  • I need to create a volume/symbolic link from a UNC Path

    I have a workstation with Windows XP and I need to make a symbolic link or mount a UNC Path like a local Drive. I need the same behavior that produces M-Daemon tools when you mount an .iso File but with a remote directory. This is because I have a software client that perform several task but only with local drives and directorys. The remote UNC path is a NAS server, thats the why I need to perform all the tasks from a workstations. Thanks a lot!

    Is there any other location restricting a user from accessing their emails from their phone using active sync, besides on a domain controller -active directory-user properties - account - logon hours. The user's logon hours are allowed all the time. To add to the mystery the user is an admin on the domain.(He seems not to be able to get emails from 7:00pm to 8:00pm) Its a Windows 2003 Server environment. Thanks for any help ahead of time.

    I'm curious with a question I find. An Windows Active Directory user can change his own telephone number, street address etc, but can NOT change his own email-address registered on the AD. Using Python+pywin32 I can also verify this behavior. When trying to change own EmailAddress, I got error General access denied error . I'd like to know where in the AD this allow/deny behavior is defined. Thank you.

    We have a bunch of users in a local Active Directory OU that access the SharePoint portal. We've just added LDAP authentication and pointed it at the organisation's global LDAP server, so out AD accounts are now redundant. Is there a way to re-map the authentication for a SharePoint (MOSS 2007) user/profile. That is, can we manually change a lot of users so that they log in with their LDAP credentials and get the same SharePoint MySite, groups, etc. as when they were authenticating via AD?

    In our network we have a Windows 7 print server. Users connect to this machine by typing \\server_name on their own workstations. The print server and the users` computers are members of Active Directory. In AD, only computers have accounts, users are using local accounts. Is it possible to configure Windows 7 so that it doesn't ask for login and password when a user tries to access it from computer which is member of domain?

    I've been trying to configure my freeradius server on Linux to authenticate users from an existing Active Directory (windows server 2003) and i've already done that. Now i need to assign VLANs to those users and i dont know how to :(. The logical procedure should be with an AD attribute but i haven't found which one nor how to read it from the AD to use it on the freeradius server...     My network has all 2008R2 domain controllers, but we are running Active Directory in Windows 2003 mode. Two of our domain controllers are configured as WINS servers. I have discovered that our copiers and fax machines are currently configured to use WINS to find their servers, so I'm in the process of configuring them to use DNS instead. How can I find out what else is actively using WINS? What procedure should I follow to decommission WINS from my network?

  • Multiple network connections on a Windows 2008 domain controller (private network for NAS)

    I have a Windows 2008 server connecting to an iSCSI target on an OpenSolaris box (yay ZFS!). I'd like to create a private network between the 2 boxes that is totally separate of my Windows domain. What is the best way to configure the additional network adapter on the Windows machine so it doesn't think the new subnet is part of the Windows domain? I want to make sure Windows doesn't magically start spewing active directory communications over the private wire and that it doesn't start poisoning the DNS with IPs from the private network.

  • Expose Windows LDAP address book on the internet

    I need to expose Active Directory, or at least the address book functions on the internet for some mail clients and other devices. The standard response is to simply not or vpn in, however VPN isn't an option for us with some of the hardware devices. A number collages expose their setups out to the internet so I'm assuming their has to be a safe way of doing it. Best option I've come up with to install a linux ldap host, then hourly sync over the relevant contact information however that seems like major overkill.

    I need to create a bidirectional trust between two Active Directory domains. But management is worried that users will be puzzled out when seeing another domain name in the drop-down list in the Windows logon screen (many of them use Windows XP), and that help desk calls for failed logins due to having selected the wrong domain will skyrocket. Also, the two domain names are quite similar, adding to the possible user confusion. Is there any way to hide a trusted domain from the drop-down list in the Windows logon screen?

    We are running windows server 2003.I log in as Administrator but I don't have any access rights. I tried to create a new Administrator account but when logging into that one I still face the same issue. Is there a problem with the Group Administrators?
