WhitespaceFilter(filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Filter); } } When used in conjunction with the OutputCache attribute, my calls to Response.WriteSubstitution for "donut hole caching" do not work. The first and second time the page loads the callback passed to WriteSubstitution get called, after that they are not called anymore until the output cache expires. I've noticed this with not just this particular filter but any filter used on Response.Filter... am I missing something? I also forgot to mention I've tried this without the use of an MVC action filter attribute by attaching to the PostReleaseRequestState event in the global.asax and setting the Response.Filter value there... but still no luck.

  • ASP.Net double-click problem

    - by David Archer
Hi there, having a slight problem with an ASP.net page of mine. If a user were to double click on a "submit" button it will write to the database twice (i.e. carry out the 'onclick' method on the imagebutton twice) How can I make it so that if a user clicks on the imagebutton, just the imagebutton is disabled? I've tried: <asp:ImageButton runat="server" ID="VerifyStepContinue" ImageUrl=image src ToolTip="Go" TabIndex="98" CausesValidation="true" OnClick="methodName" OnClientClick="this.disabled = true;" /> But this OnClientClick property completely stops the page from being submitted! Any help? Sorry, yes, I do have Validation controls... hence the icky problem.

  • null values from listbox, are not evaluated in the model binding of ASP.NET-MVC

    - by Jorge
    The model validation doesn't evaluates the attributes linked to listbox values if you don't select at least one of them. This way is not possible to do a model evaluation using DataAnnotations in order to inform required values. The controller: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.Mvc; using TestValidation.Models; namespace TestValidation.Controllers { [HandleError] public class HomeController : Controller { private SelectList list = new SelectList(new List<string>() { "Sao Paulo", "Toronto", "New York", "Vancouver" }); public ActionResult Index() { ViewData["ModelState"] = "NOT EVAL"; ViewData["ItemsList"] = list; return View(); } [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Index(MyEntity entity) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { ViewData["ModelState"] = "VALID"; } else { ViewData["ModelState"] = "NOT VALID!!!"; } ViewData["ItemsList"] = list; return View(); } public ActionResult About() { return View(); } } } The View: <%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<TestValidation.Models.MyEntity>" %> <asp:Content ID="indexTitle" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"> Home Page </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="indexContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2> Validation Test</h2> <p> <% using (Html.BeginForm()) {%> <fieldset> <p> ModelState: <%= Html.Encode((string)ViewData["ModelState"])%> </p> <p> <label for="Name"> Name:</label> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.Name)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.Name)%> </p> <p> <label for="ItemFromList"> Items (list):</label> <%= Html.ListBoxFor(m => m.ItemFromList, ViewData["ItemsList"] as SelectList)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.ItemFromList)%> </p> <p> <label for="ItemFromCombo"> Items (combo):</label> <%= Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.ItemFromCombo, ViewData["ItemsList"] as SelectList)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.ItemFromCombo)%> </p> <p> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </p> </fieldset> <% } %> </asp:Content> The Model: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations; namespace TestValidation.Models { public class MyEntity_Validate : ValidationAttribute { public MyEntity_Validate() { this.ErrorMessage = "Validated!. Is <> Toronto"; } public override bool IsValid(object value) { return ((string)value == "Toronto"); } } public class MyEntity { [Required] public string Name { get; set; } [MyEntity_Validate] public string ItemFromList { get; set; } [MyEntity_Validate] public string ItemFromCombo { get; set; } } } Any help would be very much appreciated.   • An unhandled exception of type 'System.StackOverflowException' occurred in mscorlib.dll

    - by mazhar
Ok the thing is that I am using asp.net mvc with linq to sql. I have a scenario where there are two tables group and features with many to many relationship with the third table groupfeatures. I have drag and drop all three table in the dbml file. The thing is that it runs fine with group but when I call the Feature things the above error occured and the compilers stops at this line in ((())). public partial class EgovtDataContext : System.Data.Linq.DataContext { private static System.Data.Linq.Mapping.MappingSource mappingSource = new AttributeMappingSource(); #region Extensibility Method Definitions partial void OnCreated(); partial void InsertGroup(Group instance); partial void UpdateGroup(Group instance); partial void DeleteGroup(Group instance); partial void InsertFeature(Feature instance); partial void UpdateFeature(Feature instance); partial void DeleteFeature(Feature instance); partial void InsertGroupFeature(GroupFeature instance); partial void UpdateGroupFeature(GroupFeature instance); partial void DeleteGroupFeature(GroupFeature instance); #endregion (((public EgovtDataContext() : base(global::System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["egovtsConnectionString"].ConnectionString, mappingSource)))) The code in both the controller Group and features file is ditto copied. Note the group things are working, the features things are not. FeaturesRepository.cs public IQueryable<Feature> FindAllFeatures() { return db.Features; } FeaturesController.cs FeaturesRepository FeatureRepository = new FeaturesRepository(); public ActionResult Index() { var Feature = FeatureRepository.FindAllFeatures(); return View(Feature); } So what could be wrong?

  • ASP.NET content incode id

    - by WtFudgE
Hi, I recently started using Masterpages, the thing is I would like to add text in code to an asp:Content tag. So my content page markup code is: <%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Template.Master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="ASP_Test_WebApp.Default" %> <asp:Content id="TEST" ContentPlaceHolderID="Main" Runat="Server" /> So now I would like to add Contents to the "TEST" id incode. But my in code doesn't recognize TEST. If I don't use a masterpage and I give an id to a tag my in code reconigzes it, but now that I started using masterpages it doesn't. What am I doing wrong? Thx

  • ASP.Net RADs: Dynamic Data alternatives

    - by SDReyes
Hi Guys! We have a set of tables and views that merely store some config data for embedded devices. this schema is change-prone and do not really required lots of logic, beyond some validation rules. so we considered using a RAD tool for maintaining these CRUDS. In first stage: Dynamic Data But the community size, books absence and the last modification dates of the MSDN articles (~July 2008) makes me want to hear your experiences. (actually DynamicData comes as a part of the ASP.Net MVC2 project) What has been your experience with Dynamic Data? And... What is your favorite ASP.Net RAD alternative? Why? Thank you in advance guys! PD: Entity framework friendliness is a bonus : )

  • ASP.Net MVC 2 Forms Authentication cookieless = "UseUri" while submit autherization fails

    - by rintoantony
hi, I just started working with ASP.Net MVC 2. I created a new ASP.Net MVC application and created one vehicle controler with a database table connected with LINQ. Then created forms authentication mechanism for the application and tried to use the uri instead of cookies it was working smoothly but when i submit the form by creating a "Create" view from the controler using the utility it just dont work. The autherization got failed and asking to enter the user name and password again.I had created the authorization mechanism by adding Authorise attribute to the Controller so as to get authorized for all the actions. namespace MVCNEW.Controllers { [Authorize] public class VehicleController : Controller { But if i use the cookies instead of uri it works fine. Thanks in advance...

  • Validation Summary for Collections

    - by Myster
Hi All, EDIT: upgraded this question to MVC 2.0 With asp.net MVC 2.0 is there an existing method of creating Validation Summary that makes sense for models containing collections? If not I can create my own validation summary Example Model: public class GroupDetailsViewModel { public string GroupName { get; set; } public int NumberOfPeople { get; set; } public List<Person> People{ get; set; } } public class Person { [Required(ErrorMessage = "Please enter your Email Address")] [RegularExpression(@"^([a-zA-Z0-9_\-\.]+)@((\[[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.)|(([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+\.)+))([a-zA-Z]{2,4}|[0-9]{1,3})(\]?)$", ErrorMessage = "Please enter a valid Email Address")] public string EmailAddress { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage = "Please enter your Phone Number")] public string Phone { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage = "Please enter your First Name")] public string FirstName { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage = "Please enter your Last Name")] public string LastName { get; set; } } The existing summary <%=Html.ValidationSummary %> if nothing is entered looks like this. The following error(s) must be corrected before proceeding to the next step * Please enter your Email Address * Please enter your Phone Number * Please enter your First Name * Please enter your Last Name * Please enter your Email Address * Please enter your Phone Number * Please enter your First Name * Please enter your Last Name The design calls for headings to be inserted like this: The following error(s) must be corrected before proceeding to the next step Person 1 * Please enter your Email Address * Please enter your Phone Number * Please enter your First Name * Please enter your Last Name Person 2 * Please enter your Email Address * Please enter your Phone Number * Please enter your First Name * Please enter your Last Name

  • ASP.NET FormsAuthentication Cookie Problem

    - by Niels Bosma
We use FormAuthentication to manage logins and I have a case where a customer complains where he can login from one computer but to from another. I can see in my logs that his authentican is successfull but he gets bumped back to the login page. I can reproduce the symptons by disabling cookies so I asked the customer to test if cookies are enabled on http://www.tempesttech.com/cookies/cookietest1.asp, but this came out positive. What have I missed? Is there any antivirus/security software that can mess up (ASP.NET) cookies? The user is using IE7 and claims to have F-secure installed.

  • No styles / images on asp.Net MVC 2 application

    - by xenolf
Greetings i have a little problem with my ASP MVC application. On my local development server everything works just fine but when i try to publish the application to an IIS 7.0 server it just displays plain pages without any styles / markups / images. I put all those things in the /Content/ subfolder but when i try to access that folder on the production server it just returns me a 404 not found error. I set the IIS server up with .Net 4.0 and followed the deployment guide on here: http://www.asp.net/learn/mvc/tutorial-08-cs.aspx All views / controllers / classes seem to work just fine, the only thing which does not is the content subfolder and i cant see why. Anyone got a suggestion what i could have overlooked or does anyone know that problem?

  • Cost of using ASP.NET

    - by Mackristo
One thing that I keep hearing in reference to ASP.NET and MSFT technologies is that they cost money to use. Often when they are being compared to open source languages someone will mention that one factor in favor of open source is that it's free (to an extent). My question is, when does ASP.NET actually cost money to use in terms of using the proprietary technology? Understandably there are the hosting fees, but I'm curious about the fees outside of these hosting fees. I'm especially curious about this as it relates one-person smaller-site development (non-team/large enterprise). Any help is appreciated. (edits) Some excellent answers. Much appreciated The projects that I'm looking to use the technologies for would be personal sites and very small business sites (1 or 2). The intent would of course be that these projects get much bigger. It seems that for commercial production, fees will apply. What about just basic dynamic "shared hosting" sites that provide information?

  • ASP with Crystal Report 9 hangs on .NET framework 3.5

    - by Chris Yang
We have an ASP (not ASP.NET) application running on Windows 2003 server. One of the functions of the application is to generate reports using Crystal Report 9. It has been working without any problem with .NET Framework 2.0 and now it is required to install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 on the server but after we installed the 3.5 SP1, every time we run the application the Crystal report is not generated and the web page hangs so we have to recycle the application pool in IIS to get the application back going. Does anyone have any idea/solution to this problem? Any help will be greatly appreciate.

  • When I use a form to call a method on the controller, I want the page to refresh, and the url to sho

    - by MedicineMan
    Using ASP MVC, I have set up a webpage for localhost/Dinner/100 to show the dinner details for dinner with ID = 100. On the page, there is a dropdown that shows Dinner 1, Dinner 2, etc. The user should select the dinner of interest (Dinner 2, ID = 102) off the form and press submit. The page should refresh and show the url: localhost/Dinner/102, and show the details of dinner 2. My code is working except for the url. During this, my url shows localhost/Dinner/100 even though it is correctly displaying the details of Dinner 2 (ID = 102). My controller method is pretty simple: public ActionResult Index(string id) { int Id = 0; if (!IsValidFacilityId(id) || !int.TryParse(id, out Id)) { return Redirect("/"); } return View(CreateViewModel(Id)); } can you help me figure out how to get this all working? p.s. I did create a custom route for the method: routes.MapRoute( "DinnerDefault", // Route name "Dinner/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Dinner", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults );

  • Most popular classroom, bootcamp, or online training for ASP.NET 3.5

    - by Curtis White
What are the most popular and highest quality training sources for ASP.NET 3.5. I am interested in both "boot camp" class room training and online self-paced training. I am interested in both training that can be applied to certification but also non certification based training in the following areas: ASP.NET 3.5, AJAX, and web security. The training should be geared to real world projects and not memorization. I am most interested to hear from Microsoft MVP's on the matter and those who personally have attended or scheduled such training.

  • Developing ASP.NET MVC UI Extensions - best approach

    - by user252160
What are the best practices in developing rich UI extensions for ASP.NET MVC (I mean asynchronous / partial loading, slick effects, skinning etc) ? I saw that Telerik has an MVC suite of extensions, but haven't tried them yet, so I cannot comment on them. My biggest concern as of the moment is how to structure the code of my extensions so that C#, ASP markup, and JQuery remain separate from each other, yet encapsulated in a way that the extension must be easy to distribute and reuse. I know that the user control approach had many flaws, yet it sort of allowed application developers to just reference a control, set some parameters and get it going in a few minutes. I'd like to achieve the same kind of portability/reusability as I still keep the code easy to extend and build upon. Now, some ideas that come to mind as topics for discussion are: template helpers vs. extension method helpers or a possible integration efficient use of jQuery - naming conventions - - asynchronous action loading - etc you can add whatever comes to your mind

  • classic asp - response.redirect and response.write problem

    - by apg1985
Hi People, The problem if someone types into the search box a location it goes through to that location page but if they type in a location thats not found or they dont type anything in I need it to redirect back to the homepage (index.asp) and display "whoops we couldnt find that" in the search box (input field) This is the vb Case Else response.redirect "index.asp?whoops=whoops we couldnt find that" End Select Then in the value of the input field I have value="<% =whoops %>" This doesnt work by the way, first is this the best way of doing it because id rather not have the error message in the url. This there away of posting the error as a variable and then calling it into the input field like, <% =whoops %>

  • Recursive TreeView in ASP.NET

    - by waqasahmed
I have an object of type list from which I wish to use to populate a treeview in asp.net c#. Each object item has: id | Name | ParentId so for example: id | Name | ParentId ------------------------- 1 | Alice | 0 2 | Bob | 1 3 | Charlie | 1 4 | David | 2 In the above example, the parent would be Alice having two children Bob and Charlie. David is the child of Bob. I have had many problems trying to dynamically populate the treeview recursively in c# ASP.NET Does any one have a simple solution? Btw: you can use People.Id, People.Name and People.ParentId to access the members since it is an object belonging to list. I can post you my code so far (many attempts made) but not sure how useful it will be.

  • Asp.NET 1.1 HttpResponse headers

    - by Yeti
Hi, i have part of Asp.NET 1.1 project. I work with remote site, which works incorrect in some cases - sometimes it write incorrect Content-Encoding header. In my code i get HttpResponse from this remote site. And if Content-Encoding header is equals, for example, "gzip", i need to set Content-Encoding header to "deflate". But there is no properties or methods in HttpResponse class to get Content-Encoding header. Content-Encoding property returns, in my case, "UTF-8". In Watch window i see _customProperties field, which contain wrong string value. How can i change header value with Asp.NET 1.1?

  • Class Structure w/ LINQ, Partial Classes, and Abstract Classes

    - by Jason
I am following the Nerd Dinner tutorial as I'm learning ASP.NET MVC, and I am currently on Step 3: Building the Model. One part of this section discusses how to integrate validation and business rule logic with the model classes. All this makes perfect sense. However, in the case of this source code, the author only validates one class: Dinner. What I am wondering is, say I have multiple classes that need validation (Dinner, Guest, etc). It doesn't seem smart to me to repeatedly write these two methods in the partial class: public bool IsValid { get { return (GetRuleViolations().Count() == 0); } } partial void OnValidate(ChangeAction action) { if (!IsValid) { throw new ApplicationException("Rule violations prevent saving."); } } What I'm wondering is, can you create an abstract class (because "GetRuleViolations" needs to be implemented separately) and extend a partial class? I'm thinking something like this (based on his example): public partial class Dinner : Validation { public IEnumerable<RuleViolation> GetRuleViolations() { yield break; } } This doesn't "feel" right, but I wanted to check with SO to get opinions of individuals smarter than me on this. I also tested it out, and it seems that the partial keyword on the OnValidate method is causing problems (understandably so). This doesn't seem possible to fix (but I could very well be wrong). Thanks!
