• thoughts on making a widget?

  I'm only going to be able to get each site that wants my widget, to copy and paste the code block in once.. So it needs to be really future proof. • How can I save/print values in my WATCH list in Visual Studio 2008?

  When I attach the Visual Studio 2008 debugger to my web server process, I sometimes browse a large amount of data in my watch list. Suppose I have an array of string variable that I expand to show 20 entries. It seems that the only way to save these values is to copy and paste them one at a time. I have gone so far as to do a screen-shot in order to have a record of what the values were (to refer to later or print a hard copy). Is there an easy way to save and print these values? I am familiar with the new "IntelliTrace" feature in Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, but it seems overkill for this purpose. I just want to take something like an array of strings and save it for later reference once I've stopped the debugger. What's a good way to do this?

  I've just installed Mercurial on my Mountain Lion Max (10.8) and on my first commit I'm getting the error: abort: no username supplied (see "hg help config") I've seen a load of answers which suggest I need to create or copy a file form a certain location and paste it into another location and add my username and email to the document. If that is the right thing to do: Where is the file I need to copy (or what is the file called that I need to create) Where do I put that file Do I just need to add the following two lines to the file? • Add Method to Built In Class

  I am pretty sure this is not doable, but I will go ahead and cross my fingers and ask. I am trying to add a method to a built in class. I want this method to be callable by all of the built in class's subclasses. Specifically: I have a JButton, a JTextPane, and other JComponents. I want to be able to pass in a JDom Element instead of a Rectangle to setBounds(). My current solution is to extend each JComponent subclass with the desired methods, but that is a LOT of duplicate code. Is there a way I can write the following method just one time, and have it callable on all JComponent objects? • Boost Shared Pointer: Simultaneous Read Access Across Multiple Threads

  I have a thread A which allocates memory and assigns it to a shared pointer. Then this thread spawns 3 other threads X, Y and Z and passes a copy of the shared pointer to each. When X, Y and Z go out of scope, the memory is freed. But is there a possibility that 2 threads X, Y go out of scope at the exact same point in time and there is a race condition on reference count so instead of decrementing it by 2, it only gets decremented once. So, now the reference count newer drops to 0, so there is a memory leak. Note that, X, Y and Z are only reading the memory. Not writing or resetting the shared pointer. To cut a long story short, can there be a race condition on the reference count and can that lead to memory leaks?

• Android GPS app not closing connection

  Hi there, Fairly new to Android, so just trying to work out: I have a simple Maps app that plots a couple of locations. It's a demo for a potentially bigger app later. The one thing I would like to do is make it exit correctly. I want to assume that when a user hits the "Home" or "Back" button on the phone, that they have exited the app. I want when this has happened for the GPS process to shut down. I can't seem to find any examples of how to do this correctly. I have an onDestroy() subclass with a super.onDestroy() method but this doesn't seem to cut it. I've tested on my phone and while everything else seems to work fine, this is bugging me. I keep seeing the GPS icon in the notifications bar. To give you an example, this doesn't happen when you leave GoogleMaps. Anyone any ideas or know what I'm missing? T

• Any way to assign terminal output to variable with python?

  I need to grab the duration of a video file via python as part of a larger script. I know I can use ffmpeg to grab the duration, but I need to be able to save that output as a variable back in python. I thought this would work, but it's giving me a value of 0: cmd = 'ffmpeg -i %s 2>&1 | grep "Duration" | cut -d \' \' -f 4 | sed s/,//' % ("Video.mov") duration = os.system(cmd) print duration Am I doing the output redirect wrong? Or is there simply no way to pipe the terminal output back into python?

  I have the following array that I get as an output from facebook: http://www.paste.to/v/1jntlnml With the following code: $stream = $facebook->api_client->stream_get('',128342905144,'0','0',30,'','','',''); foreach($stream as $wallpost) { echo '<pre>'; print_r($wallpost); echo '</pre>'; } So I get the data that I need, but I want to call the individual variables within this array. For example, echo out the [message] for each post. Since it only loops once, I cant echo $wallpost['message'] or anything similar. any idea?

  I need to search through a directory which contains many sub directories, each which contain files. The files read as follows question1234_01, where 1234 are random digits and the suffix _01 is the number of messages that contain the prefix, meaning they are apart of the same continuing thread. find . -name 'quest*' | cut -d_ -f1 | awk '{print $1}' | uniq -c | sort -n example output: 1 quest1234 10 quest1523 This searches for all the files then sorts them in order. What I want to do is print all the files which end up having the most occurrences, in my example the one with 10 matches. So it should only output quest1523_01 - 11

Im using the following code to print the results for testing echo '<pre>'; print_r($this->upload->data()); echo '</pre>'; A cut down version of the results are as follows Array ( [file_name] => Array ( [0] => filename1.gif [1] => filename2.jpg ) ) The way my view is setup, is that i use jquery to insert multiple dynamic file input fields so the amount of files can be 1, it can be 50 and so on. I have the following file among other files in my directory: jdk-6u20-solaris-i586.sh I am doing the following to get jdk-6u20 in my script: myvar=`ls -la | awk '{print $9}' | egrep "i586" | cut -c1-8` echo $myvar but now I want to convert jdk-6u20 to jdk1.6.0_20. I can't seem to figure out how to do it. It must be as generic as possible. For example if I had jdk-6u25, I should be able to convert it at the same way to jdk1.6.0_25 so on and so forth Any suggestions?

• Accessing Java Connector Architecture (JCA) from a Non-Managed environment

  Hi, We have been using a JCA to interface with a low-level network resource from within WebSphere, however we have a requirement to be able to access the same network resource externally from Tomcat (i.e. not in a managed environment). The network communication and protocol layouts is very verbose, so we would rather not copy/paste several thousand lines of code (and then have to maintain them separately). From reading the JCA spec, there is supposedly some support to execute the code in a non-managed environment (such as Tomcat). Unfortunately, I have no idea what the interfaces are supposed to do, or how to call them from outside a managed environment (the spec is pretty vague). Are there any implementation examples out there that show how to modify a JCA to be usable in a non-managed environment? Thanks!

  end_date=$(date +"%m/%d/%Y") /usr/bin/perl -pi -e "s/_end_date_/${end_date}/g" filename I want to replace string '_end_date_' with current date. Since current date has slashes in it(yes I want the slashes), I need to escape them. How can I do this? I've tried several ways like replacing slashes with "\/" using sed and perl itself but it didn't work. Finally I used 'cut' to break date in 3 parts and escaped slashes but this solution doesn't look good. Any better solution?

• Can I define which characters are allowed to 'break' a word?

  Hey guys, I'm showing up veeeery long URLs in my Safari extension. Obviously, they can't fit on a single line. Currently, word breaking rules make it so most URLs are on two lines: the first one is rather short and ends with the ? symbol, and the other is ridiculously long and contains all the rest of the GET parameters. I'd like to make it so words also break on the & symbol, without screwing up copy-paste if possible. I've tried to replace every & with &\u00ad (& + the soft hyphen character), but it's kind of weird to see the hyphen after the & when there really isn't any in the URL. I thought there was something in store with CSS3 for that kind of problem, but I can't find it. Any suggestion welcome, as long as it works with Safari.

• maintain formatting entered into an html form?

  Im setting up a web form, and I'm trying to have it where visitors can paste their resumes into a text area. Then I want to email the info using php mail(). But the resume info is just stored in the variable as one long string with no formatting. Is there a way I can send the pasted resume text to the client in the resume format? Maintaining all the line breaks and stuff? He wants to avoid having people upload resumes.

  I wrote my layout entirely in java code because it was just more convenient. (I had a lot of textViews and using for statements were more convenient). However, my TextViews require the day of the week and in portrait mode, I would like to cut the day of the week to a short form. For example, I want "Sunday" to show "Sun" for portrait mode, but "Sunday" for landscape mode. I understand how to do this in XML files, but how do I do it in code? • how to sort an existing table in greasemonkey ?

  i'm writing a greasemonkey user.js for a page with a table in it. (table is 100 rows by 18 columns.) now what i want to do is to make it sortable on column. and also have it run in both chrome and firefox. all searches for answers sofar resulted in suggestions to use jquery/dojo or something alike. can i be done without any external code? after all it's just a matter of replacing the row's in a different order, right? or is that a silly thing to say? the thing is that i'm already using dojo for some query needs but since i want it to run in both firefox and chrome, i just copy paste the whole dojo thing in my script.. also, most of the solutions i found sofar seem to be more for use when building a table. not for altering an existing one. any help is appreciated.

• Does @import in CSS result in additional http requests?

  I have an ecommerce site that has about 8 CSS files linked from the header - resulting in 8 separate http requests to the server. I consolidated all the CSS files into 1 big one, resulting in a 67kb (!) file - to cut down the http requests to 1 for our css files. I'm finding this size a CSS file a little unmanageable in light of the fact I'm performing updates on the site constantly. My concern is my users may catch me in the middle of updating and see a NON-styled page when moving from page to page - b/c 67kb still takes a good 2-3 seconds before it is successfully placed on the remote server via FTP. My question is: does the use of @import within this large CSS file to break up the files into smaller more manageable sizes (within that CSS file) take us back to the original 8 http-requests when the pages is loaded? Or are @imports in CSS handle differently somehow?

• WPF/C# - Sometimes my dropdowns/datepickers will stop functioning?

  Q: Where should I check to track this down? Issue: Opening a view model in my application sometimes makes dropdowns/datepickers nonfunctional. ie. dropdown won't drop and the datepicker calendar won't come up I suspect a binding issue but don't see one. Dropdowns have normal things like strings, numbers. One drop has a list of mini views. Datepickers are bound to nullable dates set in the constructor of the viewmodel. Note: These same things work in other viewmodels/views. I can paste code, I'm just not sure what code is relevant here. Thank you for helping me :)
