• Rollback to a specific moment with PostgreSQL

  Hi, Is there a way to rollback to a specific starting point. Im looking for something like this. Start specific_point; Now after this, an other application connected with the SAME login will insert & delete datas (webservices with crud operations) for about 2 minutes doing tests. Each webservice call is declared as a transaction with Spring Ws. After that i want to rollback to the specific_point to have a clean database to a known previous state. I was thinking that ROLLBACK TO SAVEPOINT foo; was the solution but not unfortunately? Any idea ? Configuration: PostgreSQL 8.4 / windows XP Regards

• Creating a contact form using divs with 4 extra divs for "Corners"?

  Hi there, i have tried to create a contact form (a standard form, square in nature but with rounded corners)... I can't use the CSS3 specs so i have an image for each corner.. I have set the images on the background-image and no repeat but it seems if the div is empty then it doesn't display, is there a hack - although prefer an alternative clean method :-) So on the top level i presume i have 1 div for the Upper-Left (corner) and then the upper-middle (just has a color assigned) and then a div for the upper-right (corner) .. so i presume i need to float all these to the left??? Or am i missing something? Thanks in advance

• Symfony 2 - UrlGenerator::doGenerate is called before listener

  I want to add to the context a parameter, so when login is called I can use it in the route (similar to _locale). I can add this piece of code in HttpUtils.php (as resetLocale), but i don't find it very clean. The reason I need it is the firewall redirection to the login controller, which I would like to have in its route a customized parameter. My problem is that my listener is called after UrlGenerator::doGenerate is called, so I get a MissingMandatoryParametersException. • Receiving SQL Server events from a CLR function

  I wrote a CLR class with several methods, which are linked as functions in a SQL Server 2005 database. When several of these functions are used in scope of one transaction or connection, I need another one to be automatically executed to clean up some stuff, at the time of transaction or connection close (either time is good for now, later I will decide which is best). I figure that receiving events from another new CLR functions can do, but I don't know how to achieve that. Can anyone point me to information on modules, documents or whatever, that can help me understand how to receive transaction or connection closing events in a CLR class, or how to execute a particular function when these events occur?

• How To Collapse Just One Field in Django Admin?

  The django admin allows you to specify fieldsets. You properly structure a tuple that groups different fields together. You can also specify classes for certain groups of fields. One of those classes is collapse, which will hide the field under a collapsable area. This is good for hiding rarely used or advanced fields to keep the UI clean. However, I have a situation where I want to hide just one lonesome field on many different apps. This will be a lot of typing to create a full fieldset specification in every admin.py file just to put one field into the collapsed area. It also creates a difficult maintenance situation because I will have to edit the fieldset every time I edit the associated model. I can easily exclude the field entirely using the exclude option. I want something similar for collapse. Is this possible?

• Temporary files & folders on Windows

  Emulating multithreading by loading a DLL multiple times (it's designed for this). Since LoadLibrary() doesn't really allow it, the DLL copies itself into a temporary file, via GetTempPath() and GetTempFileName(). It's a small file and upon thread destruction it frees the library and deletes the temporary file. Problem now is that the number of threads is configurable (maniacs can pick 50, 100, more) which basically exposes the risk of running unstable, crash and not go through the usual "delete temporary files" routine. Is it okay if I just leave those temporary files to die there? Does the OS usually clean the up by itself? Or should I write an autocleanup routine? If yes, how can I go about saving another temporary file to hold a list with those files, and not hit UAC restrictions or otherwise? Any ideas?

  This must come up very often. When the user is editing preferences in an Android app, I'd like them to be able to see the currently set value of the preference in the Preference summary. Example: if I have a Preference setting for "Discard old messages" that specifies the number of days after which messages need to be cleaned up. In the PreferenceActivity I'd like the user to see: "Discard old messages" <- title "Clean up messages after x days" <- summary where x is the current Preference value Extra credit: make this reusable, so I can easily apply it to all my preferences regardless of their type (so that it work with EditTextPreference, ListPreference etc. with minimal amount of coding).

• How to do MVC form url formatting?

  I am using PHP. I want to create an MVC setup from scratch to learn more about how MVC works. I want to use clean urls with slashes as delimiters for the arguments. How do people do this when it comes to GET method forms? Or do people avoid GET method forms all together? As of right now the ways I can imagine are: Don't use GET method forms (although this makes it harder to let users bookmark/link in some cases). Use AJAX instead of form submission (although what do you do for SEO and JS disablers?). Have page submit to itself with post method, then reform the post vars into an url, then rerout to that url using headers (seems like wasted resources). Any suggestions or suggested reading welcome.

• How to get rid of library references problem? Java

  Hello, I created a web application and it used several libraries once upon a time. So i added them but later on i found alternative and actually better ways to do the same things. So i removed references from my project for those jars and libraries. Everything works fine but when i move the same project to my friend's laptop Netbeans 6.8 simply doesn't let me deploy the project and gives the whole bundle of errors of libraries that i used previously but i don't now. I removed all references from build.impl file and then when i deploy it, it works fine. But when i do a clean and build and try to deploy it, build.impl automatically again adds those lines of xml which contain references to libraries an again gives me a whole long list of errors. How do i get rid of this? I am really tired of these silly errors. Thanks in advance :)

• How does hibernate use an empty string for an equality restriction?

  I have a column that potentially has some bad data and I can't clean it up, so I need to check for either null or empty string. I'm doing a Hibernate Criteria query so I've got the following that returns incorrectly right now: Session session = getSessionFactory().openSession(); Transaction tx = session.beginTransaction(); Criteria myCriteria = session.createCriteria(Object); ... myCriteria.add(Restrictions.or(Restrictions.isNull("stringColumn"), Restrictions.eq("stringColumn", ""))); List<Objects> list = myCriteria.list(); I can't get it to properly return the results I'd expect. So as an experiment I changed the second restriction to read: Restrictions.eq("stringColumn", "''") And it started returning the expected results, so is hibernate incorrectly translating my empty string (e.g. "") into a SQL empty string (e.g. ''), or am I just doing this wrong?

  Hi everybody! I've been working with swing for the last 2 years, but i'm still not satisfy with my own work. The apps are "fast" enough, but the development isn't enough "clean". Can you recommend me any real world project, book, or something similar that shows me how a real world swing app work. May be a framework, something structured, etc. For example, i'm thinking i may code a "window manager" that has all the window of the app in an unified resource, may be cached, etc. I think all those good ideas must be implemented already.   Does any of the continuous integration servers support incremental builds or filtering mechanism? For example, I want to configure some kind of filtering (as I call it) so that committing file to the specific folder will not cause full (clean) build triggering, but will cause only incremental build. By 'incremental build' I mean process that will put only committed files to the required place and all application would not need to be rebuilt from scratch. Working with images is good example of the case when we need such filtering and thus incremental builds: why do we need to rebuild whole application if only images have been changed? What we need to do is just place images to the dedicated place on server.

• reading a line, tokenizing and assigning to struct in C

  line is fgets'd, and running in a while loop with counter n, d is a struct with 2 char arrays, p and q. Basically, in a few words, I want to read a line, separate it into 2 strings, one up until the first space, and the rest of the line. I clean up afterwards (\n from the file becomes \'0'). The code works, but is there a more idiomatic way to do this? • On iPhone, how do I check once per day to see if i should phone-home?

  I want to check a file on the server only once each day (NSURL). And, no matter if I fetch the file or not, I do not run the function (to check for the file) again that day. This would SEEM easy... but I forsee issues. Say I had created a directory under the mainBundle: "/Library/runOnceEachDay/". Perhaps I could write to /Library/runOnceEachDay/20100601 knowing that file would only exist if I already ran the function. If it does not exist, run the function and after the function is successful write a zero length file with the date as the filename. Then check before running that function for "mainBundle/Library/runOnceEachDay/YYYYMMDD" whereas YYYYMMDD is today's date. If that file exists, do not run. I could run a housecleaning routine to clean that directory once/week or something. Any better ideas? Thanks!

How would you write an algorithm that takes care of this? In other words, that makes sure that on 10.000 random picks, A will be selected 2.481 times?

• Recieveing "EXC_BAD_ACCESS" before any UI elements load (on device only)

  Everything works fine on the simulator, but I gete EXC_BAD_ACCESS when I try to load my app on the device. I've put in a bunch of NSLogs to try and catch where it happens, but the log statements are never reached. Also, the UI doesn't load. So, seems the problem is happening before any of my code is reached. I tried a clean build, no luck. Also tried building and installing a different app, which works fine. So, looks like there's something wrong with my app, but it's something that happens before any of my code gets called. So, any ideas?

  I have Java experience and recently am doing some C++ coding. My question is that if I have class A, in which I have to instantiate class B and class C as two of the member variables of A. If in the constructor of A, should I assume that allocations of class B and C never fail, and handle the bad allocation exception in the destructor of A? If I don't make that assumption, meaning that I add some try catch block to catch bad_alloc of class B and class C, then if the allocation exception occurs, should I do clean up in the constructor of A? What are the recommended practices? If "new" generates a bad allocation, what value does the pointer carry?

• Allowing AsyncTask to Manipulate Values in Different Activity Classes

  Hi guys, This title may seem strange, so let me try to explain what I'm trying to do. I have several activity classes, each representing a different view in my application. My initial activity class gets loaded when the application launches. The user enters values and eventually a TCP socket is opened, and I then use AsyncTask to listen for and respond to messages from the server. I'd like for this AsyncTask class to essentially listen until the app is closed/error condition reached, and be able to update values in other activity classes after they are started. Does this make sense (it's been a long, frustrating night)? I know that static activity class references are bad practice, and touching the UI thread from other activities is bad as well, but I'm having trouble finding a clean solution to this problem. Maybe using AsyncTask is not the best approach here? Should I be using a service instead or something else entirely? Thanks in advance.

• Get rid of all user data of Android application after bigger update

  Hi, I completely revamped an app. Tested it for a while on my device and emulator. The app worked fine. However when I updated the app through the Android market, my users experienced crashes. Since there is no way to properly debug this procedure I asume the crash is caused by old data which is not being removed from the device (probably from the onsavedstate bundle?!).   I am parsing html file with the help of the html agility pack to extract the table data from the html file. But there is some html files where there is no ending tags which is optional or there is no starting tag which is also optional.So html agility pack does not parse that html page properly.If I open the content of that html file in the notepad++ then with the option TestFX-->TestFX HTML Tidy-->TiDy clean document and make the content tidy like this. And now this file If I parse with the html agility pack then it parse it properly. Making html page tidy with notepad++ is best option. So I don't know but user can not do this like first he/she makes the page tidy with notepad++ and then go ahead.Then what should I do ?

  I've got a table in a testing DB that someone apparently got a little too trigger-happy on when running INSERT scripts to set it up. The schema looks like this: ID UNIQUEIDENTIFIER TYPE_INT SMALLINT SYSTEM_VALUE SMALLINT NAME VARCHAR MAPPED_VALUE VARCHAR It's supposed to have a few dozen rows. It has about 200,000, most of which are duplicates in which TYPE_INT, SYSTEM_VALUE, NAME and MAPPED_VALUE are all identical and ID is not. Now, I could probably make a script to clean this up that creates a temporary table in memory, uses INSERT .. SELECT DISTINCT to grab all the unique values, TRUNCATE the original table and then copy everything back. But is there a simpler way to do it, like a DELETE query with something special in the WHERE clause?
