    This one was not easy to solve ... Error: The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured. Context: Some pages were not crawled (giving the above error) and, what is worse, all the sub content of that site was not crawled either! (the pages were the homepages of the site) Solution:The pages that could not be crawled due to this error contained a custom web part. This web part used default credentials for a given action. During crawling, the SP_Search account tried to perform this action but did not have the appropriate rights.     I have an application that needs to store client data, and part of that is some data about their employer as well. Assuming that a client can only have one employer, and that the chance of people having identical employer data is slim to none, which schema would make more sense to use? Schema 1 Client Table: ------------------- id int name varchar(255), email varchar(255), address varchar(255), city varchar(255), state char(2), zip varchar(16), employer_name varchar(255), employer_phone varchar(255), employer_address varchar(255), employer_city varchar(255), employer_state char(2), employer_zip varchar(16) **Schema 2** Client Table ------------------ id int name varchar(255), email varchar(255), address varchar(255), city varchar(255), state char(2), zip varchar(16), Employer Table --------------------- id int name varchar(255), phone varchar(255), address varchar(255), city varchar(255), state char(2), zip varchar(16) patient_id int Part of me thinks that since are clearly two different 'objects' in the real world, seperating them out into two different tables makes sense. However, since a client will always have an employer, I'm also not seeing any real benefits to seperating them out, and it would make querying data about clients more complex. Is there any benefit / reason for creating two tables in a situation like this one instead of one?

    I wonder how one professional developer would design the backend-part of his application. I try to use PHP as seldom as possible and only for data serving/saving purposes. To do so, i would create a module/class for every greater part of my application, then write some single script files which are called by javascript. E.g: User clicks a "retrieve data" button javascript will call retrieveData.php retrieveData.php will create an instance of the needed class, then executes myInstance-retrieve() the data is returned to my JS by retrieveData.php However, i see some disadvantages in this practice: I will need a single scipt file for every action, (e.g retrieveData.php, saveData.php etc) I need a man-in-the-middle step: from JS to my single script, to my classes How are modern applications designed to accomplish what i need to do?

The code use the MFC as its framework, in genral, it only has interface part which heavily use the mfc api and a business logic part which full of bad code, confusing logic. The company has some small features delivered to the customer each year(most features are adding code to exisiting project, finding some reference of some api or variable and it' s no different with fixing 3-4 bugs ), most of the tasks are to resove issue and optimize performance . Like other company with maintaining position, it value people who knows much logic about its product. There are people who can quickly finish the job on such project, is it worth to train myself like such a programmer? Is there benifits to work on such project for a long time?

    I come from a background with heavy use of the classical object-oriented paradigm for software development. The company I am a part of switched to Unity not too long ago, and we're all very excited to get started using it However, one aspect that have sparked my interested, and which I think will become a very important part of our future development, is Unity's approach to component-based design with scripting; with less focus on typical hierarchical aspect. Question I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good books on this subject? I have had trouble finding any books or books with reliable reviews, and was wondering if anyone more experienced here had something to say on the issue? Any other kind of resource would be excellent too, I'm just interested in getting to learn everything I can about it. This is not meant as a discussion about best books or resources on the topic, but simply a question regarding any resources that any of you find useful. Thank you all for your time!

    There are 4 moving physical nodes in 3D space. They are paired with two elastic line segments / strings (1 <- 2; 3 <- 4). Part I: How to detect the collision of two segments? Part II: On the moment of collision, fifth node is created at the intersection point and here you have the force-based graph. 5-th node (bend point) can slide among the strings as in a real world. Given the new coordinates of 4 nodes, how to calculate the position of the 5-th node on the next frame? I assume string force on the nodes to be F = -k * x where x is the string length. All I came up to is that the force between 5 and 1 equals 5 and 2 (the same with 3 and 4). What are the other properties?.

    I study physics and computer science and both studies include minor programming tasks whereas larger tasks are only (potentially) a part of larger projects like for your thesis. When I look at job postings for scientific jobs e.g. in the area of HPC they usually ask for "extensive programming skills in C/C++ and HPC" or the like. This is what I would like to achieve, but frankly I don't know how. I don't mean to mourn, but you can imagine that studying physics/CS means having a busy schedule so I couldn't even work part time as a research assistant to get practice without negative influence on my grades. The second problem is that I lack ideas on what to code in my spare time. I would like to do something useful but even for open source projects you apparently need a whole lot of time and depending on the type of software a lot of experience to be useful. I would be grateful for any advice you can give me.

    I am currently building a home server and I am trying to give minimal permissions to every service. I am new to permissions management and this is an awesome learning experience for me :). drwxr----- 7 reazem enter-home 4096 Sep 9 21:43 reazem drwxrws--- 3 reazem minidlna 4096 Sep 9 21:36 media reazem is my home folder and media is my media folder, it is situated directly inside my home. The minidlna user is part of the following groups : minidlna, enter-home. I get the following error: Media directory not accessible! [/home/reazem/media] I was hoping that because the minidlna user is part of the enter-home group, it could get inside the home folder, and then inside the media folder because it is in the minidlna group. Where is my mistake? Edit: I found out that chmod g+x /home/reazem solved the problem, but why? Why would you need the execute permission to get inside another directory? Thank you!

  • Why does DirectX use a left-handed coordinate system?

    I considered posting on Stack Overflow, but the question strikes me as being far too subjective since I can't think of a reasonable technical explanation for Microsoft's choice in this matter. But this question has bugged me for so long and the issue keeps coming up in one of my projects, and I have never actually seen an attempt at explaining this: OpenGL uses a right-handed coordinate system, where the +Z part of the world coordinate system extends toward the viewer. DirectX uses a left-handed system where the +Z part of the world coordinate extends into the screen, away from the viewer. I never used the Glide API, so I don't know how it worked, but from what I can gather, it uses a left-handed system as well. Is there a technical reason for this? And if not, is there some conceptual advantage to a particular handedness of a coordinate system? Why would one choose one over the other?

  • How to render a texture partly transparent?

    Good Morning StackOverflow, I'm having a bit of a problem right now as I can't seem to find a way to render part of a texture transparently with openGL. Here is my setting : I have a quad, representing a wall, covered with this texture (converted to PNG for uploading purposes). Obviously, I want the wall to be opaque, except for the panes of glass. There is another plane behind the wall which is supposed to show a landscape. I want to see the landscape from behind the window. Each texture is a TGA with alpha channel. The "landscape" is rendered first, then the wall. I thought it would be sufficient to achieve this effect but apparently it's not the case. The part of the window supposed to be transparent is black and the landscape only appears when I move past the wall. I tried to fiddle with GLBlendFunc() after having enabled it but it doesn't seem to do the trick. Am i forgetting an important step ? Thank you :)

  • Why Does Unity lag Often That I have To Manually Shutdown/Restart my Core i3 Laptop?

    I did a fresh install of Ubuntu then do did some upgrades. After my next restart when I try to open Ubuntu Software Center it took about 20 seconds for the window to load then 10 more seconds before it became click able. While doing some installation of software, Unity lags like hell that every time I click any application it takes a few seconds before I can see it. Even GEdit take a lot of time to load. The worst part was when I was doing nothing to my computer. Even on that part, my computer lags. My Laptop is a Brand New Core i3 with 2GB of RAM. Unity should run perfectly on that kind of machine right? BTW: I reinstalled Ubuntu 11.04 for about 5 times now and still nothing changed.
