• Ubuntu 13.10 has no Suspend or Hibernate Options

  I have a Lenova Yoga 2 Pro, and I have Ubuntu 13.10 installed. I am having some issues setting the power functions. At the moment I can not suspend or hibernate the laptop. So from Gnome 3.10 I have the option to Log Out, Shutdown & Restart. No option for Suspend / Hibernate. Weirdly however I can use these commands to get the right behaviour sudo pm-suspend sudo pm-hibernate So the laptop knows how to do this, it just is not giving me the option and also when I set "Close screen lid" to suspend, well nothing happens. It feels like there is a "connection" not being made.

• is there a linux equivalent of iTerm(mac) sending command to multiple tabs functionality?

  in iTerm, you can send a command to execute simultaneously on a set of already opened tabs. Is there a way to do this in linux (with gnome-terminal preferably)? for instance, supposed that I had 10 tabs already ssh'd into [email protected] and sudoed to root and wanted to send a command to run on all 10 tabs. The goal of this is to be able to stay within a set of tabs and command them, rather than having to use expect scripts to ssh and elevate and run commands. Basically, like how you could do in iTerm.

• Can I use Cygwin as a replacement for Ubuntu, for bash script testing?

  Next wednesday i'm having an exam on Operating Systems. In this exam there will also be a part bash-scripting. The teacher itself will test the scripts in a Virtual Machine running Ubuntu. Myself, however, I'm having serious troubles with running the latest Ubuntu (14.04 LTS) on a Virtual Machine (there are troubles with gnome running very slow). So I'm thinking about using Cygwin, which is doing the job great for another course. The teacher already confirmed I can use that, but I'm thinking he doesn't know it at all. I've already tested the scripts we made in class and they're all running without errors. But I'm quite sure there are some things I have to mind on. My question: would you use Cygwin as a replacement for the Ubuntu VM? Or should I stick it with the VM (maybe by using a different config/platform).

• nm-applet and nmcli don't work in arch

  I installed arch linux about two weeks ago. But I still can't use Network Manager. When I use nm-applet command, I get this error: https://gist.github.com/4129816 And when I use nmcli con command, I get this: https://gist.github.com/4129837 sudo doesn't help me neither. D-Bus look fine, I can use dbus-monitor. I installed gnome, but I still can't use NM. I 'm using openbox now. I have another problem too: what should do so I can use nm-connection-editor with non-root users?

It’s easy to list installed packages, but it does not include the name of the repository (such as “main” or “universe”). And this information isn’t in /var/lib/dpkg/status, so dpkg-query doesn’t show it either. I want to get a list of “unsupported” software—that is, software that doesn’t come from the “main” repository, and for which Ubuntu does not guarantee security updates. Note: This is a server. It does not have X, GNOME or KDE installed.

• Mimicing Mac-style command/alt/control keys in Linux

  I absolutely love that Mac separates the command key from the control key, allowing OS shortcuts and text shortcuts to co-exist. It's incredibly useful, especially because it allows emacs shortcuts everywhere. I've searched almost everywhere for some kind of utility that can allow this and can't find anything. Any help? Note: I want to do more than just remap my keyboard. I want to actually split OS shortcuts and text shortcuts. The only way I can see doing that is to manually go through each shortcut in Gnome and Compiz and change it.

• Why does the terminal in unity 2d (Ubuntu 11.10) always stay in the foreground?

  I have just updated to Ubuntu 11.10 and I am using unity 2d. My terminal applications (gnome-terminal or konsole) just won't go into background. When I move another application in front of them, they are still rendered, but the clicks are going through them. This behavior only appears when the terminal windows interact with another applications. I can move one terminal over another without a problem, but even the menu list of a terminal application can not be shown, since it is - for some unknown reason - "behind" the terminal. Any ideas what might be the cause of this problem? I do not have this problem with my other machines. The only difference is, that I am using unity 2d here and ("normal") unity at home.

• Google Maps API vs Multimap/Bing Maps API

  I want to know if anyone who has experience of using both the Google Maps API and the Multimap API can give a good reason as to why one is better than the other - or maybe a list of pros and cons? I will be working on a complete re-development of a site which currently uses the Multimap (Classic) API and want to consider the possibility of using Google Maps API instead of Multimap (now MS Bing), but I need a compelling reason to justify this decision. The site currently provides a search mechanism allowing users to search for addresses using postcode/partial postcode or city. The current system has a sqlserver database back-end containing full address details and also uploads (geocodes this information to Multimap with a daily scheduled task). I'm wondering if it's possible with the Google API to avoid the need for the daily upload and just use it's geocoding API instead (though this is limited by Google's restriction of a certain number of geocoding requests per day).

  I am using logback/slf4j to handle logging in my application. Everything was working perfectly until I started using EJBs. Once I added a stateless EJB to my app, the logger started ignoring my logback.xml and stopped using my appenders. I switched to a programmatic logger configuration to see what was wrong and now I am getting the following error when I try to use my logger within the EJB: org.slf4j.impl.JDK14LoggerFactory cannot be cast to ch.qos.logback.classic.LoggerContext stemming from the line: LoggerContext lc = (LoggerContext) LoggerFactory.getILoggerFactory(); Is there any special configuration necessary to get logback to work with EJBs? If it matters I am deploying on glassfish v3.

  I have a Classic ASP page that creates a CDO.Message object to send email. The code works on Window Server 2003 but not 2008. On 2008 an "Access is denied" error gets thrown. Here is a simple test page I wrote to diagnose the problem. • Visual Studio 2008 - syntax-highlighting and intellisense not working for aspx, js, css

  Hello all, I'm having problems with Visual Studio 2008, namely, syntax-highlighting and intellisense for *.aspx, *.js and *.css files (and maybe more) not working. Also, when I go to Tools - Options... - Text editor - HTML - Format, I see this error message: "An error occurred loading this property page" Everything was working fine before, until recently. The only change that might have possibly triggered this (but I am not 100% sure whether it stopped working at that exact time or some other time) was a change of the display language in my Windows 7 installation. I have already tried running: devenv /Setup devenv /ResetSkipPkgs devenv /ResetSettings ...none of which helped. Also, setting my default system font to Tahoma, which was a suggestion I found somewhere else, did not work for me (it was Tahoma before, since I use the Windows Classic theme). • WPF MVVM: TextBox and default Button binding does update too late

  I've got a simple WPF dialog with these two controls: <TextBox Text="{Binding MyText}"/> <Button Command="{Binding MyCommand}" IsDefault="True"/> Now, when I enter some text in the TextBox and click the button using the mouse, everything works like expected: the TextBox will set MyText and MyCommand is called. But when I enter some text and hit enter to "click" the default button, it does not work. Since on hitting enter the focus does not leave the TextBox, the binding will not be refresh MyText. So when MyCommand is called (which works), MyText will contain old data. How do I fix this in MVVM? In classic code-behind I probably just would call "MyButton.Focus()" in the MyCommand handler, but in MVVM the MyCommand handler does know nothing about the button. So what now`?

  Ok this is driving me mad, I feel like a total Newbie. I'm using WPF's DataGrid control from Dynamic Data Display with .NET 3.5. Link on Codeplex here I want an equivalent to the classic GridView's RowDataBound event, and I can't find any. I tried working with LoadingRow, but it fires every time I scroll. I'm trying to change the background color of certain cells in my grid based on a database values. I'm new to WPF. Should I be using the XAML binding?

  I have an ISAPI filter that I am using to do URL rewriting for my CMS. The values are missing. I'm expecting either my "test1" or "test2" header values to appear, but they are not. Am I doing something wrong here?

• Consuming "Event Tracing for Windows" events

  An answer to this question has led me to look into using "Event Tracing for Windows" for our tracing needs. I have come across NTrace, which seems to be a good way to produce ETW events from C# code (using the XP-compatible "classic provider" model). However, I am unable to find an easy way to consume these events - to see them in real-time and/or log them to a file. The only way I have found is that described in the NTrace documentation: using a tool which is only available as part of the Windows DDK. In the case of a complex problem in the field, we may need to ask the user to produce a file containing a trace. We can't ask users to download the DDK or carry out a number of complex operations in order to do this. Is there a straightforward, user-friendly way to log ETW events to a file? Also, is it possible for someone to consume ETW events on Windows Vista/7 if they are not running as administrator?

  Hi, I have some doubts about ASP.Net MVC, and i would like to ask few questions. If i understood well, a controller/action is selected from a httprequest. As one request is used to get one web page, could we call to these controllers "page controllers"? My other question is about the widgets and RenderPartial method. If a widget represent a classic asp.net webcontrol or usercontrol, and i want to render this widget in a lot of pages, how could avoid repeat the logic of the widget if this logic is in the "page controller"? • Dumping views with mysqldump in the right order.

  I have a script that backs up our database, which contains multiple tables and views constructed from tables. The command used is: mysqldump -u UserName -ppassword -h hostname DatabaseName dump.sql; I have noticed however that some view definitions are backed up before the definitions of the tables. This causes an issue when restoring using the classic mysql -u UserName -p < dump.sql As when it tries to create the view, the table it needs does not exist yet. It is possible to edit the dump files to be restored, but I was wondering: Is there a way to either make sure that mysqldump backs up the tables and views in the right order? Or is there a way to restore from a dump that will find the right tables to create first (or create sane temporary tables)? • Upgrading to IIS7 stopped Firefox from receiving cookies?

  Our website has been using IIS6 for a long time. We test on IE8, Firefox, and Chrome. All browsers worked fine. We recently did an upgrade to IIS7, and Chrome and IE8 continue to work normally, but Firefox appears to be unable to get the ASP session cookie. As a result, when our code checks the Session[] object, we see nothing, we think the user has logged out, and the site resets your session. Does anyone know why upgrading to IIS7 would cause this behavior in Firefox? We've: 1) Reverted our application pool back to classic mode (no change); 2) Added a dummy value in the Global.asax object (no change); and 3) changed the web.config file from "authentication cookieless=autodetect" to "cookieless=usercookie" and back (no change).

  Hi, I'm using MVVM in my WPF project. Now I want to display a subwindow when someone presses a button. To achieve this classically I would call the Show() method. What I want now, to keep my application clear, is to bind the button to the Show() function of the subwindow. As the button click (menu click, whatever) is not always allowed I wrote a custom command that evaluates if the command can be executed. However, I did not found a clue how to call the function of that control in a clean way. Is this the point to do some classic style (code in the frontend)? -sa

Everything seems to work up until the point of loading the ADT in Eclipse. Prior to doing this add the following dependency sites to the list and enable them so that the ADT installer will pickup all the dependencies (thanks MissKaho for the concise list). • Is preg_match safe enaught in input satinization?

  Im building a new web-app, LAMP environment... im wondering if preg_match can be trusted for user's input validation (+ prepared stmt, of course) for all the text-based fields (aka not html fields; phone, name, surname, etc..). For example, for a classic 'email field', if i check the input like: $email_pattern = "/^([a-zA-Z0-9_\-\.]+)@((\[[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.)" . "|(([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+\.)+))([a-zA-Z]{2,4}" .
