  • Fatal Error when booting

    I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with ATI proprietary FGLRX graphic drivers When I boot, I can see this very quick message appearing; I don't have time to read it: **Fatal Error ..................................**(&@something i cant read) I searched through the log file in /var/log/ in order to find what is wrong and I did find something in the /var/log/Xorg.1.log: 21:31:08 [ 15.734] (--) using VT number 1 [ 204.647] Fatal server error: [ 204.647] xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call [ 204.647] [ 204.647] Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support at http://wiki.x.org for help. [ 204.647] Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.1.log" for additional information. [ 204.647] But this is already Xorg.1.log. And there is a Xorg.0.log also & Xorg.0.log.old but it doesnt have any error in it. My system seems to work properly and it seems its not affected by this But how do I correct this message? Any suggestions?

For example I am writing 20 lines of code to achieve the functionality and my co worker writing the code for the same functionality with just 5 lines. Since he used some looping statement to achieve that, but that code will execute around 30 to 50 times. So which is best way of coding? As per my knowledge I always try to reduce coding length as much I can.

    Today , I try to write a Silverlight app that talks to SharePoint 2010 using the REST API.However after deploy the silverlight app and run the code , I got the following error.In order to fix this I need to make the target framework of your caller application to 4.0,in this case I need to use Silverlight 4.0 instead 3.0.After I have done that and redeploy the solution to the SharePoint.It works like a charm.   Exceptions details: System.Data.Services.Client.DataServiceQueryException: An error occurred while processing this request.     what is the meaning of this error? sorry it's my first time to use Visual basic 2010, I'm not familiar with this kind of error, I use this for selecting all the files in the listbox and tried to move or copy to another listbox in other form.   • error when installing rmagic gem on Ubuntu 12.04 for Ruby on Rails

    0 down vote favorite I am trying to get my Ruby on Rails application working and installing RMagic gem. But I get an error that says "Can't install RMagick 2.13.1. Can't find the ImageMagick library or one of the dependent libraries." Altough I have ImageMagick installed with its dependences. Terminal log : http://pastebin.com/vcgkbwZR I even tried to installed RMagic from Synaptic, but I get the same error when I run "bundle" command. Through my search, some people had problem with lib dependencies, but I believed I have them all installed. Another solution I found is this ( error installing RMagick from gem ) a little bit old and not sure if it is going to work for 12.04. BUT, I don't know where those configurations should go.

    I have recently upgraded to Precise and had some errors. It seems to be quite random and with differences in the error reports. I have duly sent the reports hoping the system will have found the problem and sorted itself out. After the second error I am following the wizards (software...) advice and seeking help. The 1st time it happened I jotted down the following: ExecutablePath /usr/lib/tracker/tracker-extract LaunchPad bug 950765 AMD64 The second time the following: ExecutablePath /usr/share/appart/appart-gpu-error-intel.py "Possible GPU hang........" sandybridge-m-gt2 LaunchPad bug 981261 If there is anyone that can help it is much appreciated. I did not really want to upgrade at this stage, but was forced to due to the latest version of python-numpy in precise. You win some, you loose some....   • What are the design principles that promote testable code? (designing testable code vs driving design through tests)

    Most of the projects that I work on consider development and unit testing in isolation which makes writing unit tests at a later instance a nightmare. My objective is to keep testing in mind during the high level and low level design phases itself. I want to know if there are any well defined design principles that promote testable code. One such principle that I have come to understand recently is Dependency Inversion through Dependency injection and Inversion of Control. I have read that there is something known as SOLID. I want to understand if following the SOLID principles indirectly results in code that is easily testable? If not, are there any well-defined design principles that promote testable code? I am aware that there is something known as Test Driven Development. Although, I am more interested in designing code with testing in mind during the design phase itself rather than driving design through tests. I hope this makes sense. One more question related to this topic is whether it's alright to re-factor an existing product/project and make changes to code and design for the purpose of being able to write a unit test case for each module?

    I am implementing customer specific code and currently following simple approach like if (cusomterId == 23) do it. I want to separate out all the customer related code in separate place. But I have following problems. In code is in 1. Stored procs 2. Plain old classes. 3. Controllers 4. Views I came up with two solutions. First is to create table CustomerFunctionlity with columns CustomerId, FunctionalityName, method/Proc, inputs/outputs With this table I can simply check if exists, execute given function. Another way is creating a factory which returns customer related object for an interface. I am writting small end to end customer specific functionalities. How can I write maintenable code. Thanks

    I have already upgraded Ubuntu 12.10 from 12.04. I have remove old kernel 3.2.21 in 12.04 ver. On my starting up it have error before login I see a error "vmware ...." In 12.04 I have install vmware 9.0 and in 12.10 when I open vmware workstation to start a virtual machine it error my monito going to black and I must logout and login angain. How to fix it?     A google scholar search turns up numerous papers on testability, including models for computing testability, recommendations for how ones code can be more testable, etc. They all come with the assertion that more testable code is more stable, however I can't find any studies which actually demonstrate this. I tried looking for studies evaluating the effect of testable code vs. quality, however the closest I can find is Improving the Testability of Object Oriented Systems, which discusses the relationship between design flaws and testability. Is testable code is actually more stable? And why, or why not? Please back up your answers with references or evidence to back up your claim.

  • Machine check error on ASUS while booting from USB

    I put the last Ubuntu iso on my USB stick using UNetBootin, after formatting it to fat32. I've already done that before with other operating systems and it worked. I can't actually boot Ubuntu from USB since I get a black screen with the error "Machine check error" on top the an automatic reboot happens. The error appears right after the boot, I can't see anything else before. I'm using my ASUS X54L latop. Does anybody know how to solve this? Installation from CD/DVD works.

    In the past I had already implemented successfully automatic migration from version 1 of my data model to version 2. I see the above error logged, and no object is available in the application. However, if I quit the application and reopen it, everything is in place and working.   • Stuck on an ASP.NET/WCF WSDL Parsing Error

    I have a WCF Web Service that my ASP.NET app uses. It has been working fine for quite some time. I just added in a Dev Express Grid (and the Dev Express DLLs) and a new page that uses them and now I am getting parsing errors on the WSDL. But the weird part is that it works fine on my machine but fails on the web server machine. (Both are connecting to the same web services WSDL.)
