I'm using a Mac.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for muting the mic during a call?
I can't find one, and I often need to toggle mute/unmute.
Clicking the button on the Skype interface is very inconvenient :(
When I run emacs with -nw option, the emacs really open, but I can't do more nothing. As if the user input is blocked and no keyboard signal is received and/or interpreted. I've tried run without load .emacs file and some other behaviors:
emacs -nw -Q --no-desktop --debug-ini foo.c
But makes no difference and strangely the GUI-version(using Gtk) is working fine.
My gnu-emacs version is GNU Emacs 23.3.1
Any help to help to fix it is very appreciated.
I just switched from Windows to Linux. I've been using EditPlus for many years mainly because of it's ability to save locally, and then send the file via FTP, with easy keyboard shortcuts (ctrl-s to save, ctrl-alt-s to ftp).
I also need syntax highlighting and basic code editing features. Is there anything for Linux that can do this? I don't want to run EditPlus via Wine
How to change Windows default language temporarily? For example, English to Russian, but for some time and without losing anything. I will revert back to English.
I want to change Language settings everywhere. In programs, Keyboard input, browsers etc.
Hi
I lost some notes and i have about 40 minutes before my pc will restart.
I know it might be imposible but anyway maybe i will learn something.
So the question goes:
Is there a RAM trace left by keyboard input that could be recovered in 40 minutes or less.
I use Win 7 build 7100.
edit: the browser is Chrome
I am re-branding a website that has both English & Chinese Traditional text. When I am copying + pasting the Chinese text into notepad++, the characters gets displayed as question marks. I tried changing the language settings within notepad++ to Chinese, but it now displays as squashed rectangles. I also changed my keyboard language setting in Windows 7 to Chinese but it did not work.
This is what I see when I right-click in Chrome to copy the Chinese character:
Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on my Macbook Pro freezes quite frequently now. It freezes for few seconds and then works fine. During that time trackpad does not work and keyboard works partially (missing keystrokes while I type).
Initially it was once or twice in a day but now it has become quite frequent. Is somebody else facing similar issue?
Is there some sort add on or program that lets me easily change (and choose) songs using keyboard shortcuts (or perhaps Spotlight)?
The ideal program would add iTunes indexing to Spotlight and allow me to change songs by searching for them in Spotlight (but then not switch the focus to iTunes). I do believe that there was a plugin for Launchy on Windows to do a similar thing.
Is such a program available?
I always put it to sleep at night, but when I try and turn it on I hit the keyboard to activate it and a Windows screen pops up saying and error has occured. It collects data then reboots and offers to send an error report.
Note this only appears to happen when I'm at home and it's hooked up to 2 monitors and 3-4 USB devices. When it's not connected to everything it looks like sleep actually works.

At work I've 4 different computers connected using a keyboard/video/mouse switch.
Quite often when I switch to windows vista the resolution is totally wrong and I need to get the screen properties dialog, change to another wrong resolution (because the fun part is that the apparently current resolution listed in the dialog is the correct one) then re-switch to the correct resolution.
I would really like to just shut that broken resolution autodetection code off. Is there a way to disable screen resolution autodetection in Windows Vista?
I'd really like to use chrome on my netbook, but I can't change the settings because the resolution is 1024*600 on Windows 7.
Is there any workaround? I tried the move window command with keyboard thinking that I could move the window up out of the screen enough for the ok button to appear, but the window always snaps back to screen so I can't press ok to save my settings...
When I try to drag and drop a file from the physical machine into the vpc window the mouse stops responding inside vpc window. The keyboard keeps working fine and I'm still able to move the mouse pointer in the vpc window but won't be able to click on any folder or file anymore.
Has anyone experienced this before can elaborate on how to fix this?
My laptop (Acer travelmate 4152NlCi)doesn't respond to the keyboard and mouse anymore while booting in Windows Xp Pro Sp3. i can't type the password and login. I have Opensuse 11.0 on it as well and it works. So I can boot into Linux and not Windows, not even in safe mode. What would be the troubleshooting steps?
I'm trying to get a grip of OS X (SL), but haven't yet found a keyboard shortcut to switch windows of a single application, say, Safari. I can hit F10 and select the right window from there but it feels unnecessarily complicated - and needs a mouse.
So, is there a shortcut to switch windows of a single application?
My question is different to others as my list of important features is completely different and I believe unique.
Necessary Features Are:
Dual-monitor support
6 desktops minimum
Different icons can be created on different desktops
Reliable and does not delete or remove icons without input from me
Ability to save profiles and reload them if necessary
Ability to change the home desktop to a different one
Reasonably easy to use
Keyboard Support
Good email support
I hibernated my Windows 7 desktop PC, replaced the SATA cables of my 2 hard drives (without paying attention to which ports they were connected), and resumed the system. Everything appeared normal and it entered the desktop with all the applications previously open before hibernation. However, after a few seconds, the screen became frozen and the system no longer responded to anything (mouse/keyboard/network ping).
Does anyone have a definitive answer on whether changing SATA ports of the HDDs during hibernation would crash a Windows 7 system?
It appears that installing Windows 8 on top of XP doesn't give you the option to choose the locale and other settings -- I've got the right keyboard layout restored, and can change the system locale to be for the UK, but there doesn't appear to be any way to change the time zone -- choosing the option to try and change the time zone gives error:
Date and Time

I want to run a guest operating system under a Linux host with VirtualBox, but I don't want to run from within X. I don't want a headless configuration, I don't want to run VirtualBox in the background, I don't want any remote protocols. I just want the guest OS to take control of my console (keyboard, mouse and monitor) and render to the framebuffer directly, not from within an X window.
Is this possible?
I'm looking in to learning emacs or vim. I started out with emacs but found the need for a meta key to be a hassle, especially since I have a non-english keyboard layout on my macbook.
So far I haven't seen any references to meta in vim, so my question is:
Can I live without meta in vim?
If so that'll settle the vim vs. emacs question for me, otherwise I'll just have to learn to live with some workaround.

Is there translate tool/extension that can translate word or look up dictionary?
Desired feature:
- a keyboard shortcut to toggle translation, so it might be mouse over the word or select the word and press for example F2 key to pop the translation.
- (optional) the translation should shows in a bubble window
Thanks.
I have a Lenovo W500, which has dual boot.
When I boot into Windows 2008 R2 and connect to an external screen or projector, the keyboard locks. Sometimes it is just a few of the keys, sometimes keys start different programs.
I do not have this problem if I boot with windows 7. I have run windows update, but it did not help.
I used the virtual machines in virtualbox in a "headless" mode instead of a GUI mode. what are the advantages of using it in a headless mode?? by headless does it mean that the server doesnt have a keyboard or monitor attached or does it mean that no window will "pop up" , denoting that it is ON(or any other status), when a virtual machine is worked with? what exactly does it mean? pls reply...
Does anyone make a wireless touch screen monitor that would be could be used kind of like a tablet pc?
Basically I want something that could sit on my lap and allow me to view and control a nearby pc.
UPDATE:
Anyone know of a touch screen tablet pc without a keyboard, so it's just a screen?
I've set up a little media center computer running Arch Linux.
I want to eventually get it so that there is no keyboard or mouse required. Right now I want the solution to be SSH. My problem is that when I do something like mplayer movie.mpg over an ssh shell, I'll just get vo: couldn't open the X11 display ()!
How do I get this to work correctly and play on my TV(the display the media center computer is hooked to)?
My HP d330 does not properly shutdown, after Vista "shutting down" message the lcd screen goes black, but both HD + Power Leds remain on.. Any ideas?
No entries in EventViewer about this.
Keyboard leds no more work after this partial shutdown so I assume hardware is partially shutdown..?
Same problem occurs when I choose Sleep from shutdown menu
